galerie frank elbaz, galleria Massimo Minini, and Meyer Riegger are pleased to present an outdoor installation by Sheila Hicks at the Parvis de l’Institut de France during Paris + by Art Basel.

Made out of durable, resistant fibers VERS DES HORIZONS INCONNUS, 2023 brings a bright and colorful accent to the parvis, contrasting the sandstone palette of its surroundings all whilst establishing a dialogue with the architectural features of The Collège des Quatre-Nations.

The works’ complex composition reveals itself fully when discovered from different angles, as its colors swift and the view opens up on the Pont des Arts, the Seine, and finally the Louvre on theopposite riverfront.

To show this work in Paris, Sheila Hicks chose a location connected to her history with the city; a short walk from her studio near Odeon down the rue de Seine, the street she first lived on when she arrived in Paris in the 1960s.

The work is part of her column series and has been exhibited this summer in Légendes Botaniques, Biennale d’art contemporain, Chateau de Menthon-Saint-Bernard near Annecy. Other works from this series have been exhibited at the Sydney Biennale, 2016; the Horst Arts & Music Festival & Horst Exhibition, Belgium, 2018; Artists and the Rothko Chapel: 50 Years of Inspiration, Moody Center of the Arts, Houston, TX, USA, 202; and Sheila Hicks: Off Grid, The Hepworth Wakefield, 2022. A catalog will be published on this series by the end of 2023 with a text by Frauke V. Josenhans, Associate Curator at the Moody Center for the Arts, Rice University.

i’m busy going through old photos cause it’s my mom’s birthday coming up and All she appreciates is pictures of people but WE DON’T HAVE ANY PICTURES FOR ME TO CHOOSE FROM anywayy, i just realised the pictures i used to take on my old digital camera are actually better than the ones i take on my DSLR?? like neither of them look that amazing cause i’m not exactly a photographer, but the pics from my old camera look so cute and grainy... it looks more like “cute family holiday pic with a little date in the corner” whereas my new pictures are kinda like ?why is there this picture of this person not looking so great can’t you see their skin is terrible here??? ew. Also all my new landscape pics just look underwhelming whereas the bad quality ones look all vintage :/ I’m pretty sure the auto setting on my old camera was much more intelligent than this one,, like i would so often be pleasantly surprised by how nicely the colours came out in a picture of something average and now I’ll take a picture of something that actually does look good and it’ll come out all dull or under/over-exposed
