Nazi rally in Buenos Aires (April 10th, 1938).

Before WW2, Argentina had a strong, well-organized Nazi demographic that was controlled by the German ambassador Edmund von Thermann.  In 1938, a “Day of Unity” rally was held at Estadio Luna Park to celebrate the Austrian Anschlüss.

According to U.S. Vice-Consul W. F. Busser, about 20,000 people attended the rally.  He reported that it had all the trappings of the Berlin Sportpalast rallies – massed choruses of Deutschland über Alles and Horst-Wessel-Lied (the Nazi party anthem); Hitler Youth, Frontline Veterans and the SA with their tossing standards; and a high podium with Ein Volk, ein Reich, ein Führer in huge Gothic letters on an blood-red background.

The Alianza de la Juventad Nacionalista (the Argentinian fascist youth movement) attended in their grey shirts (shown in the fourth photo) and Nazi stormtroopers (the SA) ringed the entire auditorium (shown in the fifth photo).  Busser reported that the stormtroopers were of two types: “thick-necked and square-headed with well-filled paunches, or thin, pasty-faced, but terribly earnest...they must have been mostly waiters or poorly paid clerks.”

The Federación Universitaria Argentina and socialist youth groups held a counter-demonstration in the nearby Plaza San Martín, although they had been forbidden from doing so.  The demonstration spilled over into nearby streets.  German flags were burned, German banks and the Instituto Cultural German-Argentino were stoned, and two elderly bystanders were trampled to death by police horses.  The interim Chancellor of the Foreign Ministry, Manuel Alvarado, apologized publicly to the Chargé d'Affaires two days later, criticizing a “certain press” offensive to German nationality that failed to take into account “the cordial relations between the two nations”.

The swastika-in-a-gear symbol was the badge of the Deutsche Arbeitsfront (German Labour Front), the Nazi trade union association that replaced the various trade unions of the Weimar Republic after the Nazis gained power.  The banners read: Wir wollen den Frieden (We want the Peace), and Jeder arbeitende Deutsche gehört in die Deutsche Arbeiterfront (Every Working German Belongs in the German Labour Front).

Bereits vor zwei Jahren entstand die Idee für die Benefizveranstaltung. Knapp ein Jahr wurde nahezu täglich etwas geplant, viel Freizeit wurde geopfert. Lars Schäckermann, unter anderem Leiter der Kinderfeuerwehr auf Fehmarn, kennt die Arbeit des Vereins von seiner Tätigleit in der Notfall-Seelsorge, sagte sofort seine Unterstützung zu. Er war nicht nur maßgeblich an der Organisation beteiligt, sondern will demnächst auch selbst die Ausbildung zum Trauerbegleiter absolvieren.

Ich weiß, wie wichtig diese Arbeit ist. Ich mache selbst Sterbebegleitung, bin in Kiel im Hospizverein. Es klingt immer alles so traurig: Sterben, trauern, Hospiz, Trauernde und Sterbende begleiten - aber diese Arbeit ist die bereicherndste, die ich je gemacht habe, weil man so eng mit Menschen in Kontakt kommt.“

„Das Ziel ist ja immer, die schönen Momente im Leben zu finden oder zu beleuchten - gerade bei Trauernden“, gibt Mandy Schmidt zu bedenken. „Diese Menschen wieder auf den Weg zu bringen, Freude am Leben zu finden, ist total schön. Wenn man Halt und Stütze sein kann für so einen Menschen, ist das toll und total wichtig.“

Mit ihrer Darbietung boten sie ein entzückendes Bild, das vom Publikum mit viel Applaus belont wurde. Als „Räupchen“ erwachten sie aus ihrem Schlaf, tanzten dann zu einem Kinderlied, bevor sie zu rockiger Musik richtig loslegten.

Für Michael Thermann, Pastor aus Neukirchen bei Heiligenhafen und Chorleiter der "Jesus House Singers", war ebenfalls sofort klar, das Projekt zu unterstützen. Nicht nur klasssische Gospel, sondern auch Evergreens, Pop-, Rock- und Folksongs hat der Chor im Repertoire. Am Samstagabend durfte „Bridge over troubled water“ von Simon & Garfunkel nicht fehlen, „als Verbindung zur Fehmarnsundbrücke“ schlug Michael Thermann den Bogen.

Ostholsteins Kreispräsident Harald Werner verlieh seiner Freude darüber Ausdruck, „aus diesem Anlass mal wieder auf Fehmarn zu sein. Dieser Verein zur Trauerbewältigung ist schon eine ganz tolle Institution. Es ist wichtig, dass die Bürgerinnen und Bürger darauf zurückgreifen können, dass sie Hilfe suchen und finden. Ich hoffe, dass sich auch viele Fehmaraner*innen damit identifizieren und den Verein unterstützen. Das wäre mein größter Wunsch." Ehrenamt sei eine wichtige Säule der Demokratie, stellte er heraus.

Trauer und Leid bleiben oft im Verborgenen

Und ich denke, dass wir seitens der Stadt solche Gruppen unterstützen mit Dingen, die wir dazu beitragen können. Ich hoffe, dass die Menschen hier auf Fehmarn das Projekt bewegt, weil solche Dinge ja nicht oft im Blick sind. Trauer und Leid werden oft im Verborgenen ausgehandelt. Aber das ist etwas, was in die Gesellschaft getragen werden muss. Denn sowohl Glück als auch Trauer gehören zum Leben dazu.“

Unser Leben kann sich schlagartig ändern

„Der Verein ,Kinder auf Schmetterlingsflügeln‘ begleitet mich eigentlich von der ersten Stunde an, als die Grundidee in Bosau entstand“, blickte Bundestagsabgeordneter Ingo Gädechens, Schirmherr der Veranstaltung, zurück: „Heute wird sehr professionell und mit viel Liebe die Sterbebegleitung gemacht. Unser Leben kann sich schlagartig verändern, wenn jemand in der Familie stirbt. Und oftmals kommt ein Kind dann zu kurz, weil die Eltern zu sehr in ihrer eigenen Trauer gefangen sind. Hier dann professionell zu begleiten, ist eine große Aufgabe, die hervorragend vom Verein begleitet wird.“

Therapeutikum WestFehmarn spendete 2.000 Euro

Foto: Privat / Lars Schäckermann Im Rahmen einer Tombola hatte das „Therapeutikum WestFehmarn“ 1.500 Euro für den guten Zweck eingenommen. Die Klinikleitung erhöhte die Summe auf 2.000 Euro, die Klinikleiter Oliver Kettner überreichte: „ Wir schätzen das Engagement des Vereins sehr und wissen, wie wichtig es ist, Kinder, Jugendliche und junge Erwachsene beim Abschiednehmen und in ihrer Trauer zu begleiten, wenn sie in ihrer Familie schwerer Krankheit und Tod begegnen.“

Elfriede Bohnsack: "Dieser Tag ist jede Spende wert"

Sie hatte einen kleinen Verkaufsstand dabei. / FOTO: HILKE HAHN-WOLFF „Als ich mein Spendenlied gesungen habe, waren die Leute kaum zu bremsen mit ihren Spenden“, ist die „Hamburger Putz- und Toilettenfrau Elfriede Bohnsack“ überzeugt, viel dazu beigetragen zu haben, dass das Geld an diesem Abend reichlich floss: „Dieser Tag ist jede Spende wert, wenn du hier Geld rein tust, dann ist das nicht verkehrt, genau wie ein Moment, den man nur von der Spardose kennt“, gab sie zum Besten. Und ihr Alter Ego Stefan Baumgarn-Jung ergänzte: „Das war ein Abend, der uns sehr berührt hat.“

„Wenn mir Herr Perner fünf Euro zustecken tut, dann stripp‘ ich auch“, hatte Elfriede Bohnsack im Vorfeld versprochen (oder gewarnt). Aber damit hatte sie kein Glück, das Geld wanderte doch lieber in die Spendendose. Sie freute sich trotzdem, dabei sein zu dürfen: „Es ist mir eine Ehre.“

Wem immer wir Zeit schenken, dem schenken wir ein Stück von uns.“ Diesen dänischen Spruch gab Gabi Stienemeier-Goss, Koordinatorin des Familienhospizvereins „Kinder auf Schmetterlingsflügeln“, der Versammlung mit auf den Weg. Es seien großartige Momente, wenn die Kinder irgendwann nicht mehr zu den Trauergruppen kommen, weil andere Dinge wie Fußball spielen wieder wichtiger geworden sind, fuhr Gabi Stienemeier-Goss fort: „Dann ist das Kind wieder da, wo es hingehört. Das ist ein ganz besonderer Moment, das ist ein Geschenk. Zu wissen, dass wir diese kleinen Menschen einen Teil ihres Lebens begleiten können - und sie dann wieder loslaufen und an ihrem Leben teilnehmen.“
