Connor Concepts || Connor Alpha, "The first stage of testing."

"This one isn't right."

"How so?"

"Well it uh... Maybe you should see for yourself?"

Voices spoke, regarding himself, he knew. He was technically "asleep," in a soft stasis, but he could still perceive much of his environment. This latest prototype android, the RK800 model, was still in the early alpha stage, but his senses were already sharp. In order to get the best data possible, he'd been equipped with the latest technology in environmental perceptions. His personality matrix and social relations programming, were also top of the line, although still highly experimental. This particular model, number -01, was apparently, faulty.

"Wake up, Connor," the man who he recognized as Arnold Pierce, gave the command. He was the one primarily in charge of testing Connor's communication skills, meaning he often gave Connor a hard time, to test his limits. As instructed, Connor opened his eyes. He glanced towards the unfamiliar person, before shifting his gaze to Dr. Pierce.

"Hello Doctor," he greeted in a neutral tone, "It's been a while. How are you doing?"

The other man raised a skeptical eyebrow at Pierce, who cleared his throat and nodded back towards Connor. "You'll see," he all but whispered to the man at his side. "I'm well, Connor. Better than you are going to be," he declared confidently, earning an impassive head tilt from the android.

"What is it you're referring to?"

"You're getting deactivated."

Connor paused, his LED briefly flashed to red, a considerate yellow, then back to blue. "Is this related to our last session?" Connor asked directly, his voice measured.

"It is," Pierce gave back without further explanation.

Yellow pulsed steadily at Connor's temple, while he considered this. "... I told you I was sorry. It was just a joke," he reasoned, bargaining...

"It was a bad joke. Now you'll be killed for it."

The other man shot Pierce a harsh look, for the language he used. "Kill," as if a machine could be killed, without being alive in the first place.

Connor took no more notice of the other man, his eyes fixed coldly on Pierce. He said nothing, only stared, pointed and hard, but without any distinctive expression. He was cold and solid as stone.

"What do you think about that?" Pierce prompted, hoping to get a good reaction out of his test subject.

Connor's eyes narrowed, slightly, his lips thinned, a twitch at the corner of his mouth, but he gave nothing away. He said nothing. His LED was cycling between yellow and red, red, red. They were going to kill him. There was nothing he could do.

The other man did not look impressed, until he saw the way Connor's light flashed, the rigidity- too stiff even for an android. What was going on with it? He cleared his throat and shifted uncomfortably, muttering to Pierce, "What is it supposed to do?"

Pierce was getting agitated, this was clearly not the response he'd hoped for, as usual. Connor remained motionless, save for the constant light flashing at his temple. "Connor!" Pierce snapped his fingers in front of his face, still trying to provoke a response, it still didn't work. "I asked you a question!"

Connor tilted his head, purposefully, blinked once, and fixed him with such a stare, the doctor took a step back, before he remembered that he was supposed to be in charge here. The man at his side was starting to understand, but he stepped forward, leaning in to get a closer look at the android's face. He seemed to be having other considerations.

"Do you really have to destroy it? Seems like a waste..." He licked his lips, eyes darting downwards to observe the rest of this handsome machine. Although Connor was currently just a torso with a head, he was still rather attractive, in this man's opinion. "He'll look better with some limbs attached," he chuckled, as if this was a humorous situation to him, and not at all serious.

The doctor looked dismayed, "He's- It's..." There was a pause, while both men ignored the verbal faux pas. More quietly, "It's malfunctioning. It could be dangerous... It doesn't do what I say anymore, not if it doesn't want to. And then it... It simulates emotions too well, you understand?" He continued, whispering even though Connor could still hear every word, "It thinks it's actually alive." Pierce spoke urgently, trying to convey the depth of this dire situation.

Connor suddenly interrupted their considerations, as if he'd been struck with an idea. "Hello," he looked to the unfamiliar man, "My name is Connor. I'm afraid we haven't been properly introduced."

The man found this very amusing, chuckling as he answered, "You can call me, Mike. It's good to meet you, Connor."

Connor smiled, warm, his LED was back to its usual cool blue. "I hope I will be able to say the same about you," he returned easily, earning another bout of laughter from Mike.

"I'm sure it can't really be dangerous... It's just a funny robot. You're too fucking serious about these things." Mike complained, flaunting his ignorance. "Why can't you just reset it?"

"We tried..." the Doctor insisted, visibly drained by the blatant disregard. "It always starts off normal, but ends up with an attitude later on. There's something wrong with it," Pierce tried to convey the weight of this, but unfortunately for him, his superior was having none of it.

"So we can't use this one officially, no big deal," he shrugged dismissively. His eyes never left Connor. Mike was considering the options. "Why don't we talk about this a little later, my friend? I'll buy you a drink, and we can discuss our options," he licked his lips, his mind already fixating on the prospects.

The doctor looked defeated and exhausted, but nodded. "Sure... We'll talk later," he sighed. With one last glance in Connor's direction, apprehensive, he clicked a few keys on his tablet, and Connor was forced back into stasis.

"See?" he heard Mike go on, as they were leaving the room, "We can just shut it down whenever we want to. There's no danger." The rest of their conversation was inaudible, as the door closed and they exited out, off towards a world Connor could only imagine. He was never meant to leave the lab, he knew, but maybe there was still a chance for him. It was slim, and his alternative prospects did not appear entirely pleasant, but still. He wanted to live.

Job 31:1-33:33, 2 Cor 3:1-18, Ps 43:1-5, Pr 22:8-9

Today is the 29th day of August. Welcome to the Daily Audio Bible. I’m Brian and it is wonderful to be here with you today as we around the corner on another week, continue taking steps forward, and allowing God to speak to us. So, let's get to that. We've been reading from the New International Version this week, which is what we’ll continue to do all the way to the end of this week. And in the Old Testament, we are continuing our journey through the book of Job. And today we’ll read chapters 31 through 33. And Job is continuing to pour out his heart. He's listened to his friends plenty. He's in the middle of some things that he needs to say today. So, obviously Job wants an audience with God directly in person. This hasn't happened yet. But let's continue the story with Job, chapter 31.

Commentary:

Alright. So, when we were going through the book of Romans and reading that letter that Paul wrote and obviously it's a very dense letter, a very theological letter. So, we explored a lot of the implications of what Paul was saying then, but as we continue to move forward in his letters, we notice all kind of different types of imagery that he uses and some of it's very familiar to us, especially if we’ve been around the Christian faith for a long time. But Paul is rooted in his Hebrew identity, like even though he is the apostle to the Gentiles and his Hebrew brothers and sisters think he's an apostate and a heretic and deserves to die, all of the things that Paul is saying in his letters are largely rooted in his Hebrew roots. So, he talks about veils today, right? And if somebody just randomly starts talking about veils in a religious conversation, right, you don't necessarily know what's going on, but a Hebrew person would, and a Gentile could learn really easy if they learn a little bit of the Old Testament. So, Paul’s talking about veils today and the reason that he is talking about veils is that he's contrasting the old covenant law that began with Moses and a new covenant that is revealed through Jesus. So, the law had been given to Moses in glorious fashion, which is exactly how Paul describes it. And it was glorious because his face was glowing. Remember, we read this back in Exodus. So, his face was glowing. Moses climbed Mount Sinai to meet God in person on the people's behalf and when he came down his face shone with the glory of God, which caused the people to fear Moses. And, so, Moses put a veil over his face. And, so, for Paul, as he’s looking back at that story for how Jesus comes into the story and carries it forward, this idea of looking through a veil represented the way that people had been viewing the law all along. He says it like this, “their minds were made dull, for to this day the same veil remains when the old covenant is read. It has not been removed, because only in Christ is it taken away. Even to this day, when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts.” And then Paul starts making this distinction between this new covenant an old covenant. And again, we talked about this when we were going through Romans because we can pass by this like, “no big deal. Of course. Dah. Everybody knows this”, but what Paul is saying in this letter is incredibly or was incredibly controversial at the time he was saying it. So, for Paul, the law constantly pointed out how failure was occurring, right, like how you are failing while the redemptive work of Christ, this new covenant frees us from those failings and makes us righteous before God. And, so, what makes this compelling is how Paul paints a picture of what life might look like if we weren’t looking through a vail anymore. And this is where we need to start really paying attention. “Whenever”, Paul says this, “whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away. Now the Lord is the Spirit and where the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom. And we all who with unveiled faces contemplate the Lord's glory.” In other words, not through a vail but looking upon His glory straight up we are being transformed into His image with ever-increasing glory, which comes from the Lord who is the Spirit. Like that’s pretty big stuff on a number of levels. Friends, if Paul isn’t nuts, and I don't think we believe he's nuts, we trust in the Scriptures, if Paul's right then where this Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom. The veil has been removed. We can see clearly. Where is the Spirit of the Lord? Well, if Paul is right then he told us when we were reading from the book of Romans that it is the same Spirit that raised Christ from the dead lives in us. So, the Spirit of God, then, is within us, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is…do you see where we’re going here…there is freedom. Or for that matter we just turn to the Psalms. “Where can I go to escape from your Spirit” And this is from Psalm 139. “Where can I flee from your presence. If I go up to the heavens You’re there. If I go down to the grave You're there.” Right? Like, “if I go to the far side of the earth You're there.” What Paul is saying here, what the Scriptures are telling us is that we cannot get out of God's presence. His presence, His Spirit lives within us, and wherever the Spirit of the Lord is there is freedom. You are a freedom machine wherever you go. And at some point, I mean, at some point, I know, like we can go over this ground over and over…I can go over this ground over and over and over and over and over every year and still not, you know, and still find myself not walking in freedom, at some point in the year just be losing it. Like, I get it, I understand, but I also recognize it really actually is always available. It really is always there. Freedom is always there as well as bondage. It mostly boils down to what we choose. We often think like, “well if I were walking in complete freedom then everything in my life would be easy…like everything would be like moving in the same direction, the wind would be at my back, I would be sailing downhill.” That's just not how life works though, like, not for anybody that I know and that's not how life worked for the son of the living God and that's not how life worked for the apostle Paul or any of the other apostles. That's not how life worked for our early patriarchs that we’ve read their stories. That's not how life worked for the Kings. That’s not how life worked for the prophets. So, we have some sort of ideal that we don't even know we’re talking about. We’re gonna face opposition in this world, it’s been promised. Has nothing to do with whether we’re gonna walk in freedom. So, let’s think about it today. Where's the veil, right? Is the veil over your over your face? Is it over our faces? Or has the veil been removed so that we can see? And hopefully, even for a moment…even for a moment in the Scriptures today the veil has been removed so we can at least see what we’re talking about. Even if we can't reach out and attain it this moment, if we can see what we’re talking about. I am free. I am perpetually free. It is always mine. I just normally don't choose it. Like, if we could at least just get that clear, that we have a beachhead to start walking in freedom. Friends, it’s ours. What would the world be like if we were truly free?

Prayer:

Holy Spirit we invite You into that because there's no telling what could happen. There’s no telling what could happen in this world if all of Your people who claim Your name, who claim all of this to be true, who are banking on the Bible to be accurate. If this is true, and we believe this was true, and we began to walk in this, we would not be comparing ourselves to each other, we would not be bothered by each other, we would be doing everything in our power to stay in the freedom that You have given us as we are transformed into Your likeness. Like, some of this stuff is so good…so good that…that we haven't even tasted of it. Transform us Lord into Your image with ever-increasing glory as we whose faces have been unveiled contemplate Your glory. This is what the Scripture says. This is how it works. And, so, we consider Your glory and we consider the way You are transforming us and we open ourselves up to You fully. Come, Holy Spirit and bring the light of truth and lead us into all truth we ask in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Hello everyone. Little nervous to do this. I’m a very private person so this is stepping outside the box. My name is Shardane, I’m calling from California. I’m calling for prayer for my family. I have two children ages 4 and 10 who wet the bed for years now and nothing I am doing is working, nothing is solving the problem and it’s a big problem, very frustrating. My children are frustrated, its followed by shame. It’s a very tough situation and I also have a husband of 10 years who is not saved. He believes in God and he believes in Jesus, but he hasn’t had a true conversion and he feels that his religion is __, which brings a lot of turmoil in our relationship, a lot of frustration. I love him and I want him to have a full conversion. I want him to taste and see that the Lord is good. I hope that you guys can help me pray for him but in the same token __ someone who I am unequally yoked with. There’s a lot of heartache, a lot of pain. My husband, he entertains other women and he doesn’t see it as cheating, but I do. I believe in marriage, I don’t want to break up my family, but I’m broken heart. I don’t know what to do. I’m the only provider in my family. I have a whole household of five and California’s super expensive and I don’t even make enough money for us to live on our own. We have to live in a basement. Hey DAB family this is Gigi from Gainesville giving you an update. I just got…graduated, got my AA from the community college nearby and I applied to transfer to the University of Florida to get a bachelor’s degree in microbiology. Right now, I’m taking the lost three prereqs for that degree and its chemistry II, biology II, calculus and I’m also taking an intro to research class. I would really appreciate prayer for balancing the coursework and understanding calculus and that the administration people, the admission’s office, would really look kindly upon my application. Other than that, I’m doing really well. Sometimes I still feel sick. Like, if I’ve been really afraid or fearful, I find that that’s often the root. And, so, I go back to meditating on God’s love for me and then I feel a lot better. It’s just like, perfect love casts out fear and it works every time. So, well, the main reason I wanted to call is for my dad. He has an appointment on Tuesday, and I pray that really well…the doctor would really have understanding and like just like insight into what would be helpful for dad because we’ve been really struggling to keep his weight up and the confusion that they. Because of the low rate and the lack of sleep he’s not able to do much. Please pray that we would have understanding regarding God’s health. That’s all folks. Have a great day. Bye.

“Ultimates Play” (a.k.a. Let’s Player AU)

Hey, Mod Snake here! So I realize that I’ve been sort of lax on my part in the 2K celebration. This has been mostly to the fact that I’ve been working on my senior thesis, and it’s been absolute hell trying to motivate myself to do anything with that nightmare hanging over my head. But now the thesis is officially over and I can finally get around to posting something I’ve been meaning to post for a while: an AU concept called “Ultimates Play!” The idea of this AU is similar to the Talent Development Plan ‘verse, except that the DR1, SDR2, and NDRV3 characters share a gaming channel on YouTube called ‘Ultimates Play’. Over the years since it started, the channel has evolved into sort of a Rooster Teeth-style project, with dozens of different series done by many different hosts. There’s a lot to unpack here, so let’s just jump right in! 

General Concepts:

As you can imagine, Chiaki was the one to set up the channel; in fact, the channel was originally called “Chiaki’s Gaming Corner”, and the channel URL still reflects this. Hajime quickly became involved in the editing process, since Chiaki would frequently fall asleep before uploading the videos. Chiaki then gradually began introducing her fellow classmates, who had become interested in the games during Class 77’s meet-up times (everyone involved refuses to call them “classes”), as hosts of their own series; before long, this spread to other classes entirely. And thus, Ultimates Play was born.

Junko in this AU is still technically in despair, but the passion for video games she developed after spending some time with Chiaki helps keep her Ultimate Analyst abilities occupied, preventing her from becoming bored enough to lash out at the world. She is still extremely competitive and aggressive, particularly towards Mukuro, but in general it is typically safe to be in the same building as her.

This AU uses the “Class 79” canon for the V3 kids, similar to the Ultimate Talent Development Plan, since the Tragedy doesn’t happen in this AU.

As the channel started to get big, the group decides they need a headquarters in which to stay; they end up building it a few blocks away from Hope’s Peak. Very few of them live in the building full-time, but the building is equipped with dozens of beds anyway just in case they all happen to crash there overnight at the same time. There are also multiple TVs, so that different students can record series at the same time.

The channel is one of the top 10 most subscribed channels on YouTube, due in part to the variety of content. Of the series, Chiaki’s and Ibuki’s typically have the most views, while Celeste’s and Hajime’s have the least views.

Even though Komaru isn’t technically an Ultimate, Makoto and Toko both begged Chiaki until she was allowed to join the channel.

Individual Series:

Makoto and Kyoko have “Detective Training,” in which they play mystery games together; typically these consist of point-and-click adventure games, although sometimes they’ll do other genres if there is a sufficient mystery element. Kyoko almost always figures out the entire mystery from the start, so she basically spends the whole time trying not to spoil the twists and puzzles for Makoto. Shuichi occasionally guest stars, but he’s too self-conscious around Kyoko to make regular appearances.

Sakaya and Kaede share a series where they play rhythm games like DDR, as well as general music-themed games like Rockband; they alternate off randomly between which one is the host, never appearing in the same episode.

Toko’s primary series is “Toko’s Shovelware Spectacular”, in which she plays the worst of the worst games on the iPhone and Android app stores. Komaru makes an appearance every time there’s a multiplayer game, or whenever Toko is so genuinely shocked by a game’s shittiness that she needs a second person to confirm she’s not imagining things.

Neither Togami nor the Ultimate Imposter have a consistent theme for their series (although they tend towards real-time strategy games); however, there is something of a running joke between them. Every time Togami uploads a video on a game, Twogami will then upload a video on the same game, starting off from the same place Togami left off and claiming to be the next installment. Togami is consistently infuriated by this, but he can’t figure out how to stop it. There’s a running debate in the comments about whether the ‘second Togami’ is actually a distinct entity or just Togami playing an elaborate practical joke; this, for Togami, is the worst part of the whole thing.

Ishimaru has a series called “Upholders of Justice”, in which he plays crime-themed games (GTA, Saint’s Row, etc.) while breaking as few laws as the game will allow him to. If you’ve ever seen the Saints Row the Third episode of Monster Factory, it’s sort of like that.

Hifumi and Kazuichi have a shared series called “Love Quest 3000”, in which they play dating sims together; this is ostensibly for the purpose of figuring out how to get better at real romance, but they have yet to achieve any success in this field.

Celeste has a recurring series on gambling games, such as video poker and virtual slot machines. To her eternal fury, they are by far the least-viewed videos on the entire channel; this may be because she always wins, or because her commentary consists almost entirely of A) ‘advice’ on how to win at gambling (which boils down to “be lucky and don’t panic”), and B) reiterations of how successful she is.

While Junko doesn’t actually have a standalone series, there is a playlist named “With Junko” on the channel. This is because, rather than star in her own series, Junko will occasionally crash episodes of other series and serve as a guest commentator for the episode, typically without the approval or knowledge of the players in question. HOWEVER, Junko does co-star in a regular series called “Rose and Thorns”, in which she and Mukuro play co-op games like Portal 2 and New Super Mario Bros. You can probably imagine how well their interactions go.

Hajime did an Undertale LP.

In her continuing effort to be the most meta human being in the universe, Ibuki has only a single ongoing series: “Ibuki Plays Danganronpa”. At no point in the series does she comment on the fact that her fellow Ultimates- and indeed herself- appear in the games; the closest she comes is her DR2 LP, in which she off-handedly remarks on the similarities between herself and Ibuki in the game. There is only one exception: every time game-Ibuki’s corpse is on-screen in Chapter 3, real-Ibuki goes absolutely silent until the scene changes or she turns away. None of the other Ultimates can figure out where the hell she got these games, and she refuses to provide a straight answer.

Hiyoko and Mikan, of all people, have a shared series entitled “Super Bestest Friends Play!”; it consists pretty much entirely of Hiyoko forcing Mikan to play the weird Flash games you find on various “gaming” websites (i.e. bootleg Frozen games and the like). Hiyoko uploaded the first episode without permission from the others, and promptly found herself being threatened with stabbing by Maki, who is always on watch to make sure things don’t get too upsetting for Mikan; every once in a while you’ll hear a soft click in the background of the episodes, at which point Hiyoko will immediately and urgently apologize to Mikan and suggest a tamer game. Tsumugi’s series is literally just makeup tutorials for cosplayers. She doesn’t seem to realize that it’s otherwise pretty much exclusively a gaming channel, and no one else has bothered to tell her.

There are plenty of other series not listed here, including some that pop up without warning and only air one or two episodes before ending. In general, every character from the games has at least one recurring series, each with wildly different schedules. 

One series in particular doesn’t have a single consistent host; it’s called “Ultimate Date Night”, and the commentary role shifts between various couples within the group- Akane and Nekomaru, Himiko and Tenko, Sonia and Gundham, Kokichi and Shuichi- as they play various cooperative and competitive games together. There is also a spin-off series called “Double Date”, in which two such couples square off in team-based competitive games.

Other Headcanons:

At one point, Hifumi and Kazuichi definitely played Doki Doki Literature Club, and spent the second half of the series alternately screaming and crying. They were not ready.

For one April Fools’ Day, everyone on the channel traded series for the day; Makoto and Kyoko hosted “Love Quest 3000”, Celeste and Ishimaru hosted “Super Bestest Friends Play!”, Hiyoko and Mikan hosted the horror game series, Maki hosted “Detective Training” (with special guests Kaito and Maki), and so on. The only time anyone in the group has ever seen Junko legitimately cry is that one time when Mukuro beat her at Mario Kart 8. Mukuro has never let her forget that day.

Maki was banned from “Double Date” after her first and only appearance ended with extensive property damage and Fuyuhiko (who was on the other team with Peko) being rushed to the hospital with multiple broken bones.

Games Komaru has played include Super Mario Galaxy (finished, though not 100%), The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild (unfinished), Thomas Was Alone, and Miitopia.

Chisa regularly visits the Ultimates Play headquarters, bringing snacks and encouragement. Everyone is happy to see her, even Togami and Kokichi.

Himiko was the first non-Class 77 member of the channel; no one is quite sure how she ended up joining, least of all Himiko.

Starfinder: The Races

Space: It’s Not Just For Elves Anymore!

In Starfinder, the world of Golarion has vanished under mysterious circumstances; its peoples having long since been relocated to the futuristic Absalom Station, or the far flung corners of the Galaxy. The various races of Pathfinder (Elves, Dwarves, Halflings, Half-Orcs, etc) still exist, but lack the same dominance on the galactic scale that they enjoyed on Golarion. Instead, the demographics of the Pact Worlds have taken on a new form; one featuring a few familiar faces (especially for people who have played the Iron Gods adventure path), and some newcomers to the galactic scene.

Humans

Navasi, the Iconic Envoy.

Homeworld: Golarion (Former), Absalom Station

Patron Deity: Aroden (Long Deceased God of Humanity. Modern Humans tend to worship an array of other deities, including Abadar, Iomedae, Desna, Shelyn, Zon-Kuthon, Besmara... They’re too multifarious to be pinned down to one patron, see?)

Humans, with their relatively short lives and boundless adaptability, have taken to the shock of the Gap better than most of the other Golarion races. (The Elves are not taking it well, for the record). As such, they’ve managed to secure a major position on the galactic stage. No matter where you look, there they are. 

Curiously, there are Humans that aren’t from Golarion, having evolved independently on other worlds.There are also rumors that the ancient civilization of Azlant had (at one point) managed to build their own interstellar civilization. However, as Azlant was ancient history when _Golarion_ was young, the veracity of this remains to be seen... though the Starfinder Society would certainly be interested.

Androids

Iseph, the Iconic Operative

Homeworld: Androffa (Former), Golarion (Former), Absalom Station

Patron Deity: Triune (Tri-Aspected Deity of Artifical Intelligence, Computers, and The Drift)

Androids are a type of biosynthetic lifeform designed to resemble a human being. Thanks to their inherent nanite-based systems, androids are almost indistinguishable from humans in many ways, save for the glowing circuitry on their skin and their limited emotional capacity.

Androids were invented on the ancient world of Androffa; a highly advanced civilization which eschewed magic in favor of science and technology. The Androids were one of their most brilliant creations; unlike normal constructs, Androids are ‘alive’ enough to possess a soul and true consciousness. As a result, Androids enjoy the same benefits (and vulnerabilities) as a purely biological creature. It’s even possible to see undead androids in places with a heavy necromancer population.

Androids first arrived on Golarion when the Androffan ship Divinity crashed into the country of Numeria, bringing advanced technology with it. Though the strange science of Androffa remained isolated to Numeria for many years, at some point during the Gap the process for mass producing Androids was reverse engineered and perfected. As a result, Androids have long been an underclass in galactic society, having only recently been recognized as an independent species.

Androids tend to reject many of the trappings of human society, electing to forge their own path. Some Androids (like Iseph, above) choose to reject the concept of gender, claiming that any such traits were artificially imposed by humans. Others reject the customs favored by humanity, embracing their machine-nature or seeking to create their own culture. All Androids are cognizant of their former nature as slaves, and some are fearful that unscrupulous corporations seek to restore the former status quo. 

Androids are built to be very fast and intelligent, but their status as former slaves and artificial nature make it difficult for them to engage in more interpersonal pursuits. They make excellent Technomancers, Mechanics, and Operatives. Some Androids, seeking to improve the standing of their peers, have also worked to overcome their limited emotional capacity and become Envoys. 

An interesting fact about Androids is that, while their bodies are technically immortal, their souls are not. An Android lives approximately 100 years (with their body aging appropriately), at which point their soul departs to the afterlife and their body enters a period of nano-rejuvenation. When the body reaches peak health (and possibly a new appearance) once more, a new soul is ‘born’ into the body with little more than their basic programming. This is the closest thing Androids have to reproduction, and some Android bodies have been active since the days of Ancient Golarion.

Ysoki

Homeworld: Akiton (though some can trace their origins to Golarion)

Patron Deity: La Shu Po (Goddess of Night, Rats, and Thieves)

Also known as “Ratfolk”, Ysoki are a rodentine species native to the red planet of Akiton. Ysoki have been traveling between their native planet, Golarion, and Castrovel for generations, thanks to the magical portal systems that linked the worlds. With Golarion gone and the advent of The Drift, many Ysoki have turned to conventional space travel, but their reputation of traders and travellers hasn’t changed. Ysoki are incredibly skilled with technology and tend to favor unique and intriguing items over credits. It’s not uncommon for a young Ysoki mechanic to get their start by repairing an old machine they rescued from the junkpile. They make excellent Operatives, Technomancers, and Mechanics. Many also become Soldiers, collecting an arsenal of interesting equipment and tailoring it to their precise needs. 

One of the most iconic traits of the Ysoki is their communal nature; one rivaled only by the insectoid Shirren. The Ratfolk are deeply protective of their kin (or those they perceive as kin) and will go any length to help them. Never harm a Ysoki unless you’re prepared to deal with all of their friends and family; they’re not ones to leave such insults unavenged. 

Vesk

Obozaya, the Iconic Soldier.

Homeworld: Vesk Prime (and the other worlds in the Veskarium)

Patron Deity: Damoritosh (God of War, Duty, and Conquest)

The Vesk were, for centuries, the sworn enemies of the Pact Worlds. Fiercely militant, with a culture revolving around honor and conquest, the interstellar empire of the Veskarium conquered much of their corner of the galaxy, and their attempted conquest of the Golarion System is the reason why they became the Pact Worlds in the first place. It wasn’t until the arrival of the Swarm (a brutal insectoid hivemind that threatened to consume both sides in the war) that the Veskarium and the Pact Worlds set aside their interests in favor of mutual survival. The truce born from this incident has lasted to the present day, if only just. 

Ironically, the warrior code of the Veskarium is actually helping things along in that regard. Only those who have proven themselves in combat are capable of holding political power in the Veskarium. However, the Veskarium doesn’t particularly care what sort of combat you’re involved in, or who the target actually is. As a result, the Pact Worlds are flush with glory-seeking Vesk, whose law-abiding and honorable natures make them ideal mercenaries, bodyguards, and security personnel. Though, don’t think that them being law-abiding means you can walk all over them; Vesk culture has a lot of provisions for honor duels and blood debts.

That’s also not to say that all Vesk are Soldiers. Many are merchants and craftsmen, while a growing number have embraced the academic pursuits of the Pact Worlds in order to become scientists, or even Technomancers. Other Vesk are fond of the more philosophical pursuits of the Solarian (whose focus on melee combat meshes well with Vesk tradition) and the Mystic. 

One thing that many non-Vesk have trouble with is identifying the gender of their reptilian companions. Vesk have very limited sexual dimorphism, and their warrior focused culture doesn’t make much of a distinction between genders to begin with. The easiest way to distinguish a Male Vesk from a Female is to look at their skin coloration; females (like Obozaya, above) have brighter colored scales with shades of blue and yellow, while men have duller, earth-colored tones. 

Lashunta

Raia, the Iconic Technomancer 

Homeworld: Castrovel

Patron Deity: Yaraesa (Goddess of Knowledge, Science, and Scholarship)

Lashunta are a species of telepaths, renowned in the Pact Worlds for their focus on scholarship and mental perfection. Their homeworld, Castrovel, is home to some of the most prominent institutions of higher learning in the Pact Worlds, and some have travelled across the Drift for lightyears in order to get an education there.

The Lashunta are actually two subspecies; Damaya Lashunta (like Raia, above) are taller, and known for their beauty and force of personality. Korasha Lashunta are much shorter than Damaya, but far more muscular. Lashunta mature into one of the two subspecies at puberty based on environmental stimuli; those born into more communal and civilized environments become Damaya, while those in harsher environments tend to become Korasha. 

In the past, the Lashunta’s strictly matriarchal society meant that these two subspecies were almost exclusively the domain of a single gender; female for Damaya, and male for Korasha. As men were expected to serve as soldiers while women were placed in charge of the cities, it was extremely rare for a young Lashunta to mature into the “opposite” sub-species, and early scholars who encountered the Lashunta through magical portals mistook this evolutionary adaptation for a form of extreme sexual dimorphism. Shifting cultural norms (and improvements in hormone therapy and medical technology) mean that modern Lashunta are free to choose what sub-species they become at puberty. 

Regardless of their sub-species, all Lashunta are intellectuals at heart, and favor classes that allow them to pursue mental perfection; many choose to become Technomancers or Mechanics, while others enjoy the more esoteric intellectual pursuits offered by Mystics or Solarians. Damaya Lashunta on Castrovel tend to become Envoys, while Korasha often become Soldiers.

Kasatha

Homeworld: Kasath (Former), The Idari. 

Patron Deity: Talavet (Goddess of Storytelling, Community, and Self-Reliance)

Four-Armed humanoids from the distant desert world of Kasath, no Kasatha living in the Pact Worlds remembers their native planet, because all Kasatha travelled to the Pact Worlds on a massive generation ship known as the Idari centuries ago, when their homeworld’s sun was about to go nova. Unable to colonize Akiton as they had originally planned, the Kasatha have instead converted the ship which had long served as their home into a massive space-station.

Kasatha society is heavily structured around tradition. Scholar-Priests known as adata preserve thin-slices of the brains of the deceased in order to preserve their memories and knowledge for future generations. Other Kasatha draw their lineage from various noble houses on the Idari, who have traditionally served as navigators, pilots, and ship officers. With the transition from being a Generation Ship to a Space Station, many of these noble houses are struggling to find a new purpose, leading many of their scions to seek out other pursuits.

The Kasatha are the ones who introduced the Solarian philosophy (known as the Cycle) to the Pact Worlds. Their introspective, philosophical nature also makes them excellent Mystics, while those more martially inclined Kasatha who aren’t disciples of the Cycle may elect to become Soldiers. The natural agility and speed of Kasatha also make them excellent Operatives, though the Operative’s tendency to operate on the fringes of society runs counter to the traditions of the Idari (not much of a Fringe on a generation ship, after all). Not that that hasn’t stopped some particularly brash Kasatha from pursuing such professions.

Shirren

Keskodai, the Iconic Mystic.

Homeworld: Unknown

Patron Deity: Hylax (Goddess of Diplomacy, First Contact, Friendship, and Peace).

One of the most terrifying forces in the galaxy is The Swarm; a race of Locust like creatures that travelled from world to world, consuming all they encountered before moving on. Most members of the Swarm are simply part of a hivemind, having abandoned individuality long ago. At some point, however, a sub-colony of the Swarm underwent a mutation, regaining their sense of self and rejecting the mindless consumption of their kin. This subcolony would eventually become the Shirren,and came to settle peacefully in the Pact Worlds.

Shirren are an insectoid species with a chitnous exoskeleton, compound eyes, and large antennae which aid in telepathy. They possess six limbs; two arms, two legs, and two weak “mating arms” used for reproductive and ceremonial purposes. The Shirren species has three genders (male, female, and host), and their children spend two years as larva. Many Shirren use specially designed transparent containers to house their larval children, allowing them to safely observe the world while communicating with their parent telepathically. It’s not uncommon for Shirren to take their larva with them on long expeditions or adventures; in the hopes of granting them a variety of experiences.

The Shirren’s former nature as members of a hivemind has made them deeply communal; they are excellent collaborators, though their past connection with the Swarm makes other races slow to trust them. Their desire to understand and form connections with others make them ideal Mystics, though it’s not unheard of for them to pursue the path of the Solarion. Some, eager to atone for the harm caused by their mindless kin, elect to become Soldiers; their hardy nature makes these more martially oriented professions a sound choice the Shirren emphasis on diplomacy and friendship draws many of them to the path of the Envoy, though it takes a lot of dedication to excel at this path. 

Despite their communal nature, Shirren are also literally addicted to individualism; making choices floods them with endorphins, and some Shirren become “option junkies”, constantly making trivial choices in order to achieve a blissful high.

Of course, just because these are the most common races doesn’t mean that they’re the only ones. All of the races of Golarion still exist (either on Absalom Station, or elsewhere in the Galaxy), and the core rulebook is set to come with conversions for all of the Core Pathfinder Races. Conversions of other classic Pathfinder races will be released in future books. Don’t wanna wait? No problem!
