So, I got insulted twice yesterday... don’t really want to say by who or from where because I’m not one to start drama but I just need to vent so bare with me, guys...

First insult was about my exercising. Okay, I’ve always had weight issues my entire life. I’ve gone from skinny to chunky to skinny to chunky. That, plus pregnancy, has cause stretch marks on me and my stomach’s skin is stretched. That’s the reality for a lot of mothers, their bodies almost never bounce back without a ton of hard work and cosmetic surgery (the last one is purely optional). And yes, having weight issues before having my son didn’t help matters. BUT, to sit there and tell me that my exercising is pointless because I’ll never have a ‘sexy body’ or have ‘sex appeal’ is rude and heartless. I was working out before but I didn’t really have my head in the game. After being told early last year that I have high blood pressure, I made it my mission to better my health and self worth. Heart disease and heart attacks are a high risk on both sides of my family. I’ve had more family members die from cardiac arrest than cancer. One of the things that killed my father in 2008 was heart disease. Forgive me if you can’t see that I’m trying to prevent me following in their footsteps. I actually want to be around for my son and family/friends. Moral of this rant is don’t judge a person for their intentions. Not every person is working out because they want to be sexy like all the others. Some are working out and losing weight so that they can have a future.

Second rant... and this one has been a pretty common argument I’ve seen going around. Same person asked me why didn’t I wear one of those shaping girdles right after I had my son and I told them that it wasn’t that I didn’t want to but I couldn’t because I had had a cesarean section. You can’t wear those while the scar is healing. They then preceded to say ‘Oh... you took the easy way out, then. Technically, that doesn’t make you an actual mother.” Um..... okay. One, I had complications when I went into my third trimester. I had pre-eclampsia (guess what that is??? A precursor to blood pressure issues!!!) and was pre-diabetic. I was on bed rest for the rest of my pregnancy. I had to go to the doctor two days a week, getting my blood drawn on a regular basis. And even though Henry was due on the 30th of November, the dr was insistent on me being induced a couple weeks before. So that’s what we tried to do. I went in on the 16th and refused to give up on being induced. I never wanted a c-section! As per my wishes, they continued trying to induce me for THREE days! Even the nurses were shocked by my resolve, telling me that I was the most patient mother to be that they had ever seen. Most mothers apparently opted for c-sections after only a couple of hours. On the third day, the dr told me that my blood pressure was down but my liver enzymes were incredibly high. He was very insistent on a c-section after that. Even my husband, who had supported my opinions up to that point, started telling me that a c-section would probably be the safer way to have our son. So that’s what happened. I had a painic attack and was crying the whole time as they prepped me and set me up for the procedure. They even allowed my husband into the room as they were numbing me I was freaking out so bad (which is something that’s normally not allowed). So, no, I didn’t take the easy way out to have my son. Health wise, I didn’t have a choice! It was either have the c-section in order for both of us to be healthy afterwards or risk either hurting myself and Henry by waiting. Guess which option I choose???

This person also preceded to tell me how being a fan of Seán and Mark’s at the age of 31 was immature and that I needed to stop acting like a child and grow up... but I’m not going to go into that right now. They had seen my PMA tattoo and said that was the most idiotic (not the actual word they used) thing I could of done. They then preceded to belittle me for believing that they actually care, saying that famous people never care about your well being and that you’re stupid to even believe that they do... sorry, I started ranting... but I really don’t want to get into this part right now. This is where the fight escalated, things were said and I was fighting back tears the rest of the day. I almost deleted all my social media apps and my YouTube app because of this. I almost deleted my pics from the HDWGH show in Houston, it was that bad.

I had lost my PMA for a while but I got it back this morning. Needless to say, I’ve completely blocked this person out of my life. My late teens/my 20’s were not the worst (minus 2008... that year can go jump off a bridge), but they were not the best. Yes, I met my husband, we got married in 2013 and then I had Henry in 2015, but I wasn’t in the best mental state. I made it a huge goal to myself to make my 30’s the best years of my life and Seán was the one who inspired me to move ahead with my resolve with his New Years video of 2017. I was literally crying with him because that’s how I had felt for the majority of my life and it hurts me to see anybody hurting the same way I have. When he said that he was going to kick 2018’s ass with PMA, I made that my top New Years resolution. On his New Years video for 2018, I was in tears again but because he looked so happy. I was genuinely proud of him! I had made a lot of progress, too! I was exercising and dieting, which brought my blood pressure down. For the whole year of 2018, I lost 30lbs. I was slowly improving in living with my depression/anxiety. I was more happy, more motivated.... I started up writing again and have been contemplating starting a YouTube channel (which would be a HUGE challenge for my confidence). So to have one person bring me back down to how I was feeling before my resolve is toxic. And I don’t need negative toxicity in my life. I want to be happy and healthy for my friends. I want to be happy and healthy for my family. I’m going to prove that just because I’m 31 with mental health issues and health issues, that I’m not a lost cause. I am important! I matter! And I have it within me to turn it around! If Seán can do it (an ADD, hyperactive man who is three years younger than me and has anxiety issues as well) and turn himself into a better version as well as an advocate and a voice for mental health awareness, then I (a 31 year old ADHD woman from Texas who suffers from depression and anxiety as well as having an constant battle with being an extrovert and introvert) can, too! So to that person, I say have a nice life and I truly hope that you are able to find some form of happiness in your life so you don’t have to feel like you have to belittle those who are actually trying to better themselves. You are loved and you do matter, even if I’m not going to associate with you anymore.

Sorry for the long, serious rant. I needed to vent and felt comfortable writing here on my blog. Back to normal business, now.

Social media is toxic!

My fellow readers,

I decided to delete my Twitter and Instagram. Let me just preface this by saying my only intention for joining any platform, all the way back to Myspace, was to market myself. As a heart patient whose undergone five heart surgeries by age 10, I reached out to meet and communicate with other heart patients to compare notes and hear stories of growing up with something unique. For those of you in the dark, 1 In 100 babies a day are born with some form of Congenital Heart Defect. The psychological stress that one has to endure, constantly worrying about their health, let alone the heart, the most important organ in the body, can get exhausting. 

Despite my heart condition, I’ve had amazing experiences. My family is a Marine family. My father served for 25 years until I turned 18. Swimming with sea turtles is by far my favorite childhood memory. Climbing two volcanoes, meeting a Holocaust survivor in college, acting in plays before I was a pre-teen, wasn’t all bad either. I did all that without social media, and I enjoyed every minute. Never caring to post my so called perfect life for the world to see. But as the world evolves we humans do as well. So I got sucked into the digital scene. 

I never cared for politics. It wasn’t long after Trump won in 2016 that the vitriol came his way and anyone who supported him. He was a man in the public arena for decades and no one seemed to have a problem, including the Democrats. But 24 hours after announcing his candidacy, the media began assassinating his character, trying to convince Americans he was a particular type of person. 

Hearing the negative narrative of him for four years, most of it BS, caused mental health challenges for me. I couldn’t partake in the constant brutal slaying and stay on top on every new story.

A quote on a Ted Talk crystalized it for me. Bailey Parnell said, “In social media, we are the product.” Why do we teach ourselves and children to be independent, intelligent, ignore negative comments from bullies, and form their own identities, not allowing others to dictate who we are, and yet the opposite is true for social media? We post 37 pics of the same thing before posting the “perfect” one and then seek validation in a like, a nice comment, and a group who thinks like us? If we don’t, our self-esteem is fractured. I’ve come to see it’s all too time consuming and co-dependent. We are feeding a monster. A toxic relationship which is hard to break away from. 

The initial reason I joined social media was to share myself as a heart patient and market my debut collection of poetry, “If My Heart Could Talk and Other Poems”. This is not a PSA convincing you to delete your accounts, I just want you to ask what meaning social media gives you? Can you enjoy a moment in life with your eyes and not through the lens of a camera? Choose to be productive. Look up, not waste time with your head down. This world is waiting for you to enjoy its beauty 100%.

I am a 19 year old male university student in Ontario Canada. I live at home in the summer and only one hour from home during the school year for my studies. I would like to purchase my own car for everyday driving. However, I know that I would not be able to afford the ridiculous insurance there is for a male driver that is under 25 and listed as the primary driver. I have heard of ways to get around this, such as getting listed as a secondary driver and having my dad as the primary driver and just me as a temporary driver. Doing this is kind of lying, as I would be having the car all the time in the school year and then bring it home with me when I work at home. I don't think it would matter though, I doubt it is risky that if I did need a claim they would investigate how much I had the car... But what my dad seems to think is that he can only have a certain amount of cars listed as him as primary. My mom and dad live together and together own a 1994 Intrepid, 2003 Cadillac CTS and a 1988 Corvette (that is insured for only 5 months a year, stored in the winter). I am only insured as a temporary driver on the Intrepid as it is too expensive for anything else. I also have a 21 year old sister who is in the same situation (lives at home for 4 months a year) but she has just bought her own car and is her own primary driver. So I don't think that should affect me at all, it is cheap enough for a female to get primary insurance at this age. So now I want to buy a sports car. I am 100% sure I want to buy a car that is not common, its just something I am stubborn about and so I know that insurance will be more this way. Specifically I was looking at an Audi tt, BMW 300 series, Mitsubishi Eclipse or a Mustang... I also found a great deal on a '99 Porsche Boxster that a seller has that is way underpriced and I'd love to buy it (first choice). My question is, can I claim that my dad is really the owner of the Porsche (or other car) and say that I am a temporary driver, and then have me drive it all the time and take it back and forth to school, etc, knowing my parents together already have 2 vehicles and 1 summer vehicle. I would take myself off of the temporary insurance on the Intrepid. My dad seems to think that an insurance company will not allow them to be primary drivers on 3 vehicles and 1 summer vehicle while having dependant children... But what if I did the insurance quotes online and got approved? I already did get quotes before, and I don't think I ran into any problems. But I want to be covered and in case I did need to make a claim, this method won't come back to bite me in the butt. What is anyone's take on this? Like I said, I cannot afford to pay the insurance on the car as a primary driver at this point, but paying for the car itself won't be a problem. Well I go back up there a couple of days later to make my payment. Mind you, I'm still well w/in the grace period. The computer would not take my payment. The agent made a call, then spoke to someone, & then informed me my insurance was dropped for lack of payment. I was like whoa I was told I had a full week grace period She said to me Well, when you called you didn't inform us that you had your insurance drafted from your debit card. I was like A) Y'all didn't ask when I called & B) How in the world would I know to tell you that? Especially since y'all never asked. They basically said Oh well. She did make it clear that if I had not had auto drafting that the grace period would still stand. Maybe I'm clueless but I never had an incident where I was ever late on my car insurance. Now my DL is suspended. I don't know if this place gets a kick back by starting over my insurance w/a whole new policy.
