She's from Paris circa1898 (ish), perhaps only worn a few times before coming to live with me. Did she dine at Maxim's, or drink champagne at the Moulin Rouge? There's got to be a story behind all the sparkle! The skirt's lining is lost, and her bodice insides are a bit shatter-y. I did not love this project at the beginning!! But I found my groove. I sat down to weave with the expectation of using two dark purple yarns that match my new purple gloves. I’m making the scarf to go with those gloves, after all. Joke is on me because I can NOT, for the life of me, weave without changing colors and throwing in a little of this and that... so I will not be making a solid color scarf. I don’t know why I even thought I could. Silly silly me! I am liking it much more now that I’ve got the hang of how to weave with this much dark purple. I think it will look fantastic with my green coat and dark purple hat. Allll the colors! The term that immediately invokes dancing, mini-skirted teenagers was coined by editor Diana Vreeland to describe the rise of young people as fashion authorities in the #1960s. It was a period that witnessed the rise of a new generation of British ready-to-wear designers who set the tone for fashion, ousting Paris from its thrown and redefining the very nature of how fashion was made, consumed and worn. A popular narrative perhaps, but one that is not entirely true as curator Colleen Hill reveals in her new exhibition Paris Refashioned, 1957-1968 @museumatfit. Hill positions Parisian designers at the forefront of the 1960s fashion ready-to-wear revolution, both as innovators and tastemakers.
