YANDERE TWD
REUNITED (yandere! big brother! merle dixon x male reader x yandere! big brother daryl dixon) (yandere! gareth x male reader) (rick grimes x male reader if you squint) NOTES: fair warning, this is some descriptive disturbing shit merle dixon counts as a warning on his own as well. this went in many directions i originally set out for yandere headcanons for the two, then got into the terminus arc, and ended with some pretty vague alluding to yandere. might write a part two)
imagine obsessive! possessive! big brothers! merle and daryl dixon. the dead begin to walk and they keep the darlin safe, meeting up with the atlanta camp. but the brothers won't let anyone get close to the darlin, not dale, not carl, certainly not shane or lori.
somehow, the darlin ends up going with glenn into the city on a supply run, only for it to go horribly wrong. the darlin insisted they head into a chemist to "look for medications" in case anyone in the camp needed them. but it was a lie. the darlin just wanted to find something to help merle with the inevitable withdrawal he'd go through once his supply of drugs ran out. the chemist is overrun by walkers but the darlin insists. "we can clear it!" they say to glenn "it'll be worth it for m- everyone" the korean gave the other a skeptical look. in the end, there was just too many, glenn thought he saw the darlin go down and reluctantly returned to camp.
"oi! shitface, you think you're a big boy now? can do whatever you want now everything's gon' to shit!" the raspy, harsh voice of merle dixon echoed through the camp. the redneck tramped over to the SUV glenn was parking. he remained silent as he turned the engine off. taking a deep breath, the young man exited the car, staring at the grass.
the older dixon stormed over, aggressively opening every door of the vehicle until he reached the boot. filled with supplies. "where the fuck is m/n" he growled, coming closer to the asian "he better be pullin up in another car" merle spat out. "i- it was" glenn stuttered out, looking like he was about to piss his pants "it wasn't my fault, m/n was being reckless, i had no cho-" CRACK glenn's face was soon bloodied and bruised, merle now on top of him, yelling out profanities as he beat the younger man. "merle!" the others quickly ran to pull the redneck off glenn.
"you fucking ch*ng-ch*ng bastard i'll rip-" merle was pried off glenn, who was now rolling around in agony, his face a bloody mess. "what the fuck happen'd" merle rasped out, although to glenn it sounded like a croak "where is he" merle was still being held back by t-dog and shane as he continued yelling. glenn avoided the rednecks furious gaze "the walkers got him" he finally spoke, looking down.
for a moment it looked like merle was about to cry, for a moment merle himself thought he was going to burst into tears like a sissy. "no he ain't" but instead he picked up his shotgun, and got into the drivers seat of the SUV.
that was how andrea, t-dog, jackie, glenn and morales ended up in the city. that was how merle got handcuffed to a roof by "officer friendly" and that was why daryl yelled in agony on that same roof. in the course of a day, he had lost the two most important people in his life.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
but merle had survived by cutting off his left hand, and the darlin had survived by covering himself in walker guts.
"china- no- glenn- don't- help!" the h/c-et screamed, the sound of his own gun firing defeaning his ears. as one went down, another lunged at him, rotten teeth clanking together, desperately trying to knaw into his flesh. but he wouldn't die here. he couldn't. not when merle was 'relying' on him to get drugs. maybe then, the dixons would start to treat him as less of a clueless child and more of an equal.
after taking down a few, m/n jumped behind the counter, rummaging through the medications, looking for anything that might help with the withdrawal, or better, give merle his next fix. more of the dead came at him, but he just kept shooting, stabbing, hitting, anything to cause the fatal damage needed to end the dead's miserable 'life'.
BANG one was down BANG another BANG BANG BANG .. the slide didn't move forward as he shot his way through another round. shit. he was out of ammo "glenn!" he yelled out as a walker fell on top of him, wrestling it's way closer to his skin. all the korean could hear was m/n's screaming. which only attracted more walkers. he saw the medicine that m/n had thrown over the counter before going down, stuffing it into his bag, he creeped up closer to the group of walkers that had acculumated, following the sound of m/n's scream. until it stopped. "m/n?" he uttered under his breath, but the pile of walkers on top of each other told him the other was dead. with tears in his eyes, glenn ran out.
m/n struggled against the strength of the walker. it was freshly turned, he could tell. otherwise it wouldn't be so strong. kicking, punching, reaching for his knife, anything to save himself from becoming one of them. plunging his blade into the side of the walkers head, he quickly slit the once-man's throat. covering his face in the blood. before moving down to the abdomen. cutting it open, letting the walkers rotting insides pour out all over him, the ones that had piled on top soon couldn't distinguish the smell of living flesh from rotting blood.
he went silent, breathing shallowly, hoping, praying, they'd move off him and he could silently slip out. but when he was finally free of the chemist, glenn, the supplies they had gathered, and the SUV were gone.
he walked the dead-ridden streets of the once bustling city, covered in blood, hidden in plain sight. he kept walking (which then turned into a limp after getting hit in the ankle by a flying bullet) becoming weaker with each step, hoping to make his way back to camp. only to come to the end of the trainline leading into suburban atlanta. TERMINUS the building read "those who arrive survive" he heard a feminine voice call out from the speakers. maybe they have gauze. he glanced down at his leg, the sleeve of his shirt he had tied around it now dyed red.
"community for all; sanctuary for all" he saw a young man- perhaps just a little older than m/n was, staring down at him from the window. something felt amiss, off, but m/n had lost so much blood he didn't care. he stumbled towards the train station, stopping and starting as he debated his decision.
daryl, merle.. they'll be wondering he thought to himself, stopping for the 5th time, but i won't make it back he began walking again but they'll be looking for me he stopped, nearly tripping but the sudden lack of motion if i found this place they'll find it too he picked up the pace again, frantically moving towards the gates but- as he stopped himself once more, he finally tripped over. right onto the walker trap the train people had set up. his left ribcage was pierced by the sharp metal pole sticking out of the ground, causing the h/c-et to let out a loud screech.
before he knew it people had come out, the same man that had stared at him through the window moments earlier put his hand on the wound, causing m/n to flinch "we're you trying to get yourself killed?" the man mused, seemingly unphased by the active bleeding out that was happening in front of him. the man spoke more words that were muffled as m/n fell out of consciousness.
it was pitch black when he opened his eyes. not a shred of light to allude to the location. pitch black. m/n's hands brushed her his torso, feeling the gauze that was tightly wrapped around his chest. it all came back to him. the chemist, the walkers, glenn, the train people. he shifted his arms, feeling the thin material he was lated on, and the cold metal it covered. attempting to hoist himself up, pain shot through his body.
letting out a groan, he laid back down, closing his eyes. is this death. it certainly felt like it. the nothingness, the pain, it was all he had ever imagined death to be like. what felt like hours passed, the nothingness was almost comforting, how long had it been since he could lay like this and do nothing with no worries. it was all ended when the creaking of the door signaled to m/n that he was not in-fact dead.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
the sudden brightness was blinding "you awake?" a masculine voice spoke. m/n's eyes began burning from the light, "i guess" he replied quietly, his eyes closing. "good" the male put down a plate next to where m/n laid "eat up. i know this isn't the warmest welcome, i would have liked to show you around first" the man chuckled, leaning down, seemingly to get a good look at m/n.
the man- who introduced himself as gareth, began speaking about the community- terminus. that they did whatever they had to for survival, that m/n would have to prove himself loyal if he wanted to become apart of the community. he wasn't sure how to tell this gareth guy that he was leaving as soon as possible to find his group.
the discussion started off normal as m/n finished his food, until gareth started talking about how lonely he was, as the leader of this terminus community. it only got creepier as gareth started to call m/n pretty boy, edging closer to him. m/n doesn't want to know what would have happened if that middld aged lady (gareth's mother), hadn't called the man away.
it quickly became evident to m/n that he was never going to leave. gareth locked him in the pitch black train car for hours on end, opening the door when there were armed men to prevent m/n from trying anything. gareth would sit with him and talk, running his hands over the male's body, stealing kisses, it was a reprehensive routine m/n had become forcibly accustomed to.
it all changed the day the hunters attacked. m/n was in his train car, as usual, listening to the outside screams, wondering if the attackers were dead or alive. he knew they were alive when one pried open the train car door, and threw them self on him. he was then thrown into a cramped train car with other terminus residents, where the hunters hand picked who to assault and slaughter each day. he and gareth spent their days huddled up together, talking about their lives before. had m/n not accepted the hunters offer to leave the train car if he worked for them, gareth wouldn't have lost his mind. but m/n was desperate to get away. from the train car. from terminus. to find his family.
but the hunters caught him trying to leave. they did their absolute worst to him and then threw him back in. when the termites took back terminus, gareth locked the leader of the hunters and m/n into the same train car. "this is what you deserve" he told him, before locking the door shut.
perhaps it was years, perhaps it was months, maybe it was only a few hours. the horrors of the train car began to unfold, as the man who had once led the attack on terminus lost his mind: pouncing on m/n at random, screaming for hours straight, trying to eat m/n alive when they'd be deprived of food, ripping his ear off in hungered insanity. as m/n laid there bleeding from his ear, he decided either i escape or i die. had running worked before? no. was he willing to die trying? not really, but a man would do anything for freedom, and that's what m/n did.
the hunter had fallen asleep, a fatal mistake, as m/n wrapped his hands around the mans unshaven neck and squeezed. within second the man awoke but m/n was relentless, not letting go until the other went limp. i just have to wait now he cried to himself, hands shaking. calming, he began to strip the man of his clothes and use the fabric to restrain his limbs.
waiting for the termites to open the door with the meal made of human flesh felt like an eternity. the familiar sound of metal scratching and creaking filled m/n's ear, who quickly sprung into action.
grabbing the reanimated hunter by the hair, he guided it in the direction of the door, throwing it towards the woman holding their plates. she screeched as the hunters corpse sank it's teeth into her flesh, blood pouring from the wound.
m/n grabbed the woman's gun and bolted as the nearby workers aimed their guns at the walker, taking it down swiftly, but m/n had already gotten out of the train car. hiding behind what once was his cage, he shot at every person who came into view. eventually making his way to the fence, through the woods, he didn't stop running until the sound of gunshots stopped entirely. even then, he kept running. he ran for what felt like hours until his lungs couldn't take it anymore. collapsing onto the dirt, heaving in and out.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
woodbury had fallen, it's entire population now living in the prison nearby. rick had relinquished his leadership, insisting the prison be governed by a council. he often went on runs by himself, to get away from it all, to look back on his actions, to find lost survivors. it wasn't everyday rick grimes came across a twenty something perhaps younger male covered in blood, breathing like he had never tasted air before. well, usually the young men were walkers. but this one was very much alive.
"please don't" the male groaned out, eyes wide, as rick approached with a knife. "who are you" he drawled out, kneeling down to get a good look at the other. the young males face was bruised, his hair covered in blood, an ear was missing, and the male was emaciated. "uh" the male seemed to have to think about it, as if he hadn't spoken to another human in years "m/n" he finally puffed out, bringing his hand up to his head, where the left ear once was.
rick's hands brushed m/n hair out of his face, causing the male to flinch away "how many walkers have you killed" the older man finally asked after several moments of silence. m/n just stared at him, as if to say he hadn't been keeping track "how many people have you killed" still, the same look. "water" "what" rick narrowed his eyes. m/n used his free hand to shakily point to the man's bag, where a bottle of water was latched on to the side.
rick was silent as m/n chugged the water down "do you have anything sweet?" "no i don't" "oh" something about the boy felt familiar. didn't glenn mention originally going into atlanta to find a boy with a similar description? maybe it was just that the male reminded him of his own boy in a way, or maybe he had already developed a fondness for m/n. "i have a camp" rick looked m/n in the eye "we have walls, food, a community, a doctor that can look at your wound" he added.
the h/c-et shook his head "not again" rick furrowed his brows "what" the boy started to pick himself up "i gotta, um" he started feeling around the ground for his gun, "gotta go" he finished as he felt the handle of the gun. stuffing the weapon into his belt, he stood up, using a tree as a crutch. "c'mon kid, you're going to die out here" rick leaned forward and took the gun out of the others hand "no im not! give it!" m/n lunged forward, only to awkwardly fall into rick's chest, sinking down back to the ground.
"you've got two bullets left" m/n looked up at rick with a glare "either you come back to my camp with me or i just wasted my water on a dead man" m/n held his glare until the sun got into his eyes. "whatever" he looked down, hoisting himself back to his feet with the help of rick's hand.

daryl squinted his eyes as the evening sun glared down, merle had stolen his motorcycle. again. the older dixon was always going off on fun runs without informing anyone beforehand. perhaps because the redneck had never really been accepted into the group like daryl was.
taking another bite of his pork chop, daryl grunted at carol who told him to go in and get some rest. but why would he want to rest when all he could think of when his mind was unoccupied was his baby brother, the boy he had pretty much raised, who was now probably a rotting corpse in atlanta. but daryl still held out hope that m/n had gotten out, that he was safe, that he would find him oneday. this was why he never rested, these thoughts would creep up in the younger dixons head.
the sound of his motorcycle rumbling told him that merle was back. the older dixon sauntered over to daryl, a cigarette sat between his thin lips, "look what you're big brother merle got you, darylina" he pulled a pack of cigarettes out his pocket, sliding it into daryls pocket. daryl said nothing, staring into the distance; was that rick? the figure was too far away to discern.
"dad!" carl called out, jogging down. "look what i- m/n?" the young grimes exclaimed as he came closer to the pair. rick carried the half-conscious boy through the gates "you know this guy?" rick looked at carl, who flicked the hair out of m/n's face to get a better look "he was with us back in atlanta, we thought he died on a run"
daryl's heart stopped, did he hear carl right? they were pretty far away. standing up, he threw the pork bone aside and marched towards the two- three. when he finally came close enough to see the persons face, he had to stop himself from tearing up in front of carl and rick "m/n" he uttered out quietly. the father and son came to a halt as he approached "you knew this guy back in atlanta" rick nodded at daryl "'course i did. he's my brother" daryl was quick to take m/n off rick. he wanted to cut the mans arms off just for touching his precious brother.
daryl rushed m/n into the prison, settling him in his cell, "go get hershel" he told carol, who looked just as perplexed as merle did as he walked into the cell. "m/n!? i thought you was dead" he breathed out, shoving daryl out the way, who was quick to push back, both wanting to be as close to their younger brother as possible "where'd you find him" merle looked over at rick, who was standing out front the cell "in the woods, looked like he'd been running"
rick moved aside as hershel came in, merle reluctantly stood up as hershel sat to access m/n's condition. "he's lost a lot of blood" hershel examined the ear hole where the flesh and muscle had been ripped from "we should have bob look at him, but from what i can see he needs bandaging and antibiotics" daryl grunted "i ain't letting no stranger touch him" he ushered hershel away, taking m/n's hand in his own "i found antibiotics on last weeks run, that gon' be enough" merle looked over at the old man, who nodded "we'll have to see how he reacts"
neither daryl or merle left m/n's side whilst waiting for the antibiotics to kick in. it was strange. no one in the prison had ever seen either of them so worried for or attached to someone. but for the six days and nights m/n spent unconscious, his body fighting off the infection from his wounds, recovering from the months of maltreatment.
when m/n finally opened his eyes, taking in his surroundings, daryl was leaned against the wall at the edge of the bed, eyes locked on the boys face "sleep well?" was the first thing he said after the two had stared at each other for what felt like an eternity "yeah" m/n spoke softly.
"i should have never gone hunting that day" "am i dead" the two spoke in unison. daryl breathed out "no, never gon' let that happen" he shuffled closer, laying down next to the youngest dixon.
daryl stared at m/n intensely, until merle was roused from his sleep "m/n, i told you not to go out of my sight" he grumbled, sitting forward. m/n looked up at the metal frame of the top bunk "i just wanted to get you some narcan" merle stared at him, blinking away tears "didn' have to risk your life for it" he pursed his lips "i ain't worth you dyin'" he added quietly, sitting back, his eyes not leaving m/n's.
the room went silent for a moment "maybe not, but you're my brother" m/n closed his eyes for a moment "do you guys have pop or candy here?" he questioned hopefully. merle let out a chuckle "i found a can on my run today" he chuckled out, before going quiet "i chugged it on the spot"
"you piece of shit!"

Daryl could feel the gazes on him as he swept the outside of the Sanctuary. Most of them were laughing and taking joy out of his humiliation, others were with pity.
Most of the pity looks were coming from the women and the others were from men that had gone through a similar situation as him before they had rolled over and submitted to Negan.
Negan
Even the name left a bad taste in his mouth, the mere thought of thinking of the heartless man caused vile to raise up his throat before he pushed it down to continue with his daily punishment.
He would sit in his cell for two days, sitting in the pitch black, the only sound that filled the small space was the heavy foot steps of those who walked by and the maddening sound of ‘easy street’ booming on replay. The only food that was spared to him was the leftover bread and expired wet dog food. Then he would be put to work for two days, working for sixteen hours a day before being returned to his cell for Dwight to humiliate him all over again.
Sometimes if he got lucky Negan would bring him to Alexandria and even if it was to make a joke out of him, he craved to make sure his family was okay.
It killed him that he couldn’t reach out and hug his family, his brother and he knew it killed Rick too.
He knew how Rick was, he cared more about his people then he did himself. He would always put himself in harms way to protect his group and it was in his best interest to just cooperate with Negan and his demand to save everyone in Alexandria from suffering the same fate as Glenn and Abraham had on that fateful night.
A hard shove snapped him out of his thoughts as a saviour glared up at him from his slightly smaller frame and as he did he finally caught your eye.
He realized you must’ve been around Carl’s age, you were wearing light blue jeans and an orange sweater that dipped down the shoulders, your eyes tightly locked on his face.
He turned his head back to the task at hand and continued his work not wanting to receive an unnecessary punishment.
It almost caused embarrassment to consume him. He was never like this, he would never cower in fear of somebody. He promised himself he would never back down but for the well-being of everyone in Alexandria, he swallowed his pride and allowed himself to be made a fool.
….
He heard light foot steps making there way down the hallway. He had just assumed a women would be on night watch, he certainly wasn’t expecting you to be opening his small, dark cell.
His questioning eyes watched you as you left the door open a small sliver, just enough to shine a little light into a certain part of the cell but left it closed enough that it wouldn’t be noticed if someone had decided that, that was the best time to look down the doomy hallway. A small plate was in your grasp leaving a sick feeling in his stomach at having to eat another dog food sandwich, but his worry was quickly put to rest when you took a seat in the corner closest to the ajared door.
“I’m not here to hurt you. I promise.” You finally spoke as you noticed the look he was giving you.
He noticed you look down at the plate before slowly sliding it over to him and it was just then that he realized it’s contents. It was two sandwiches, they were made with white bread, some kind of cold cut meat and they contained lettuce, tomato and what he assumed was mustard.
“It’s for you. Sorry I couldn’t make something else, It’s just really late and the cook went out for a smoke break so it was all I had time to grab. I wasn’t really sure what you liked so I just assumed. I hate tomatoes and mustard but I didn’t think you did.” You rambled on anxiously toying with your fingers as you looked at him, and as you did you noticed the reluctant look on his face.
“Go ahead, it’s okay.” He looked at it for a few more minutes, silence filling the room as you stared down at the ground before your eyes snapped up at the sound of him grabbing the plate before stuffing his face with its contents.
You heard a sound leave his lips as he ate the most fresh and real food he has had in more then two weeks.
“Hopefully it’s okay, I mean it has to be better then what they feed people over here.” There was no response only the sound of chewing filled the room. Normally the sound would make you cringe but you were just happy he was finally eating something good.
It only took a few minutes for the sound to dim into nothing as he quietly placed the plate back where you had originally placed it.
His eyes left the floor and met yours through his dark hair, and he looked at you for a moment before he gave you a slight nod.
If you hadn’t been paying close attention to the larger man you wouldn’t have noticed but you were. You could see the uncertainty in his gaze as well as the appreciation.
“I can bring you something else next time. I might just cook it in my room and try and bring it to you a bit earlier.”
He just continued looking at you, as if to decipher if you were lying or not before looking away.
“Is there anything you like?” You asked turning your head to try and catch his eye but it was useless.
You let out a light sigh in understanding before reaching to grab the plate, slowly pulling yourself to your feet as you pushed the door open quietly and just wide enough to squeeze through. As you did so you were halfway through the door, when you heard the deep but scratchy voice.
“Thank you.” As all that was said and when you turned your head you saw him now facing you. You couldn’t see his eyes due to the lack of light and his long hair but you could only assume he was looking at you.
A smile pulled at your lips as you mutter an “Of course.” Before you finally exited the cell, quietly closing and locking it as you tiptoed your way to your overly large room. When doing so your eyes landed on the watch on your wrist that read 2:10 am, thank god your dad was asleep.

Okay but don't think about older Daryl when he returns from France.
Jude and the kids are all adults now, and a new generation he's never met before is waiting for him when he returns to the gates.
He rides a different custom bike now, a trike, perhaps. Bikes get so heavy and Daryl isn't as sturdy anymore.
The greying in his beard now traveled upward, streaking his once dark brown hair with silver strands.
His leg never healed properly after Alpha's attack, his limp getting so bad he sports a cane now on solid ground, a brace covering his bad leg for forest trips and hunts. He never stopped.
But now, seeing you all grown up, no longer 'that kid' in your early 20s he feels its time to settle. It was clear the community thrived without his hunting so he'd gather the courage, even in his old age, to ask it if you'd be willing to take up the job as his caretaker.
He could still do almost everything on his own, but he really wanted to be in your company as much as he could now.
And of course you agreed.
Daryl had saved your life so often, and you cared deeply for the man.
You'd happily share your home with the old huntsman.

Everybody Dies
Pairings: Rick Grimes x teen!reader, Daryl Dixon x teen!reader, Carl Grimes x teen!reader, Michonne Hawthorne x teen!reader, Aaron x teen!reader, Negan x teen!reader, Rosita Espinosa x teen!reader, Eugene Porter x teen!reader, Sasha Williams x teen!reader (all of them are platonic)
Requested by: @leahsbasement may i request a teen or child g/n reader that’s really close to the twd group and during the lineup they’re one of the people chosen by negan to yknow- receive the glenn and abraham treatment💀 and like we get some reactions from the group from it🧎 i apologize if this sounds really morbid but i am dire need of some good angst and i love your writing sm it’s amazing <3
Warnings: reader death, angst, a tad bit of fluff (definitely not much), mention of character death, description of Negan doing what he did to Glenn and Abraham, blood, mention of a brutal way to die, idk what more I guess you have all seen twd so you know what might be in this. Not proofread
A/N as usual the gif is not mine, found it somewhere on the internet. This is not proofread, well half of it is.
Now I tried to do a reaction with all of the people at the line up so sorry with Sasha I guess bc I don’t like her so found it a bit hard to write her as a character that’s close to the reader, and once more thank you for the request, it gave me an excuse to write this
Anyway idk what I think of this, wrote it in the middle of the night because I couldn’t sleep, so anyway hope you like it.

Everybody dies a little when the brightest soul disappears.
A sea of red water mixed with the gravel and mud on the ground. The trail of blood — that had gone its own path from the puddle it was previously in, could be followed towards two bodies. One of a hunched man, who racked with sobs through his entire body. His hands grasped towards the body before him. Blood still oozed from the head. Or what someone would once have called a head, as it was now just remains of smashed bones and brain goo. The once familiar face was unrecognizable to anyone. No one would ever be able to pinpoint who the body belonged to, because the head atop of it was gone. It had been smashed into a puddle of goo. No one would ever be able to see your smiling face, or the mischievous smirk that pulled at your lips whenever you wanted to rebel a bit. Nor would they ever see the sparkles in your eyes whenever you talked about the things you liked.
No one of the group surrounding the three bodies wanted to acknowledge what had happened. How could they. They’d all just seen three of their family members die, because of their actions. Because of them. The teenager in which the hunched man had taken a tight grip of their hands had warned them about the attack. That nothing good would come out of it, that it wasn’t who they were. Rick had been wrong like everyone else to ignore the teenager’s warnings. In the end it was what cost them your life. Their choice of actions had been the beginning of your end.
Rick couldn’t let the image out of his head, he couldn’t even look at your body as he held you tightly. His eyes stared into the distance at nothing in particular as his mind tried to register what had happened just a few hours ago. His cries had stopped only for his eyes to glaze over once more with tears. He couldn’t help but to think that it was all his fault. He had the final vote on what to do, and his vote caused your death. It caused Negan to seek them out. To line them up. To smash your head with his goddamn wired baseball bat. His goddamn Lucille. He swore to kill Negan if it was the last thing he did, whether you would want him to or not, he needed to. Rick wanted nothing more than revenge. Nothing more than justice and revenge brought to you, Glenn and Abraham.
Not soon after Rick had stopped crying his son had walked over to you and him. His eye was bloodshot by the tears that rolled down his red cheek. And his hand went up to rub his eye off the tears as he tried to control himself, as he sat beside his father. Same as everyone else at the brutal scene he couldn’t let go of the events. How everyone got a look of dread and fear on their face as Negan announced that he’d had to kill two more because of Daryl’s little outburst. Carl had glanced at his father to see that for once under this meeting he held actual fear in his eyes when Negan’s bat had landed in front of you. It was deadly quiet as all of the group watched you stare dead into the eyes of Negan who looked at you with a scary face, gleaming with excitement as he noticed everyone’s reaction.
Negan had watched with glee as everyone went into submission after Lucille had stopped in front of you. He’d felt kinda sorry for you. He didn’t usually kill teenagers but something about you annoyed him so greatly. Maybe it was the way you didn’t look with fear into his eyes, how you held your own, even with the knowledge that you would soon be dead. He didn’t know what it was but he had decided to kill you, well he decided in a way.
Maggie who had lost her husband and father to her child, stared with emptiness at you. She didn’t know if she’d be able to take it if you died as well. She had tried to fight the man holding her down, but to no vain. Her already bloodshot eyes had filled with tears and sobbed had shook through her body as soon as she saw Negan start to swing his bat. She didn’t want to lose you, she couldn’t. But her silent prayer came to no good end.
Rosita was no better than Maggie. Since the first time you met when you and Glenn together with Tara searched for Maggie the two of you had gotten close and she as everyone else got flashes of your lives together. Of all your good and bad memories of everything you had survived. How you’d found an apple tree that hadn’t been destroyed at a random location in the forest and thrown apples at your companions heads as they hadn’t stopped when you told them to. Or how you’d draw drawings with the kids in Alexandria or help hunting and scavenging for food. Getting stuck in a building while a herd of walkers walked past. The blood and the gore of every kill. All of them comforting you while you cried yourself to sleep, all the cuddles you forced them into, especially Rick and Daryl. How you forced them to take a break so that they wouldn’t overwork themselves while doing the exact same thing. Needing help from others to make sure you actually took care of yourself and not just everyone else. It just made them all get to the brink of breaking even quicker as they thought of all your moments together. Not only did memories flash inside your head, nor only Rosita’s they flashed through everyone. You had always looked out for them and what had they given you in return, nothing but death.
Sasha wasn’t especially close to you but the previous death of Abraham and Glenn and now you had her at her breaking point. She might not have known you well but you were a good kid, you helped and knew how to survive. You didn’t take unnecessary risks and you’d helped her through her losses. So she tried nothing more than to break herself away from reality as she heard the bat make contact with your head. It reminded her too much of the other two kills and she couldn’t look through another one, not again.
Eugene only stared at the distance as sobs racked through his body not being able to watch you die. He couldn’t even bring his eyes to look at you afterwards, he’d never be able to erase the short scream of pain that had left your lips. He was at a loss of words and he wouldn’t be able to really function in a few days, much like everyone else. He was scared shitless and he didn’t know for anything in the world what to do or say in the hours that came after.
Negan had looked at everyone, gauging even the slightest reaction out of them. Michonne had watched helplessly at you, she’d tried not to flinch everytime the bat hit you among a sound she’d never wished she ever heard ever in her life. The only thing on her mind was how she taught you how to sword fight or when you hunted a deer together and accidentally fell into a puddle of mudd getting every inch of you covered in it.
Arron, who had been right beside you, wanted to crawl away as your blood splashed onto the right side of him. He remembered all the times you’d gone over to him and Eric to eat pasta not wanting to socialize with the rest of Alexandria. You’d always go to him or Daryl.
Arron felt sick as he felt your warm blood on his cold cheek, and he felt even more sick as he made a glance at Daryl who didn’t do anything else but staring with regret and anger at your body who now laid lifeless on the ground. When Aaron dared a glance at you his throat became thick and a sob threatened to come out but he didn’t make a sound instead he stared at you before he looked with fear, numbness, anger and defeat at Negan.
But it wasn’t until Negan had looked at Rick Carl and Daryl did he notice that he sure as hell picked the wrong one to kill, deep inside, he knew that he’d just started a war. A war that wouldn’t take too long to brew over to the real fight. However he was filled with glee over getting a few peaceful weeks at reveling in his power and control over Alexandria. Maybe that would make the war something never to come, how wrong he had been on that thought.
Daryl felt nothing but guilt as he looked at you and it was all he thought of when he got loaded into the car and the Saviours drove away with him. He regretted having lashed out. Regretted ever getting angry. Daryl knew more than anyone that he’d miss you when you were gone. Like Beth, he’d miss you, even more so than Beth.
Carl had held a strong front, but on the inside he was breaking he lost his best friend and the only kid that had been with him since the beginning of the disaster they now lived in.
Now in the present Carl placed his hand on Rick’s shoulder as everyone surrounded your body (except for Maggie, Sasha, Rosita and Eugene). The two Grimes hugged each other as Carl dug his head into Rick’s chest. The older Grimes, having stopped his crying once more, tried his best to comfort his son while he himself was still breaking.
Rick, like Carl and Daryl, had held a shield with spikes as defense against Negan, as they had all starred with the same thought of killing Negan running through their heads. They had let a numb shield cover them while their enemies still surrounded them. They hadn’t let go of the shield until their enemies were gone. (Or in Daryl’s case until he was alone in the cell he was placed in at the sanctuary).
That day, the day you died, was the day everyone in Alexandria died a little with you. You were the brightest soul in most of their lives and to lose you was one of the worst things to ever happen to any of them.

you most definitely can decline if you have too much on your plate/you don’t want to, but could i request platonic dad!daryl and daughter!reader? where they get separated when the prison falls (reader was on her own and then met with the group at terminus). After the events at Terminus they finally get a chance to hug and spend time together and reader is crying and ranting about how she was so scared and she wishes she could be strong like Daryl, and Daryl lets her in on his own worries and comforts her? i was thinking reader is like early teens (14-15)
again feel free to decline if you want! 🧡

Summary: After Terminus, you finally reunited with your father. While he was busy bandaging your arm after an injury you sustained, you let all your emotions out. Daryl, in a rare moment, shared his own feelings with you.
Genre: Fluff.
Era: Post Terminus.
Warnings: Swearing, mentions of near death experiences.
Word count: 1.2k.
A/n: Had to throw in a little bit of overprotective Dad!Daryl at the end. I hope you like this!
➳༻❀✿❀༺➳
You winced in pain when your father poured alcohol over your open wound. Your hand instinctively jerked back, the long gash on your arm burning with the fire of a thousand suns. You scrunched your face in pain, closing your eyes against the pain.
“M'sorry, Bean,” Daryl apologized, pulling the bottle away and placing it on the ground. He reached into his bag and grabbed a bandage he had managed to find in some abandoned house, and he started wrapping it around the gnarly wound. “Jus' try and hold still, alrigh'? This'll be over sooner if ya do.”
“Okay,” you whispered, opening your eyes and looking at your father's face. His face betrayed no emotions; he simply focused on bandaging your arm, his usual stoic expression on his face. He showed no ounce of fear, nothing to show that he thought he was going to die. That made you kind of envious. “How do you do it?”
Daryl halted his movements with the bandage, his blue eyes flicking up to meet your gaze. “M'guessin' yer not talkin' 'bout bandagin' someone's arm, are ya?”
You shook your head. “No, I'm not,” you replied in a broken whisper.
“Talk to me, Bean,” Daryl urged you, slowly resuming with the task of bandaging your arm. “Wha's on yer mind?”
You stayed silent for a moment, your eyes straying to the rest of the group. The only thing you could see in the dark was the light that the campfire emitted. The group was seated around the fire, a couple of them laying down to catch some sleep while a couple of others stayed up, mindlessly staring into the fire while others were keeping a cautious eyes on the tree line, trying to see if walkers or the survivors of Terminus were going to attack.
Shifting your attention back to your father, you swallowed deeply, trying to will the lump in your throat to go away. “How are you so brave?”
Daryl frowned in confusion. “Wha'?”
“How are you so brave?” you repeated, diverting your eyes to the ground. “You're not afraid of anything. You weren't scared when the camp at the quarry got overrun. You weren't scared at the CDC. When the farm fell, and then the prison, Terminus... You weren't scared at all. I was. I still am. When the prison fell, I escaped with someone, but he didn't make it long. The walkers got to him. Then I was alone, and I was so scared. I thought I was gonna die out there, alone, without knowing whether or not everyone was alive or not. Then I saw the Terminus maps, and I managed to find my way there, but everything quickly went to crap. I got thrown into that train cart, and I thought I was gonna be killed, but there you were. You were alive and you all had a plan to get out. It was a close call, and I almost got killed, but we got out. Through all of that, you weren't scared. You're so brave, and I'm not. I'm not.”
Daryl tightened the bandage around your arm before he withdrew his hands. He stayed silent for a few moments before he sighed, shaking his head.
“Ya ain't got no idea how wrong ya are,” he started, chuckling slightly at the way you furrowed your eyebrows in confusion—a trait you had inherited from him. “Bean, I was real fuckin' scared. All those times ya mentioned, I was terrified. I jus' put on a brave face fer ya 'cause I know ya needed me to be. When I saw the walkers back at the quarry camp, and I couldn't find ya immediately, I thought the walkers got ya. At the CDC, when tha' asshole wouldn't unlock the door, I thought we were gon' get blown up. I thought tha' my twelve year old lil' girl was gon' die, and there wasn't anythin' I could do to stop it. With the farm and now the prison, I thought ya didn't make it out. I spent the whole time wonderin' if ya were alive. I thought—I thought tha' ya were dead. I was so scared, Bean. I ain't ever been as scared like I was when the prison fell. I felt broken, empty. And then I found ya, but those psychopaths almost killed ya in front of me. I jus'... I can't lose ya. Yer my baby girl, even if yer already fourteen years old. I'd rather die than lose ya again.”
You leaned forward and wrapped your arms around him, sniffling as Daryl wrapped his arms around you tightly. He pressed a kiss to your temple and slightly rocked you from side to side, just like he used to do when you were younger and had just woken up from a nightmare. Being in your father's embrace made you feel safe, like nothing could ever hurt you again. You wished you could always feel that way.
“I love you, Dad,” you whispered softly.
“Love ya too, Bean. More than ya know.” Daryl soon pulled back from the hug and gave you a small smile, and nudged his head in the direction of the campfire. “C'mon, let's head back. Ya need somethin' to eat.”
You nodded and got up, following behind your father as you walked back to the rest of the group. You settled down beside Carl while Daryl sat down next to Rick.
Carl sent you a small smile, nervously fiddling with his hands. “Hey, Y/n. How's your arm?”
You smiled at him and shrugged. “I'll live. I've had worse.”
“Yeah, and yet you're still alive,” Carl replied, still nervously fidgeting with his hands. “You're a badass.”
“Thanks, Carl,” you thanked him. Noticing his fidgeting, but mistaking his nerves for coldness, you grabbed one of his hands and held it in your own. “Here, let me warm your hands for you. My hands are like a furnace.”
You missed the way Carl ducked his head, a blush spreading across his face but he smiled in silent glee. “Yeah, okay.”
As you and Carl silently conversed to yourselves, with Carl staring at you in awe, Daryl watched the two of you closely. His glare rested on his best friend's son and the way he held your hand, and Daryl couldn't help the surge of overprotectiveness that flooded his body. He visibly stiffened, catching Rick's attention.
Rick followed his line of sight and chuckled at what he saw. “Look at that. Young love, huh?”
Daryl glared at Rick. “Yer son better keep his hands off'a her. They're too young to be thinkin'a tha'.”
“Do what you want, Daryl, but if they wanna be together, they're gonna find a way, despite your rules.”
Well, Daryl thought, then he'd just have to bestow the fear of god into the young boy, and make sure that if he ever hurt you, his little girl, walkers would be the least of his problems.

You were walking behind Daryl, talking his ear off about the comic you had found in an old, broken down store. You hadn't really realized how much you were talking and who you were talking to. Carl used to listen to you ramble on and on about the comics, but he saw where you came from. Daryl had never been one for them. A squirrel crawling up a tree caught his attention. He brought his bow up, aiming until you went through one of your fits, your voice going up an octave as you got excited. The squirrel scurried off.
Daryl had swung around, glaring at you through his eyelids. "Do ya ever shut up? There just went our dinner because you can't be quiet about a stupid comic book!" He had never raised his voice at you. Sure, you've seen him angry, but it was never directed towards you. He saw you as his own, never wanting to hurt you.
"Bunny,"
"Fuck you." Any trace of a tear was gone, replaced by a straight face. You walked right past him, in the direction that the squirrel had gone off to.
He went after you, kicking himself. He knew you hated getting yelled at. It was like an off switch for you. All excitement had been drained from your eyes.
He waited, giving you space, where you weren't in his line of sight, but he could track where you went, seeing your footprints in the dirt.
As he was walking, he stared at the ground until your shoes were in front of his. He looked up, seeing you holding the dead squirrel by its back legs. "Here's dinner, asshole." He caught the squirrel as you threw it.
Daryl watched your face as you looked deep into the flames of the small campfire he had made to cook the meat of the squirrel and keep you warm in the Autumn night air.
"Bunny, look, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to yell at ya. I just hadn't found any food for ya and when I did, it ran away."
Daryl has never been one to apologize, but always been one to grumble and mumble back. But he couldn't just let you off thinking he wasn't sorry. He wouldn't be able to live if something were to happen to you and you ended up thinking he wasn't sorry. He'd blame himself for yet another death.
"Whatever."
"Don't do that." It's the teen angst, he had to remind himself. Carl went through it, he knew. "Don't 'whatever' me, damnit." There wasn't any fire behind the curse, he almost sounded desperate for you to know he didn't mean it. He felt it was his fatherly duty to keep you alive, feed you.
"It's okay, Daryl, really. I get it." Your facade disappeared, along with your posture. Your body folded in on itself, knees to your chest. "I just don't have anyone to talk to about them, anymore, ya know."
After Carl died, it was as if your world crumbled. He was like a big brother to you, and now he is gone.
You felt arms around you, bringing you into a hug. The warmth around you was comforting but it was new. He had never hugged you before. It was a fatherly hug, one he wished would take all the negative thoughts away; one to fix everything that has ever gone wrong. "Well this is a first."
He pulled back slightly, halfheartedly glaring at you as he grumbled. "Not a word to anybody, got it?"

Closet (Daryl Dixon x PlatonicFem!Reader)
You had been hiding a part of yourself for years, it only took the world to end to finally speak your truth.
Tumblr media
You stood on Aaron and Eric's porch, bracing yourself against the railing. They had prepared dinner for yourself and Daryl, as payment for bringing some spices back from a supply run. It was a lovely gesture, and it made you hate yourself even more when you couldn't stand to be in their company for too long. It was the hand holding, the loving gazes, the inside jokes. It was the way they shared gentle touches, so openly and so in love. It was the kisses and the laughs and the smiles.
It was hard to recognise the nasty feeling festering in your gut. It turned your gaze green and made yourself bitter.
You were jealous.
You shook your head, leaning back, trying to let the night wind wipe your sadness away. You wanted to push past this feeling - Aaron and Eric were lovely people, good people, yet you felt yourself turning sour the longer you spent in their company.
The door clicked softly behind you. You jerked, frantically wiping a hand at your cheeks. You turned, expecting to see Aaron or Eric wondering why you hadn't come back in after twenty minutes, but it was Daryl. You smiled weakly, secretly grateful that you didn't have to endure being in the presence of the lovebirds. Even on their own they managed to ooze cupid's scent.
"Hey." Daryl stood beside you, turning to look up at the night sky. The stars twinkled back. "Beautiful night."
You nodded in agreement, attempting to muster the energy to talk, to explain your disappearance.
"Food was good."
You nodded again.
Daryl sighed, playing with his fingers, tugging softly at the cuticles. "Look, ya know I'm no good at this small talk shit. I think we've been friends long enough to skip that crap, and you've been acting like this ever since we got here. Distant."
You bit your lower lip, taking comfort in gnawing at the skin. Your heart wanted to spill it all, to let loose your truth, but your fear kept you trapped.
"Did Aaron or Eric do somethin' to ya?"
You were that shocked at the thought you snapped your head to his. "No. They've been nothing but kind."
"Then what the hell is it?"
"I -" You averted your gaze, keeping your eyes glued firmly to the wood of the porch. "I can't tell you." You muttered, hating how water splashed on your cheeks. Your heart pounded in your chest.
Daryl reached forward, softly grabbing you under the chin, turning you to face him. You tried to muster a smile, though it did nothing to hide the tears freely pouring down. "You're cryin'."
Your hand moved to your cheek absentmindedly, aggressively wiping the wet away. Defeated, you pulled yourself away from Daryl, slumping to the floor feeling as if the world was trying to pull you down.
A beat of silence passed, then two. You wanted to speak; the ball in your throat choked the words. "Whatever it is, ya can tell me."
You pulled your chin into your knees, shoulders sagging. Your chest felt tight, the possibility of letting the truth pass your lips stealing your breath. But then you spotted Daryl at the edge of your vision, his brows creased in concern. He was your closest friend, your greatest confidant. You had told him about your night terrors, and he slept beside you, a moment away, to protect you from the monsters haunting the land of dreams. You leaned on him when you had killed in self defence. You relied on him to watch your back on runs, and he hadn't failed you yet.
He hadn't outright spoken to you of his past; he had let his lips loosen more around you than anyone else. He showed you the cigarette burns - never his back. You never dared to ask, knowing that was one private terror he would spill in his own time.
This man would never judge you. He would never press for more if you weren't ready, and he definitely would never leave your side. He was your platonic soul mate.
You released a heavy breath, scooting along to make room for him. Your voice was as quiet as a mouse - as a hunter you knew he heard. "I've never told anyone."
Daryl was quiet, accepting your invitation and settling in beside you. He didn't move to comfort you; he sat close enough to know he was there.
You clenched your fingers into your palm, the pain of the nails biting into the skin distracting you for the self destructive thoughts whizzing around in your head. "I'm jealous of them."
"Why?"
He's going to walk away, your brain whispered. He's going to leave you and you will be all alone surrounded by people. He's going to sneer at you and ignore your existence.
A large, calloused hand pried your fingers out of their fists. The skin of your palms cried in relief, sharp indents speckled with blood released into the air. You looked up at Daryl, and at his hand.
You screamed at the voices in your mind, uttering the words you never spoke aloud. "Because they're living their truth, they're not afraid."
Daryl stared at your crumpled form, it taking a moment to sink in. His mouth opened and closed like a fish out of water - no one had ever told him this kind of thing before, he had no idea how to respond. Turns out Daryl didn't need to worry, because the moment you started talking you unlocked the door you had kept barred shut for years.
"I've known ever since I was a teenager, kept it as quiet as I could. I dated, but it never went past the first date. I couldn't... be myself, and I think it's because I couldn't accept myself, and I think my dates could sense that too." You laughed darkly. "You know how if you were applying for a job, you had to state your sexual orientation? I always put "prefer not to say" as I was afraid to admit to the world that I'm a lesbian." You looked at Daryl, trying to sense any shift in him. He hadn't started cursing you out or walked away. The doubting voices in your head quietened.
You sniffled. "I'm envious of their confidence. Their openness. Is that stupid?"
Daryl shook his head. "Nah, it's not."
"You know what the stupidest thing of all is?" You shook your head, "It's taken until the end of the world to admit out loud that I am a lesbian."
Daryl wrapped his arm around you, bringing you close. "Proud of ya."
You relished his warmth, the warmth of your best friends embrace eradicating those voices for good. It felt as if a weight had been lifted off of your shoulders, and you could tell him about a part of your life you had kept hidden for so long.
"Thanks."
Daryl squeezed the hug tighter around you. "Feel better?"
"Bit."
"Well, come on. Dessert is waiting." Daryl got to his feet, putting his hand out to you.
You gulped, looking at the hand, then him. "You don't think any different of me, do you?"
"Hell nah, you're still a dumbass in my eyes."
You snorted.
"And hey, I can be your wing man."
"I'd love to see that Daryl."
As you walked back into the warmth of Aaron and Eric's home, you felt a peace settle inside you. The conversation didn't solve your insecurity and anxiety, but you felt better having admitted your truth out loud to your best friend.
You were on a long journey to accept yourself, whilst dealing with the trials and tribulations an apocalypse could bring, but in that moment, you were happy.
In your mind you repeated I am a lesbian, a smile forming on your lips.

Daryl kept close to his sister the entire welcome into this community and because he’d have to translate for some of the people. Especially Deanna.
“Would you be willing to teach us? We have an ASL book in our library”
This place really has it all huh Y/N signs with her good hand to Daryl as he shrugs for the most part. She nods to Deanna’s asking as Deanna smiles warmly.
“Great! We can arrange such tomorrow but as for a job for you…we’ll still have to discuss such. We have a surgeon in our community that would be more than happy to take a look at that for you” Deanna refers to Y/N’s broken fingers from the time with the claimers watching her cover them with her other hand. She didn’t want to be reminded of them, even if there’s a reminder living on her.
Deanna took note that Daryl was protective of Y/N just from their interviews. No shit they are siblings. But she knew that if she messed with one, she was messing with the other…and worse.
“Where’s your sister go?” Rick asks Daryl about to enter their new residence when he noticed the archer skinning the possum he found outside the gates.
“Inside. She’s checking everything to make sure nothing surprises us”
“By herself?”
“You don’t want to see her when she’s in pain”
“She’s in pain?” Rick frowns thinking one of the Alexandrians must have hurt her further than what she has already endured.
“Yeah, but it’s her hand. We both know it’s bound to hurt. Just. The boss lady made her go get checked out by the doc…Y/N didn’t let me go with her, next thing yknow the doc popped one of her fingers back in place” Daryl rips the skin off tossing it on the railing to the house. “She’s scary when she’s in pain. Has been since…yeah. Anyway, if she tosses somethin’ at yea. I told you so”
Rick took what Daryl said with caution as he enters the house not finding Y/N immediately. He checked the place out himself finding some of the groups’ belongings in the living room and additional stuff provided by Alexandria for new comers. He half expected for Y/N to come out and smack him for the unexpected entrance but when he turned into the living room he saw her knelt down by the floor vent.
“Y/N, you feeling alright?” Rick frowns walking over to her seeing her give a thumbs up with her good hand. “Alright…then what are you doing?”
Y/N moved out of the way to reveal that the wooden panel can open along with the vent lid. In case they needed to hide anything and that’s when Rick knew he could trust her with his suspicions on this place.
The first couple nights everybody was settling into the one house just for the beginning. Daryl kept to the window next to the crib that was given to them for Judith watching Y/N check on her every now and then.
“I’m gonna sleep outside. In case of anythin’”
Take the sleeping bag from the closet, I’ll get the lantern I found in the garage Y/N took her time to sign such to her brother even if all she wanted to do was scream at how frustrating it was to not be able to use her other hand.
Daryl wasn’t going to argue with the others and frankly, Y/N wasn’t going to let them argue with him either. It’s a new community and they had their fair share of fucked ones that no one can blame him for wanting to keep watch outside.
As the Dixons were getting settled or more so Y/N helping Daryl get settled outside. Everyone else was getting settled in the living room and finally turning in for the night.
“You look cozy” Carol smiles stepping out of the house seeing Daryl lay out his sleeping bag while Y/N turned the lantern off for those starting to go to bed inside given they turned the lights off. “How long are you going to sleep outside?”
“Until I better understand this place” Daryl took out one of his homemade cigarettes and before he found his lighter, Y/N had lit hers the second she saw him take a cig out. “Thanks”
“Smart that you’re doing such. But what we really need is our guns back” Carol states right as Rick stepped out in a whole new/old look that part of him doesn’t really like anymore. “Well hello there officer”
You clean up nice Y/N smiles signing to Rick watching him nervously rub the back of his neck trying his best to contain his happiness when she said such.
“Thanks…” Rick almost forgot why he stepped out to begin with and cleared his throat to bring himself back. “Thinkin’ we can start sleeping in our own homes”
“I’ll be holding the Dixons or at least Y/N while her brother camps outside” Carol laughs quietly in mind for the other residences. “But we need to get our guns back”
“I agree”
It won’t be that difficult Y/N chimes in being met with confused expressions. Deanna gave me a job in the pantry. Firmly believes she thinks since I don’t talk that that job would be less communicative on my end. People come in. Check out stuff. Don’t really need me to talk back
“This will be easier than I thought”
It was Daryl’s idea to continue this plan outside the walls of Alexandria the next day. To avoid anyone overhearing what they are saying. Rick left the community with Y/N given she took care of Judith in the morning and part of him didn’t want to miss any moment.
“Y/N doesn’t have to risk her position in its entirety. All she has to do is leave the latch open to the window and I’ll go in and out” Carol starts with. “Then she can remove their existence in the record to avoid suspicions”
“They’ll instantly go after Y/N if shit goes south”
I can take care of myself, D
“I don’t care. They’re ignorant and it takes a while to learn sign. Hell…Deanna might even think you’re faking if anyone gets caught”
“I won’t let that happen” Rick interrupts resting a hand on Y/N’s shoulder reassuringly. “Promise”
Oh she can’t help the butterflies just from a small touch.
Y/N beams when he did such and reassured her of her safety, but she can take care of herself when it gets too far. Even might cross her own boundaries for such. She brought her hand to rest on top of his squeezing it before letting it slide off as she left first to go do the job she was asked to do.
The next day was the party and not everyone wanted to go. Daryl of course didn’t and when he brought it up to Y/N, he half expected her to try and convince him. Instead she remained silent.
“You don’t have to go if you don’t want to” Daryl frowns nudging Y/N for her attention as she brushes him off. “Y/N…what happened—-“
I’m late for my shift. I have to go Y/N signs before finishing tying her boots and heading straight to the pantry.
Something was off…Daryl at first thought it would’ve been because of the plan regarding the pantry. Then went to the uncertainty of Alexandria…before he even thought about delving into the more personal.
“Carol” Daryl quickly stops her before she got far from the house. “Yea ever run into Y/N check on her for me, alright?”
Her face instantly went from happy into worry when he said that. “Why? What happened?”
“I don’t know. She won’t talk to me just. If it’s anythin’ let me know” Daryl sighs going inside the house leaving Carol to ponder on such while he decided to investigate her room of anything.
Daryl jumps the gun when it comes to these moments but why was it happening now? The last time was when Merle died.
The pantry is almost always quiet even with two people, but that’s mainly because only Y/N’s group knows how to sign to her while the rest of the Alexandrians just talk at her. She was given a notepad from Deanna’s husband Reg after she told him about their new special resident.
Guess she doesn’t even want to try…at first
“Y/N, I’m going to go for a couple of hours to help some of the older folk then I’ll relieve yea” Olivia smiles watching her nod as she flips through one of the books she brought from the house they were given. “Just holler if you need any-….Uhm.” She caught herself and it wasn’t the first time Y/N’s heard that or let alone witness someone become awkward immediately. “Just. I’ll be back in a few”
Y/N watches Olivia leave the pantry and immediately went to open the latch to the window but more specifically break it apparently. These houses may have not been used but that doesn’t mean they don’t wear out. She didn’t mean to and knew if someone caught on that they would pin it to a new comer. But this meant they can come and go freely during the night.
“Hey, Y/N”
The poor Dixon flinched to the words before turning to be met with the sheriff’s worried expression.
“Sorry I didn’t…you alright?”
Just jumpy. I’m fine Y/N frowns tossing the latch to the window into the bin as Rick noticed her hand with the broken fingers were now just taped together instead of a splint. He’s a bit relieved that she’s healing finally after their encounter with the claimers. Did you need something? She signed after snapping to get his eyes back to hers.
“Right. Uhm. Are you going to this thing tonight?”
Still thinking about it
“Right…well, I hope you do. I would—-The group would really appreciate it. As much as some of us still don’t trust this place, others are tryin’…”
After years of not speaking you tend to read body language more than what an average person would do and Y/N could just tell he wants her there…even if it’s not together. Just. There. But something was constricting Y/N’s thoughts and the pain she’s been feeling wanted to strike her down.
“You don’t have to…I know your brother ain’t going and it’s okay if—-“
I’ll go, but I don’t want to be alone Y/N admits as that sparked a smile on Rick’s face taking it as an opportunity even if the man is out of practice.
“We can go together…Yeah. I mean. You me…and Judith…and Carl”
A quiet giggle escaped Y/N as she smiles up at Rick couldn’t help the butterfly feelings.
I will meet you at yours before the party
Rick nods with a smile before leaving. He felt like he won a million dollars but also could’ve been a bit less awkward about it.
The moment Olivia returns to the pantry she noticed Y/N examining a few things as she thought the worse at first but then noticed she written a list on her notepad.
“I can help you find something” Olivia smiles extending her hand for Y/N to give her the notepad.
It was still a few hours before the party and Y/N made her way back to the house carrying a few things that caught her brother’s attention but he knew Carol was inside and he thought she wouldn’t want to be stressed even further by his million of questions.
Even if Carol had plenty of her own but she didn’t question since Y/N entered already asking things of her own.
Mixing bowl?
“Yeah, a small one?”
Y/N nods setting the supplies she took down on the counter as Carol set the bowl down for her seeing the variety.
“You making a salve? What happened?”
Nothing that hasn’t already happened Y/N frowns putting a little bit of everything in the bowl, being handed a spoon shortly.
“You know you can trust me with whatever this is for right? Kind of already made you leave the window open risking your position, the least I can do is keep a secret”
It’s not a secret from Daryl, and won’t be to others once I go to the party. I just. I don’t like looking at it She frowns finishing mixing the salve together as she used to have something in the old world that helped with the inflammation and the itching pain…
“You want help?”
Y/N looks up with a bit of a pleading look.
Carol waited patiently with the salve on her bed as Y/N got dressed in something to make it easier for her friend to see. That thing to be seen was the huge scar on Y/N’s chest when she finally stepped out of the bathroom after putting a tank top on.
“Woah…” Carol suddenly blurts out as she realizes how off putting that could’ve been quickly apologizing after. “Sorry. I’ve..seen my scars just. Wow I have questions.”
It’s not new news that each Dixon child has their fair share of physical abuse by someone that should’ve protected them since the second they were born. But the running trend of when one sibling leaves the abuse goes on the next...just continued.
Only thing was when they lost their mother to a house fire, they almost lost Y/N in the process.
If one asked Merle, he always thought Y/N became mute because of that trauma. Being trapped in the fire under a fallen dresser that crushed her chest cavity is the reason for the scar. But Merle is only half right about her muteness. Screaming for a while to no one coming until the fire department came will always be the running nightmare.
But if one asked Daryl how he thinks Y/N became mute. He’s the right one. Mental trauma manifests differently in people who’ve experienced something traumatic. The fire was the start of Y/N Dixon’s downward spiral. Next of kin was the father, who has a criminal record. This leads to the next Merle, who also has a criminal record. Then left Daryl but he was also just a kid. So social services took Y/N after her accident and she didn’t go back to her brothers until she was twelve. That time apart lead her to close in on herself. She didn’t talk to anybody and that became normal. It frustrated Merle and confused Daryl but they both were just happy to have their sister back once Merle got some of his shit together to take care of both his younger siblings. Y/N used to either write to communicate with her brothers or be physical with the punching or pointing. It was actually Daryl that suggested and found an ASL book in the city library. Y/N was the smartest Dixon and taught herself pretty quickly that lead to her helping Daryl learn. It was like teaching a brick anything when teaching Merle but he learned enough, besides Daryl translates for her when she signed to anyone who didn’t know.
The scar on her chest though, will always remind her of how this all started. Her vocal cords were scarred but she hasn’t spoken since forever.
She doesn’t know if she still has a voice.
“You don’t have to go to the party, Y/N” Carol frowns a few minutes before the party as Y/N signs to her that she promised Deanna and that she was going with Rick and his family. She won’t be alone. Just uncomfortable given Deanna picked her outfit being a dress with a low enough cut to show her scar. Least she’s wearing a cardigan over it to close it over.
“You come find me if anything alright?” Daryl was last to chime in one more thing before Y/N headed over to Rick’s next door as he couldn’t help but worry about what others gotta say.
I will. You know I will Y/N gave him a smile while leaving to find Rick waiting at the end of the steps with Judith in hand. Someone’s excited she smiles instantly covering her chest with her cardigan as she made it to his level.
“Guess I am.” Rick smiles watching as Judith leaned toward Y/N wanting her to hold her. “Think she is to but not for the party”
Y/N instantly takes Judith into her embrace smiling even more when holding the little one. Judith instantly lays against her getting comfortable which lead to the two finally going to the party and right off this random women came up to them mainly to swoon over the baby but to also plant some seeds…or water them.
How old is your daughter?
You two make a lovely couple
She looks so much like you
You look fantastic for someone who’s had a baby
The little one is very lucky to have you two as parents
Your wife is gorgeous
Y/N couldn’t correct them, and Rick didn’t seem to want to. She couldn’t help the blush to form on her cheeks as she went to sit next to Maggie while still holding the baby. The time apart lead to Y/N watching Rick talk with one of the Alexandrians. More specifically Jessie with her son Sam with her who gave him a stamp.
“They seem to be hitting it off, but nothing compared to what I’ve been hearing about you and Rick” Maggie smiles elbowing Y/N watching her try and hide her blush. “What? You both aren’t correcting people and he hasn’t stopped smiling since he came here with you…what’s stopping you from doing anything?”
I don’t want to replace…anyone Y/N admits as she held Judith thinking about Lori and Maggie knew exactly what she meant.
“But life goes on…you’re allowed to be happy”
It’s not too soon…? She frowns at Maggie who was going to ease her concerns when the two heard Sasha lash out. Which felt more like a reality check.
The silence grew in the room as Sasha stood there anxiously that Y/N handed Judith off to Maggie before going to her friend and leaving the party with her. It didn’t resume right away, and some part of Y/N didn’t want to leave…but her priority was always to take care of her family.
It wasn’t until much later that Rick went to check on Y/N and ask about how Sasha was doing. He half expected her to be asleep and inside but Y/N sat on the porch swing in comfortable clothing smiling warmly when Rick approached her.
“Shouldn’t have left yea at the party”
What do you mean?
“I don’t know. Seemed like I gave yea Judith so I could talk to people…”
Judith is great company. I’m never complaining Y/N smiles scooting over for Rick to join her on the swing. Besides. I haven’t been feeling that great all day…Sasha was my out with that party and I stayed with her until she was well enough to get some sleep
“I didn’t…make you feel like you had to go right? You didn’t have to” He frowns feeling he stepped over a line of some sorts but she knew she was going to go regardless. The only thing that made it easier to go was going with him.
The retired sheriff relaxed when he felt her hand gently take his. Rick squeezes her hand bringing back that smile of his.
“Can I admit somethin’?” Rick asks watching her nod as he brought his entire self to turn toward her. “I…Uh…fucking hell…I don’t think I can ever live without yea”
It was subtle at first
The way he looks at her waiting for her to look at him and give him that beautiful smile of hers
How she’s perfect with Judith and caring to Carl
The power she had to her always amazed him
Especially her smarts to help not only her but their family
Y/N is perfect to him, and always has been even when reality takes them all down most days.
He couldn’t help but close the space between the two, pressing his lips firmly against hers. Half expecting her to pull away but Y/N held his shirt for a moment keeping the kiss intact before parting.
“I hope that wasn’t too far…even if there’s much more I wanna do”
The smile that graces her features after such leads to her standing from the porch swing extending her hand for him to take.
Don’t wake anyone Y/N smiles even more making him smile just as much before following her inside the house.
As the next morning came…Y/N stretches her body sighing as she turns to the other side of her bed finding a note but no sheriff.
Had to check on Judith and go on rounds. I’ll be back later darling - R <3
The warm feeling in her chest grew as she held the note for a moment longer before getting dressed for the day.
The day led to a small crowd surrounding Rick in his enraged state over how blind the Alexandrians were. He was becoming too much and Y/N watched as Michonne drew closer and she stopped her quickly.
Let me
“If he hurts you, I’m taking over”
Deal Y/N frowns pushing past a few people and bringing herself closer to Rick who aimlessly waved his gun around.
Right before Rick could say anything more, he tensed to the hand resting on his shoulder as he turned to be met with Y/N’s beautiful E/C eyes. Her worried expression never faltered as she didn’t sign anything and he didn’t say a word. Something switched in him that when she held her hand out, he didn’t hesitate to hand over the gun and before he knew it. He was out cold. Y/N had done the same thing she did to Daryl when they first met and he was causing a ruckus. She pinched a nerve that knocked him out cold and pulled away letting Glenn and Michonne take care of the rest.
After being confronted by Michonne and Carol, Rick left the cell to go back to the house before the bonfire later that determines his residency in Alexandria. He stopped at the steps finding Y/N leaning against the railing.
“You’re mad aren’t you?”
No
Rick looks at her confused as he brought himself to stand beside her. Why not? He signs wanting this to be more private.
You did what you did for a reason. But what the Alexandrians don’t know is that there’s a much bigger threat than Rick Grimes who’s just trying to show that to them. Y/N frowns rubbing the back of her neck. Even if he did risk his position here
You knocked me out, didn’t you? Before it got worse
Yes, and before Michonne gave you a shiner She laughs sadly crossing her arms as Rick brought himself closer.
They might banish me
Going to have to go through me to enforce that and we both know what will happen if I’m crossed Y/N scoffs smacking his chest getting a smile out of him before leaving to talk to Maggie about the bonfire.
She’s sure of it.

“Wow, you look terrible,” You snickered, dropping your head back against the tree you leaned again.
Daryl scoffed, shrugging off his vest and slinging it over a low-hanging branch, “Gee, thanks.” He rolled his eyes and moved past you to place his crossbow down by the fire you had started.
Your eyes scanned over his body, checking it for any signs of injury, still worried about him despite your teasing, “No problems?” You asked.
Both of you knew what that was code for. Were there any biters?
The man shook his head back and forth, sinking down onto a fallen tree trunk and bracing his forearms on his knees, “Nah, perimeters clear.”
Unconsciously, your shoulders sagged slightly in relief as you nodded your head, “Good, good.”
A comfortable silence fell if you as you both stared at the dancing flames from opposite sides of the makeshift fireplace you had set up while Daryl had gone to do a surveillance sweep.
With a sigh, you allowed yourself to lower yourself onto your back, folding your hands over your stomach as you stared up at the starry night side.
After a moment, you heard some shuffling to your side and the man laid down beside you, copying your actions with the exception of his arms, that went under his head.
“How long have we been friends?” You asked randomly, breaking through the silence that had encompassed you.
“I dunno,” You could picture Daryl shrugging, “Fifteen- twenty years?” He guessed.
You let out a low whistle, “Has it really been that long?”
“Since high school? Yeah.” He confirmed.
A grin took over your features as you turned your head to face him, “I still don’t know how you graduated.”
He rolled his eyes, “Ha ha.” He deadpanned.
“Remember when we first met?” You asked with a small chuckle.
Your best friend's lips quirked up, “How could I forge’?” He asked, “Ya marched up to me on the firs’ day o’ school and yelled at me for bein’ an asshole… which I wasn’.”
“I beg to differ.”
The grin stayed strong on your features, “Then we got paired up as lab partners in science.”
“And ya kept on yellin’, this time for me ‘doin’ everythin’ wrong’. Even though I was completely right.” He continued.
“Sure, you were.” You hummed teasingly.
“A friendship for the ages.” He stated dramatically, sending you into a cackling laughter that he couldn’t help but join.
A quiet settled over the two of you for a moment as you thought it all over. The late night runs to the local diner. The shitty school football games under the stars. The old movie theater that looked one storm away from collapsing in on itself that you always snuck into because it was only a quarter to enter anyway.
“The world really has gone to shit, hasn’t it?” You asked quietly after a moment. It was a stupid question, you knew that. But you couldn’t stop it from climbing out of your throat and slipping through your lips.
“Yeah, yeah, it has.” Your best friend muttered from beside you.
You lulled your head to look at him, “But at least we have each other.” You whispered.
“At least we have each other.” He echoed quietly, staring up at the stars.

Promptober day 7 - “do you think it’s Halloween yet?”
Pairing - (s2)Carl grimes x fem!reader (platonic)
Warnings - none
Promptober ‘23 masterlist
Main masterlist
Taglist
A/n - both Carl and reader are 12 in this fic and there is nothing romantic about it just a cute conversation between 2 kids who survived the apocalypse, Glenn is like readers guardian (like how lee is to Clem in twdg or Joel is to Ellie in tlou)
Tumblr media
carl and I are sat in the grime's tent talking about what we miss from the old world. "I miss chicken nuggets" I whisper with a smile. he laughs "I miss...Halloween...do you think its Halloween yet?" he asks with his brows furrowed. I furrow my eyebrows too trying to calculate how long since it's been since the world had ended. the world ended in august, and it's been at least a few months since well that's what Glenn told me. "Maybe I think its October already" I reply I sit up onto my knees and pop my head out of the tent. "Lori, do you think its Halloween yet?" her brows furrowed as she looks up at me and carl who both have out heads popped out of the tent. "I don't know maybe, why do you ask?"
carl and I both giggle before popping our heads back into the tent. "Maybe I can get Glenn to sneak us some candy when he goes back to that pharmacy" I whisper with a smile. he nods "you should ask where is he?" carl asks, and I shrug "I dunno maybe our tent" I reply "go ask..go ask" I agree and quickly get out of the tent and run to Glenn and i's tent. he's sat near it in a fold out camping chair. "Glenn, Glenn!" I shout breathlessly as I stop in front of him. his brows furrow together "what is it did you get hurt? see a walker?" he asks worriedly. I shake my head and smile "can you get me and carl some candy when you go to that pharmacy again?" he laughs as he rolls his eyes playfully. "If they have any left" he says softly.
-
2 days later
Glenn had finally gone back to the pharmacy, so now I'm stuck waiting around for him to come back to the farm. he returns back to the farm in the afternoon. "Glenn!" I shout as he arrives back on the horse he had took. I run up to him and the horse as he gets off of it. he kneels down in front of me, and I whisper, "did you get it?" he chuckles and nods as he reaches into his bag and hands me two chocolate bars. I throw my arms around his shoulders hugging him. "Thank you Glenn" I whisper as he pats at my back lovingly. I pull away and immediately run towards where our groups tents are set up.
"Carl! Carl!" he's sat in his family's tent "look! look!" I say showing him the two chocolate bars. his eyes widened as I crawl into the tent. I hand him a bar and we both immediately open them.
"Where did you guys get those?" Lori asks as she spots both of us with the candy.
"Glenn!"

Not much Daryl in this one, sadly, but he will be in it much more next chapter!
Series Masterlist Official Masterlist
This one came out way quicker than the second and I’m sorry for that, but I am beginning to get into a regular posting times! So here it is!!
Tumblr media
Your eyes were forced open when you heard the loud pounding of a fist consistently colliding against your door.
You let out a groan as your senses began to kick in, the once blackness that you were seeing behind your eyelids was replaced with the bright light that shined through the window that was meant to be covered by your curtain but you had been growing even more tired since your visits with Daryl.
It had made sense. Normally you would be asleep before the second night shift, so around 11 pm, but now you couldn't fall asleep until around 3 am, sometimes even 4.
That paired with the times that you had to wake up each morning had given you a maximum of four hours a night. Then you had to work all day and repeat the cycle again and again.
You couldn't risk falling asleep before you met Daryl, knowing that he would starve that night, and that thought alone kept your mind racing all day.
You constantly wondered how he was doing at the hands of your father. You wondered if he was being beaten, even if the old bruises on his face had started to fade you knew it wasn't long until they would reappear again.
You wondered what else Dwight was forcing him to do. You couldn't really put anything past him.
You used to admire how kind he was to others and how kindly he would treat his wife, Sherry, and her sister, Tina. But ever since Tina had been killed when they had escaped the sanctuary over a month ago and he had faced the wrath of her father, he hadn't been the same.
You knew it was because of his wife. Sherry had offered to become your father's wife to spare Dwight's life.
You didn't agree with your father having multiple wives especially so soon after your mother's death. It had been just over two years and he was pretending she didn't exist. He was coercing women into being his wife, in hopes of filling the dark that was left after your mother had taken her own life.
You could see how their presence in his life wasn't providing in the way he had hoped it would. You could see it in his eyes.
He was miserable. So he was bringing pain onto other people to make himself feel better. You didn't agree with his ways of coping but it's not like you could change his mind. He was a grown man and could certainly make his own choices.
He knew where you stood and what he chose to do with that was up to him, you supposed. He knew you weren't a fan of his 'marital' status so he kept it as far away from you as possible. Making sure that he never showed affection to them around you, making sure they stayed out of your way. But that wasn't the issue. You did like his wives, they were kind to you. Always making sure you were okay. Never talking about your father around you.
You had felt like his wives were a majority of your closest friends. When you pushed back the fact that they were sleeping with your father.
You tugged the sheets off of your body roughly as you jumped to your feet after realizing that the knocking wasn't getting any quieter.
You pulled your shirt down from where it had been yanked up in your sleep from your turning as you walked towards the door before jerking it open, causing the knocker to stumble slightly as they fell forward, making it clear that they were leaning against the door as they waited for a response.
"Jesus," she spoke your name as she caught herself from falling to the hard ground. "Your dad wants you. Said you had something you wanted to talk to him about." Laura informed you as she looked at you with a blank face but you knew her facial features well enough from the two years you had known her to tell that she was confused about what you had to talk to your father about. You had always confided in her about the way you felt about your father.
The disappointment and frustration but also about how you missed the old times between your family. About how you missed your old father and how you missed the comfort your mother had brought you before she died.
She had also spoken about how she missed her parents as well and even though her situation wasn't remotely the same, she still understood what it felt like to be a younger girl who just wanted her parent's love and affection.
"Yeah, yeah...um where is he?" You asked as you ran a hand through your hair in an attempt to smooth out some of the tangles.
"In his room. You better get ready, he ain't got all day." Laura sent a nod your way before sending you a half smile, clearly as tired as you as she was sent to do more work around the sanctuary. She never seemed to have time to rest. She was constantly either at Negan's aid or on watch somewhere around the sanctuary.
"Sir, yes sir." You saluted.
"You wish I was a sir?" She asked with raised eyebrows.
"Nah, you're just fine to look at now." You smiled slyly.
"Jesus, you're just like your father." She shook her head with a smirk.
"Damn, Laura. You wound me. Seriously that was so hurtful." You half-joked as you wiped away imaginary tears as you turned your head away from her.
"I take that back, you're way better." She shrugged as she spoke the truth that everyone at the sanctuary thought. Though you had always assumed some of the saviours had befriended you because of Negan wasn't entirely true. Sure some did in hopes of earning extra points for themselves and their families, but most just genuinely thought that you were one of the good ones. That you could possibly be able to persuade your father to change his ways.
"Alright. I forgive you, Laur. Even if you started my day off with a fucking headache." You spoke as you rubbed your temple, your words earning a very 'unladylike' snort from Laura as she started to back away from your room and down the hallway.
"My pleasure, Miss. Smith." She saluted before she turned around and quickened her pace to her shift which she was surely late from, leaving you to stare at the hallway wall as you mentally prepared yourself for the conversation you were about to have with your father, knowing it could go two ways. Well, which was the unlikely scenario or, Awful which you were leaning towards.
And that's how you ended up here. Sat at the table with your father as he settled in his seat after having poured himself a small glass of bourbon.
You watched as Potter, a worker in the sanctuary, placed two plates of eggs, home fries and some ham on top of the table for you two. You sent a smile his way as he nodded at you and your father before turning to make his exit, but your father's voice stopped him.
"Oh, Mr. Potter..." Your father spoke in a sing-song voice as tapped his fork on the table.
"Yes, Negan?" He asked as he turned back to the pair of you. A trail of sweat hastily coming down his brow, as his anxious eyes flicked between you and your father in hopes of getting a read on your body language.
"I think you forgot something." He pointed to his empty cup of water before snapping his fingers as if the second after he spoke lasted an hour. "Today." He rolled his eyes as the man rushed over to pick up the pitcher of water and pour it into his cup.
"Would you like some as well, ?" He spoke your name as he turned to look at you. Your father's glass now filled with ice water.
"Of course, she wants some. What do you think, she wants to eat your dry ass food without having something to wash it down with." Your father let out a laugh as if it was the funniest thing in the world all while glaring the poor man down, who was practically shaking in his boots.
"No thank you, Potter." You managed to smile softly at him as if to calm him. Your body lowered down slightly as your body inadvertent shrank into yourself in embarrassment at how your father was treating the kind man.
Your demeanour didn't seem to put the man at ease as he still looked as though he was about to stroke out, which apparently was hilarious to your father as he let out a booming chuckle from deep in his throat, his rough and deep voice spoke from behind his pearly white teeth.
"Jesus, man. I'm just joking. It's just a jokey, joke. Holy fuck," he spoke your name, "did you see his fucking face? He looked like he was going to piss his pants." He laughed before looking at the floor as though he was looking to see if the older man had done just that.
"That will be all, Potter. Thank you." You looked away from your father to face the middle-aged man before nodding to the door, not quite able to hide your anger well, causing him to look to Negan for permission.
Your father watched you with amusement glimmering in his big brown eyes, clearly finding your annoyance entertaining, before he nodded, still looking at you as he spoke. "Do you need her to tell you again? Leave. Now." Without wasting a second he scurried out of the room, probably to go cry in the corner somewhere. Your father seemed to always have that effect on people.
"Did you really have to scare him away? I was gonna get him to cut up my meat." He laughed.
"You're a grown-ass man. I think you can do it yourself just fine." You narrowed your eyes at him, watching as his eyes widened slightly before they were amused again, a small laugh leaving his lips.
"You really are my kid, ain't ya."
You guys sat in silence for a minute. You glaring at him and him trying to hide the merriment in his eyes.
"If you've got something to say, baby, just spit it out." He said as he crossed his arms while leaning back in his seat, eyes studying your face.
"What is wrong with you?" You asked with anger clear in your voice as you shook your head.
"Well, sweetheart, I have a lot of things wrong with me so you're gonna have to be more specific."
"You know what I'm talking about, Dad. That. How you treat people." You scoffed at his attempt at humour, normally you would laugh at his stupid attempts at making you laugh but now, when he humiliated people for a good laugh, your blood would quite literally boil in your skin.
"I was just having a little fun. He doesn't mind." He dismissed as he laughed, shaking his head before he began using the fork he was still gripping to take a substantial bite of his over-easy eggs.
"It's not a 'little fun', Dad. You scared him half to death. Does it not make you feel bad when you treat people like shit?" You shook your head in disbelief.
"No, it doesn't. I'm in charge. Im not treating anyone like shit here. Do you see all that I do for these people? What I provide for them." His face grew annoyed at your words.
"Yeah, Dad. I do. But you can help keep these people safe without treating them like shit. You don't need to make them fear you to keep them sa-" He cut you off before you could finish your sentence but you could tell by his tone that you got your point across.
"They need to fear me to stay in line. That's what I do. I keep them in line. How else do you think we're still standing? If I become buddy, buddy with them they'll think they can get away with shit they just can't get away with."
"You can be a decent person and still have loyal followers. I mean, shit, how do you think half the groups still alive are operating?" You tried to mile your tone down as you began cutting up your ham.
"You mean the groups we're gonna take over? They won't be operating like that for long." He shook his head in dismissal before wiping away the yellow egg yolk that had dropped into his pink lips.
"But why can't you form alliances with other groups? Instead of controlling them?" You tried to reason.
"Look, hunny. I love you, okay? But I don't tell you how to lead your little posey so don't fucking tell me how to lead mine." He said angrily before taking hold of his glass of bourbon and gulping down all of its contents.
"You do realize you just called you and your people pretentious, right? I do think it fits, though." You snorted as you took a small bite of your scrambled eggs.
"What did you want to talk to me about? I have things I need to get done." He rubbed a hand over his face in annoyance.
"Oh sorry, I didn't know having a conversation with your daughter was such a burden." You shook your head as you began to stand up but we're stopped when your father grabbed your arm.
You looked over expecting to see a look of anger on your father's face but sat back down when all you saw was remorse for his words that were obviously taken out of context but they had hurt you nonetheless, as that was what he hated the most. Hurting you.
"You know what I meant. I love talking to you, you know that, don't act like you don't. Tell me what you want to talk about, baby. Please." He pulled his and away and picked up his fork, signalling for you to speak.
"What is that community called?" You asked as you picked up the pitcher of water, not missing the look your father sent you that practically said, 'You should have just gotten Potter to do that' but you just brushed it off, knowing you were more than capable of pouring your own cup of water.
"Who am I? Fucking Professor X? You're going to have to be more-"
"That new community. The one you took a prisoner from." You specified, know that was his next word.
"How the hell do you know about that?" He asked with slight anger. He had tried to keep you as far away from his duties as much as he possibly could.
He had constantly restricted you from leaving the sanctuary in hopes of keeping you alive and blissfully unaware of his actions, knowing that he had shaped his men well enough that they knew they needed to die for you.
"Everyone knows about it. You don't exactly keep it under wraps. I can hear you boost about it from my room. Your voice travels." You studied him, wanting to make sure he wasn't going to try and keep something from you.
"Huh, so I've been told." He shrugged as he then began to study you, checking to see if he could notice any alternative motives. You could only hope he didn't.
"So?"
"Why do you wanna know anyway?" He questioned.
"I'm just curious. Sick of the gossip and rumours, just want to know what's going on. That's all." You attempted to play it off, hoping he didn't notice the slight quiver in your voice.
"I hate gossipers too. They seem to be everywhere, don't they." He replied as he squirted some ketchup onto his cooling grilled potatoes.
"Yeah, they do... so...?" You pressed, hoping he would stop beating around the bush and just reveal what you were wanting to know.
"Alexandria. It's a nice place but the people make it a fucking shit hole, their leader, Rick, is a joke. A fucking pussy if I've ever known one. Hell, I bet Potter could take him in a fight. Truly it's embarrassing." He ranted as he rolled his eyes, his fork scraping against his plate as if the sheer thought of Daryl's leader, Rick, had brought him so much rage that he had to take it out on the plate.
"So is there a lot of people there?" You asked, trying to sound casual.
"Two-hundred and thirty-four." He revealed causing her to tense.
"So we have more." It was a statement rather than a question.
"By a landslide, baby. We have five hundred and four through all of our outposts. In any way, we outrank them. You know what's hilarious? Their leader is so hellbent on killing me even though he knows my people could wipe his people out in a blink of an eye. Everything with that guy is a dick-measuring contest. But he should know by now that he's not gonna win in that department." He laughed once again forgetting that his daughter was sitting across from him.
Your eyes rolled as he once again found a way to boost about himself.
"Jesus, your daughter is right here!" You exclaimed as you rolled your eyes. Sometimes he was such a child, you thought. If your mother was here she would beat him with her shoe.
"Sorry, sorry. But hey, I want to show you something." He said as he wiped his mouth with a cotton napkin, before placing it on top of his now empty plate, the streaks of ketchup and yellow remained.
Your food on the other hand was still half full, but you knew your father would have somebody wrap it up for you to eat tomorrow as he knew that it took you at least an hour after waking up to be able to eat.
As you guys walked you caught sight of a man with long dark hair and a broad frame hunched over a mop. You didn't clue in until you saw Dwight roughly grab the man to make him continue his moping a little way ahead.
It was Daryl.
You didn't have much time to react before your father was speaking again, drawing their attention.
"Dwighty boy, what do we have here?" Your father said as he stopped beside Dwight, smirking down at Daryl as he watched him silently continue his task, his head angled downward.
"Just Daryl, doing what he's told," Dwight spoke with a slight smile while watching Daryl.
Your father let out a booming laugh and you could see Daryl pause his movements for a moment having to mentally restrain himself from physically pouncing on him.
You knew if he were to break loose you couldn't really blame him. Your father had put him through hell, but that's what he was. Your father. You couldn't let anything thing happen to him, no matter how much you understood how he was feeling.
"You missed a spot." Your father said as he watched the slightly shorter man conceal his anger with delight, clearly enjoying the inner battle that was going on inside of him. Your father kept his eyes on Daryl as he tipped his bourbon bottle on the floor, the dark liquor mashed with the newly clean floor. The half-drunken bottle now sized down a noticeable amount, he laughed again before he shoved the bottle into Dwight's chest. "Here, buddy. You deserve it." Your father tore his eyes away from Daryl before looking up at you, noticing the beyond-dirty look you were sending his way.
"Thanks, boss." Dwight nodded as he clutched the bottle.
"Get back to work, you mutt." Your father smiled at Daryl but you could tell it was forced as he roughly patted his shoulder in a condescending way before making his way back over to you, sensing your unease about what he was doing.
He nodded at you to follow him before he began to stroll back down the hallway. You followed but your eyes were still trained on Daryl.
Your heart pounded in your chest when he turned his head slightly, watching Negan go before his eyes found you.
They narrowed once he caught sight of you. You couldn't quite read the look that took over his emotionless face but you knew he didn't feel joy in seeing you with Negan.
You saw flashes of rage, confusion and a flash of fear?
Your eyes were locked on each other before Dwight harshly shoved Daryl back to his task which he complied with but at a slower pace, as if his mind was processing the fact that he had seen you outside of his cell with Negan of all people.
You waited a moment before you turned back around, and in that moment you saw Dwight studying the two of you in confusion.
You hurriedly turned forward to look at your father's back as you turned the corner finally making your way into the kitchen. The one you had found yourself in more often than ever.
"Ta-da," your father said in an overdramatic voice, a wide smile on his face as he waved a hand towards a big a machine that was shaking as it operated, the small, shiny window was wet with condensation.
"Holy-shit! Is that what I think it is?" You exclaimed in an excited tone as you practically hopped over to the machine in pure astonishment.
"Well, I sure as shit hope I didn't have seven of my men working themselves into the ground carrying this piece of shit back here all for it not to be the fucking ice cream machine that I've been askin' for, for a fuckin' year?" He spoke as you leaned back slightly as if to amplify his words.
You let out a yell of excitement as you ran into your father's arms, his arms wrapping around your upper back as you tucked your head into his chest. You could feel his smile as he rested his forehead on top of your scalp.
It was moments like these that you missed. The pure moments of a father and daughter showing care for one another. Sure you were still angry with him for what he did to Daryl just minutes ago and for all the bad he was doing, but you couldn't spoil this moment.
The moment that your inner child craved to have.
The moment you were robbed of one too many times.
You wondered if the sadness could be shown in your eyes. The longing for the love of your parents.
You knew that Laura could see it. Just as you could see your sadness as well. It was like an understanding for the two of you. You both didn't get to experience much love from your parents, her from way before the outbreak and you, after.
You knew that your mother wasn't at fault for not being there for you. You knew that if she could be here, she would. That's just who she was. She would never miss any of your important achievements and even your minor ones, she always made sure to show up, no matter how much shit she would get at work. She would take all the yelling from her boss just to see your smile when you noticed she was there.
Your father tried his hardest to be there but most of the time something else was always more important. You were always left having to deal with his half-ass excuses as to why he couldn't show up; only to find out that he was too busy fucking your godmother aka your mother's best friend.
You weren't sure how your mother could forgive him after all the stress he had caused her in the early stages of her cancer, but you knew it was most likely because of how much she loved him.
You had never quite seen someone treat their significant other as well as your father did when he found out about your mother's diagnosis.
"Thank you, thank you, thank you!" You chanted pulling away from your father to look at the grey and blue machine again causing your father to laugh at you, even though he was feeling elated at the fact that you had enjoyed his little present.
"So, you want to take it for a spin?" Negan asked with a grin, knowing that he was gonna get a taste of the treat that he had also been craving.
"Do Andie and Ben end up together in 'How to lose a guy in 10 days?' " You asked with a raised eyebrow, a smile on your face.
"Uh, I don't know, do they?" He asked in confusion, not quite realizing the reference.
"Yes!" You exclaimed before rushing to the ice cream machine, your father hot on your tail.

Special
Daryl Dixon x Grimes! Autistic!Reader/platonic relationship
Warnings: none
Tumblr media
You are special, that’s at least what dad and mom called you. They never meant it in a hurtful way, they really found you as a gift. You always saw the good in the world even after the world went to shit. You still saw the good.
Throughout your time with the group, even after the prison and Alexandria you have always found the good in people, hell you even tried to reason with Negan when you met him, which caused you a lot of emotional damage; but still somehow didn’t break your spirits.
If anyone wanted you to be protected it would be your dad, Rick Grimes, but of course with your spirits being so innocent; it also captured the attention of another person; an archer for that matter.
Daryl Dixon found it quite hard to keep you away from him, he wasn’t a people person, but you seemed to just latch onto him, and always be around him. He just found out you longed for father figures and he just happened to be one you picked.
Rick told him, he doesn’t know why you choose men who seem like they would be a safety for you to become a father figure but you do so anyways. Rick doesn’t mind it at all, he’s more then happy you find comfort in more people then just him.
There would be times when you’d be over excited or just over nervous and have yourself not being able to stop moving, you’d either be swaying back and forth or twiddling with your shirt; or just moving your hands around a lot. You seemed to always do that; Daryl watched you closely just to understand you more.
You would never like large crowds, lots of loud noises, textures as well; you weren’t fond of some things. One thing though you found comfort in was Daryl’s poncho; for some reason not of being known to him, you loved the feeling of it and would often fiddle with it when you were overstimulated.
Daryl knew when you were overstimulated and he would often take you outside of the house in Alexandria or just if you two were on a run, he would stop and let you calm down. He would always have something handy for you, either his poncho or if it wasn’t in hand, he would hold you and let you recollect your thoughts and sometimes he’d even place his gloved hands over your ears to keep you from hearing lots of different noises.
Daryl always seemed to know what to do, he would do anything for you if he could, you were like a daughter to him. He knew he would protect you no matter what.
Daryl once during the party at Alexandria in the beginning; he was outside during it and saw you walking out; you seemed frantic. He came to you and asked you what was the matter; realizing the noise and buster of the party must have triggered you, he sat you against a tree outside with him and held you while you fiddled with his poncho and matched your breathing with his. He could never tell why you found such comfort in him but you did. He would make sure the world knew you were under the safety of Daryl Dixon as well.
Daryl found it quite interesting when he realized you could hear sounds he couldn’t even hear, the problem with your over sensitivity to things, came your crazy hearing. He of course could hear well because he grew up a hunter, but you? You could hear the smallest things; saved his ass quite a bit. The only issue with your hearing is that it caused you to be overstimulated and overwhelmed a lot easier, especially when there’s lots of different noises. When there’s too much going on your brain can’t process it and just kind of reboots, it’s hard becuase you’ll just blank out and have your ears pop and ring until you hear everything again.
Daryl would always try to take you to places where there wouldn’t be lots of noise. Runs were a favorite for you two, mostly because it was quiet and it was just you two, a few walkers and the forest beyond.
All I can say is Daryl protecting and letting an autistic young adult be so close to him is indeed a rare sight but once you see his love and care for that person; no one would stand in his way.
