Title: The best birthday gift Couple: Endou Mamoru and Kazemaru Ichirouta, from Inazuma Eleven Words: 1492 One-shot Summary: Kazemaru wakes up the day of his birthday and goes to the beach that it’s near the football team residence. But soon Endou joins him. Warnings: None Author’s note: I  started it on Saturday, but I’m always late. This is for EnKaze day... I tried.

The best birthday gift 

A gentle breeze blew with the smell of desires and shed tears, moving the blue long hair of a boy who was approaching the end of his adolescence. His eyes, orange and intense, watched a sky that turned the velvety blue of the night into tears of that same color.

He woke up very early, perhaps because of the nerves that ran through his guts like wild animals at the outlook of the trip they had to take that afternoon after that last World Cup or maybe because in the room next to his someone was snoring like a T-Rex with bronchitis and he had taken away from his sweet dreams with birthday cakes and giant candles that exploded with a smile that melted his soul. His smile.

When he woke up he was somewhat stunned, he looked at his cell phone to see the early hour. No one had congratulated him yet, somewhat disappointed despite the fact that was logical, he worn his shoes and went for a walk on the beach in which the shining stars of the sky were still reflected as playful caresses of destiny.

The smell of salt and foam splashed the air, and he breathed deeply that calm. Trying to tidy up his feelings. Trying to tidy up his thoughts. Trying to tidy up his life.

He sat down with a certain dejection on a bench facing the sea, soft, smiling, indifferent to the shadows that hung over the teenager once more.

Sometimes he felt euphoric and capable of anything and other times, he felt that his existence on Earth was a mere expense of oxygen. 

Self-absorbed, he did not hear the steps of the shoes that were approaching behind him or how someone was about to jump on him.

“Happy Birthday, Kazemaru!”

Strong and tanned hands hugged him from behind, pushing the boy and making both of them fall face down against the warm sand.

“Endou?”

The boy who had congratulated the other with such joy sat up spitting sand and removed a strand of brown hair from his round and pleasing face.

He took a breath and began to sing at his lungs a happy birthday without realizing that he had sat on his stomach and that if he did not retire soon, perhaps that was the last congratulation the boy would hear.

At the end he smiled even more at his bluish and somewhat tearful friend, his smile increased. Kazemaru was so adorable when he got excited ...

But Kazemaru didn't cry because he was moved by the chanting of good wishes, but because his lungs creaked at the lack of air.

When Endou got up, Kazemaru felt that he was reborn. He coughed a little and grabbed the hand that the teenager, with roasted skin under the relentless sun that shone on them during soccer training, offered. 

He stood up gracefully and shook the sand that had come into contact with parts where he would have preferred not to do so.

For a moment both boys did not know what to do and looked at each other in silence. The sun was rising over the horizon and projecting long rays of hope.

The birthday boy fixed his hair to leave his left eye covered by the bangs as usual; but to his surprise Endou withdrew it with what he tried to be delicacy leaving it behind the boy's ear.

“You look better like this, Kazemaru.”

The boy's eyes hesitated to look back at those large and dark, warm as the star that caressed them, his cheeks had risen in color and he only managed to stammer something.

Endou laughed, more for not knowing what else to do about the situation than because it was really fun.

“Do you want to walk with me, Kazemaru?”

The boy still in a state of internal shock nodded automatically, but was in a greater state of stupor when Endou grabbed his hand and walked with a speed that although Kazemaru had no trouble following, it was not what he expected for a walk.

They walked for a while, in a silence sometimes interrupted by the noisy seagulls and sometimes by the screams with which Endou answered them.

They reached a more rocky area, a small cliff above the sea waters. The boys climbed and climbed, watching as the sun rose completely in the sky of a beautiful blue that predicted a clear and splendid day.

“Do you know what you're going to wish when you blow the candles?”

Kazemaru shook his head, they were holding hands again and that made his IQ freeze momentarily from the internal screams of his brain.

His heart was going very fast, and he was still feeling his cheeks burning, he hoped his friend believed it was the product of heat stroke.

“Today is a very important day for me too, do you know?” Endou laughed swaying so that Kazemaru thought he was too recklessly given the nearness of the cliff.

“Why?”

“Today is the day you were born and I am very grateful that you were born. What would have happened to me without you !?”

Kazemaru shrugged, not believing he could have really played such an important role in Endou's life.

“When we were kids you avoided me so many accidents... “

“Maybe iif you were not so reckless …”

“You have always taken care of me! You have always been by my side when I have needed you.”

"Almost always," the boy murmured bitterly, remembering the brief period a couple of years ago in which he left the Raimon, shamed of his own frustrations, being easier to manipulate and becoming part of the Dark Emperors.

However Endou smiled even more.

“That made me realize how truly important you were to me, Kazemaru. I'm also glad you decided to leave that day.”

The boy's orange eyes looked at him without understanding, although his heart jumped a little.

“Why?”

“If you had not left, if you had not joined the Dark Emperors ... I could not have rescued you, right?. It was my little moment of glory. My moment of fulfilling my responsibility as Mamoru.”

Endou laughed and hugged Kazemaru.

“Thanks for always being by my side, Kazemaru Ichirouta!”

The appellant blushed even more, uncomfortable at the lack of lucidity to act in that situation, even if so many times he fantasized about such moments! Why on the moment of truth he come like a fool?

“I'll always be with you, Endou.”

Endou opened his mouth for a moment and then smiled so happily that Kazemaru melted inside, why did he have to be so precious? That smile, that smile was simply irresistible to him. 

The brown boy scratched his head in which he wore an orange band and stared at the sky for a moment before addressing Kazemaru again.

“Close your eyes, I have a gift for you.”

The long-haired boy's lips widened slightly, but he smiled with emotion and squeezed his eyes so tightly that a funny wrinkle came out.

Endou put something in his hands, it looked like a piece of paper. Kazemaru tried to figure out what it really would be when something stopped his breathing.

His lips had come into contact with something fleshy and warm, he felt an agitated breathing in his face and a strong happiness covered him with that tender gesture that tasted like chocolate, he felt on heaven, when he opened his eyes he saw how the other boy, completely flushed, turned away after that kiss and he ran away with a smile that although he pretended to be mischievous was much more innocent.

Of course, the boy would never have been able to do something like that for himself, the entire football team collaborated on that unusual gift that took months of planning. Some, with much effort, had helped Endou realize his feelings, others had sworn by his life that Kazemaru also felt the same for him, more partners had suggested the kiss and one last had been pretending to snore like a troll to Kazemaru’s wall to wake him up.

Kazemaru, whose heart had stopped obeying and had thrown himself beside his guts for what should be the biggest emotional roller coaster in his life, was planted a few moments before he could even look at the paper, which was a crumpled piece of sheet on which it had written some words with horrible calligraphy.

“I like you, Kazemaru Ichirouta. Do you want to be my boyfriend?".

It was so wonderful that the boy had to pinch himself to make sure he wasn’t dreaming. He smiled as he took the piece of paper to his heart and then taking a breath, he ran out to reach Endou, who despite the advantage he had, was quickly reached.

However, it took hours to return to the residence where the football team was staying. And when they did, they received whistles, applauses and shouts of joy.

I tried to limit my choices to my MOST current fandoms/obsessions, otherwise, I’d never be able to decide.  

Whenever Good Smile posts these "surveys for fun", I can't help but think they're trying to gauge which figures they should make next.   In that case SCHOOL UNIFORM PERSONA 5 NENDOROIDS!!!  AND PHANTOM THIEF FUTABA SAKURA NENDOROID!  And yes, I want Nendoroids for “My Next Life as a Villainess”, but my wallet doesn’t!  ;o;!   Hopefully, listing Akira Kurusu on a Good Smile Company survey like this will ensure he'll get more figures.  I'm actually not sure if I'd consider him my husbando.  I just want more figures, especially Nendoroids.  lol  

Best Boy / Best Girl: I hate choosing just one.  But if I go with my most recent favorites, it'll help narrow things down.   Ryuji Sakamoto / Maria Campbell Ryuji Sakamoto / Catarina Claes LOL  it's been a long time since I loved a super genki gutsy girl like Catarina.  Maybe not since Lina Inverse!  lol  There have been a lot of kuudere queens since Lina.  lol  Though...I guess if you count Rukia's sillier moments, maybe she can be pretty genki and enthusiastic?   . If I stick to current fandoms and choose Akira Kurusu as husbando, that would explain why I tend to be jealous over him.  Ryuji, I can ship with Ann or entertain other people's ship art with Ryuji, even though I prefer Ryuji with Akira.  But if I catch even a glimpse of anyone besides Ryuji with Akira, I click away from the entire website!  Like a voice in my head will not tolerate anyone with Akira who isn't Ryuji!  ^^;;;;;;;  Maybe that's a sign that Akira is my husbando.  ...Am I saying jealousy can be equated to the adoration I feel for ingenues like Maria Campbell?!?  That doesn't sound right.     Y'know what?  If I don't have an answer for husbando, then I just don't have an answer for husbando.   . Best anime OP/ED:   If we're going with current obsessions, lately a day hardly goes by without the Carole & Tuesday opening theme going through my head.  Though I do love anything by Asian Kung Fu Generation and T.M.Revolution/Abingdon Boys School/Takanori Nishikawa.  His Kamen Rider Zero One opening theme is amazing!  *u*  And I really love the themes from Fullmetal Alchemist's "Rewrite" opening theme from Asian Kung Fu Generation.  But L'Arc En Ciel's opening theme for FMA was also amazing...  And I love Yui; she's done a lot of anime themes...  See, this is why I said to limit myself to current obsessions.  So, "Kiss Me" by Nai Br. XX and Celeina Ann.   As for ending theme...?  I've always loved the ending theme for the Devil May Cry anime.  I had my eye on Oikawa Rin ever since she did the insert song "She Said" for the live action movie Kamikaze Girls. And I think she's done some Mamoru Hosoda movies too---Wait.  That was Hanako Oku.  Her music is good too!  *o*   I wonder if I could just pick one song instead of 1 opening theme AND 1 ending theme.  I'm too indecisive for 2 songs.   Well, since I'm limiting myself to only my most current fandoms, then I wouldn't have to check too many songs.  Haikyuu to the Top has a good ending theme.  I think Dr. Stone had a good one too.  And since I'm now watching My Next Life as a Villainess, I can add that to the candidates.   Dr. Stone's ending theme is good, but it's not as invigorating as Haikyuu season 4's.  At least to me. Naw, MNLAAV's ED is kind of typical.  Haikyuu s4's ED really grabs me.  "Kessen Spirit" (Haikyuu to the Top) . Best weapon:   ??????????????????  Should I include magical powers too??????  I've always liked swords.  So, magic sword?  Or am I supposed to be specific?  Like a specific mecha or specific Persona?  Should I include skills?  Like Hinata Shoyo's athleticism?  Should the answer be metaphysical, like how Love motivated Homura Akemi to re-make the universe?  But maybe "best weapon" is necessarily the most powerful.  Should it be the tool that enables the most good? A metaphysical tool that does good has got to be a Shonen protagonist's determination.  Y'know what I've always liked?  The innovation in Ranma Saotome's martial arts skill.  Someone online commented a LONG time ago, that Ranma can pretty much learn any martial arts technique, even really difficult ones, sometimes overnight or in a week.  And during a lot of his duels, he often has to throw out whatever technique he trained for, specifically to use against that opponent, and come up with something on the fly.  And that impromptu fighting technique usually works!  So is the best weapon a "sharp mind"?  Maybe I should just say "magical swords" to be simple and humorous.  It'd be really cool if I could think of something specific as my favorite.  Y'know what?  It's already 12:57 AM 5/16/2020.  I'm gonna go with "a sharp mind".  It was what made Nabiki Tendo dominate every situation, it's a key component to Lelouch vi Britannia whom I love so much.  ...a sharp mind & martial arts...  Now that I'm filling it out, maybe I should just pick a personal favorite weapon, vs "the best".  How about Natsume Takashi's compassion?  "magic sword, sharp mind, Shonen protagonist's determination".  Titual character plot armor?  lol   "Shonen protagonist's determination; Shojo protagonist's compassion" . Best mecha: I've never really been into mecha.  Even when I was obsessed with Magic Knight Rayearth, I still wasn't that interested in their mecha.  I usually always say "Deathscythe Hell" is my favorite mecha, because even though I'm not into that much mecha anime, I used to be into Gundam Wing, Duo was my favorite, his mecha was really distinct with its scythe, and his emotional connection with it was very endearing.  But Code Geass is one of my favorite anime now.  Gurren is cool, becasue Kallen Kozuki is cool and they've both been through a lot together.  But I feel like I should say Shinkiro is best mecha, since I love Lelouch.  Earlier today, Bluefin revealed a new figurine for the Shinkiro and my jaw dropped.  Maybe I should say Shinkiro?  But I don't really know even the specifics of Shinkiro? Maybe that's not a requirement.  Maybe I should just put anything, since I'm not a mecha expert.  Maybe I should go "classic" with Escaflowne?  Naw, that's a copout, not my personal answer.  The problem with choosing the Guren or Shinkiro is that I'm not so much favoring the mecha, as much as I am the pilot.  But the question is about the mecha.  In terms of capabilities, Shinkiro's calculating abilities might be more amazing, but only Lelouch specifically can use it.  But that ability can be used for both calculating defense and attacks... And the lazer dispersing gem on the Shinkiro is pretty cool too.  I guess I like the aesthetics of Shinkiro better than Guren.  But Guren's Radiant Waver Surger arm has turned the tide of so many battles, I can't help but be emotionally attached to that capability too. And should I say "Guren", "Guren Mark II", or "Guren Seiten" is best?  I love Guren Seiten's wings.  Y'know what?  I'm just gonna put both.  "Guren Seiten / Shinkiro"

(Notes: This one is aimed @moominmamma-time. I’m so sorry it’s all I could find for Tachimukai… Fingers crossed he appears in Ares. By the way, both he and his voice actor have really long names. Also, I didn’t translate the Event Report because it’s pretty basic. Exciting Inazuma event in Tokyo and fans went wild. Lots of previews about stuff that has now been released. Great banter all together.)

Hiroyuki Yoshino (Kidou Yuuto)

1.       What the members of Inazuma get up to besides soccer. Of course, they play soccer too.

2.       Leave the cooking to me! It’s all part of my study to become a good emperor!

3.       Beware of the person who says ’10!’. That boy is more mischievous than I thought…

4.       Do your best, Oni-chan!

Mamoru Miyano (Fubuki Shirou)

1.       I think seeing a different side to everyone, and hearing them unwind away from matches will warm your heart.

2.       He’s more S than I thought. Fubuki-kun (laughs). (Translator’s Note: What does S mean? It literally says 以外とSだったんですね。He’s more S than I thought. Sarcastic? S sounds like Esu in Japanese, which means understanding. Maybe it means understanding…)

3.       Kogure-kun. He just does whatever he feels like, and this time he’s just as mischievous as ever. But he was very cute! (laughs)

4.       Please always stay that strong and cute Fubuki! I too will do my best to play you! (laughs)

Yuka Nishigaki (Kazemaru Ichirouta)

1.       I think that you can see sides of characters you haven’t seen up until now, and the skills they have!

2.       … I think you should really make sure you hear things with your own ears, not second-hand information!

3.       Kidou-san! He really loves his little sister… I want an oni-chan like that!

4.       You’re always walking one step behind with a worried look on your face. You’re still only a second year in middle school! Please take all these worries, these thoughts, these conflicts, these smiles and become a wonderful adult! I love you so much.

Shuhei Sakaguchi (Tsunami Jousuke)

1.       How on earth do you play soccer using only your voice?? That aside (laughs), I think it’s funny that you can see a different side to the characters.

2.       He’s still rousing everyone up, pushing full steam ahead like always. ‘Let’s do this, let’s do that!’ (laughs). It was fun to play him interacting with members he doesn’t normally interact with in the anime.

3.       Kidou-san! But not just in this drama CD, I’m a personal fan of his (laughs).

4.       (Translator’s notes: I have no idea what the first part means. ガンガン偏差値が下がってるぞ！ ) Be careful (laughs)!

Junko Takeuchi (Endou Mamoru)

1.       You can see sides of the characters you haven’t seen in the anime, and there are many friendship scenes between the boys that fans would like to see. That’s why I recommend it.

2.       Rather than what he gets up to, I really like the scene where you can feel Endou and Kazemaru’s bond. Both of them are wonderful boys.

3.       Kidou-kun and Gouenji-kun. Because both of them are serious but mischievous at the same time.

4.       Please continue to be the personification of happily playing soccer along with your friends. Endou-kun’s straightforwardness is soothing. Gyanbatte ne.

Hirofumi Nojima (Gouenji Shuuya)

1.       You can see different sides of the everyone from usual, and I think that’s enjoyable. And Gouenji is probably acting more mischievous than usual?!

2.       What he gets up to (laughs)… He plays more pranks than I thought he would.

3.       I laughed at Tsunami acting like an idiot.

4.       You’re a middle school kid alright, aren’t you Gouenji?

Megumi Tano (Kabeyama Heigorou)

1.       I think it’s fun to see different sides of everyone that you don’t see in the anime. It’s really cute to see them away from soccer, being normal junior high school kids.

2.       As always, he eats and eats and eats! The rest is a secret~

3.       Kidou-san. He’s infectious~

4.       I love you. You’re a chubby star!

Nami Miyahara (Kogure)

1.       The BBQ scene. Kabeyama-kun… just how much did you eat??

2.       He plays pranks, as usual. One, two, three… Many pranks. ^-^

3.       Kidou-kun. Personally, I think his comic timing is great and I felt like bursting into laughter during recording.

4.       Stop playing so many pranks! Really, stop it!

Shinnosuke Tachibana (Tachimukai Yuuki)

1.       I think it’s interesting to see everyone just being themselves.

2.       He really does things at his own pace, and throws things into confusion.

3.       Kidou. The expressions he makes sometimes are good.

4.       Tachimukai-kun, I want you to always stay that hard-worker who does things at his own pace.
