Who doesn't love a good party. You could say this is the dance of the dead. In 1964 Roger Corman released The Masque of Red Death. As part of his Edgar Allen Poe story adaptations. This was his seventh adaptation of the classic stories and in my opinion his finest in terms of visual spectacle and story. Unlike the many more gothic approaches this one whilst maintaining them adds a distinct and vibrant colour particularly red...... Vincent Price is having the time of his life as the satan worshipping and sinister Prince Prospero. Whilst the villain he maintains his wit and charm. Jane Asher is great as Francesco bringing a sense of innocence a clear opposite to Prices character. All of the characters are great and the story brilliant. The last act to me was one of the greatest sequences in Cormans Edgar Allen Poes adaptations I have ever seen. The Danse Macabre was a visual treat, creating an artistic view of this movie which elevated this to true horror legend.
