I especially like this contrast because I think it emphasises again how determined Yuri is, since this K-O move doesn't work on him — to Twilight's complete shock. I don't think Twilight was any less vicious in his belt attack than Handler was in the previous chapter. In both cases, it appears they broke their target’s jaws. Rather Yuri is just that determined. The difference, maybe, also between a hired gun and a true believer...?

An aside but I would love if at some point in the future, Yuri also uses this belt trick when Twilight can witness it 👀

Crack Theory about Outis let's gooooo

Very unlikely that this is actually the case but then again who says it's not possible.

This entire thing stems from this little bit in TKT:

A very cute reference that I will proceed to now overthink.

Because, and this is based purely on book canon, but how would Odysseus know about it? In the Odyssey, Odysseus' wife, Penelope, starts weaving on the loom as an excuse to keep suitors away from her - until she's finished weaving a burial shroud of Odysseus' father, she will not marry anyone.

She's described as having devised this trick 3 years ago and stuck with it up until Odysseus' return. Odysseus has been gone for 20 years.

If Outis is Odysseus... how would she know about that trick?

And here we step into my theory that our dear Mrs Nobody is not who she says she is.

My theory is that "Outis" is Penelope disguising herself as her spouse while she looks for him. Penelope and Odysseus are said to be of matching wit, and being a wife of a military leader would give her knowledge of military tactics. For all we know, the company is aware of the deception, but much with Don Quixote's bloodfiendism, it allows it because Outis still does her job.

We only have Outis' words, and the fact alone her name means 'nobody' shows her identity is meant to be a reveal at some point.

And some of her EGO, such as Sunshower, Dimensional Shredder or Binds could likely also work for Penelope - being surrounded by pointless attention, searching everywhere for something not found, and being constrained by duty.

Is this likely to be the case? Probably not, and the loom may just be a little reference for reference's sake, but it's a fun thought experiment. It would also give a neat explanation as to what's stopping Outis from returning home - that's not the problem. Instead, Penelope got tired of waiting so she set out under a fake name and likely a changed appearance to drag their MIA spouse back home.

We'll see how this has aged when Canto 11 comes out in 2 years or something.

one of the most confusing yet funniest thing that happened in in medalist is actually hikaru's very one-sided beef with tsukasa lol

but i can understand though, the thing about being kids is that, it takes time for them to understand that everyone have nuance and just because other people have different opinions and ways of doing things from you, doesn't mean they're terrible people...

it's just like rioh and yodaka's whole... thing.

that man literally sees rioh as his own nephew, yet this is the guy who got some of The Most terrible communication skill in the story, and every time he talk to rioh, he just end up hurting that kid... like the beef is so one-sided, i'm glad rioh is able to meet tsukasa and gradually get over his insecurities when it comes to comparing his own success to hikaru herself and yodaka jun lol

also, inori's got her own beef with yodaka too lmao i hope tsurumaikada will let these two confront each other again, maybe without tsukasa to protect her... maybe then we'll see a new side of them 🤔🤔🤔

On the tracks of Yuri On Ice in Barcelona - Day 2 Part 1

Let's be honest. The most iconic place in Barcelona is not the Sagrada Familia. It's not Casa Batllò, nor Casa Mila or Arc de Triumph.

We should know, we took a city tour yesterday and we saw all of them. All the touristy stuff, the weird streets, the fancy avenues... None of them are it.

The most iconic place in Barcelona is the Cathedral of Barcelona. You know, this place :

I can't tell you the sheer excitement when spotting those metal gates all the way from the other side of an ocean of tourists and street artists.

We ran in front of it and were met by a big group of tourist and 2 very Stern looking people guarding the entrance to the church. We didn't care, we were not here for the inside of it anyway...

From then on, @tony-dreams suffered a long search for the perfect angle, while the guards were looking at us funny (sucks to be non-YOI fan them because we were having lots of fun and they looked very bored with life).

But Tony's pain was so worth it!

Our little Viktor and Yuuri were extremely excited and decided to exchange rings again!

And then, before we knew what was happening, an accident occurred!!

We exchanged engagement fidgeting rings in front of the cathedral????!!!

We had to take a minute to clear our heads again before heading to Las Arenas...

Standing in front of the town’s record shop, now fully redecorated to appear as though it’s a magic shop, Pearl has started to feel just a bit too out of her element.

She cranes her head awkwardly to the side to read the sign out front, which displays the words ‘The Crystal Cliffs Emporium’. Apparently, it’s where she’s supposed to go to find the next key item for her quest— collect three magical stones to unlock the seal on something called…a Rune Blade…?

So, Pearl might not be the best person to LARP with.

Yuri's dialogue (JP) is so fascinating to study, like... the repetitive use of certain words/phrases that others use sparingly but he uses constantly. the way it feels like his vocabulary is more expansive than what he uses, but he defaults to a "comfort" level of speech. the way it mixes in with his sort of "street talk" words and the sheer level of informality. the way his "street talk" phrasing is contrasted by the tone of his voice (on that note, people I know who also know JP are also very endeared by these aspects of him so I KNOW IT'S NOT JUST ME!!!).

'cause the thing is, he uses phrases that yeah, other people do use, but he uses a handful over and over and over (contrast to other characters' sparing use of repetition). it's actually... really refreshing? it sounds more relatable and less "video game/anime/JRPG/RPG" writing or something, idk. like closer to how a real person would speak.

I do my best in my translations not to make things sound too stiff across the board, but Yuri makes it so easy. it's why I'm so interested in translating all his lines in Vesperia, like... the actual, original tone for him with his original wording because it's smth Eng only players don't get to experience ('cause even if you listen with JP audio, if you don't know the language, ofc you're gonna miss out on context. it's nobody's fault for not knowing, just... they unfortunately miss out). the thing is, there are a lot of times when the lines in and of themselves are not contextually incorrect in the English ver (usually the situation for smaller scenes, because they altered the text outright for more important stuff which was the stuff that originally set me off, but there were also plenty of cases of just vocal tone shifting with the correct context that still gave off the wrong impression), but Yuri's tone is shifted away from the original in Eng even though it's completely and perfectly translatable.

I am by no means about to translate the entire game because let's face it, I really don't care that much for Vesperia on the whole. I'm kinda stuck with it because Yuri's there lo and behold I actually am WAY more engaged in his stories in Rays, Link and Asteria because it's an amazing character put into circumstances where he actually gets to shine and feels more alive, which Vesperia did not provide nearly as well with its very disjointed story. also, Tales gachas have banger stories that are arguably better than the mainline games, and they regularly make Yuri a very central character to the gachas. Crestoria was also about to do it until they pulled the plug on that game and I'm pretty confident something interesting has been lost to the world. also I just generally don't have the energy or motivation to do that, so... I'll only be focusing on Yuri's lines, especially because his stuff is where the bulk of the messing around was. he's just insanely fun to translate for and I love burying myself head first into his speech.

will I actually finish this project? dunno. will I get around to posting it? whatever I get done (so all of it if I complete it), and if I decide to call it quits then I'll post what I have at the time I decide that. will it take a long time? probably, but I can always mention stuff along the way...

Happy last day of pride, have some incredibly-toxic-yuri WIP :)

Had that girl sensed this darkness in Mireille from the beginning? If she had distrusted her, or thought she was dangerous, was she simply trying to crush Mireille before Mireille crushed her?  Or perhaps she was trying to nurture that darkness. Free it from the binds of fear. Maybe she saw Mireille as a weapon, one she could control. Mireille is more inclined toward the second possibility--but she’s genuinely not sure. Being unsure, not having all the pieces, it bothers her. Being in the dark about a situation makes her... ...scared.  Fear of the dark. In some ways, she hasn’t changed since she was a toddler; it’s just the darkness is metaphorical now. Built on a lack of understanding instead of a lack of light.
