outside of kpop though, he really likes clairo, alex sloane, hojean, niki, the nbhd, conan gray, hemlocke springs, and other artists in this soundscape

he gets so excited when he finds south asian indie artists

his love language is definitely acts of service and physical touch

this shows through a lot with the amount of times he’s cooked his cultural foods and baked pastries for the people in his life

he loves seeing people’s satisfaction after eating his food

gwen has definitely said some of his dishes were too spicy tho 😭😭

he accommodates her by making a smaller, less spicy dish for her whenever he cooks for gwen

aside from chai, he’s really good at making different teas and coffee

lattes, americanos, macchiatos, green tea, chamomile, you name it, pav can make it !

because of this, he’s been dubbed the group’s chef and barista

miles LOVES whenever pavitr decides to crash in his dimension because of his chai and green tea specifically

another way pavitr shows his love is by playing with peoples hair

if you let him, he’s just always trying to braid hair or just combing through it with his fingers

or with people with afro textured hair like miles, he’s always putting it in cornrows after he watched many tutorials on it

playing with gayatri’s hair is always the most relaxing to him tho

speaking of him and gayatri, they’re like couple of the year to his friend group in the spider society

First Time Watches of 2023 (3/3)

SILENT NIGHT - The idea of a Christmas apocalypse film where everyone dies was immediately appealing to my mother and I because our family sucks. That Jojo Rabbit kid is fucking stellar, made me sob.

THE THING - practical effects 💖. Just such a solid film, again another tumblr recommendation I really wanted to tick off, the descent into distrust, the tension, the stakes, sexy Kurt Russell; yeah, 10/10.

LADYHAWKE - Everything about this was made for me except for that excruciatingly 80s score - get that sound outta here! Matthew Broderick is incredibly endearing as Phillipe “the mouse”, i absolutely adore him. The curse is brilliant - and hell, that scene with the transformation as they lie beside each other - MAN! I just wish that instead of telling us about the priest’s curse, and him summoning the devil or whatever, we’d been able to see it. Even if it had just been shadows on the wall, or a semi-animated sequence - would’ve added a little extra.

TREASURE PLANET - My friend Hannah had recommended this to me a decade ago and I’m very sorry it took a literal decade to get to it. The most I knew about Jim Hawkins was that people that made non/disney amvs back in the 2000s/2010s shipped him with Ariel, those Jelsa bitches don’t even know how bad it was. Anyway, this film was gorgeous, oh my god? And while I hate “I need a father figure” plots this one was well-written and genuinely moving. Great ensemble, tho the robot played by Martin Short feels unnecessarily jammed in.

THE LION IN WINTER - Numerous mutuals have posted about this; god, I’m so glad. This was another one I picked up a DVD of in my favourite antique place. KATHERINE HEPBURN. is everything. This whole thing was…insane…Shakespearean delivery for dialogue that is 90% fitting and then 10% bizarre. Timothy Dalton hot asf. Anthony Hopkins really using his eyes. All the Eleanor & Henry scenes are of course, absolute highlights - i love it when people just lie to each other, and between all of that, reveal their devastating truths - but what struck me most, and has stayed with me, is the three princes locked in the dark dungeon, reduced to little boys by the violent whims of their father & the schemes of their mother. a manipulator, a warrior, and, well, john, utterly powerless. Bizarre & entertaining.

THE BOY AND THE HERON - Saw this today, it was visually stunning; Mahito is a strong character and his VA is great; Mark Hamill delivers, but Christian Bale is wobbly, his accent fluctuating. The character of the Heron is a real highlight and wow, kudos to RPats. Love the world this film creates. Kiriko is my new fave ghibli woman. Dreamlike, mournful, fantastical, tugs on the heartstrings, enjoyable but actually made me appreciate Spirited Away more, which has never been one of my favourites but now I really wanna rewatch. Spoiler, btw, if you’re like that: when the tower started crumbling I started welling up because it just felt like a goodbye from Miyazaki, and I don’t even idolise him; it just really feels like his heart, and the heart of all the animators, was in this, and by god I appreciate that.

oh and a shout out to john wick 4, the peter cushing version of dracula, puss in boots the last wish & spiderverse 2, which were all pretty great! I have had a great time with movies this year.

My top three are Nausicaa, Spirited Away, and ... ugh ok top four bcus i can't decide between the last two Howels Moving Castle and Princess Mononoke. So hard to narrow it down honestly. But Nausicaa is my all time fave for sure tho.

There are certainly some nice spots in the midwest, but its mostly a lot of nothing tbh. And only sometimes the good kind of nothing. But the climate is deff very reasonable for most of it.

okay so i met this guy for coffee for a first date and it was really lovely like we were just gonna get coffee and meet each other and then ??? we ended up walking around and talking for six freaking hours !!! i spent all day with this boy !!! completely randomly !!! like it was one of those dates where i really didn’t notice how much time was passing and it felt like we spent 30 minutes together not six hours ! like it was as so so easy to talk to him and he was so funny and beautiful 🥺

and he bought me lunch and it was so sweet of him like i tried to pay for myself and he said “don’t bother” 🥺 so sweet and he walked me to the car at the end but didn’t kiss me and i was kinda sad about it but then he texted me when i got home and asked me out to dinner so that made up for it i think 🥰

Burrito’s Guide To Survive Coronavirus Quarantine

We got to keep social distance (1 or 2 meters each other) or stay home during coronavirus outbreak so I thought I can share with y’all some things I’m gonna watch or do doing quarantine (this is a very long post, REBLOGS ARE VERY MUCH APPRECIATED!).

BUT FIRST SOME RULES:

Wash your hands: do it for 20 seconds or a while, but ALWAYS do it. It prevents the virus from spreading. If you don’t have sanitizer, water and soap! The cheapest and best ally against the disease.

Buy everything you need: if you can, try to buy stuff so you can stay some days at home. If the place is crowded, go back home and come later when it’s more empty. Same as medicine.

You can go for a walk: stay at home all day can be overwhelming for your mental health, but unless the goverment puts a curfew or gets strict about it you can go walk outside for a while always respecting the 1 or 2 meters from other people and without making contact (chatting) with other people. This ain’t my rule, a CDC professional says. DON’T go visit your friends or to crowded places such as bars, restaurants, shoppings, etc. If you want to buy something, ask for delivery or take away.

If you have coronavirus sympthoms (high fever, diarrhea, cough, feeling tired, breath difficulties) DON’T GO TO THE HOSPITAL YET, CALL TO YOUR PUBLIC HEALTH ORGANISATION OR WHATEVER YOU GOT AND THEY’LL TREAT YOU.

SO YOUR LIFE IS ON QUARANTINE

Let’s say your boss or your school told you can stay at home. Okay then, you gotta prepare for some days inside *Isolation by John Lennon plays in the distance*. The first thing you think is you have to prepare a batch of series and movies to watch in order to kill some time. I’m gonna recommend you some you can find on VOD or cable, if you don’t have it don’t worry because I got you covered!

Infinity Train: a yet two seasons saga about people who got to face their problems aboard an endless train. The protagonists are joined by creatures who have different nature and help them, or not, to acknowledge their issues and leave the train. It’s on CN, it will continue on HBO Max.

The Owl House: a teen girl who daydream a lot was going to be sent to a down-to-earth camp but then she crosses a portal to the Boiling Isles, a magical world where she is taken care by a powerful Owl witch/saleswoman and her adorable demon. Lots of fantasy, some action scenes and many many puns. It’s on Disney Channel, it’ll be on Disney+ in some weeks.

Primal: Genndy Tartakovsky delighted us with the alliance of a caveman and a dinosaur, two rivals in a wild world who ally after facing a devastating event. It IS brutal and beatiful, has no dialogue and keeps you watching closely. Five final episodes are set to premiere this year. It’s on Adult Swim, maybe on HBO Max.

Tuca and Bertie: for the critics, one of 2019 best shows. For Netflix, a show that had to be cut off because the studio unionized. Two friends in their late 20s face changes in their lives: from living with a boyfriend and plan a life to look a way to stay sober and get a job. Deals with trauma, ptsd, anxiety and more harsh moments very well. In fact, the creator is a vital part of Bojack Horseman! It’s on Netflix.

Aggretsuko: red pandas are cute eh? But what about a antopomorphic red panda who releases her anger and frustrations by singing at a karaoke? This awesome comedy by Sanrio & Netflix is one of anime’s big hits lately. Like T&B, has a good handle of adult problems but not going too deep just to not break the comedy. You can watch it on Netflix.

Regular Show: yeah-uuuuhhhh! Eight seasons, a movie, five Halloween specials and some others. The adventures of a racoon and a blue jay with their co-workers/friends that relies on psychadellia and 80s and 90s nostalgia. It begins good, gets better, then lowers the quality (they were producing the movie at the same time tho, give some credit) and with and after the movie ends awesome. It’s on CN web, dunno if on Hulu (US only) and proably on HBO Max.

Evangelion: it’s a classic at this point, but addictive to me because I end rewatching the series or the final movie many times. A post apocalyptic future where the world has to deal with strange creatures known as the Angels and a boy with lots of traumas has to get on a mecha to save the humankind. All the characters have traumas and issues, the interaction between them or the action makes it worth. The End of Evangelion is a movie that ends the unfinished series. Warning: at some point it becomes very twisted and there are scenes which are too much violent. Viewer disclosure etc. It’s on Netflix worldwide.

Steven Universe & SU Future: this is the tale of the gem boy who ends a galactical tyranny and brings democracy to the universe. A acclaimed show that broke through many topics like gender, identity, ptsd, relationships and many more. Besides it’s got the best scores of the Milky Way and beyond thanks to the talent of Rebecca Sugar, Aivi Tran and Surasshu. And the actors and acrtresses! I don’t forget the movie, a musical that is an introduction to the epilogue: Shippuden Future. The show is available on CN and will be on HBO Max. Worldwide? No news.

Adventure Time: something that began as an innocent boy and a magical dog having adventures in a post apocalyptic world turns into the journey of Finn Metens from childhood to almost adulthood. There is a lot of fantasy and comedy you enjoy, but there are dark moments and serious ones through S6 that find a balance with early seasons form S7 to the finale. It also has great music, memorable moments and colaborations. And guess what? There is going to be a special set to premiere on HBO Max in some weeks! You got plenty of time to catch up or rewatch before that on CN or only (!!) S5 on Netflix.

Final Space: a dude tries to save the universe with their friends, where we can find his love interest, a cat-man and his kitten son, a intersexual alien, an AI then robot that is the best of them, two particular siblings and an annoying bot that prevents insanity that makes you insane. Crazy adventures in space, lots of situations, sadness, an evil smol bean who is a space emperor, a dude who looks for revenge, space deities that can destroy the universe. Is this a lot or info? It is not, because there is more and you can watch it on TBS, Adult Swim and Netflix (the world except US).

Rick and Morty: the most powerful, smartest human in the universe has adventures with his grandson. It’s awesome, but has a very toxic fanbase. Anyway, you can enjoy it on Adult Swim or Netflix (which is up to date!) and the rest of S4 is set someday.

Bojack Horseman: a Hollywood satire about human relationships, fame, traumas with a pour of comedy. Alongside the previous series, the best adult animation of the decade. Sadly cut by Netflix because the studio unionized (see T&B), said by both the creator and Aaron Paul. You can watch the six amazing seasons on that platform.

I’m not an animated movies guy, but here are three I really like and you can watch:

Porco Rosso: a handsome Italian combat aviator turned magically to a pig has a face off with an American pilot hired by pirates to get rid of him before WWII in Fascist Italy. It’s entertaining and, like every Ghibli movie, nice to watch. It’s on Netflix and will be on HBO Max for US.

Lego Batman Movie: Batman is depressed and has to get over it. It’s wacky and has lots of comedy. Plus Will Arnett is top 3 Batman. On Netflix (Latinamerica).

Spiderverse: Oscar winner movie about your friendly neighbour Peter Parker Miles Morales. Miles sees Spiderman die and feels bad after being transfered to a private school. Then a radioactive spider from a Fisk compound bites Miles and he’s Spiderman... among other dimensions’ Spiderpeople: Gwen, Peni, Peter Parker, Noir and Peter Porker. It’s visually amazing. On US it’s on Netflix (I guess), on Latinamerica on HBO.

Some interesting live actions I watched lately

Atlanta: Donald Glover is Earn, a dude who struggles to find a job for her baby girld and sees an opportunity when his cousin, Paper Boi, has a hit and uses him to make his cos famous. Sometimes a comedy, sometimes a social satire with touches of drama. And all protagonists are now big shots, like Zazie Beetz, Brian Tyree Henry or Lakeith Stanfield. There are two seasons and two seasons set for 2021 (2022 possible beacuse of coronavirus). It’s on FX, Hulu (US) and Netflix (world)

Avenue 5: this is brand new. On 2060 space cruises are a thing, and one cruise (the Avenue 5) has an accident that leaves the crew and passangers stranded for years. The captain (Hugh Laurie) has to solve this shit with a bunch of incompetent crew, bosses like Judd (Josh Gad), except one female engeneer who is very smart. Lots of crazy things happen in this series from the creator behind Veep. It’s on HBO (it’s free in the US!).

Peaky Blinders: it has some years but damn it’s epic. A gang from Birmingham makes their way to the top during the late 1910s after the Great War and extends through the 1920s. S5 is right in the ascension of fascism in Britain. ALL THE CAST acts spectacular, names like Cillian Murphy, Tom Hardy, Anna Taylor-Joy and a long etc. But my fave is Paul Anderson, that ultra violent junkie Arthur Shelby is splendid, then is Tommy and aunt Pol, the baddest badass woman in Britain. Blinders is going to have seven seasons, there are two left. You can watch it on BBC or Netflix.

Sex Education: speaking of Britain, excellent teen comedy. Horny, doubtful teenagers going through those hard years. Stories of sex (duh!), abuse situations, abortion, there are gay relationships either, Gillian Anderson! It’s on Netflix, go go go!

Watchmen: despite not having Alan Moore on board, Damien Lindeloff did a tremendous job with the comic. Way better and less misleading than Zack Snyder’s 2009 film, Watchmen is again at the gates of the world’s end (like today) and handles the problem of racism and white supremacy quite well. Just 9 episodes, but worth to watch. On HBO.

CAOS: Sabrina the Teenage Witch is over. Warner and Netflix made a revival of the Archie Comics character and brought her to XXI Century. But gorier, hornier, dark and magical than the nice 90s sitcom. Sabrina Spellman goes from a doubtful teen who has to decide if she has to be a witch or a powerless woman to rule Hell. How she does it? Find out on Netflix! Note: S1 and 2 take some episodes to start properly. Don’t get bored too easy.

12. Is there an episode above all others that inspires you just a little bit more?

Okay so this is a tough question for me, but only because I don't really understand what it's asking. By "episode" does it mean, like, for a tv show or something? Because when I first read through this list it didn't seem specific to any one kind of media so I am thoroughly confused. So I'll think of something and if you want me to answer something else, lemme know.

Hmmm... Well, as an artist I have always loved animated movies and shows over live action ones, so those have had much more of an impact on me since I was little. Things like Studio Ghibli or Disney, shows like Avatar the Last Airbender, lots and lots of video games, and some anime eventually (tho I'll always be more of a manga girl). I think the top three fandoms that have influenced me over the years are Harry Potter, Batman, and Legend of Zelda. Each sticks with me to this day and has had a lot of affect on my writing, obviously or not.  So not really episodes, but fandoms. If you wanna know about a certain fandom and it's influence, tho, feel free to ask.

13. What’s the best writing advice you’ve ever come across?

WRITE FOR YOURSELF. It's also probalby the hardest piece of advice to  follow for a lot of us. But my best friend and I always pass this bit of advice back and forth between the two of us, because we both need to hear it so often. And it's true. Writing isn't about doing things for others. It's about yourself - putting yourself and your ideas and love to paper (quote unquote) so that you can share a bit of yourself with others. But putting that piece of yourself out there is so hard and it can ake you feel fragile. So the solution? Feel proud of it. Love it. Love it enough that it doesn't matter what the response is. Because it's a part of you and you are wonderful.

17. Do you write your story from start to finish, or do you write the scenes out of order?

I am very much a person who writes from start to finish. This doesn't mean I never have notes or ideas for further on down the line, but I'm much more likely to flesh things out more as I come to them in the story. This has worked for me for the most part because I don't write many... uh... long stories, I guess. I'm more of a oneshot or connected oneshots kinda girl these last few years. Though I do have some chapter fics going right now and some that... I really, uh... should finish. >__>

28. Share three of your favorite fic writers and why you like them so much.

Haha! Oh, hun, you know I'll always consider you one of my faves. We've bonded over hurting Tim too often to ever be anything else but faves. And I'll always remember the old crowd fondly, though it's been almost five years now since we started drifting apart. Heartlogos, Ailea, BlueThursday, MGNemesi, Varevare, Justsayins, Wisiadan, Lectoral, Jcolney... *sighs, lost in memories* So many good times. I'll admit that I haven't been as active or attached since, and couldn't name some of the writers I like right now offhand. I'd have to go looking and such.

But yeah. I miss the good times. :')

32. How do you feel about smut?

Darling. My dearest. *gently puts hand on shoulder* Love, you know very well the answer to that question. But I can't blame you.

I am all for smut, which is odd considering my personal opinions on the idea of sex and I even considering to appear in the same sentence in, uh... most any way. Anyway. EDIT: i’m editing this like 2 weeks later bc i cant believe i forgot the promised neverland. i don’t have anything intelligent to say other than GOOD. the mystery was great, the suspense was great, the character animation was great. all good. i’m reading the manga so i’m excited to see what’s next!

ok so summer 2019- given. one of those shows so good that it got me to read the manga (only a handful of shows have gotten me to do that) so. its good yo. the character drama and the way characters interacted with each other was so much fun to watch, and also like. canon queer characters, so bonus points for that. but what really got me was towards the end, when mafuyu finally sang his song and it just destroyed me in the best way possible. the raw emotion (when he screams in the middle of the song, just *chef’s kiss*), the storytelling, i just! so good. i’m so excited for the movie but also terrified because 1) they could fuck it up so easily and 2) non-manga readers will inevatibly watch it and then say given is “cancelled” and . there’s already enough people reading the manga for the first time and doing that i really don’t want more of them

spring 2011- steins; gate! slow start, but absolutely worth it. i was hooked after the ending of episode 1, and it continued from there. but what really got me was towards the middle, when mayuri died, and then there was that episode after of just scene after scene after scene of okabe trying and failing to save her. it was so emotional and raw and GOOD, and it really raised the stakes for the following episodes. so good.

there are multiple seasons so im not giving this one a year but- natsume yuujinchou! one of the most soothing, but also emotional shows i’ve watched. the found family natsume finds with his friends but also his adopted parents after enduring abuse previously is just. ;_; all the youkai stories are done so well too, and it’s just. very good. my favorite seasons were san, shi, go, and roku (three, four, five, and six)! i still haven’t watched the movie yet tho bc i’m never in the right emotional state lol (in other words: i’m never ready to be depressed for a full day afterwards)

fall 2012- this boy caught a merman. no explanation here, i love soubi yamamoto. also assume everything she’s made 2010-2019 is on here save for meganebu and this boy suffers from crystallization

fall 2016- a silent voice. duh. have you SEEN this movie? 

fall 2015- noragami! i’m completley biased but fuk u. i adore noragami and its world and its characters and its story and i. bones season 3 when

march 2016-  kanojo to kanojo no neko: everything flows. this is 4 episodes, about 8 minutes each and i cried so

summer 2017- made in abyss. look i know this show is contreversial and rightly so. it’s got Issues, and i can’t reccomend it blindly like i can some of the others on this list but god if i didn’t love it. the music, the background art (animated by a former ghibli animator!), the story, the lore, the emotion (when reg and riko had to say goodbye to maruk...when reg finally killed mitty, and nanachi’s wails afterwards...) its Good, what do you want from me

summer 2011- no. 6. good and queer. also when am i getting my reunion. god

fall 2011- chihayafuru. hoooooo boy are my thoughts on this one Complicated. i adore chihayafuru, the sport of karuta is fascinating and thanks to this anime i learned how to play the game and joined a karuta club. even participated in an official comp in japan. .....also got my ass handed to me and was so discouraged that i quit the game So

summer 2013- uchouten kazoku. a hidden gem! i liked season 1 more than season 2, but it was such a fun show!

spring 2015- kekkai sensen. this show was so much fun! remember how the last episode got delayed for like a month+. that was fun. again i liked season 1 more than season 2, but whatever. black was my favorite! and black and white’s relationship was so sweet ;_;

winter 2015- assasination classroom. this was such a ridiculous show, but a lot of fun. karma was my fave! cheeky lil bastard

winter 2016- doukyuusei. it was queer and good

fall 2016- 3gatsu no lion. yet again i enjoyed the first season more than the second, but still an amazing show. rei was such a good main character, and his battles with depression and just his inner-mind in general were so interesting to watch. 

winter 2017- miss kobayashi’s dragon maid. this was such a feel-good show. also involved found family and was also queer and good. like made in abyss it had Issues (and like made in abyss the issues were similar....sigh), but if you can ignore those, it was really good and wholesome.

spring 2018- liz and the blue bird. i went into this having not watched hibike (besides like 2 episodes back when the first season was airing), but naoko yamada is amazing so. the raw emotions were SO GOOD. also the fantasy scenes were so much fun to watch.

??? 2019- vinalnd saga. does this count? i mean it STARTED it 2019, even if it finished in 2020. anyway this was really good

Hello! I want to say that I really admire your work and the backgrounds you've been doing lately are phenomenal! I was wondering if you have any tips for practicing actually coming up with the ideas for environments - like exercises one could do to get things going in terms of concept, composition, etc. Sometimes it can be hard to get things started, and since I don't go to art school, I wanna try and give myself assignments so I can get better at creating interesting concepts. hi there, thank you so much omg! :’)

i would definitely recommend you do the assignment that i did, because all of those pieces were for a visual development class i took last semester! before i took that class i barely did any backgrounds, much less interior backgrounds. here were the basic guidelines:

1. in the end, you will have completed 10 finished pieces. (4 interiors, 6 exteriors) you will also have a character lineup of 5 chars that must appear at least once each in the 10 pieces. you first must come up with a story! any setting, any time period, any characters.

2. before we started on our pieces, we worked in small un-detailed thumbnails (we did at least 25 of them), focusing on value! we used a thick, black colored pencil to create these thumbs, making sure we have light space, dark space, and mid tones. do more than you think you need and don’t be too precious with them! (i posted some of mine on insta if you want to scroll back to look at them) 

3. you pick your 10 faves and make slightly bigger, more detailed thumbs! only a few of my pieces actually came from these thumbs tho, things can change as you go on and you may come up with better ideas. (i actually skipped this step haha but if it helps you then go for it! everyone’s process is different)

4. at some point you have to do research! i gathered pics of cottages, kitchens (some photos from ratatouille), fruits and plants from around the world, etc. i just googled all this stuff! with all of that i used it to inspire my own new versions of rooms/forests/fruits/veggies/etc and then i got more inspo from things like adventure time and ghibli films for their backgrounds and props

5. start on your pieces! do research AS you work! i think one of the best pieces of advice i can give would be to make everything specific. create props and backgrounds with thought and purpose, think of reasons why things would be the way they are (why they’re grown that way or why they’re built that way), base them off of real things to make them believable. but add a twist to make them yours!

once i had a story i liked the sound of, i just kept doing more and more research and i only got more excited and interested in the story i was telling through these images! ideas flow so much easier when you do a lot of research and do preliminary sketches and stuff. it helps too to pay attention to the media you like and how they draw backgrounds and props! don’t shy away from things you don’t think you’re good at bc if you don’t try you’ll never get better.

Nasch: Really likes superhero movies, he and Rio watch them together all the time. Big on documentaries and parodies. Actually really likes comedies, especially the overly cheesy ones– Which Yuma was happy to find out.

Rio: Biggest fan of horror, esp the movies that have legit lore behind them. Doesn’t get scared easily but like to make Shark and Mizael watch with her cause they do. Second fave is Sci-fi followed by action.

Durbe: Historical/political dramas because he’s Like That but also big on Fantasy and Sci-fi. Likes to curl up with Mizael and Gil and critique accuracy and costume design. Secretly has a copy of MLP: The Movie

Mizael: Fantasyyyyyyyy 1000% Followed by Adventure and just a little, little secret romance. Anything with a dragon and he’s down, tho he’ll spend 80% of the movie criticizing how poorly the dragon is portrayed. (Specifically secretly like romance movies with love triangles and jealousy plots) 

Alit: ROMCOMS ROMCOMS ROMCOMS also enjoys action movies and is a huge Jackie Chan stan, but he has a stash of popcorn and tissues specifically for Romance. He and Gil also like to watch really shitty soaps. Oh yeah, tends to love Sports movies, always cheers for the underdog. 

Gil: All for animated, mostly comedy and adventure movies. Has a soft spot for romance but prefers it as a development alongside the main plot. He’s p the biggest Disney stan of the group– but loves Studio Ghibli the most. Also likes history/documentaries. He and Durbe like to argue over which are more accurate

Vector: Second biggest animated movies fan– but prefers Dreamworks/smaller or foreign studios. Pretends to like horror just to make Rio think he’s cool but gets nightmares easily. Really likes spy/political thrillers.

9: Got any piercings?

Yes. I have an industrial in my right ear, and I suppose I do technically still have a lobe piercing in each ear? I basically never use them, and I really should. They’re still there, like they haven’t healed, but I need to put earrings in them on the daily again. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I also used to have an industrial in the other ear, but it broke right before work while the piercing was still healing, and it healed before I could get another bar in.

Tbth, I don’t want the other industrial back. I haven’t really been taking care of the piercings I have, so I’d rather make myself work on those. Maybe a tiny nose stud or an inner ear piercing in the ear with the industrial, but I probably shouldn’t, lol.

Problematic horror fave: Black Swan, with Silence of the Lamb as a close second

Queer foreign language film: El Angelos de los Sexos bc I have bad tastes; but I also like Freier Fall and Romeos: Anders als du denkst, Bad Boy Street is in English, but it was 110% made for a Francophone audience; and while on the one hand Meine Schwiegertochter ist ein Mann is just Prayers for Bobby without the stakes, it’s also Prayers for Bobby without the uncomfortable redemption of a homophobe who drover her son to suicide and really weird unfocused structure; also Burnt Money is probably ableist af, but it made me feel things, so you should probably go see it

Queer drama: hands down Gregg Araki’s Mysterious Skin, it’s a masterpiece; also i’m missing key pieces like I killed My Mother and Blue, so… ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Queer comedy: I feel like I shouldn’t list Araki’s Kaboom! here, but I will bc I love it, and I haven’t been able to find, like, any of the teenage apocalypse trilogy (if anyone knows where i can find it online, lmk please); I also probably shouldn’t list Jarman’s Jubilee, but my list so fuck your faves

Japanese animation: so many Satoshi Kon films to choose from tho! gotta go with Millennium Actress over Paprika, even though Susumu Hirasawa did some of the best work of his career in Paprika’s soundtrack (though I used to use “Run” from Millennial Actress to practice my kanji when I took Japanese, and I still habitually scribble kanji strokes when I listen to it, lol); for Ghibli films, I’d say Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds, even though Princess Mononoke is the objectively better film in every way bc, as we ave established, I’m trash; i wanna put down Grave of the Fireflies, but I can never make it all the way through it bc it is SO SAD, and also kinda imperialist fascism apologia :/

Western animation: dark horse candidate Felidae, which is an R-rated German film abt a sentient cat detective getting his dick wet, pissing on things, and taking down cat neo-Nazis, and no I did not make a word of that up; also The Incredibles is simply incredible

Vampire films: honorable mentions first this time, I like how Coppola’s Bram’s Stoker’s Dracula is at least interesting in its take on the story, even if it doesn’t always vibe with me on a narrative and character level (I certainly prefer it to the Bella Lugosi version, fite me purists); I appreciate the Hammer horror aesthetic of The Vampire Lovers, and I do love the shit out of Carmilla; but I’m a German film buff at heart and have to give it to my girl F W Murnau for Nosferatu

German Exressionism: Fritz Lang’s Metropolis, hands fucking down; also M is a masterpiece, go see it twice

Executive disfunctioning is a massive bitch, so that’s right up on top. I’m also not a fan of my inability to be emotionally vulnerable or to rely on other people. So you know Arguel’s Blood Fast, and the land it turns into Temple of Aclazotz? Well Aclazotz is a bat-god fairly closely based on the Mayan god/demon Camazotz, whom we largely know of through the oral traditions of the Q’eqchi. And I was happily surprised by learning that today, bc Q’qechi Maya is a language I actually studied a little bit in my independent study on VOS languages. So that’s neat.

I have been a big fan of manga and anime since i was like 5, and i have read many mangas and watched many different animes and so far my favorites would be: One Piece. It was the first manga i have read and it has a special place in my heart ^_^

Death Note: One of the most cleverly written mangas and the art style is wonderful, it mimics true crime in such a good way!

Great teacher Onizuka: The anime and manga is hilarious! It teaches you valuable life lessons and has some serious topics in it which we can all relate to at some point...

Bungou Stray Dogs: A Masterpiece. There are a lot of characters in here but they are all unique and the plot is cleverly written each character has their own struggles to which we can relate to at least one character. The art style is very pretty too!

Inuyasha: always a 10/10 in my book, literally my first anime ever. I read vol 1-8 in one sitting (it took me like 1.5 hours) and I was like 8 years old.

HxH: both the original animation and the newer one.

the only one I can't really say I've ever even tried watching is JJBA, I just am not too in love with the art style IN animation. I think I'd be fine if I read it though.

hi there! to clarify, this is a log of films i’ve seen this summer, not exactly films set in the summer, so if you’re here for that, i’m sorry?

anyway, here we go!

1. kasal (2018) / dir. ruel s. bayani ♡ 180525 ♡ girl is engaged to the son of cebu’s current mayor who is currently preparing for elections, but her ex comes back and tries to win her back ♡ cliche, i know, but trust me, this movie deals with this plotline in a very interesting way ♡ and come on, it’s bea alonzo and paulo avelino, two icons 2. high school musical (2006) / dir. kenny ortega ♡ 180614 ♡ iconic, i love troy bolton, thanks for reminding me ♡ i know sharpay isn’t that bad but she’s still a bully lol ♡ the choreography for when there was me and you got me dying i love it ♡  fave song: stick to the status quo 3. high school musical 2 (2007) / dir. kenny ortega ♡ 180622 ♡ my least favorite in the trilogy ♡ there was so much unnecessary drama they should’ve cut troy some slack ♡ i hate chad danforth, that’s all ♡ fave song: you are the music in me 4. high school musical 3: senior year (2008) / dir. kenny ortega ♡ 180622 ♡ my favorite in the trilogy! ♡ i still hate chad tho lol but i love taylor so much she’s my favorite character! ♡ i wish they elaborated more on gabriella though, because i like to imagine an alternate ending where she declines stanford and stays in albuquerque for another year which disappoints everyone and puts a strain on her relationship with troy. that would’ve been so interesting! ♡ fave song: i love all of them, but if i had to choose, the boys are back 5. kimmy dora 2: the temple of kiyeme (2009) / dir. joyce bernal ♡ 180626 ♡ the only reason i watched this was because i had a terrible pimple on my forehead and it reminded me of some horror movie then i realized it was this so i had to look for the particular scene ♡ the movie was really bad, as expected ♡ but i absolutely love eugene domingo!! she’s so talented i really admire her as an actress

6. before sunrise (1995) / dir. richard linklater ♡ 180630 ♡ this was the day my internet ultimately stopped working (for four days, if i may add) so i thought hey why not start that movie marathon i’ve been meaning to do ♡ i was excited to watch this because it’s a known pop culture reference, and also because it’s seulgi’s favorite movie ♡ it’s unique! it’s not easy to film a story that revolves around two people who’ve just met walking around in a city neither of them knows ♡ i liked this movie but it wasn’t that spectacular or anything, i think it lacks emotion and excitement ♡ but please, do not get off a train in europe with someone you’ve just met that is dangerous 

7. before sunset (2004) / dir. richard linklater ♡ 180630 ♡  i knew nothing about this so i was actually surprised to see the same actors nine years after before sunrise’s release ♡ i like this better than the first one! céline shows the emotions i was looking for ♡ it’s much simpler and easier to follow because it really is just them walking around and talking to continue the story because of the short amount of time they have together 

8. before midnight (2013) / dir. richard linklater ♡ 180630 ♡ this movie is the reason i watched the series! it was mentioned in it’s okay, that’s love so i thought i needed to watch this, and honestly, it helped me understand the characters from iotl a bit better! ♡ it ended up being my favorite film of the three ♡ it’s more complex than the first two because it introduces more characters and is set in more locations ♡ after years of watching and reading romcoms, this made me believe in love

a song about john lloyd? sign me up 17. that thing called tadhana (2014) / dir. antoinette jadaone ♡ 180708 ♡ another film i finally watched after multiple pop culture references ♡ i actually kinda liked it! it literally has a spiel about john lloyd of course i do but it gets better when the main characters become comfortable with each other ♡ i find it interesting that the director also directed love you to the stars and back which is another film that revolves around two people, both dealing with stuff, who’d just met and decide to go on a journey together ♡ the characters also feel pretty realistic/relatable once you get to know them 18. the spectacular now (2013) / dir. james ponsoldt ♡ 180709 ♡ part 3 of sad western teen books-turned-movies i used to glorify ♡ the only reason i rewatched this was because it was the shortest of the films i had at the time and i needed something to pass the time while loading episodes of svt club ♡ i mean it’s okay? not bad not good and i don’t even like miles teller ♡ shailene woodley perfectly plays the part of the awkward oblivious girl (and that’s not a compliment) 19. the breakup playlist (2015) / dir. dan villegas ♡ 180716 ♡ this film was so refreshing to watch?? sarah portrayed a youthful musician just starting out so so well i love her so much what a great first sarah g movie for me ♡ piolo made me fall in love with him and later on hate him, as he should ♡ i love opm kaya seeing the gig scene, some actual artists like ebe dancel, and looots of covers of songs like wag na wag mong sasabihin by kitchie nadal and with a smile by eraserheads ♡ i understand now why people love paano bang magmahal HAHAHA 20. barcelona: a love untold (2016) / dir. olivia lamasan ♡ 180717 ♡ alright so remember how i absolutely hated sdtg? ♡ I LOVED THIS FILM SO. MUCH. ♡ kathniel matured a lot in two years and i think they were perfect for this!! they really showed certain struggles of young adults and did not disappoint ♡ it also shows filipino values for family, utang ng loob, ofw struggles, etc ♡ and of course the cinematography is beautiful HUHU i mean it’s barcelona!! 21. my annoying brother (2016) / dir. kwon soo-kyung ♡ 180721 ♡ honestly took me a bit to get into it  ♡ i expected it to be funny and although it did make me laugh a lot why were there tears :((( ♡ kyungsoo is so, so, so talented i admire him so much as an actor now ♡ really hits you in the feels! a really beautiful story about two brothers 22. so i married an anti-fan (2016) / dir. kim jae-young ♡ 180724 ♡ meh ♡ it took some getting used to seeing chanyeol being all snobbish and cool instead of his usual loud happy self ♡ of course it’s overdramatic for the comedy, but the hate-turned-love isn’t even that good lol it’s just unreasonable but whatever ♡ the lead girl reminds me of arci munoz HAHA 23. wonder (2017) / dir. stephen chbosky ♡ 180725 ♡ we watched this during my summer program and i was actually pretty excited because i remember loving the book! ♡ this honestly teaches you a lot not even just from the perspective of children but also as teenagers, parents, friends, etc ♡ i thoroughly enjoyed it!

I generally prefer second generation??? I think????? I like a bit of all of them tho. but like there is no definitive answer to when each of the generations start and end so like I don't even know??? but most of my fav groups as far as music goes are older around 2nd gen but a fair amount of them are gen 3, I have a really strong love for kpop that was released between 2009-2014.

Tell me a fun childhood story (I’ll start! One time an aunt gave me money to buy ‘papas’ (potatoes) at the grocery store so bc I’m obedient af I went and asked the counter lady how many of em could I buy with the money I had so she went ‘uhh, not many tbh’ so i ended up getting like two and when I returned to my aunt’s house she laughed her ass off and said: I meant ‘papas fritas’ (potato chips) Not those! - and uh yeah this is funnier in Spanish but it proves that I’m such an innocent angel I mean wow)

ok so I spent a lot of time at my aunt Lori’s house when I was a kid (like summers, and after school) and my cousin was the BUG queen so she hand made leashes for her pet toads (that she caught) and we walked them around on leashes for like a week but I was always so afraid of them and also hurting them so I WAS NOT ABOUT THAT ahahaha dumb story but it makes me laugh alsoalsoalsdo they had this bench swing in their back yard and my cousin my sister and I would swing on it together for hours at a time and one time we were swinging real hard (REAL HARD) and the links?? or whatever that held it to the ceiling it was hanging from snapped and the three of us of us flew off of it and we all collectively blacked out??? it was so weird but I woke up to my cousin stuggling to get me off of her and then there lays my sister underneath the bench just blacked out chilling (she was fine) then my aunt came running out cause she had just heard the loudest crash ahsdfasdf not long after my uncle put stronger links on it and that bench is still there! From time to time when the three of us get together this story gets brought up its still the most hilarious thing ( ALSO CLOUD YOU ARE SO PURE I LOVE)
