i’ve been meaning to do this for a while cause i read a LOT of webcomics, and a lot of them don’t seem to get much attention, so here’s a list of my favs! also im very bad at summaries so please give these awesome comics a chance!
star trip- probably my favorite comic on this list. a human named jas saves an alien shapshifter named khut, and as a thank you khut takes her on a “tour” of various planets. this would be great if khut wasn’t being hunted by another group of aliens. really cool worldbuilding, every planet they visit is unique and has it’s own history, and the characters are just fantastic.
ushala at world’s end- WOW DO I LOVE THIS COMIC. it’s set in a world in which everyone can remember their past lives, and the titular ushala (along with a skull that harbors a chatty demon) is cast out of her home for having been the reincarnation of a horrible warrior. the worldbuilding and plot is awesome, the art and characters are great, it’s super gay, please read it.
your worst nightmare- another one of my absolute favorites. the art style is so colorful and there’s some great visual storytelling, and the characters really grabbed me and reeled me into the story. also, lots of snark from just about everyone, a+.
goth western- im a sucker for western themed stuff, what do want from me. a gunslinger resurrects her girlfriend with the help of a god, which may or may not have some repercussions.
mora and stima apei- based on romanian folklore, mora the pricolic with no memory of her past tries to steal her lost arm back from the guardian spirit, stima apei. they hit things off pretty well, all things considered. it’s very short and seems to be on hiatus, but it’s still definitely worth a read.
shanties- to paraphrase the comic’s actual summary; a siren and a lich on a quest to kill each other. it’s actually pretty cute though, with a cast full of other supernatural characters that all have a lot of charm.
unfamiliar- ITS ADORABLE. planchette the witch is excited to move into her house, but it turns out to be super, super haunted, so she rounds up some of the other witches in town in an attempt to un-haunt her house. it’s really cute and funny, and the art style is adorable.
thunderpaw- i’ll admit i never actually finished this, but i will soon. the animated segments and visual storytelling is just so cool, though.
drop out- a sugar glider goes on a road trip to the grand canyon to kill herself while her snail gf rides along. obviously HUGE warning for themes of suicide. it’s a very emotional comic, and i love how expressive the characters are.
eth’s skin- another semi-short one that seems to be on hiatus, but still a great comic. based on folklore of british colombia, eth accidentally steals a selkie’s skin and tries to find a way to give it back to her.
nature of nature’s art - this one is a bit more popular than the others, but i still don’t see it mentioned much. the comic is a series of stories set in the same universe, in which an alternate history of the earth gave animals the same intelligence as humans. the comics explore their civilizations, and because there are multiple stories there’s a huge backlog of content (my favorite is lycosa, about a wolf spider, though it’s a bit more lighthearted than the others). the worldbuilding is interesting and the art is great, the whole thing is drawn in paintbbs and it’s very impressive.
prague race- another one that’s pretty popular, but i just can’t leave it out. i LOVE the art in this comic, the style is so detailed and beautiful, and i love that no two background characters are alike. it’s also been going on for a while, so the story has really gotten interesting and there are SO MANY cool characters (i love pam. i love pam so much.).
