strongly dislike the hyperbolic violence of a punitive justice system that seems to be how the internet responds to any bad thing because. the implications of being like "the person who cut down this tree should be tortured to death/put through a wood chipper/hanged/locked up forever"... do you really think that would help? do you think a tree, however special, is worth more than a human life? do you think an act like this negates the possibility of that person ever doing anything good and contributing to the world? do you think it is your right to declare somebody irredeemable?
you're being hyperbolic, i hope, but the underlying mindset of "bad thing = physically hurt this person and take away their future" could use some interrogating, actually! that's not an effective way of dealing with things! it's not going to put the tree back up, it's not going to help the environment, it's only going to cause additional harm. and that is the thing that gets me, how everything always seems to be about PUNISHMENT and hurting wrongdoers and not about minimising harm, not about reducing future damage, not about actual, real justice that might put some goddamn good into this world
this is ESPECIALLY true for crimes that, while shocking and cruel, don't actually physically harm any human beings. like cutting down a special tree. our response to a bad thing should not be to add more, worse things to the world, to be honest. and i am concerned that the tone of these jokes/hyperbolic remarks normalises a mindset and an approach to justice that should not, in fact, be normalised

That time when working in animation made me realize I needed therapy
Since we're on the topic of overworking / being passionate in animation and blah blah blah.  I want to share my story about working on the first season of Hilda (for context I was the animation director), specifically..how completely garbo my mental health got because
I INSISTED ON WORKING MYSELF INTO THE GROUND.
This is a story I've shared when I've had a chance to do lectures or talks, and if there is one really awesome thing that comes with ..weird ..animation clout, its that you can use those powers for good in terms of teaching people about the BS that comes with the job...anyway.
The reason why I like to talk about this is because I insisted on doing it to myself, and that was really got me thinking about the factors that do lead us into over working. Because heres the deal
Hilda season 1 was, without getting into too many details, a heckofatime...especally for the core crew. we were a small group, doing something new because most of us haven't worked on a show before that included pre production. My entire career up to that point had been working on service work for shows that were created in Burbank, so the new pipeline had a ton of challenges. We did all care, and we all believed in the project SOOOO much. I would tell people not to work over time, because I want my team to leave on time - but I was there...a lot. Leaving the studio by 11pm , working through the weekends..it wasnt an uncommon thing for me. sure , it wasnt all the time, but this stuff spans years sometimes so it went in waves. But whenever the challenges came up, i doubled down. because I super believed in it.
And the thing was - other people told me to stop. I had a lot of valid concerns given to me by my friends and team members who saw how I was burning myself out at both ends. And I thought like, well , its my *choice*.  Its my chance to have a voice and be creative and try to do something different and we all have to push ourselves and yes its HARD but. THATS HOW YOU DO IT RIGHT? surely if I just make sure I’m the one overworking and my team isn't.. that's fine.
Well, no, I was immensely effecting my team maybe I wasn’t telling them to work late, but they were seeing me get more and more tired and stay later and later.  I thought they would still approach me for help, or if they struggled. But the issues they had they kept to themselves without wanting to put more on my shoulders. Because they *cared* , just as much as I did ..and we all took more on our shoulders then we should have and there were a lot of things that I could have solved had I fostered a better communication environment.  I became really resentful in my head over the smallest things, I actually saw myself becoming a more hateful person and easily annoyed. I came home every day rambling about the frustrations. Now, let me preface this by saying - my mental state did not only have to do with overworking. I had and have things still to unpack, but the control I had over work and the validation I got from it was a coping mechanism for me. I really didnt think i had any worth as a person outside of this job. It basically was a very nasty cycle that didnt stop until ...well I had gotten so bad I had to.  By the end of the first season I was actually incredibly close to quitting . I was in big anxiety attack territory because I was so worn thin- I had started therapy but eventually moved onto getting medication as well and that was what allowed me to stick it out. ( I have the same therapist and I am on the same meds, it was very hard to do at the time, but i cant imagine my life now without making that choice ). After it was done I was immensely supported by the studio and worked part time as a trainer, which is what i requested to give my brain a break. (Only a few of my closer friends knew how bad I was getting but it was pretty obvious I needed to rest) I'm really proud of the work we did and we keep doing on the show, ..and some other people may have gone through something similar and found it was worth it, but thats not me. I still struggle not to fall back into that mindset, but it helps knowing that if i keep myself out of it , i can help my team out of it, because I know they care about this show just as much as I do. I’m not a martyr, I am a leader, and its up to me to keep myself healthy so I can keep my crew healthy.   I always strive to be better, but i get to decide what that looks like - and for me ..better has nothing to do with the image on the screen. Its got more to do with the experience of the people around me. Readjusting those priorities has helped a lot with keeping my head above water and not add to the pressure that makes it so hard not to get sucked down in the first place.  I do think its good to talk about though , how our passion and language and drive can lead to a lot of us being a part of this cycle. And if theres one good thing about the challenges, its sharing them so at least others can learn faster then you did ;) . take care of yourself friends.

El Camino makes me want to Chew My Arm Off
(I know I’ve made several posts about this movie and my problems with it but I just have to put all of my thoughts down or I’m going to explode)
so, Breaking Bad's sequel movie, El Camino… I’ve tried to like it so long, I’ve seen it 5 or 6 times, and the first few times I saw it I was firmly in denial and thought I enjoyed it even if I had a couple of arguments with it… but I’ve hit this tipping point where I just can't pretend anymore, and I just… hate this movie. and it seems like I shouldn't, right? being a Jesse lover I should be happy that he gets a hopeful, if slightly bittersweet, ending, right? because he does get a somewhat happy ending… right?
except… does he? like even when I was trying to force myself to like El Camino, I was a bit upset by the ending; it seems to be asking a lot of me to believe that Jesse is really getting a particularly hopeful “new beginning” when he’s still alone and without support and now can’t even ever confide in anyone without majorly risking revealing his identity and getting arrested. I also always felt that after the first half of the movie Jesse’s PTSD was kinda… downplayed? and I just have this feeling that might’ve been done with the purpose of making Jesse’s “hopeful” ending a lil more believable considering the circumstances, but I admit that particular aspect might just be in my head.
so that’s not great obviously, or at least it pokes a bit of a hole in the tone of El Camino’s ending for Jesse, but what really tipped me over the edge was realizing what the story communicates in presenting it’s ending as more hopeful and bittersweet instead of just kinda depressing. it communicates that what Jesse needs to do to have a happier life is just make the right choices from now on. BECAUSE YA KNOW, THIS DRUG ADDICTS PROBLEM WAS HE JUST WASN’T MAKING THE RIGHT CHOICES!!!!
and I want to believe that this wasn’t intentional, I know the writers at least sympathize with Jesse, but there are scenes within El Camino that just make it really really hard for me to believe that on some level that isn’t what you’re supposed to take away from it, primarily this one -
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and this scene which follows it a short time afterwards -
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think that we’re supposed to agree with what’s being said by the disappearer guy and Jesse in these scenes, that Jesse is in fact at least somewhat responsible for where he ended up. It’s hard for me to imagine that they’re scenes where you’re expected to say “oh fuck OFF!!” and “sweetheart I understand why you think that but no, they fucked up” at the screen respectively.
now, it’s very in character for Jesse to say what he did to his parents. children who are neglected tend to blame themselves for their own hardships - and I bet Jesse also just wants to lessen the guilt that his parents might feel in general if he can cause he’s a sweet person… but I don’t understand why it was necessary to have the disappearer guy say what he said. he could have said any number of things besides “you made your own luck” to Jesse in response to Jesse not quite having enough money for an identity change, including something simple like the cost of his services is the cost of his services, no exceptions.
and since Vince Gilligan does seem to believe that there is possibly a perfect way to pull off the ending where Jesse did end up in jail even if he couldn’t write it himself I’m even more sure that he’s got a fundamental misunderstanding of the responsibility Jesse has in his actions and what might actually be useful for solving the problems Jesse does have. like yeah, Jesse’s gonna feel guilty whether or not his actions were in his reasonable control because he’s a person who cares about others getting hurt, but I’m sorry, is repentance the actual solution to that? really?
cause, tell me this; how is it useful in any way to continue to “hold Jesse accountable” for his actions by the end of Breaking Bad, isn’t the purpose of doing that to prevent someone from doing the same harmful things again? what is the point of this in Jesse’s case? the only genuinely shitty thing that was his full responsibility and was something that he had a reasonable choice to not do was his attempt to sell drugs to the rehab group, but GUESS WHAT!? Jesse snapped himself out of that idea without much of the way of people telling him it was bad to do. I think this is a lesson learned! and I keep using the term “reasonable choice” for a reason, and it’s because sometimes someone has a choice to do something sure, but it’s unreasonable to expect that every single person will make the “right” choice, like most of the worst things that Jesse does are because he is backed into a corner and/or being manipulated by Walt! oh and Jesse being a drug dealer in the first place? a) selling drugs to people who are seeking them out isn’t actually this massive act of harm long as you’re honest about what you’re selling, people will always use drugs and need to get them from somewhere, also alcohol is more toxic and kills more people than meth does, and b) so while Walt had the choice between selling meth and… accepting help from other people who think that they owe him anyway, Jesse had the choice between selling meth and poorly paying jobs, one of which we see offered is ACTUALLY humiliating, not just “ooh I have to accept help sometimes”, and actually he’d have to do this all while lacking support or help from anyone except maybe his friends who are still very involved in the drug trade because his parents are shitty fucking people who weren’t prepared or willing to have a child that wasn’t “normal”. and it's not like this makes anything that he did good or that he didn't do anything wrong I'm not suggesting that he's a perfect person, but I don't think that what he did is uniquely bad in any way.
and even if I’m wrong and the movie is actually trying to get across that Jesse didn’t USE to have choices but NOW he does I think… the ending still wraps it up badly and it still communicates a bad message. like why are we led to believe that Jesse is going to make different choices from now on? not only does he still have no outside support or resources, but he has LESS options in regards to acquiring those things than he had at the beginning of Breaking Bad and a FUCKTON of new PTSD on top of that. like I think it’s unlikely that Jesse is going to get back into the criminal world but instead of me thinking that because his life circumstances have actually improved in the ways that they should’ve it’s because he’s been through so much horrible trauma in the past that he’ll “know better”. Jesse received trauma that we’re sorta meant to interpret as him learning from, punishment that he learned from, so that now anything genuinely miserable coming up in his life will simply seem better than what he’s already been through, again rather than actually having resources to make his rough patches in life better. El Camino still puts all of the pressure onto Jesse alone to have a better life. and I think that ultimately leaves us with an ending that is bleaker than it wants to admit
I don’t know how I could write El Camino to have the happy ending for Jesse that I both want and think he deserves, at least I’ve not been able to come up with anything that feels believable enough, so sadly I think that the best way to fix it is by changing the tone of the ending so that it does feel bleaker. maybe add in a little more focus on Jesse’s PTSD and that he doesn’t really know how to deal with it later in the movie as well, but still keep in everything that show’s Jesse’s kindness, like him feeding the spider Todd was keeping and the scene with the beetle that always brings the Undertale quote “despite everything it’s still you” to mind. if nothing else I’d hope that it’d make people think about how nothing about Jesse’s life circumstances have changed in a way that actually will allow him to thrive, and feel upset about it because he continues to persist in being a caring person in a world that never wanted him to be.

Wow, I can't believe I noticed this.. But I uncovered a horrible lynch mob a few days ago and werevampiwolf (person who sent you an ask just now) was part of it. The lynch mob was led by someone, a trans person, who posted ship hate in a tag, and then harassed a trans fic writer/rper who told them to tag it, and they picked on headcanons and stuff, at least one of which the harasser also shared with them (but never mentioned to the mob!!) and the target might have killed herself. The target also made some small mistakes but fixed them, but nobody cared and joined the mob including that werevampiwolf, their likes and comments are in the tags. The bully called them "cissy" and "crazy" and said they should die. You don't have to post this since it has a url but the post is in my pinned, the person targeted deserves to be remembered bc she was a real boon to the community and I think you should be aware this kind of thing happened :(
Ty for your answer to my other ask also.
Did... did you just come into my inbox and dump a bunch of drama and a possible suicide from a community that I'm not part of? Without asking if I want to have all that dumped on me without warning?
You understand that like... tens of thousands of people follow me and I have hundreds of thousands of notes a week, right? And that doing this to me without warning, even if I didn't have the history I have, isn't doing me a service?
Please, like, don't do this. At least ask. My eyes literally glazed over in self defense.

I finished this game. And in the end, its story included:
Time travel and time loops, worlds and people actually existing in a computer simulation, multiple variations of characters including literal clones, characters who are also partly other characters, body-jacking, different layers of reality, memory loss, existential angst, tangled relationships between characters, previously established information going out the window once later information is learned, villains who just won’t die, scientists with good intentions that go too far, a breed of enemy with a variety of forms, convoluted plot turns due to dreams and/or memories, slow afternoon scenes of characters just casually talking and eating food, characters not communicating information to each other when it could solve problems, characters dropping long-winded exposition dumps, characters being easily forgiven for heinous actions, weak romantic writing, the number 13 being important, detailed lore in written unlockable reports, elements that are blatantly derivative of other sources, terms that leaves you scratching your head in confusion, an evil old man that’s behind everything wrong, and a schmaltzy happy ending where everyone lives and every sacrifice made is reversed.
Holy shit, it’s literally all of Tetsuya Nomura’s Kingdom Hearts bullshit! All the stuff I hate!
.........So why did I enjoy this so goddamn much!?
Three reasons, all of which are crucial differences between it and Kingdom Hearts.
1. The most obvious first: it’s just one game. One game with one self-contained narrative. It’s not stretched out across multiple entries ad nauseum with no clear endgame plan in mind; it’s clear going in that while convoluted, this story is a puzzle that you can actually completely piece together. Everything will make some degree of logical sense by the time that you’re finished, and you don’t have to worry about anything being changed or backtracked in any following games. There’s even a menu placing all of the events in their proper order, the setting of each event and characters featured even being clarified, and it’s right next to the menu with the unlockable reports. The confusion does end, leaving you feeling satisfied.
2. The tone of the game is tailor-made for all of this. It’s a hard-edged sci-fi story with purely Japanese content, not something meant to be a fun fantasy adventure crossing Japanese and Western content together in a way that should balance each other out. Seeing so much of what I listed above in a Kingdom Hearts game bothers me because that’s not how the series started and ideally should be, whereas it feels totally natural for this kind of game.
3. Last but not least, the characters. Nomura made all of his characters service his bullshit and flattened them down to just being the things they make happen in the plot or what happens to them in the plot; having an interesting, engaging and fleshed-out personality fell by the wayside. 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim never forgets to make you actually care about its characters. Each one is distinct, with their own intricate backstories, unique personality quirks, and preferred way of doing things. You feel like they are human beings who are making the events of the narrative happen, rather than pieces on a board being moved around by the writer to suit his storytelling whims. All of their story modes have a different vibe to them as a result - you’ve got an identity crisis story, a Cute Girls Doing Cute Things shojou romance, a male and a female coming of age tale, a Madoka-themed Protagonist Journey to Villain, a bisexual awakening(!), a detective mystery, a Bourne Identity-style thriller, a Girl and her Alien Robot, a somber tale of personal loss, a Groundhog Day comedy, a haunting psychological tragedy, and a straight-laced scientific information gathering.
Going through all of these characters’ stories, coming to care about them, and then having to see them finally band together and defend the world from within their badass giant mech vehicles....that’s the true heart of this game; it’s where the greatest joy comes from. For all game players who think this sounds like a good time, I highly recommend this. Vanillaware hasn’t put out something this excellent since Odin Sphereand...uh, Odin Sphere’s remaster.
I’ll wrap this post up with the moment the game truly dug its hooks into me:

Social media pages represent you, so don't ever put a negative spin on them. Though injecting some personality is a good thing at times, you should avoid going overboard. A private promotion or deal should always be kept a private matter. You don't want to publish the fact that you are giving a special deal to a customer. One thing to avoid is posting the things you're doing to remedy a customer complaint and then receive more complaints because people want free things. Many firms provide reputation management today. You're going to have a lot of things to handle in your daily life with your business, but in this day and age there are a lot of things like social media and other Internet activities you should be looking out for. So, it's good to have a helping hand when it comes to these matters as well. Instead, admit the mistake and apologize sincerely. A lot of the time you will be forgiven for things, especially if you're offering other things to them to remedy what you did. It's important to follow-up with customers regularly after they make a purchase from you. A lot of times they won't detect any issues in just a few days or the customer is going to take their time using a product. Daily Devotionals for October 17, 2023 Proverbs: God's Wisdom the Day
Devotional Scripture:
Proverbs 26:15-16 (KJV): 15 The slothful hideth his hand in his bosom; it grieveth him to bring it again to his mouth. 16 The sluggard is wiser in his conceit than seven men that can render a reason. Proverbs 26:15-16 (AMP): 15 The slothful and self-indulgent buries his hand in his bosom; it distresses and wearies him to bring it again to his mouth. 16 The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes and conceit than seven men who can render a reason and answer discreetly.
Thought for the Day
Even more sinful than laziness is the sluggard's prideful attitude of being wise in his or her own eyes. I have seen much for many years, and during that time, many beggars would come around asking for money for food, gas, or a gift card. Since I have had a trusting, compassionate heart, it was difficult for me to believe that people would lie to me about their conditions. However, I learned early not to give these people money or a card, since some of them would later be seen down the road with a bottle of liquor which they had purchased with the money I had given them. After that, I made it a practice to send them to a restaurant or service station and have the owners serve them and bill us. By doing that, we truly helped the needy and avoided giving them money that would support a harmful habit, just as food stamps cannot buy alcohol and tobacco products today.
Although most of those people lied to me, what shocked me most about many of them was their pride. On more than one occasion, when I would try to share some wisdom to help them out of their poverty, they would become quite indignant. I came to realize that most did not want real help, but just a hand-out to continue a lifestyle that they were accustomed to; which included answering to no one and doing as they pleased. When I offered them a job or opportunity to help out in the community, they refused and went on their way thinking they were smart enough to avoid work and still get by.
Of course, people who were simply in bad circumstances also came to me. They were grateful for my help and willing to listen to my advice. They were unlike the irresponsible sluggards who took advantage of others and never attempted to change. Though cautious, I have always prayed for the sluggards and reached out to them in love, since God cares for them and desires to help them overcome their bad habits. Our prayer was that my witness to them would plant a seed in their hearts so that they might come to the Lord when they became weary of wasting their lives.
Through these experiences, I realized that people can be prideful when they have absolutely nothing to be proud of. Appearances can be deceiving. Pride and humility are attitudes of the heart. A poor person can be arrogant, just as a wealthy person can be humble. "...the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart" (1 Samuel 16:7).
Prayer Devotional for the Day
Dear heavenly Father, thank you for being a God of compassion. May we, as Your children, have Your compassionate heart also. Lord, give us wisdom as to how we should deal with those who are sluggards. Let us help them by sharing Your love with them; but Lord, may we be strong enough to say no to people who are manipulating us to use us for the wrong purposes. Give us Your discernment so that we know when people are lying to us, and the wisdom and love to respond properly. I ask this in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen. From: Steven P. 75th Anniversary of the foundation of the WFMH.
Tumblr media
On October 10th, we will be celebrating World Mental Health Day 2023 with the theme ‘Mental Health is a Universal Human Right’ chosen by a global vote open to the public, including World Federation for Mental Health (WFMH) members, stakeholders, and supporters.
This year’s World Mental Health Day celebration coincides with the 75th Anniversary of the foundation of the WFMH in 1948. At its foundation a range of recommendations were made, including that specialised agencies of the United Nations (UN) should do everything possible to co-ordinate their activities in the interest of developing adequate mental health programmes within each member nation; and that the World Health Organization (WHO) give adequate attention to mental health principles in their health programmes, drawing on international professional organisations for co-operation.
1948 was an important year for human rights because the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) was adopted on 10 December 1948 by the UN General Assembly with Article 1 thereof stating: ‘All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood.’
Tumblr media
Although the UDHR did not specifically mention mental health, and neither was it a treaty, by 1966, the International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) was adopted, Article 12 whereof stated: ‘The States Parties to the present Covenant recognize the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health.’
The United Nations Convention on Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD) was adopted in 2007 with the vision ‘to promote, protect and ensure the full and equal enjoyment of all human rights and fundamental freedoms by all persons with disabilities, and to promote respect for their inherent dignity’ and included people with long-term physical, mental, intellectual or sensory impairments.
Despite all efforts by the UN, WHO, WFMH, governments, institutions and other agencies, mental health discrimination, harmful stereotypes and stigma in the community, family, schools and the workplace still persist. The same prevents healthy relationships, social interactions and inclusive environments needed for the well-being of all members of society and presents barriers to the enjoyment of full well-being for all, especially those with mental health challenges.
Previous reports by the UN Human Rights office highlight that people with mental health conditions and those with psychosocial disabilities experience disproportionately higher rates of poor physical health and reduced life expectancy. Stigma is also a significant determinant of quality care and access to the full range of services required.
Investment and transformation in mental health is needed to help stop the widespread human rights violations that people with mental health conditions continue to experience worldwide.
This year’s theme enables us to re-double our efforts to ensure that everybody should receive quality mental health care and that the human rights and well-being of people with mental illness are respected in all parts of the world so that every person with a mental health difficulty has:
The right to be protected from known harms to mental health; a universal right which applies to the entire population, but especially the vulnerable including children, minorities and the displaced peoples.
The right to access quality and affordable care when a person is struggling with their mental health.
The right to freedom and dignity, including the right of choice.
The 2023 World Mental Health Day theme ‘Mental Health is a Universal Human Right’ provides us with an opportunity to re-kindle our efforts to make the world a better place.
We invite you to join this year’s World Mental Health Day campaign.

Reeve Foundation: Results of "Living with Paralysis & Caregiver National Survey"
Tumblr media
MedicalResearch.com Interview with:
Tumblr media
Regina Blye Regina Blye, Chief Program and Policy Officer Discusses the  Living with Paralysis & Caregiver National Survey Conducted by the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation MedicalResearch.com: How large is the population of Americans living with paralysis?  Response:  There is a significant population of Americans living with paralysis. To note, a 2013 study by the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation found that 1 in 50 people in the US are living with paralysis. This is approximately 5.4 million people. I, myself, have lived with a spinal cord injury (SCI) for over 35 years. While some progress has been made over the past few decades, there is still work to be done. In a new survey conducted by the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation called “Living with Paralysis & Caregiver National Survey,” we learned that a majority of Americans (69%) underestimate the prevalence of those living with paralysis in the U.S. - about two out of every 100 individuals. Given the notable size of the population, we must work together to educate and inform families, business leaders, advocates, policymakers and the general public to help improve the quality of life for those living with, or impacted by paralysis. The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation is dedicated to curing spinal cord injury by advancing innovative research and improving the quality of life for individuals and families impacted by paralysis. While we’ve been fortunate to make advancements with significant support from the community, we must all unite to accelerate comprehensive information, resources, referral services, and innovative research together. MedicalResearch.com: How accurately did the survey participants recognize the size of population affected, as well as the burden on family members and other caregivers? Response: We know that Americans care and want to help. According to the survey, one in three Americans said they know someone who is paralyzed* and most (79%) also believe that a family member providing long-term care for someone living with paralysis should receive compensation from the government. Furthermore, with regards to compensation, women are more likely to be concerned about the need for money/income support from the government versus men; and Gen Z is twice as likely than other generations (33% versus about 15%) to believe that the government can and should financially help. Americans who participated in this survey recognize the commitment and impact of caregiving. In fact, two-thirds of survey respondents who serve as caregivers to a family member living with a disability, and who regularly assist with daily living activities (a group comprising of 18% of all respondents) are unpaid. *The full prompt from the survey included: living with paralysis and using a wheelchair for mobility. MedicalResearch.com:  Has the increase in firearm violence, as well as improved survival from previously fatal events, increased the number of Americans living with paralysis? Similarly, has the number of stroke survivors, who live with paralysis, also increased? Response:  Gun violence is a topic that touches me closely as a gun violence survivor that resulted in my paralysis at the age of 10 years old. As you can imagine, my life changed drastically. I grew up dreaming of being a professional basketball player. Still, I had to pivot, which led me to become a radio D.J. after college graduation, where I used my voice to elevate the person I was and give people the opportunity to see someone with a disability doing things they didn’t expect. Being a black, disabled woman using a wheelchair, I now use my story and personal experience to advocate for others. There are over 71,000 victims of nonfatal gunshot injuries a year. Many of those wounded suffer from spinal cord injury and paralysis. A 2020 City of Philadelphia Public Health Report found that nearly 1 in 7 victims of gun violence in Philadelphia experience paralysis. We support advocacy efforts seeking better data collection to better understand the national prevalence of paralysis due to firearm violence. The Reeve Foundation is available to help survivors of nonfatal gun injuries in any way through the National Paralysis Resource Center (NPRC). We are here to assist survivors, or their caregivers impacted by these events. MedicalResearch.com:  What role should local or federal government agencies play in caring for Americans with paralysis, either at home with caregiver support or in a supported facility?
Tumblr media
Response:  The Reeve Foundation strongly believes that no one should be forced to choose between living at home and receiving the necessary services or remaining in poverty to continue receiving them. Therefore, we continue to work with the disability community to advocate for Home and Community-Based Services (HCBS) for Americans with paralysis.  The Reeve Foundation also supports many aspects of the 2022 National Strategy to Support Family Caregivers and will advocate for implementation of key state and federal initiatives to support family caregiving. As it relates to the survey findings, we learned that many Americans (65%) believe that some form of insurance (Medicare/Medicaid), or health/disability insurance would be their main source of funds to cover the cost of day-to-day living if they were to become paralyzed. This suggests that many are not aware of the financial realities of paralysis, including limitations of public and private insurers and disability benefits, as well as high lifetime costs of the condition. MedicalResearch.com:  What additional support, beyond what the ADA mandates, is important for Americans with paralysis, especially as it pertains to wheelchair use and travel accommodations? We consistently hear from the community about how difficult, perilous, and inconvenient air travel is for passengers with disabilities. For several years, the Foundation has been working with a coalition of disability organizations to advocate for additional improvements to air travel and is urging Congress to include certain key proposals in the Air Carrier Access Amendments Act of 2021 (ACAAA H.R. 1696) as they consider the 2023 FAA Reauthorization. The ACAAA would do several things to strengthen equitable access to air travel. The ACAAA would also ensure new airplanes are designed to accommodate the needs of people with disabilities by requiring airlines to meet defined accessibility standards. These standards will require safe and effective boarding and deplaning, visually accessible announcements, seating accommodations, lavatories, and better stowage options for assistive devices. As it relates to the survey findings, we found that nearly all Americans say that they’re familiar with the ADA (96%). Of those, most (74%) believe there is a need for additional support from the U.S. government for wheelchair users beyond the ADA. Many individuals living with paralysis also face extreme challenges with travel. When it comes to air travel, for example, 34% of adults believe that the greatest challenge for someone living with paralysis is the inability to use airplane restrooms. Imagine not being able to navigate the aisle to the restroom due to wheelchair inaccessibility. Further, most Americans (96%) do not recognize traveling on airplanes as one of the more difficult challenges in life for those living with paralysis, despite the increased media attention of frequent, costly damages to wheelchairs, dehumanizing experiences and even death. There is a great opportunity for us to advocate for basic rights, from policies for air and land travel, to support for paid family caregivers. 6) Is there anything else you would like to add? Accessible Healthcare for Persons with Paralysis and Mobility Disabilities The barriers to accessible healthcare for persons with paralysis and mobility disabilities begin with the logistical difficulties and increased expense of traveling to and from care facilities. Moreover, once an individual with disabilities arrives at the facility, they meet an entirely new set of physical barriers to accessibility, such as ramps, check in areas, treatment rooms, examination tables and weight scales, that are all too often unable to meet their unique accessibility needs. The Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation is dedicated to removing these barriers to access and creating accommodations for all types of persons with disability to use healthcare services and facilities. The Reeve Foundation’s mission is to improve the lives of those living with or caring for someone with paralysis. These individuals face many obstacles in their day-to-day lives and are often overlooked in crucial conversations surrounding diversity, equity, inclusion and research. The Reeve Foundation’s NPRC also provides free, comprehensive, national sources of informational support for people living with paralysis and their caregivers. The NPRC has assisted over 120,000 individuals and families since its launch in 2002. We encourage individuals to learn more by visiting ChristopherReeve.org. How to Narrow Down the Best Eye Specialist
Has it been a bit blurry to read your daily newspaper or watch videos online these days? Perhaps you have been experiencing some irritation of the eyes that cannot seem to be corrected with over-the-counter measures. Regardless if you are experiencing optical troubles or are simply in need of an annual eye exam, finding the right eye care specialist is important.
There are numerous great eye doctors in the world today but finding the one that meets your individual need can be tough. You might require a physician who offers advanced care options like surgery, paediatrics, or senior citizen eye care. The best thing you can do is research a handful of opticians or optometrists and settle for the practice that can provide you with the services you need.
Some great places to begin your search with include:
• Recommendations from your family doctor - Your medical doctor is a wonderful resource for connections within the medical community. Whether the eye care specialist is for yourself or your child, your doctor can provide you with a list of area practices that he or she personally endorses. You can be sure you will receive a referral that fits your needs because your general practitioner already knows your situation and what you require. Best Eye Hospital in Kota
• Recommendations from family members, close friends, and colleagues - Take a moment to think of everyone in your life who wears glasses. Clearly, these folks have paid a visit to the eye doctor. Pick their brains a bit and ask them whom they have chosen for their optical care. Ask questions as to why they made this choice and see if the practice they go to is accepting new patients.
• Professional outreach - Did you know that there are website you can visit that will help you find an appropriate eye doctor? Try your luck at ORBIS International or the International Council of Ophthalmology websites.
Interview Eye Care Professionals
If you are a business owner, you simply would not handpick a stranger off the street to hire at your company without interviewing them first, would you? Of course, you wouldn't. This same rule applies when looking for a health care professional. There are a few questions you should ask any eye care specialist before opting to utilise their services:
• How long are your wait times? This is very important information to know, especially if you are bringing young children to a visit or you need to get back to work. Ask the office staff how long the average wait time is and if emergency cases are expedited.
• How thorough are the exams? You do not want to feel as if the doctor is rushing your visit, especially when you have complex eye care needs. Get a feel for the doctor's bedside manner as you are asking him or her questions about their practice. Eye Hospital Kota
Ask yourself:
• Did the doctor take adequate time to answer your questions? If you felt hurried or rushed during the interview process, you should definitely move on to the next physician, as this is an indication as to how the doctor conducts their business.
• Did you feel comfortable and relaxed when speaking to the doctor? If you find that you are not comfortable during the interview process, chance are you won't feel comfortable during the eye exam. This means you'll be less likely to keep up with preventative check-ups, which can be bad for your health. Find a another doctor.
Remember, if the doctor you have chosen ends up not meeting your expectations; do not feel compelled to stay with this practise. Your eye health is important and the specialist you choose should make you feel confident about their ability to provide you with high quality eye care management.

Tumblr Revival
Tl;dr
Tumblr has a large interconnected community of artists and content creators, and should focus on its strengths and what it does right. Instead of trying to compete for space against Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter. Tumblr should focus on empowering its community and giving that community the tools to develop the site's unparalleled uniqueness.
Tumblr is the crossroads of the internet, with a monthly user traffic of 300 million it is the perfect space for artists, content creators, and small businesses to grow their following without having to fight for a seat at the table against companies with huge budgets.
Hi, I go by Nacho here on tumblr, and I'm sure as many of us on tumblr have noticed, the (hell)site is kinda going downhill. Tumblr was bought by Automattic in fall of 2019, and I am sure they have the best intentions to help tumblr stay afloat. However, I think it's time the community took a more deliberate approach to how tumblr is handled, and hopefully Automattic and @staff will hear us out. I think I have a solid solution to tumblrs money issues, that will help both the site and empower its online communities.
First and foremost, I am not involved with Tumblr or Automattic. I am just a simple blog trying to help out a place that I've been on since 2010, and I would hate to see it die here around 2023.
So, let's get to the root of the problem on tumblr right now. That being money, tumblr is currently costing more money that it produces, as we've seen with its 97% drop in value from 1.1 billion dollar sale to being sold at around 3 million dollars.
So the first thing that must be improved before anything else can be improved on tumblr is how much money they're bringing in a month. I don't think folks on tumblr hate monetization as much as we all collectively say we do, I think the issue is that most advertisers are completely disconnected from the groups they are trying to advertise to on here. Tumblr comprises roughly 65% millennials and 30% gen-z, the two generations that advertisers seem to have the hardest time advertising to for a myriad of reasons. The main one being that they don't fully understand what we want, and sometimes just don't listen to what we are saying.
Lets look at how tumblr makes its money, Tumblr has four main revenue sources,
Ads by sponsored posts
Display ads through video posts
Sponsored Day ads or banner ads
“Premium Themes”
I'll go into depth on all of these and how tumblr could make potential changes to improve their revenue anywhere from three to six months after it implements some or ideally all of these changes.
First tumblr ads and sponsored posts, these changes are going to be contingent on tumblr allowing its users to share, like, and comment on ads much like all other media sites currently allow. Or at least giving advertisers the ability to turn that on or off as a function.
The average tumblr post gets reblogged 14 times, that number increases significantly if the ad is engaging and actually caters to the communities wants and needs. My reasoning for giving users the ability to reblog ads is to increase user engagement while maintaining their current ad vetting process and all of the nonsensical ads that are run on tumblr 90% of the time.
The other reason for allowing tumblr users to share and comment on ads, or have it be an option for advertisers to turn on or off as they'd like, is that the appeal of tumblr is the ability to propagate and obsess over the most niche things (i.e OSHA.)
All the while allowing content that gets shared all over the internet bubble up to the top through the collective hand of the tumblr community. Along with this tumblr has no way for small users to share their own products or services, every single major site has a way for users to advertise their pages or products through the site.
Tumblr is a content machine that creates imagery and memes that get shared all the time across the internet, so the ability to share and curate its own ads is paramount to improving advertising and user engagement on tumblr.
My proposal here is for tumblr to expand its advertising capabilities to all users, while charging a flat rate fee to advertise on tumblr, with additional charges for popular tags or trending tags. Tumblr currently has no self service advertising system much like Facebook does for example. Where facebook charges a daily rate on cost-per-click(CPC) or cost-per-thousand(CPM)
Charging a flat rate fee at a rate of a day, week, month, or quarterly basis with variances in prices based on the lease term and what the advertisers would want to have their ads show up on certain tags. This would open up the doors for small businesses that don't want to advertise on places like facebook, twitter, or google with their complicated CPM and CPC models. Also bringing in more small locally owned businesses with the added value of less competition for ad space on tumblr.
This would also take some of the weight from tumblrs own advertising staff from having to explain a convoluted system to potential advertisers. Creating a simplified model with the the advent of tumblrs own infrastructure able to get a single post to a large variety of users. Where the current ad model uses a “shotgun” method to hit as many people as possible, the tumblr model could encourage advertisers to curate a more personalized and intimate experience that tumblr users would love.
Why not just advertise elsewhere? Tumblr still in fact gets over 300 million views a month as of June 2021 (Statosta), and the added benefit for users to be able to like, share, and interact with ads would allow ads that the community enjoys to be talked about more. Giving advertisers more honest feedback about their ads while increasing their SEO’s.
Also small businesses that can't compete with the vetting processes that are used on other sites, would have a better chance of developing their business and increasing their clientele on tumblr whose core demographics are approximately 60% millennial and 35% gen-z. This core demographic does in fact care about being able to shop at local stores, or even a store across the US that is trying to drum up its own online sales.
These ads could be placed inline on the tumblr dash while moving other sponsored ads to the right of the site on desktop, but making them alternate on mobile between user ads and sponsored ads.
Second, the display ads should be changed to allow tumblr users to share and further interact with ads to generate more user engagement, incentivizing more businesses and companies to build their brand status on tumblr. Tumblr has a good model for creating short diaries or daily vlogs for companies that wish to show off their products on social media. This includes smaller businesses and vlogers that want to post videos or tutorials of themselves on their blog.
Tumblr is a good site for user engagement with a pool of creative potential for anyone wanting to gauge the desire for a particular subject or piece of media, maybe even an upcoming show. Having the ability to share and comment on sponsored ads would also help advertisers by allowing them to get more bang for their buck with a considerable uptick on how users engage with that content.
Third, tumblrs sponsor day ads and banner ads are inexpensive and should be highlighted as a selling point over their competitors. Tumblr 24-hour banner ads are considerably more affordable for businesses when compared to places like twitter with their 200k price point. For the same amount of money on tumblr a business could have their company at the top of the dashboard or app for 8 whole days. Much longer and much better than the competition.
Keeping this price fixed, with a change in the price CPC is still a much more lucrative and attractive selling point than any of the competition on the internet today. I know this might not be exactly what tumblr wants to hear when it is hemorrhaging money right now, but let's look at the cost for these 24 hour daily ads and banner ads. If tumblr hypes up the price point on these ads they could see a significant rise in advertisers considering the lack of competition on tumblr and past success stories of companies who did advertise on tumblr.
At the same time larger advertisers should be encouraged to make engaging ads and blogs on tumblr that will make people want to actually go to their blogs, that then link to an external site or page. Not ads that instantly try to force you to go to some other site, by rewarding or offering special discounts for people who find a special code or something off of the actual blog. Or even for giving the same code to everyone who reblogs a certain post made by the advertiser.
Seems too good to be true? Look at “Asos” back in 2015 when they held a shirt design competition on their tumblr blog. Where they had 900 submissions, four of which were picked, and were sold out of the user generated shirts in 10 hours.
This is not the only case however, but FX ran their own campaign for the show “Man Seeking Woman” where they saw a 2.8% increase in user engagement, 86% increase in their tumblr followers, and they actually saved money through advertising on tumblr.
All this leads me to believe that tumblr actually was and continues to be the best place for brands, small businesses, and artists to develop themselves through genuine user engagement.
Finally, the “premium themes” that are available on tumblr that allow for unparalleled customizations that you hardly find elsewhere on the internet anymore. Tumblrs ability to take a variety of media sources, as well as having an unparalleled level of customization, user interconnectivity, and a vibrant artistic scene shows that it is ripe with potential.
Tumblr could still use its post+ feature, but in the same way that Discord uses its subscription service. For cosmetic changes that can be added modularly to the site or individual blogs for an additional monthly fee. In conjunction with partnering with community artists to bring small cosmetic additions to individual blogs, while paying the content creator and tumblr taking a small portion of the profits over a certain amount.
To be completely honest this is probably the hardest portion of this entire pitch to make changes to in a shorter period of time, considering all the testing and “under the hood” changes that must be made. However, I think that implementing this as well as the other changes I have proposed will bring back more foot traffic to tumblr as well as increase its revenue and profitability.
In closing, I am simply working with whatever information I was able to find online and a good amount of time invested on my part to do this. I think tumblr has a ton of potential still to return as a force for good for the communities that exist and want a change from what the internet has become. Time and time again when any company or public entity dies it was because it did not change and refused to adapt and innovate, oftentimes not at the hands of the people working everyday to keep the site running. Instead at the hands of people who dont see the value in what has fallen in their laps.
If you agree and think this is something that can be done, please reblog this post and follow me for more updates. If I don't hear back or this does not gain any traction by the end of the year, then tumblr can go to its inevitable end. I will be here sinking with the ship.

analyzing every gojohime moment in the manga 😈
this series will probably have more than one part because tumblr only lets me upload ten images per post </3
warning: there are disgustingly long paragraphs in here and delusions
Tumblr media
chapter 32
utahime’s first introduction!  akutami lets us know right off the bat that she thinks gojo is an idiot (so true).
Tumblr media
chapter 32
i love the contrast between miwa and utahime’s reaction to gojo’s appearance.
Tumblr media
chapter 33
NAH BC TELL ME WHY HE WENT OUT OF HIS WAY TO NOT GET HER ONE LMAOOOO!!  when he traveled overseas to meet with yuta, he picked up the tribal protection charms and thought to himself, “let’s get enough for the kyoto students as a gift since i am such a great and caring teacher, after all.  mmm, i should skip utahime to make her mad~”  this guy puts way too much effort into getting on her nerves.  his mind = utahime brainrot
Tumblr media
chapter 33
she’s laughing at him here because he’s getting disciplined for being a lil shit.  i wonder...what would he say if he saw her laughing at him like that?
Tumblr media
chapter 33
this interaction between them is a little strange don’t you think?   i feel like over the years he’s learned how to pick up her mood based on the way she’s acting towards him.  you’re probably thinking, “well any person can figure out how a person’s feeling based on the way they’re talking or acting.”  yes, that’s absolutely true, but it’s kind of different with this.  she’s acting normal.  utahime has a rather indifferent expression on her face and what she says is spoken in a calm tone, but gojo still asks her if she’s mad at him.  it’s likely that he knows her well enough to be able to notice these subtle things.  even if she wasn’t actually mad at him, he was being considerate for a split second, then he went and said, “of course.  i didn’t do anything wrong and all.”  what a guy LOLOL.  to me, this implies that maybe he made her genuinely angry in the past to the point where he realized that he went too far, and thus decided to be more careful of her feelings.  she has definitely gotten annoyed at him so many times after that so whenever she seems angry, he probably asks himself if he took it too far.  i’m curious to see if he can pick up if she’s upset with something that’s not involving him.  would he console her?  how does gojo satoru console someone?
despite him always annoying her, she’s still courteous and brings him a cup of tea during their talk.  she didn’t have to go out of her way to get tea for him but she did.  that’s the kind of person utahime is.  a kind and caring woman who would never put her students in danger.  in the anime they were sitting far away and not facing each other like they’re doing in the manga.  she also has her own tea cup.  i think that little panel of her placing the cup down on the table and him picking it up to take a sip is a nice little detail.  it just proves that her hating him most of the time isn’t actually pure hatred but annoyance because of his shenanigans and teasing.
Tumblr media
chapter 33
i touched upon this a little bit in my previous post, but i wish to go more in depth about this panel.  first of all, he ends the sentence with her name twice.  two times too many, mr. gojo.  i like how they can be serious with each other too LOL.  i wish we got to see them talk about the traitors because they did figure it out together after all.  does it always end in bickering?  can they interact with each other like adults all the way through?  somehow, i feel like that’s not possible when it comes to these two.  furthermore, notice how gojo confides in utahime about his suspicions.  from what we know, she is the first person he brought it up to.  i mean, i guess he has to start investigating the schools and would need extra assistance to save time, but he could have done it himself if he really wanted to.  by deciding to ask for her help we know that he thinks she’s trustworthy, smart, and strong enough to face whatever considerable risks this task may entail.
i didn’t point this out in my other posts but see how he makes a hand sign in the last panel when she throws the cup at him?  gojo is manually activating his infinity.  why though?  about a year after the whole star plasma vessel incident happened, gojo develops the ability to keep his infinity up at all times by using the reversed curse technique to consistently heal himself to prevent exhaustion.  this means that it really makes no difference whether he leaves it on or off.  there are a few times where we can witness someone actually touching gojo.  for example, yuuji giving him a hug.  did he turn his infinity off, or was it able to deduce that yuuji was not a threat?  the erasers and pencils shoko and geto threw at him during his demonstration of his new ability aren’t dangerous normally, but is it the speed that makes them dangerous?  even if it did hit him, it wouldn’t hurt.  how does the infinity know when to allow an incoming object to touch gojo?  i believe it is up to gojo himself to let things touch him; his infinity restricts anything and anyone.  some people say it could just be the fact that water is not dangerous to him, so therefore, he has to manually put his infinity up.  i thought this was a reasonable explanation as to why he put up the hand sign when the tea was thrown at him, but then i realized that it couldn’t be.  remember the second opening?  it’s raining and everyone is carrying an umbrella, then it pans to gojo with a bouquet in his hand and rain drops slipping off his infinity.  if he DID manually put his infinity up to prevent getting soaked then that implies that he chose to turn his infinity off.  you can argue and say that jujutsu high is a safe place with students so there’s no need to have his infinity there, but do you remember when he stepped on the ants in front of gakuganji and yaga?  the ants were perfectly fine after which insinuates that his infinity prevented his shoes from crushing the ants.  he most likely had his infinity on during the baseball game even though he was in a safe environment.  how does this long tangent relate back to utahime?  well, it simply indicates that gojo trusts utahime so much to the point where he can be vulnerable around her.  turning off his infinity symbolizes completely letting down his guard  in a way.
how about what happens next?  utahime throws the tea at him, he turns on his infinity to deflect it, and he responds with, “scary!  hysteric women aren’t popular, you know!”  why would he even say that LMAO??  utahime doesn’t even try to deny what he said either.  she just hits him with the good old, “i am your senpai!”  could it be that he’s trying to poke fun of her relationship status?  maybe, maybe not.  doesn’t he like people a lil crazy?  he did say that all jujutsu sorcerers have to be a little crazy because they’re willing to put themselves in danger constantly.
Tumblr media
chapter 0 p.1
i wonder who he’s thinking of when he said that.  could it be utahime?  it seems like he’s reminiscing or thinking about someone.  he wears an amused expression on his face as he laughs - almost like he’s seen his fair share of how scary women can get :>>
Tumblr media
chapter 34
the pattern behind gojo and utahime is called yagasuri “fletching,” a traditional japanese design.  this design is inspired by arrow fletching.  it's a lucky charm for weddings and other celebrations since it's based on the Japanese belief that an arrow shot once never comes back.  brides were given kimonos with this pattern for good luck during the edo era (1603–1868) to ensure they would not have to return to their original family home.  this pattern can have numerous meanings such as steadfastness or determination to achieve a goal, or a wish for the happiness of the bride.  there is a belief that a bow and arrow represent the fight against evil.  honestly, this meaning fits the narrative of the story.  utahime and gojo are unearthing the traitors that are feeding intel to the curse users and cursed spirits.  they are in the middle while the kyoto students surround them, which could mean that it’s their job as adults to protect these children from the grasps of evil slowly making itself more prominent.  do you also notice that the arrows are pointed toward utahime from gojo?  from all the images i’ve seen, the arrows are usually pointed downward.  what could this mean?  is gojo trying to protect her (in the future (?)) or does he have a big fat crush smh...
i think it’s a good time to mention utahime’s clothing.  she’s wearing miko attire.  miko are shrine maidens who were once thought to be shamans (you connecting the dots?).  in their service to shrines, miko used to perform spirit possession and takusen (in which the possessed person acts as a "medium" (yorimashi) to communicate the divine will or message of that kami (god) or spirit; also included in the category of takusen is "dream revelation" (mukoku), in which a kami appears in a dream to communicate its will).  this was back in the old days, of course.  to become a miko back then (shaman), one needed to have potential.  neurosis, hallucinations, odd behavior, and hysteria (HYSTERIA HELLO???) are some of the signs that a person is being called to shamanism.  when a miko is communicating with a kami (god) or spirit by acting as a medium, she is in a trance-like state, and so she must learn techniques to control herself when this happens.  chanting and dancing were used to accomplish this, so the girl was taught melodies and intonations that were used in songs, prayers, and magical formulas.  all of this could give us insight about utahime’s technique and explains why she’s good at singing :)  maybe she can’t control herself when she uses her technique which is why she isn’t shown using it because it should be used for dire situations.  i imagine being possessed by a spirit or god must consume a lot of cursed energy.  it makes sense that utahime and gakuganji wear traditional clothing.  they’re the staff of jujutsu high’s kyoto branch.  in chapter 0, kyoto is known as the sacred land of jujutsu.  it’s more traditional compared to tokyo.  if you want to learn more about miko, you should check out the wikipedia page!

chapter 34
i swear he tries to annoy her every chance he gets.  i bet he sets a goal for himself to see how many times utahime lectures him about respecting his seniors every time he’s within the same vicinity as her.  at least he called her utahime-sensei!!!
Tumblr media
chapter 40
this isn’t even a gojohime moment tbh...i just wanted to share a pic of them sitting next to each other HEHE.  why are they sitting next to each other anyway?  it’s not like they have assigned seating.
