I really like how they've set up Lydia's desire to be needed and her offers of friendship and love being rejecter by those around her (first Lizzie, now Mary). Actually I like how they've established all of the characters with depth and flaws, particularly Lizzie being full of pride and prejudice (not making a pun on the title, the title is meant to reflect both Lizzie and Darcy's pride and prejudices and how they overcome them)

Lizzie Bennet Diaries Ep. 78

I can't believe how well this scene translated. I remember this scene in the book really well. Mr. Darcy has just arrived extremely suddenly and unexpectedly, but hadn't initially had the longest conversation. Now, Lizzie and Mr. and Mrs. Gardiner are taking a walk in the woods on the Pemberly estate, having just been received and treated very kindly by Mr. Darcy's servants. The servants all have high praise for Mr. and Miss Darcy. 

Mr. Darcy approaches them on the path, and Lizzie is very nervous about seeing him again and considers bolting. When they meet, Mr. Darcy acts extremely civil, exchanging pleasantries and seems determined for this interaction to go well. At the end, he mentions that he would like Lizzie to meet his sister, Georgiana. Lizzie is very impressed by all of this, though still a little wary. However, since Lizzie is in the process of forming a good opinion of Darcy, she receives the attention as best she can, though perhaps a little clumsily. Later, Lizzie and Darcy walk alone, and Darcy acknowledges that he wasn't not supposed to have arrived until the next day, but had some business with his steward.

In the Lizzie Bennet Diaries, Lizzie has been at Pemberly Digital for about a week, settling in and shadowing the company. She is filming before going to meet Dr. Gardiner for dinner, who is obviously the Gardiners of Pride and Prejudice. Lizzie starts out by saying that she likes Gigi, whom she already met. At the point, Gigi rushes in and acts very suspicious. People who have been following the tweets between Gigi and Fitz also know that something is up. Gigi does her best to keep Lizzie filming and in her office. She gets a text (presumably from Fitz) and lights up and leaves the room. Lizzie is talking about how strange Gigi was just acting when Gigi pushes Darcy in the room, and Lizzie is surprised to see him. 

They begin awkwardly, both speaking at once. Darcy confesses that he was aware Lizzie was shadowing his company, and was supposed to be in LA, but had a board meeting to get to. (It can be inferred that Gigi and Fitz probably may have put that together for Darcy.) Darcy begins to act very civil and warm towards Lizzie, just as in P&P. After the initial surprise, Darcy seemed delighted to be in situation, talking to the girl he loves with an added bonus or her not acting as if she hates his guts.

She is obviously not expecting this (as in P&P), and compliments his company and says his sister has been kind in "her own special way" (as she compliments Pemberly and very much wants to meet his sister in P&P). Darcy chooses to take that as a compliment, showing how polite he is being. Lizzie tries to leave quickly (much like how she considers avoiding him before he reaches her on the path in P&P), saying that she has a dinner. Darcy offers her a ride, probably wanting to spend more time with her, and she declines. 

I loved this episode. Gigi was so eager yet subversive in a very clumsy way. Darcy was amazing. He is really growing me in a lot of ways. Personally, I'd ship Lizzie and Gigi if it was in the story, but my feelings aside, Darcy is really showing his character growth in these few episodes he has been in. Of course, I'm sure it makes more sense if you have read the book, but it still is rather remarkable. Fitz... I'm pretty sure we'll seeing him again soon. And the scene, just very well done. I commend the actors and scriptwriters on this well done episode.

So in the craziness of the past month, I completely spaced posting this appropriately... Blerg. ANYWHO, the 2nd part of P and P: The Real Story’s eagerly awaited eighth episode with the amazing Josephine Ho.

In the second half of this episode Josephine and discuss cards vs. reading and most importantly Jo's requirements for some one to be labeled "truly accomplished." Naturally silliness abounds. And in the wonderful wide of Austen, we get the first major confrontation between Darcy and Elizabeth. Steamy.

And as always, the episode contains another juicy chapter (well half of a chapter in this case) of Jane Austen's delightful and timeless Pride and Prejudice with epic stick figures inspired by the LIZZIE BENNET DIARIES.

So today is the first Monday in a looooong time (well not counting the Pemberley arc week hiatus) sans a new episode of the Lizzie Bennet Diaries. As I know many of us are a bit bummed about it, I offer up my humble tribute sorts to the Lizzie Bennet Diaries and Pride and Prejudice.

P and P: The Real Story, a new audio/visual recording of Jane Austen’s beloved Pride and Prejudice performed in its entirety by myself (Janine Hegarty) with illustrations inspired by the Lizzie Bennet Diaries. The project hopes to introduce views to one or both works or celebrate their love of them.

Each episode contains one full chapter of Austen’s classic text along with illustrations (aka stick figure interpretations of the action) and a short vlog. This is the first episode/chapter of the book entitled Meet the Mr. and Mrs. Bennet.
