One of my favorite things about The Mario Movie is the way it introduces the characters, specifically the way it introduces Bowser and The Mario Bros back to back.

The film starts with Bowser's assault on The Snow Kingdom. His warship dwarfs the entire city, its sheer scale bubbling over and melting the landscape in its wake.

All Bowser needs to do is glance at Kamek in order to subjugate an entire army in seconds, and his fire breath just as quickly decimates the facade of a towering city.

Everyone rightly fears him. Those that don't quickly learn to. The amount of power and resources at his fingertips is borderline ridiculous.

The first words out of his mouth are threats, and they are threats he is easily able– if not excited– to follow through on.

He ends the scene victorious and with even more power than he had before.

Then we cut to a commercial filmed on cheap green screen to the soundtrack of a goofy rap song, advertising two blue collar guys who are just hoping to get paid to fix people's pipes, and the first words out of their mouths outside of the advertisement is them gushing about how proud they are of each other for their little, low-budget crumb of success.

Oh, Honey, you've got a big storm comin.'

i'm sure this has already been talked about before, but one bowuigi thing that i was thinking about the other morning was the idea of Luigi moving into Bowser's Castle, and then finding himself missing Mario a lot as the weeks went by (because it'd just been the two of them sharing one tiny house for the longest, and they're a bit codependent, tbh)

So what does Bowser do about his bf moping around in the halls about not having seen his brother for a while? Kidnap Princess Peach, of course! Because, as you know, Mario always comes to save her, so once he's taken her back to the castle all they have to do is wait. And as a bonus, Luigi gets to hang out with Peach, too!

Luigi appreciates the gesture, but also: did he really have to mobilize the entire army for this? It would have been far easier to like. Send a letter containing a vaguely polite request. Or a messenger. Or wait till the next Party/sports tournament/kart racing event, even???

It's not like Luigi was doing anything about his homesickness, Bowser retorts, with how he was too busy worrying about inconveniencing his friends with his feelings to take any steps to remedy them. And besides, what else was he supposed to use all these new airships for? A taxi service?

(and anyway, Bowser is 300% willing to mobilize his army a thousand times over if doing so led to a chance for Luigi to be happy. But maaaybe he'll keep that sentiment to himself for now. Save it for when he could fully appreciate Luigi blushing hard enough to rival the carpet's crimson tones.)

Shy Guys Work For Bowser Part 1

I've come across some people that believe the Shy Guys are not part of Bowser's army and hold no allegiance, this is here to serve as a debunking of that.

Shy Guys in the Yoshi's Island games are enemies that are part of the Koopa Army that fight against the Yoshis.

They also appear in Super Mario 64 among the various enemies Mario faces off against.

There is also Captain Shy Guy and Sergeant Shy Guy from Mario & Luigi: Bowser's Inside Story + Bowser Jr.'s Journey, both members of the Koopa Army. Bowser's Inside Story also has the Shy Guy Squad who are also among Bowser's Minions.

There is also the parallel between the movie and the games as well, with Shy Guys being part of Bowser's ranks in here as well.

So, the trailer for the Super Mario Bros. Illumination movie was just released, and...

It actually looks promising. The animation is great to look at, and the character animation is nice, and the designs are almost exactly like the games. The voice acting is actually good, too. I mean, Chris Pratt as Mario sounded... okay, Jack Black actually sounds good as Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad was surprisingly decent, and Kevin Michael Richardson's impression of Kamek is quite impressive. It kinda reminds me of his role as the Joker from The Batman... kinda. I mean, I've never watched The Batman, but I have seen a few clips of the Joker.

Overall, I'm actually excited for this movie, because it looks like it has a lot of potential.

Thinking about Bowser Jr and how the dynamic would be in the movie universe where Bowser's not just a regular baddy who causes trouble on a monthly basis, but an overpowered maniac with a long history of doing significant damage. He has conquered kingdoms and left them in ruins. His presence forced the entire Mushroom Kingdom to evacuate, he nearly killed Luigi alongside an army of Donkey Kong's allies (as well as DK himself), and he easily beat Mario to a pulp in their first encounter. Through a combination of teamwork and sheer luck Mario narrowly managed to put this guy away, hopefully for good.

And then along comes Bowser's 13 year old kid.

And this kid loves his dad with all his heart and just wants to make him proud, but making him proud (unfortunately) involves following in his footsteps.

But Mario himself has a long history of wanting to make his dad proud, so he feels for this kid because he's 13, of course he wants to be just like his Dad! But then Junior turns out to be a legitimate threat? And Bowser... for all the damage he's done and lives he's ruined... seems to genuinely love his son in return???

So Mario is caught between helplessly trying to talk this kid down, not letting him hurt anyone, and not getting killed himself, but he did NOT sign up for these conflicting emotions he just wanted to fix people's pipes!

a little headcanon/short story I came up with as I was working on my little luaisy dump in context to this part:

Daisy tends to grossly overestimate how strong Luigi is, simply because he is (in her totally unbiased opinion) one of, if not THE strongest person she’s ever met.

This drawing takes place when Daisy and Luigi’s relationship is still fresh. In the movie verse, she’s heard so many stories about the Super Mario Brothers and how they defeated Bowser, one of the biggest threats amongst all the kingdoms. What’s a few broken plumbers against some of her army, right?

Sarasaland citizens often pride their empire on having the toughest army. When Daisy and Luigi started hanging out more, she put his strength to the test by putting him against 20 of her troops.

It did not go well in the slightest

Mario quickly decided that Daisy was bad news, and it took a while for Luigi to change his mind by saying that she had her own twisted ways of showing affection and that she’s really pretty

HELLOOOO !!!!! I met you through the AU where Luigi escapes, And honestly, what an incredible Au!!! You have so much talent!!

But I wanted to clear up a stupid little doubt , I don't know if you've ever thought about this, but how old would these characters be? (I believe they are your OCs )

You know, I haven't actually thought about their ages, so lets figure it out using the ✨️Power of Overthinking✨️

According to the film, it seems like the type of shell indicates the rank, with blue with spines being the highest and smooth green being the lowest (red and pink could be somewhere in the middle).

Cooper is a green shell promoted to green shell paratroopa, so assuming Bowser doesn't yoink his citizens to join his army at a young age, Cooper, being just a prison guard and not exactly a soldier, would be ranked as someone ranking higher than a novice or rookie (or whatever terms properly fit someone who isnt new, but not combat ready), so he'd be in his mid 20s. I know I said Cooper was the Koopa from the beginning of the film who was shaking inside his shell. So if I declare him to not be combat ready, then why the spear? That's easy. Intimidation. Because Bowser and Kamek didn't even NEED the army.

Felicity was one of the Shy Guys who was out on patrol when she and her other lackies found Luigi alone in the Darklands, making her some sort of scout. So she's probably in her early 20's. Maybe...Chances are Cooper and Felicity are in a similar category perhaps? And of course they'd know each other and hang out a lot. If Felicity catches prisoners, she probably sees Cooper pretty often when turning them in.

Doug is a fun one to figure out. Remember the Koopa who gets burned by Bowser after asking a dumb question? That's him. And if you remember that scene, he was holding a spear, which means this boy KNOWS how to fight, making him older than Cooper and Felicity since he's a soldier. Hes probably a little older than Cooper by a pinch. But he is a gentle soul. I mean, he straight up asks Bowser a question that could get him killed. He has seen too much to like being in the army. And in the comic, he gets locked up afterwards, uses his bones to pick the lock and sneak behind Luigi, Lumalee, and KP (I ran out of pages to post, which is why I didn't draw that scene TT-TT), doesn't rat them out after his head gets stolen, but has to put on a facade once Felicity and Cooper get involved, even gave KP one of his bones so that he doesn't hurt himself while his foot gets cut off, and even gives Cooper advice on how to get his wings to not tickle his shell! Doug fans are gonna like this next update hehehehehe.

So to paraphrase, They're all in their 20s, Doug is the oldest while Felicity is the youngest

mostly thinking about bowser’s army in a natural hive but i can also see him getting a crush on gardener luigi if like, the old one gets attacked and luigi also takes up bee keeping/ saves them from predators idk

bowser uses either a mini or bee mushroom power up while luigi’s not looking and kidnaps him

Another very very dumb Bowuigi AU/fic prompt idea of matchmaking Kamek.

Just Kamek who cares deeply about his surrogate son Bowser and really wants him to have a good partner, he’d be trying to hint about Bowser not focusing on the princess so much but he doesn't know who else there is he’s been trying to find someone worthy of his son but no luck. He has like a full list of requirements and no one comes close.

That is until he starts noticing the green one, normally he pays him no mind but then one time after Mario’s beaten Jr and the other Koopalings he’s about to pick them up when he sees the green one arrive out of breath clearly trying to keep up with his brother and failing, and he’s about to hit him with a  spell when he sees the plumper stop and help the kids up seeing them look angry and sad and instead of running after his brother offers to get the kids some ice cream.

Kamek starts paying attention after that, seeing that Luigi actually meets all the requirements. Not only do all the Koopalings like him, the other residents also like him he see’s him following Mario and turning Goomba that Mario’s knocked over up right as he follows his brother.

Luigi is very confused when Kamek keeps appearing out of nowhere asking random questions and then looking happy and disappearing again, he looks out the window and Kamek is just there.

Basically everyone decided Luigi would be a good dad/co king and literally perfect for Bowser. Kamek starts trying to hint and match make and it’s not working, not that they don’t like each other he’s noticed Luigi get all flustered and Bowser stare at times before shaking his head and brushing it off.

He’s one more hint away from calling the Broodals to help plan the wedding and just shove them both down the isle and he knows the kids and the whole army would help him.

They have a plan tell Bowser they’re trying the same basic wedding plan again this time they know how to stop Mario and it is the same only the kidnap Luigi not Peach.

Mario of course freaks out but Peach can see whats happening and is very excited for it and spends the rescue mission pointing out all the times Luigi has been a blushing mess over Bowser ect Mario is now 1) happy his brother might like someone who likes him 2)IT’S BOWSER WHY LUIGI YOU COULD DO BETTER 3) How dare they not invite him to his brothers wedding!
