Finished! I went into this one pretty blind on Kingsolver's name alone, and it was pretty good! Probably not my fave of hers so far, Harrison Shepherd is a bit too passive of a main character for my tastes, and while I found the parts taking place in Mexico absolutely captivating, the ending felt a little hurried and rushed and not handled with near as much care and passion. I liked a lot of what it was doing, even if it wasn't anywhere near the powerhouse The Poisonwood Bible is. #reading #bibliophile #books #thelacuna #barbarakingsolver https://www.instagram.com/p/CWyJWvPlWk-/?utm_medium=tumblr

August #reading - Got two #books as gifts... #losangelesyouaintthatfarfromhell from my friend @david.lambert.9843499 - after discovering he was a published poet and asking where I can obtain a copy of this. It’s very good and includes an introduction by #benjaminzephaniah The second gift, which I’ve just started was #makesomespace by #emmawarren - sent to me about a week ago by @upsideyourmind - it’s a very inspiring read about venue and recording studio #totalrefreshmentcentre in #hackney And finally I was lent #thelacuna by #barbarakingsolver - a fictional account of an author in 30s and 40s Mexico and the USA interspersed with real-life characters and events - for a time the narrator lives and works with #fridakahlo #diegorivera and #trotksy - I don’t often read fiction, but enjoyed this. https://www.instagram.com/p/CEyecKQJ7jA/?igshid=xmnwfehp74su

Becoming Trotsky
For forty-three years of my thinking life I have been a revolutionary; for forty-three of those years I fought under the banner of Marxism. If I had to start all over again, I would of course try to avoid this or that error, but the general course of my life would remain unchanged. I will die a proletarian revolutionist. My faith in the communist future of mankind is firmer today than it was in the days of my youth. Natalya has just some up from the courtyard and opened my window so the air may come in. I can see a wide strip of green grass along the wall, the pale blue sky above and sunlight on everything. Life is beautiful. Let the future generations cleanse it of all evil, oppression and violence, and enjoy it to the full. The Lacuna, Barbara Kingsolver
