I think mcrs popularity more than doubled after they broke up. They played stadiums only occasionally, tending to play smaller gigs. Now, every single tour date sold out instantly, in MK alone that was more than 100,000 tickets! I feel like the attitude towards mcr has changed as well. Back then they were given a lot of shit for being emo and having young fans, and they were mostly put under the same heading as fob, panic etc. I think now there’s a real widespread belief that mcr are objectively in a league of their own. Fob and panic could never in a million years sell out concerts like mcr are now doing. It’s really interesting and I wonder what caused it to happen - was it the random break up? Was it older emos such as Dan Howell referencing them which caused the next generation to start listening to them too? Or was it simply because their music is that good? I personally liked mcr before they broke up but only really listened to their albums front to back afterwards.
yea i mean ive talked about this quite a few times but you're right, theyre definitely more popular now than they were back then, easily seen by the size of the venues they're playing now. like yea they did headline reading and leeds during dd, but the majority of the rest of their shows outside of festivals were clubs. the ticket sales for this tour are insane.
i just think its a combination of like achieving this Legend status after they broke up, but also the hype of the reunion. if they hadn't broken up i don't think they'd be selling out venues of this size. the benefit of breaking up for 7 years and then announcing a reunion tour is that all of the people who didnt get a chance to see them before are like ravenous to finally see them now that the opportunity is there.
like i do get the impression that 14 year olds think that all mcr fans (or a majority) are in their teens. like when gerard had to turn off his insta comments i read some of them and there were QUITE a few comments that were like 'your fanbase is young teens you really cant be silent on this' and like. that is simply not the case. insta and twitter fandoms tend to skew younger imo so all those teenagers are seeing mostly teenagers and thats how they form that opinion. but the fact is that like i would say a majority of mcr fans are actually in their 20s and 30s. and MOST people in their later 20s and 30s, especially those who have been mcr fans since the early days, are not active in the online fandom. im different <3 but like that skews the perception of the fandom bc a majority of the loud voices ARE pretty young. anyway what im saying is that a lot of mcr fans are older now, and were probably teens when mcr were active and possibly their parents wouldnt take them to see them so now that they have the chance and they dont need their parents permission theyre like snatching up those tickets. i think thats definitely a factor too. like i hardly even remember seeing a young person at the shrine. nearly everyone there was an adult.
also like im not going to get into the lecture but theres a reason the "emo trinity" exists, theres a reason mcr are lumped in with fob and panic and it was never because people thought they sounded similar sonically. are mcr in a league of their own? yes. but these bands still have a large overlap in fanbase.
the thing you said about fob and panic not being able to sell out concerts like this. i think thats like. i cant actually decide if thats true. and i dont think its easy to compare bc neither of those bands broke up in the same way that mcr did and got back together. the fact is that mcr have 11 million monthly listeners on spotify but fob and panic have 17 and 18 million, respectively. by the numbers, fob and panic have more fans. mcr are benefitting from the hype of getting back together after 7 years. so idk. when fob came back from their hiatus it was fucking huge, and they did go on an arena tour with panic. i saw them at the barclays center in brooklyn which is where one of my mcr shows is. sooooooo idk. i think thats hard to gauge.
anyway i dont really know what caused it. like its very clear that public perception of mcr changed while they were away and that they became much more popular in the mainstream during that time. bc the other thing that i didnt mention is that the online fandom is SOOOO much smaller now than it was when they were together, and even a lot smaller than it was in say 2016 when i came back from a few years away as a fob stan. so i dont think the 'new generation' as you called it is contributing THAT much to these crazy ticket sales. its kind of a mystery.

bowers gang headcanons part 3 ft. modern ideas
henry.
there aren’t that many photographs of him. the most prominent ones are the few taken before his mom left from childhood and his school photos. he will not smile for the camera.
actually began skipping school picture day in the later years. never bought the photos in the first place.
he doesn’t really know how to act on camera?
in a modern setting, most of the pictures he takes are of inantimate objects or things to sell like cattle or tractors or whatever.
in a modern setting, he doesn’t have a very busy snapchat. it’s used mostly for social gatherings / getting the word out about parties / meeting up with the gang / etc.
uses the most emojis in the groupchat.
upgraded from a tracfone ( busted to hell and back, amazing it still even functioned ) his junior year of high school.
got an iphone 6 secondhand with his own money. he’s cracked the screen and broken two otterboxes for it.
little to no customization of it. no games. has spotify, though.
he follows vic and takes music reccomendations from him
has never gone to the dentist
his wallet has an expired ID, crumpled money from doing odd jobs for people,
cut nearly all the sleeves off of his shirt. the only reason he didn’t cut them all off was because belch reminded him winter exists.
his boots are tired and worn, and he usually has to buy ( or steal ) them for himself or bank on birthday money from friends.
no bank account. makes belch go to the bank with him to cash checks.
does not budget for shit. not that he doesn’t know how, just doesn’t care to.
belch.
photographs of him and his family absolutely line the hallways and are hung up around his house.
a bit awkward in front of cameras, but smiles the best he can
has a natural crookedness to his smile
he has a photo of his mom in his wallet.
his phone is an android ( samsung galaxy 8 ). he’s had it for about 6 months
vic gives him constant shit
takes pretty okay care of it? considering he works on cars sometimes, it may get damaged because of that.
has a few games for henry to play while he’s driving
his social media is pretty barren. talks to a few people on snapchat, has a twitter for vic to reach him on but doesn’t really do anything except retweet anti-ford memes
guess what his gallery is also full of.
he goes to the dentist about every other year at his mother’s discretion. is actually afraid of the dentist.
pays for a lot of the bank’s activities so he’s checking his bank info constantly
budgets to the best of his ability. when it comes to school, he listened most during personal finance.
handles most of the check-business with henry
wears his hats and boots until they’re nearly falling apart.
absolutely hates buying new clothes.
sometimes goes thrifting ( + stealing ) with vic since he knows the best places
vic.
his photos are pretty sparse, too, but not to the extent of henry.
doesn’t usually skip school picture day, regardless of the year
his mom buys them most of the time, if she has the money
the only one who really knows how to act on camera tbh.
the most active on snapchat! gives henry shit for using emojis.
is very aloof through text, everything he does and says sounds like an all lowercase tweet with absolutely zero emotion
along with snapchat, he also has instagram and twitter. has an active following on there which he doesn’t really interact much with, but still appreciates
makes tiktoks. theyre pretty funny, but in an obscure way
he posts selfies and lanscape stuff on there. patrick teases him about it.
has an apple, from months of begging before his birthday.
has Many Memes and games, the most customized out of the gang
uses darkmode on any app he can
has been to the dentist twice, both times after pestering his parents about it.
feels a bit bad about belch paying for everything, chips in when he can.
not as avid about checking his bank info, but does from time to time just to make sure it’s all there as it should be.
can write checks and balance his own checkbook, even in modern-day times. his mom made him learn to do it before he got a bank account, even if it’s an obselete practice.
also wears his clothes until they fall apart. avid shoplifter.
undeniably the best fashion taste in the group.
has an eye for fashion, lowkey.
has his ears pierced. never actually wears any earrings in them.
patrick.
there are many photos of him. most of them are blurry, or off-putting in someway.
he will deliberately move while photos are being taken.
his smile is fuckin wack we already know this
he creeps out the school picture-taker. that is his only reason for showing up.
does not give a fuck about school picture day either. oh he hasn’t showered in three days and his hair is greasier then an auto repair shop? Good.
his phone is a busted phone he got shipped from somewhere foreign. it’s overloaded with so much shit. it’s cracked and falling apart. 50/50 chance there’s fire damage to the poor thing. he’s had it for a week.
his social media presence is nonexistent or very cryptid-esque. he has multiple platforms and takes photos of weird shit. 90% chance the platform ( insta / twitter / snapchat ) took it down themselves.
loves r/nosleep and other subreddits. doesn’t have an account.
takes photos of shit he shouldn’t be taking photos of.
approx. 2 selfies. both of which are unsettling in their own ways.
he’s the guy that got drunk and changed the size of missouri on the wikepedia map very subtly. if you asked him what missouri was he’d say ‘what the fuck is missouri’
rewrites wikepedia articles
uses lightmode anywhere possible.
god help the person who finds his search history
goes to the dentist the most. has the most dental issues and least care.
doesn’t feel any remorse for having belch pay for stuff. he’s a freeloader to the highest degree, we been knew.
has not spent a dime of his own money almost ever. steals or mooches almost exclusively.
he was too busy reading books about marxism in personal finance for shock factor to soak in any of the class’ information.

Are you silently judging everyone through their online feeds?
milenials 2017. this is such a hype discussion between me and most of my friends nowadays. not to mention that milenial-life-style in my country has been extremely turned into something horrific. And this is a proof of how globalisation start to messing up our new generations and our youth.
i have no idea why asians and americans tend to be unbelieavably active in social medias in compare to europeans. cause yeah not having an Instagram is such a typical European. they tend to be more exclusive about it. Therefore, living in europe taught me how to be more careful to post something on social media, especially for pictures where there’s another people on it.
lemme tell you one example. in my circle, i am the only one who seems indifferent among my german friends (including the fact that i'm a foreigner). I basically dont give a flying fuck if anyone post a picture of me (unless its a naked picture) and i didnt look good on it. But apparently, it doesnt work the same for them. like i remember i once put their pictures our pictures in Facebook, and i tagged them without first asking their permission and they got pissed off. and i was like “okay, i apologize and im not gonna tag you guys anymore”. and they calmed down a little bit. and then a couple of months later, i put a few pictures of us after one party in Facebook (again) and i thought as long as i didnt tagged them and its not on their profile it would be just okay cause i thought we were cool already. but then, they were still so pissed and text-bombing me in our whatsapp group immediately. well, i have nothing to against them so i just deleted those picture soon as they begged me to.
So speaking of which, this is what they called “Privatsphäre” in germans, or sphere of personal privacy in english. the thing is, not only my friends but almost all germans are kind of strict about it, cause they just simply dont feel comfortable about being in social media (even if no one’s gonna care about them if i put them in my insta story zum Beispiel), even worst, people can sue you if youre not so careful and aware about it.
and now take a look at indonesians. has anyone ever seen dian sastro wardoyo’s jahitan instastory or marissa haque’s instagram album? that was freaking hilarious. i just cant tell whether indonesians are careless narcistic type of human being or theyre just simply born to show off. if i went to just hanging out with my pals, they would we would at least post something in instastory. not being a hypocrite, i did this as well. and somehow my temen-temen bule seems sort of annoyed since this things becoming my daily activities. eventho i did it only if theres a special ocassion, i mean, nicht immer. but yeah, im tired of people judging me in a way like i’m a fuckin socmed junkie, and i dont like the idea of it, so ive always think twice about what im gonna publish in my account. yet somehow i still dont know how to tell them that its not that i am a socmed bitch, but its just a matter of different circumstances. For me personally, its totally normal, cause my friends do that as well. But for my bule friends might be the other way around. Well, what can i say, im not God, i cant please everyone at the same time. So i guess the best thing to do is to reach the fairness for everyone who participates on the party. Hence, in order to reach everyone’s welfare and peacefulness, aku menyembunyikan instastory from orang-orang yang uncomfortable with this stuffs. regardless my family.
now if we're talking about Social Media in another aspect, i found a very trivial point of view that happens in my country which is; judging people from shits they posted on their social media or even their tone feeds on instagram. this is somehow sickening my head.
despite of cybercrimes that happened alot through Internet, social media bring us lots of advantages. nowadays, people are using social medias not only to inform them about whats just currently happening in our world but also to earn some bucks. like online shop, endorsement for instaceleb, or promoting artists and musician’s masterpiece. especially in art and fashion's section. if youre living or working in entertainment world, you need slash have to had at least one social media to advertise and sell both your self and your shits. cause lets be blunt, television is just not enough anymore in our digital era. The bottom line is, the more interesting your social pages are, the more viral things you could make, the closer it is for you to become famous. its not so strange seeing lots of social media influencer spending lots of money just to buy expensive cameras so that they can have a so-they-called-instagrammable-picture and post it on their account. the biggest following impact of this phenomena occurrd in electronic industry as this needs of having a fancy gadget is slowly emerging. starts from Instax, Go Pro, Fujifilm or any other kind of mirrorless. The main point that we have to put in our mind is, that living in this life style is definitely not cheap. Yet people will still do anything to buy unimportant things to please people who actually dont even care about their shits, so that they could fit in.
maybe some people might see already how scary it is, how globalisation forced us to be consumtive and changed ourself into someone we’re not. The worst case might be, if the milaneals cant afford this expensive life style, and the number of crime will probably increase. And im not sure if there’s any instant solution for these big worrying cases. But i guess we need to do something. Otherwise lots of new problems will occur in the mean time. Im just hoping that the existence of Internet doesn’t change the value of ourselves and how we see the world as well in the next following years.
