My amazing encounter

This morning, I went to my Story Club and all of us as usual started discussing current topics of the week. When we read our newspaper, The Shepherd of Readersburg, the first page had a story about Section 377. So now, being gay, transgender, lesbian or even bisexual is not a crime .

Wow...!!!! That's great!

So after reading this cover story, my own real cool experience from a couple of years ago, came back to me.

Two year ago, I went on a school trip to Gujarat with my friends. There were about 100-150 students. We started our journey on Christmas night. We were super excited to celebrate our Christmas night with friends and that too in a train. It was around 1o'clock. There were some transgender people sitting in front of us.

Everything was going smooth. Suddenly, two villagers came and started fidgeting with our stuff. Our teacher said to them,"Excuse me, what are you doing?" They replied," Ma’am, this is our stuff." We asked them to leave.

Suddenly, the transgender people woke up and asked them,"Hey! Why are you here?" They said, "Listen, this is our stuff.” Now the transgender people said, "Coming here and fidgeting with other people’s stuff is not right. Please go back or we will call the police."

We were always taught to be scared of transgender people. But that Christmas night, I saw a completely different picture and I loved it!!

and what? look who’s one today! 💕 So ...our Shepherd turns one... It was a Sunday, a day exactly like this one last year ...not so rainy, a little sunny... and someone came to this world to make it much brighter ...and a year later, the world is definitely shining a little more brightly ... every now and then, the air fills with the ‘girls outshine boys’ melody, talk of school results, sports or whatever. And we had no idea the reality, the #change was inching closer home until it did! So as it stands, the very first #subscriber and now the 1,000th subscriber of our #children’s and #teenagers’ #weekly @theshepherdofreadersburg are both girls 🤷🏻‍♀️... Oh boy! Nitya and Ria, respectively. And not that we had planned it that way! Well, obviously! A year later, our readers love our newspaper

here’s what a few of our very first sheep to join the Shepherd of Readersburg’s esteemed herd had been saying about our Shepherd for the past few months. Karnataka elections: Wanted: Someone to pick faults

...The elections in Karnataka could take us closer to some more emboldening of an already raging party (if BJP were to win and form government). We are already somewhere closer to a monopolistic structure. It would be good in the long run if the Congress pulls up its socks and positions itself as an efficient opposition. The questioning of the government's functioning and the debates that follow should be intelligent and smart. India's problem is that it has never had a good opposition, at least not recently. Even when UPA-II was crumbling under its own pressure in 2011-2012, the now- ruling BJP came across as absent as opposition. It was the anti-corruption campaign of Anna Hazare followed by the protests in the aftermath of the Nirbhaya gang rape which led to the downfall of the UPA-II government and made space for the BJP/NDA to take over through an astounding victory. A strong opposition ensures a healthy political environment in a country which in turn leads to...

Comic strip at Story Club

This is what has come out of our first organised Story Club at Arya Prathmik Vidyalaya, Napier Town, Jabalpur. Our little storytellers here learnt how to make comics during this session and Kamini (in photo) made these comic strips in one stroke on the blackboard in her classroom. Kamini is a student of class 4 of this school. Our Story Clubs at Arya Prathmik Vidyalaya, Napier Town, Jabalpur, and the publishing, in this newspaper, of stories created by students of this school, is being initiated under our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

Storeroom

Once, I was sleeping in my room. In front of my room was the storeroom. One evening I thought, ‘it’s been a long time since I saw all the old things in the house. Let me peep in there.’ I did so and guess what I saw.

Thousands and thousands of mice and cobwebs. I was walking in there when suddenly I tripped over something. Guess what it was? My old toys, books and other things. Amongst these toys, I saw box.
