Finally showing my little sister Torchwood because I think she's old enough now and when we reached Kiss Kiss Bang Bang she was like "So, captain Hart is like Jack's Master". I was speechless. She said that when they upgrade you to main character of your own show you need your own toxic space ex, so I asked who's Sarah Jane's and she immediately said "The Doctor".

David Tennant and Elisabeth Sladen - Photoshoot for The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith
Excerpt from DWM #440 - David Tennant on Elisabeth Sladen:
"There was something magical about Lis, something that she had that you can't really bottle. [...] Lis brought this extraordinary kind of febrile, warm, tender, emotional sort of joy to the part. That was Lis."
"After all those years, Sarah Jane lived again, and breathed again, and was, if anything, bigger than she had been back in the day... what an extraordinary achievement. Looking back on it now, it probably doesn't seem as massive a gamble as it was, but I remember, at the time, people going, 'This is quite an odd thing to do, to bring back a character from a 1970s television programme, and then give her her own show, and expect everyone to fall in love with her.' Russell knew that it would work. He had absolute belief, and of course he was right, because he understood how great Lis was, how special she was, and that that hadn't been appreciated. There was a lot of potential there. The fact that she came back as the same character... Lis will always be remembered for that."

sarah jane spends the majority of her adult life believing her parents abandoned her as a baby leaving her alone in a pram to be adopted by her auntie but it turns out in the end that she was the one who caused the events that led all of that to happen and essentially dropped her baby self off on the doorstep of a new life. something to think about regarding ruby sunday and figures under a hooded black cape. im on to you rtd. the trickster legit sounds like a member of the pantheon. maybe he’s running the tv show

It'll never not amaze me the depths and vast expansive-ness of Doctor Who spin-off content. Can any other fandom or show truly say that they have a 'universe' in the same way that Doctor Who does? You have decades of audio dramas, licensed, partially licensed, and unlicensed. Books about the main character, books about the main characters friends, books about timelines that never were or might have been! Movies with villains from the show and promotional shorts that occupy a secret third special place between plain fun and actual canon. Is all of it canon? Is none of it canon besides the show? Are only the bits we like canon? YOU decide, because you have decades and mountains and worlds to choose from.
Not to mention that this all gives fans the easiest in to make fan-content, fan doctors, etc and they do, hundreds of them! They have been for decades!
The Whoniverse is ever expanding, vast in a way that few can truly grasp onto, and you'll never be done discovering it. I'll never not be in awe of it.
