The Mammoth Family are in my BUBBLE. Over one year, I’ve been visiting my favorite La Brea Tar Pits and documenting every time I walk though and pay my respects. Ever since we have been in isolation, and all we were allowed was to take walks, they were on my route. THE GARDEN OF EARTHLY DELIGHTS! I did this drawing in one inspired sitting at @thelabreatarpits this Sunday. The original Hieronymus Bosch painting was always an inspiration to me, and I wanted to draw my version of it with Bosko by my side. I never thought I would finish the piece, but it was such a beautiful day, I got lost in the pages. The first got me in serious trouble with the New York Times. Short version of the story is my 1st big job was getting the cover of The @nytimes Book Review, where I decided to draw in a detail of Earthly Delights in one of the cover panels. One panel represented Art, so I drew details of paintings that meant something to me. The art director Steve Heller asked what that was. I told him it was “Fine Art.” He asked what it was specifically, and I said a flower sticking out of a man’s ass, but it’s in Bosch’s painting, it’s Fine Art. Steve then told me that when Bosch does it, it’s Fine Art. When I do it, it’s a flower sticking out of a man’s ass. I need to take it out. 20 years later, I had my exhibition in NYC titled The Garden of Unearthly Delights. This time I had a painting with that subject matter, and this time it was Fine Art.
