well it took some doing but i have a nice little library of books and papers on the new ereader. i was getting very impatient with her and beginning to suspect faulty storage, bc every time i wanted to import all the files (a little under 200) she would panic, install about 2/3 of them seemingly at random, and refuse to take the rest...
rn my conclusion is less "faulty storage" and more "you have 1GB of ram and poorly optimized software and get really scared when you see a big task" so i imported them in lots of 50 and voila!

Oh Hey, Some Delisted Sonic Games

If there's one thing that anyone knows about the Sonic franchise, it's that the games have been up and down since 2006. On one hand you get games like generations and colors, on the other you get Boom and Shadow the Hedgehog, that's also their nose picking hand. There's even a name for this era, fans call it the Sonic Dark Age, and wouldn't you know it, some of these games have been delisted by Sega. A list of Sonic games that can only be played with either the original hardware, or good old piracy for those less legally inclined.
Quick disclaimer; for some reason there are a bunch of spin offs lumped into this era, racing games for example. Since they're not mainstream titles, they won't be included. There is also a lot of fan discourse as to when the dark age ends. It ranges from anywhere between 2009 to today. I'm sure I'll touch on those at some point in the future.
It goes without saying that the dark age was kicked off with the release of Sonic 06, infamous for being glitchy, not well optimized, and having a strange story with clashing character designs. It's very strange seeing proportional human designs alongside Sonic and friends. I could go on beating this dead horse, but I can't do much with a grease stain that's now a permanent mark on the floor. All we need to know is that it is one of the games Sega delisted as part of some spring cleaning back in 2010.
Two others were The Secret Rings, and The Black Knight, two games that were originally a part of a story book trilogy that put the characters in story book settings. The third game was cancelled due to poor reception and sales of the previous two, looking through the reviews, there were a lot of control issues.
Sonic Unleashed has recently had a resurgence in popularity, but at the time it didn't get much love due to the were-hog parts clashing heavily with the regular Sonic levels. It also had the typical issue of games back then wanting to be God of War.
Finally there's Sonic Boom, a game that was supposed to be the head of a multi media movement for the franchise. It was hyped up with all the tie ins. There were of course the toys, the comics and the show were very well received, and then the game came out on WiiU and it was was buggy, poorly written, poorly animated, and on a platform that was hemorrhaging money for Nintendo. The story behind how this game became the way it is is an epic saga full of miscommunication, deadlines, and fickle minds. It's honestly a miracle this game was even released. It was only released on WiiU and support for the console ended just this past April, so unless you have one of Nintendo's worst selling consoles, you're out of luck.
Most of the games listed above have been in Sega's shame corner for some time now, rereleases are unlikely except for maybe Unleashed. Their appeal is mostly for the novelty of playing a bad game, which is always a fun idea if you wanna see how much a game can struggle.
Now of course little old me wouldn't endorse piracy, I would never remind everyone how easy it is to download an emulator. While also reminding them to keep their anti viral software and computer up to date. You wouldn't download a car after all right?

When for 8-ish hours you're tossing and turning in bed, phasing in and out of sleeping, unable to truly wake up because your sense of reality has become so delusioned while trying to sleep that regardless of if you're briefly awake or asleep, your *active* consciousness is overwhelmed with either a certain mantra, or objective, or reference/memory, compelling you to keep diving back into the dream because you "have something that must be accomplished" before you're "allowed" to properly wake up, and because it's using your *active* conscious thoughts even while asleep, like a poorly optimized piece of software lagging the entire system, you end up feeling more stressed and/or less rested upon finally waking than when you fell asleep.
What the fuck is the name of this?
This keeps happening.
I need it to have a name so I can gain power over it, and ideally shut it down when it threatens to pull me in again.

The UK's leading combat airlines and the Ministry of Defense conducted research with leading scientists in machine learning, artificial intelligence, data science and computing to support software development for a next-generation jet fighter.
Tempest will be part of the UK's future combat air system (FCAS) and was designed to be a supersonic poaching equipped with pioneering technologies, including integrated state-of-the-art detection and protection capabilities. These capabilities will be provided, in part, by millions of lines of code in aircraft, with many more lines of code also present in ground systems. This means that Tempest's software needs to be more robust and resilient than that of its potential opponents.
The collaboration provided valuable information about the software requirements, design, delivery, operation, speed of updates and maintenance for both the fighter and the training systems that pilots and maintainers will use to operate and support the aircraft.

Outsmart Insight, a deep technology intelligence company, and Oxford Creativity, a group that offers a systematic approach to innovation and creative problem solving, have conducted targeted research with scientists, engineers and academics. Honestly what makes me feel this more is the death of smackjeeves. Like homestuck had its plot issues but artistically it was so varied that it did push the nature of what digital comics on the web could be, other comic hosting sites and collectives were around and i remember people talking about comics a lot with fan content leading to new ones. Paranatural I found from when the collab crew (biggest homestuck VA group at the time) which lead to discovering hiveworks and even more comics on there. Comics would crop up on tumblr and deviantart with mirror links to personal webpages or Smackjeeves pages. Fan content for comics you’d never heard of were everywhere and people would discuss comics that had small followings and personal sites that you’d just find and get into and it was great. It wasn’t just homestuck pushing the medium but it marked an era where comics were a big thing that could be found online and would get really popular in a way you don’t really see as much today.
Now its all on webtoon where every comic is formatted optimally for a small phone that encourages the same scrolling you do on every other social app. Smackjeeves is dead. I don’t see people talk about comic fury at all. Webcomics outside of webtoon and MAYBE tapastic are niche at best. I’m sure tapastic would be more popular if its app wasn’t the most poorly optimized reading software I’ve had the displeasure of downloading. This isn’t to say there aren’t bad webcomics on either phone app, but because it has the same algorithmic content farm style of presentation you see with stuff like youtube, it really does just kill the fun of finding a comic since it will feed you all the really popular ones that the computer says is good first before it shows you anything new or interesting.
As someone who grew up with not just homestuck but that big boom of online comics during the early 2010s and still keeps up with comics in a big bookmark list, it really does suck that it’s been reduced to this state. If you want something to break out of that, give Comic Fury and Hiveworks a browse for something more interesting. The first is a spiritual successor to Smackjeeves in that it hosts comics for free with some degree of webpage customization. The second is a publishing site with so so many comics that I have been coming back to since 2014 or so with so many good reads. I’d give a list of my current reads that aren’t on just those sites, but this post is long enough and that bookmark page is full of as many living comics as it is dead links. Shit sucks and the popular stuff looks the same, but art will never die.
People don't like to admit it bcs cringe or w/e but Homestuck really did revolutionize the webcomic as a storytelling medium and I am endlessly frustrated that before webcomic artists could really stretch our legs fucking webtoonz swooped in, set a new, more restrictive standard, and then monetized and monopolized the ever living fuck out of the concept of The Webcomic until it drove away anyone who couldn't be a professional quality manga artist for free, and now the only webcomics that actually feel like spiritual successors to Homestuck are so obscure they're basically cult classics that you have to beg people to read.
Like it's just so wild to be in high school and see Homestuck be like "we're using like fifteen different artistic mediums to tell this story bcs we can" and be really fucking inspired by that, only to grow up and see basically every webcomic ever have to conform to One Single Standard or fucking perish.
