Plot: After the death of his wife, a scientist studying brainwaves grows obsessed with finding a way to speak to the dead.

Review: Were it not for its disappointing ending, this film would have been a sincerely fresh, genre-bending exploration of grief and the ends to which it can push people.

Story: 2/5 - With a sympathetic lead and interesting ideas, like a fraud medium and electricity being used to contact the dead, this story was fascinating for most of its run. Sadly, its end is so abrupt and its resolution so nonexistent that it undoes itself.

Performances: 4/5 - Karloff is fantastic as a once-charming man turned grief-stricken recluse, and Revere is fun as a greedy fraud.

Cinematography: 3.5/5 - Good use of focus and lighting.

Editing: 2.5/5

Music: 2.5/5 - Cliche.

Effects & Props: 4/5 - Genuinely fun and sometimes even striking.

Sets: 3/5 - While cheap, they were staged and shot in such a way that made up for it.

Costumes, Hair, & Make-Up: 3.5/5
