A Few Questions With Chad Hayduk
Tumblr media
Chad Hayduk -  Co-Founder and Creative Director of Three Custom Color Specialists |  www.threecustom.com
What inspires you right now? (and why) I am inspired by color in my travels.  The travel bug hit me at a very early age and am in awe of other cultures and their uses of color in art, architecture, food, fashion, history, nature and everyday life.   I am very thankful have to learned a lot from every single place I have visited and the colors that I observed swirl in my head and help me with my creations.  Lately, I have been inspired by off-beat color combinations and how light affects new shimmers that are being introduced.
Who are three of the biggest influences in your career? (and how have they effected your career) My three biggest influences are:
Roy Karrell, the founder of Visage Beaute Cosmetics.  He gave me my start in the beauty business at the age of 17 at Bergdorf Goodman custom blending, saw I had a talent and eye for color and pushed me to succeed.
Tom Brumberger, SPFX makeup artist.  When I was interested in getting into film and video, he showed me that I was capable of things I never dreamed I could do and to perservere and problem solve.
Both of these men are sadly not with us any longer, but I feel their presence every single day with all that I do.  I can't thank them enough for the impact they have had on my career.
My "Hugo-Man of 1000 Face's Doll!  I always wanted a "Barbie Head" as a kid, but this was the closest I could get.  I practiced my prosthetic and beauty makeup on him (sometimes mixing both!) at the age of 8 and I never looked back.
Can you tell us about a defining moment in your career? One that made you realize this was what you were going to do with the rest of your life.   I think in the back of my mind, I always knew I wanted to do makeup- again, back to my Hugo- Man of 1000 Faces Doll.  My first real crack at it was doing makeup for all my school plays.  I didn't know what I was doing, but as they say... practice makes perfect.  I was in a play in the second grade where I played a frog.  I got to paint myself green.  I wish to this day, I had a picture! This set everything in motion for me.  It just snowballed from there.
What advice would you give to a makeup artist or hair stylist starting out in the industry? To succeed in any career, you need to have passion and drive as well as talent. If your heart isn't in it, then this industry might not be for you. Absorb everything that you can- be a sponge; the more knowledge you have, the better off you will be.  Learn from your mistakes- I encourage you to PLAY.  Remember.. its makeup- it comes off!
What is more important to you the work (a makeup artist or hair stylists artistic skill) or the artist (the person themselves - personality, professionalism) Honestly, I think its both.  They work in tandem to make a successful artist and business person.  Without one, you can't possible have the other!
What is the key to a successful work-life balance? We all work like dogs, but you MUST make time for yourself...for your health and well-being  You need to step back and reflect.  Whether that be taking a vacation, getting enough sleep or spending time with loved ones/friends.  I own my own business and I often feel as if I am being pulled in all directions.  I have to remember to breathe and focus in order to get done what needs to be done. I also am not only married to my business but also my business partner.  We depend on each other in so many ways and I can always count on him to get me in line.  Thank you, Scott!
What are you most excited about right now? I am excited about all the excitement that this crazy journey called makeup has become.  It was a very small business when I started  30 years ago- there weren't that many of us!   With the world being such a small place,  the international interest in our field has made our industry more accessible to all.  I have had the opportunity to work with many of the most amazing people I have met throughout the years that have encouraged and mentored me.  I am in awe of what this industry has become and what will happen next!

A Few Questions With Leslie Christin
Tumblr media
Leslie Christin - CARA Cosmetics International founder | www.caracosmetics.com
What inspires you right now? (and why) People, Places and Color are my passion. I find inspiration through travel, cultures and light to design my makeup collections. My clients and students inspire me to teach, share and help them grow their skills.
Who are three of the biggest influences in your career? (and how have they effected your career) The first influence was my grandmother, she was a big support for my freelance career and with her help I had the freedom of time and finances to pursue my artistry. The second influence was an assistant director I met while working in a salon as a shampoo assistant. I accidentally dropped a bottle of shampoo on her head and then I rinse her hair and the hose slipped out of my hands and hosed her down! After I dried her hair she looked at me and said- “I have someone you need to meet” She introduced me to Roxie her makeup artist. My third influence was Roxie, a makeup artist that introduced me to the world of freelancing. She took me under her wing and showed me everything she knew, with passion, dedication and as a true friend. I hope everyone finds a Roxie in their lifetime, to introduce them to a lifetime career in makeup as I have had.
Can you tell us about a defining moment in your career? One that made you realize this was what you were going to do with the rest of your life. I am one of the fortunate people that I knew I wanted to do makeup at a very young age. All through high school I would do my friends makeup and after moving from Spain to the U.S. I enrolled into cosmetology school. One of the students in my class was a lady from Germany that had trained at the Kryolan Institute and would offer us classes in her home after school. I believe this moment was, when I saw her work and the inspiration she showed us, that this was the career for me.
What advice would you give to a makeup artist or hair stylist starting out in the industry? Learn everyday - Work not for what you’re paid, but for your future - Find a Mentor – Share your skills
What is more important to you the work (a makeup artist or hair stylists artistic skill) or the artist (the person themselves - personality, professionalism) To be an amazing artist, talent, creativity and skill are often innate and with training and experience it flourishes and develops.  I believe that success is personal, and each person needs to find their passion and love their true self. I have worked with some talented artists that lacked kindness, professionalism and camaraderie, and those are the ones I chose to never work with again.
What is the key to a successful work-life balance? Understanding what is important to you, managing your time to accomplish what you want and having the people and prosperity to support your life.
What are you most excited about right now? I am very excited about launching a new collection of makeup that will be very inspirational and innovative later this year. Sharing education, artistry and making the world a more beautiful place!

A Few Questions With Stephanie Flor
Tumblr media
Stephanie Flor - Makeup Artist and founder of Around The World Beauty | www.aroundtheworldbeauty.org
What inspires you right now? (and why) What inspire me are books, stories of people living their best life, and the beauty of small towns with rich culture. I’m inspired by women in their 80’s that talk about their once true love and the store owners who work at the front door of their businesses. I’m inspired by the light in a room and YouTube videos of young influencers sharing their secrets to success. I’m inspired by music that has no words, but vibrations that make you feel something. I’m inspired by business entrepreneurs with a dream. Why? I’m inspired by all of it because it makes me feel like its possible for me to be successful, it makes the dreams attainable, and gets my mind in a abundance state. I get inspired by so many things around me because it makes me feel like all is possible; all is created from an idea from someone just like me.
Who are three of the biggest influences in your career? (and how have they effected your career) My Universe, who always lets me know I’m on the right path, brings patience and realization on a daily basis. My Brother is a big influence on me because he’s my best friend and I push forward knowing I have to set the example for his greatest journey. He and I are on the same journey of dreamers. I can’t say I have one artist in mind, but I have the word Artists- Artists that I’ve assisted and worked with. I learned my biggest lesson working under artists like Matin, Brigitte Reiss Anderson, and many others. They should me what professionalism was, and true artistry. I’m so honored to have been raised under great makeup artists to help me truly be my best. My career has been 9 years in the making.
Artists like James Vincent who constantly give back, always humble at heart. I’m inspired by artists like that.
Can you tell us about a defining moment in your career? One that made you realize this was what you were going to do with the rest of your life. It was in Ecuador on the Cuyabeno an Amazon Reserve. It was a night on a small boat staring at the stars that it hit me!! I wanted to bring the beauty of my world to the industry. Everyone should experience travel and the cultural beauty to inspire their work, and lives. I love doing makeup, it’s my world, but I love to be inspired and I want everyone to experience the possibilities of their biggest adventure. What advice would you give to a makeup artist or hair stylist starting out in the industry? Surround yourself with people you want to be like. Grow with a team; it’s the most powerful tool you can take on. Help others make their dreams come true as you will see the fruition of your good deeds.
What is more important to you the work (a makeup artist or hair stylists artistic skill) or the artist (the person themselves - personality, professionalism) I think it’s a balance of both. I admire artists that have a quiet personality and very unapproachable vibe but whose work is OFF THE CHARTS but I’m an artists with more personality and great work. I could never be the mean don’t talk to me bitch face artists because its not who I am. There is different work for different artists. It’s just about who you are. I think personality is important but there’s plenty of people who don’t have one and get pretty far as they attract those who also don't have a personality and make a happy family :) People want to be around people they like… What is the key to a successful work-life balance? A planner to write down all your things to do. Making a conscious effort to dedicate certain amount of time to life and work.
What are you most excited about right now? There are so many great things coming my way as a Makeup Artist. What Im most excited is combining my two worlds of beauty and travel and bringing it to a larger scale in my Latina market. I’m producing videos, and more travel web-series focused on Latina beauty roots in 2015.
