I'm not asking for "reaction ask" - I just want to hear your thoughts. I mean - human are still humans, but now they have POWERS, and sometimes quite destructive. Plus not all human now look like "textbook definition".

That’s a very interesting question! I gave it some thought and I think that the world of BHNA and the world in which humanity got pretty much wiped out by demon swarms are not congruent realities.

I imagine that if 80% of human society consisted of superpowered individuals, those gifted with Quirks would not go down that easily. I also cannot imagine pro heroes sitting on their hands in a situation like that - not because they’re all such noble people (they’re most certainly only people), but because of their damn pride (lookin’ at you, Endeavor.)

Heck, I bet even all the villains who aren’t completely off their rocker would join this fight, because the end of the world as we know it means the end to their villainy too, and where’s the gain in that?

But let’s say that it is possible to merge those two worlds.

There still would be a lot of deaths, but instead of near-total genocide, we’d have a proper three-way war. And the Four would be totally on board with this.

XB2001 Assignment 3 Production

For my Game Development Assignment 3 project, I decided to go for the mountain theme and create a game called Shapism, a game about different shapes being prejudice to one another until one of them takes over. The players then have to liberate the other shapes from the hands of the Cubes (overthrowers).

Level update: Day one

This is a screenshot from the end of the first day. I modeled the platform in Maya and added it into the game. This proved important for the overall aesthetic for the game.

Eventually I added a lot of platforms to add more of a community for the platforms. This creates a more living and breathing world for the players to explore and feel involved in. 

Over the production

Over the production time I learned a lot of new skills and managed to implement a lot of different mechanics. All of the assets are also of my creation, with the only thing in the game now being created by me being the audio sounds, which came from a mix of SoundBible, FreeSound and Incompetech. 

I wanted the game to have clear goals and an impactful narrative which the players would have to explore to find. In order to do this, I set notes to be placed around the islands for the player to find whilst adventuring through the unique island layouts and locations. 

With the notes in place, I set up a code to set a widget to appear upon the player overlapping it. I set these notes in places the player would most likely explore voluntarily, e.g. huts and by campfires. 

In order for the objectives to be clear, I decided to set it so the current objective was always displayed in the top right corner of the screen. When the player completed the objective, it would turn green to provide feedback to the player. 

I made a number of design decisions whilst creating this game. The first design decision which I made was that players could visit every island. In the pre production, the players were only supposed to enter 2. I decided that this was not going to be enough to provide the 5 minute game play expectation, so changed it so that players had to visit them all. This worked out well in the end as it provided a mix of upbeat and relaxing game play. This allows the game to start dramatic, calm down slightly then build up to the climax for a more efficient ending. 

I decided I wanted the player to choose how the game ends based on what they had read over the course of the game. A lot of games, such as Far Cry 4, create dynamic main antagonists which players want to side with and do not give them the option. As the player is half cube and half cone, both choices would impact them, due to this I wanted it to be to the players discretion.

When I was first starting the project, I knew I wanted it to be set in the mountains, however, did not want it to be generic, as I wanted the characters to be shapes for the act of shapist discrimination to occur. As the characters are fairly unique, I also wanted the environments to be unique. I also wanted to show off my level design skills, making each platform, which at the base are very similar, appear different and new to the player when they reach them, as can be seen in the difference of the 2 islands below.
