I want to take a moment to talk about something I noticed when I was watching the latest Bobs Burgers episode The Amazing Rudy.

Several scenes are designed to mirror an earlier scene. I'll go through a few here.

At breakfast Rudy eats scrambled eggs. A dish composed of one ingredient that has a very messy look.

At the Belcher's he has the lasagna that, despite having far too many ingredients, has a much more defined structure.

His dad discusses the upcoming dinner with Rudy with the camera placed behind glass.

Gene discusses the upcoming dinner with Rudy, again the camera is again placed behind glass.

Rudy and his dad go to a store to return something. The store is very tidy and clean

The Belchers are at a store buying something. The store is far busier with a variety of things on the shelves.

The climactic moment of both dinners involve Rudy accidentally spilling something. In the first case water.

In the second, the truth.

Rudy is shown twice at the center of a group positioned far lower than them. Tina and Gene are literally partitioned off in this shot to allow the audience to focus on the connection between Bob and Linda and Louise and Rudy.

The final comparison I want to make is the beginning and the end. A bird leaves the nest alone in the morning. At night two kids leave together. There's stuff to be said about how the birds represent Bob and Linda and how Bob and Linda are positioned to parallel Rudy and Louise but this isn't a ship evidence post. I mean, if you ship you spotted all that straight away, no need for me to tell you.

The Amazing Rudy might be on a structural level the finest episode Bobs Burgers has ever made. An incredible amount of care must have went into this episode and I hope future episodes can be as great as this one.

Check out this beautiful comic that the Amazing @devilh0rnsinc did of one of my favorite scenes from my current favorite of my fics, "And In the Backseats We Just Tried to Find Some Room to Breathe", which tells the story of Sylvester, Rudy, and Louise's ride home after the "we're still a family dinner" in "The Amazing Rudy"

I LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS SOOOO MUCH!!! I particularly love the lettering, which just so beautiful in itself, and the facial expressions that just capture the awkward sweetness of this moment so perfectly!

NOW, let me tell you how great Devil was to work with! Because, you see when I sent her a commission request, I did not ask for a comic. I just thought about a picture, like the last frame, and suggested she maybe have Louise saying her last line of dialogue here.

She came up with the suggestion of making it a comic and she came up with suggestions of abridging Louise's dialogue from the story so it would fit on one page- and she fit in more of Rudy's dialogue than I hoped or thought possible! (She also, very politely, reached out to me on here when I hadn't responded to one of her ko-fi messages because I didn't see it because my email is always so full.)

While she was working on this she told me how much she loved the fic and loved working on this and I think that really does show in the final art. If you are thinking about commissions some art, for a fic or just generally, please reach out to her.

I just want to say, as a child of young divorce of myself, “The Amazing Rudy” hit hard. Got me all teary eyed and everything.

Bob’s Burgers has always handled these sort of family subjects well and is able to affect it’s audience spectacularly. The piano that started in the beginning and continued all throughout the episode, really set the mood for the episode. And I got a quick idea of what was going on.

I was able to really relate to Rudy in this episode. I’ve felt a lot of that very much so. It meant a lot to me to see it in this show. To give Rudy his own episode, to give those people like him, experiencing what he is, even if not exactly, a character to understand so deeply.

Divorce is hard, and it hurts.

And this episode was beautiful.

Hi, I actually LOVE the new bobs burgers seasons.

This is just for me to get all my thoughts out because I HAVE SO MANY but especially these newest episodes from season 14. Linda and Louise's relationship being expanded on in both episodes with Linda being so proud of her strong little girl in the way shes stubborn and so so kind at the same time. Don't get me wrong, of course I love the wild and crazy earlier seasons but the way these new ones actually make me feel? I end up crying more often than not, and I just love this stupid cartoon tv family that were supposed to be cannibals and how I can see myself in all of them.

One of the most uplifting facts we can take from The Amazing Rudy is that the less-than-ideal home life we've always assumed Rudy to have is only temporary as everyone involved are still settling into the groove of things after what appears to be a rather recent divorce. And it has me thinking; if Rudy can be this cheerful, wonderful, amiable, loyal trooper we know & love while going through what's probably the most difficult time of his young life, what will he be like once it's all settled?
