I would give credit to that to an old friend I haven't seen in a decade now. He used to go by the handle of his character, Grakor, one of many orcs he RPed as in WoW RP.

Prior to that, the only RP experience I had in public spaces I had were in AOL chatrooms; however, AOL was already dead as the 2000s went on, so RP tended to be private or limited to forums--and said forums were already composed of just my tiny circle of friends. So when I was introduced to WoW RP in 2011, long into being in college and working, it would be my first time RPing not only in a public space, but with complete strangers unfamiliar with my writing style.

Imagine RPing for almost 10 years by that point, and then being told by an administrator of the community, in one interaction, "...You're new to RP, aren't you?" BOY, I was embarrassed LMAO. But yes, that admin was Grakor. He was more than happy to show me the ropes of RPing in the community, alongside others who were long mainstays of the server.

Within just a few weeks, I not only became a better RPer, but I was making myself a name within the community; within just 4-ish months, I was invited and accepted into the position of a GM because I often ran events and other social scenarios that weren't just war war war in the World of Warcraft. And throughout that time, through thick and thin, I grew as a person, with Grak as our leader. In turn, we became each others' confidants.

When our server was shut down due to a DMCA, we sadly parted ways. While most of the community can be found in a different place there, and I still RP there, not having Grakor around felt like having a hole I can't fill. Especially as he influenced so much of who I am now.

So wherever you are, Grak, I miss you and I hope you're well. My orcs wouldn't be who they are now if it weren't for yours. And you were definitely an inspiration to some of my current writings and characters.

hi ! i'm chase and i do just want to say before i get into this intro that i am super rusty .. i haven't rped in about four years and have also not been on tumblr in about two years on top of that, so please be patient with me when it comes to this new layout and relearning everything 🙏 anyways ! down below is a little bit about jonnie's background and personality, plus some plots !

jonnie grew up in new york city, he was born to a mother who was better off as a single mom considering his father was an abusive shitbag.

besides the obvious Daddy Issues, his mother was as good of a mother as she could've been for him. she worked multiple jobs to keep a roof over their heads and food on the table.

however, because of that, she wasn't home much and jonnie wanted to spend as little time as he could with his father. this meant he spent a lot of free time at his neighborhood's community center where he hung out with kids older than him that introduced him to The Cool Kid™️ music. this is where his passion for music really took off.

at age 10 he began to fuck around on the center's rickety old drum kit and would perform for anyone who would listen. of course he wasn't good, but that never stopped him. music and learning it was an escape and freedom he'd never felt before and that was something he realized he didn't want to give up.

as he aged, he spent less and less time at home. enough to the point he was even estranged from his mother whom he loved more than anyone else.

personally, he never found anything wrong with it, he wanted freedom from a place he wasn't safe in, so by the time he was 16, he was completely moved out of his parents' place and couch surfing through his friends for the remaining years of high school.

school wasn't necessarily his strong suit, he wasn't Bad per say, but he just had a huge lack of focus because as a teenager struggling to stay afloat without any support, there was a lot more on his mind than doing the best he could. which basically means he didn't apply himself nearly as much as he probably should have.

despite the lack of any sort of structure or support in his life, he still managed to somehow weasel his way into university .. but only for a year or so before he dropped out, realizing pursuing something that wasn't music never felt right to him.

after dropping out he worked at a shitty deli getting yelled at by white soccer moms for not putting enough arugula on their sandwich.

every other second, he was working on music whether alone or with the band.

he hasn't spoken to his parents since he moved out, his mother has tried to reach out to him on multiple occasions, but his excuse is he's busy when in reality he's not Ready to face that shit.

personality.

jonnie is an extremely easygoing dude, he's never one to take something too seriously and is definitely the type to know absolutely nothing about anything

he's pretty oblivious ? mainly because he's stoned 80% of the time and he also hates thinking .. coping mechanism 💪

LOOOOVES to talk .. will talk ur ear off about everything

he is a major Loser .. laughs too loud at stupid shit, will tell u bad jokes, has horrible style unless he is styled by someone else and i mean horrible. like patterned button ups and khaki shorts and SANDALS .. help him ..

can get pretty reckless because he loves doing stupid shit

hates being serious like. would rather die because being serious means actually having to think about how he feels and he hates doing that shit more than anything .. as u can tell he has a lot of Repressed trauma ..

he can be Unintentionally flirty .. he definitely doesn't try to be, but it's just part of how he acts and most of the time he doesn't realize he's doing it. like pulling a Wow Ur Eyes Are So Pretty in the middle of a conversion because he Just noticed and can't keep his mouth shut

he has a hard time understanding love .. it's sort of a foreign concept to him ? it's not that he doesn't believe in it per say, but he's never been shown a positive romantic relationship .. so he doesn't know how to navigate one

can be pretty clumsy like trip over his own feet clumsy

he's like .. a himbo meets dude bro meet shaggy from scooby doo all mixed into one ..

wanted connections.

confidant: as much as he trusts his bandmates, i think having someone outside of them that he can talk to and be real with would be really good for him

mentor / role model: i have a current wc on the main for it, but this person would've been jonnie's first real introduction to music and the reason he wanted to be a drummer ( so the muse would have to play the drums ) and after joining revolution they became like a parental figure to him

flings: i mentioned in my application that i was unsure of his sexuality, so i think it'd be super interesting to see him explore it within the group !

enemy / rival / someone to dislike: also mentioned in my app that as much as jonnie is a easygoing person, i think it'd be interesting to see him have someone or a couple people that just don't vibe with him and how he acts, so they're always at each other's throats and they bring out the Non Chill side of him

high school buddy: this is most likely someone who he lived with for a period of time while he was couch surfing .. they could've stayed friends or maybe tiffed with each other and that's why he moved in with someone else .. possibilities = endless

an ex: for obvious reasons this did not work out .. they could still be friendly, could be on rocky terms, whatever

a sibling figure: maybe someone he takes care of and vice versa

partner in crime: someone he just gets into shit with

honestly anything else ? like i mentioned before i'm a bit rusty, so coming up with a lot of plots was a little 😵‍💫 for me so i'm down to just vibe a plot or just vibe in general and see where chem takes our muses !

"Why didn't anyone wake me..." Charlotte yawns out.

Charlotte hadn't recalled when she fell fast asleep. Drowsy eyelids slowly open up and she recognizes the environment she was in, the House. She feels a heavy weight on her stomach and the cause was a sci-fi almanac. In her drowsy state she perks up upon hearing Felix's voice.

"F-Felix?! You frightened me," a hand was on her chest as if to soothe her fast heart rate, "you didn't want to wake me? Ahaha, you should've! I'm supposed to look after you, after all..."

She feels her chest swelling up with anxiety. Was it the anxiety medication that caused her to be so tired that she passed out? Or was it her illness... Charlotte wish she had the answers but didn't want to discuss any of it to any of the tenants. It was her problem alone, no one elses.

“ You know, I don’t need you for that. ” He feels mocked at the way she said that; even if he knew she didn’t mean it like that. (she never did, she’s too nice for that.)

“ I can take care of myself, thank you. ”

He sighs softly, fiddling with his gloves. “Besides, you were sleeping pretty deeply..” He’d just felt bad if he’d woken her up. He was in no rush, well he was always normally but. Just sitting here had been nice, even if he supposed it was weird to just watch someone sleep. It’d been kind of calming though.

1. How many works do you have on AO3? Apparently I'm up to 12 at this point lol

2. What’s your total AO3 word count? 14554 (Think they're all one shots, though I do currently have something longer I'm working on)

3. What are your top 5 fics by kudos? So, I wrote Making Use as a fic prompt response not long after The Force Awakens came out, and I think it must've been one of a small number of Reyux fics at that time because that thing TOOK OFF. It's got 441 kudos on it and still accumulates some here and there periodically. Like, I don't even like it that much but I'm glad it makes people happy, haha.

That's followed by A Certain Comfort (Phasma/Hux, 127) and a few Batman universe fics (Locard's Principle, 86; Metaphorically, 76; Mistakes, 70.)

4. Do you respond to comments? Why or why not? Yeah, I try to respond to all of my commenters, though I haven't always in the past. If they leave something really excited sometimes I let it sit for a bit so I can properly match their energy.

5. What’s the fic you’ve written with the angstiest ending? I write a lot of angsty stuff but don't usually leave it on that note. Looking at ending alone, probably Mistakes; it's a Crane/Harley fic I wrote some years back about her coming to stay with him while still in an abusive relationship with Joker. Lots of unrequited pining there; very hurt/no comfort.

6. What’s the fic you’ve written with the happiest ending? ...This is making me realize that I don't write a lot of fics that end happily vs. things have slightly improved, I guess. I suppose Better to Be Wrecked, my SW/Quinn fic, is technically rather optimistic because it's basically a meditation on him contemplating suicide over the years and then getting treated mercifully by the woman he loves at the end, haha. Some of the stuff I wrote for Gotham (before that show went off the rails, woof) is kind of positive in outlook too.

7. Do you write crossovers? Nah, I'm more into exploring characters in the context of their own settings.

8. Have you ever received hate on a fic? Nah, thankfully.

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind? I've done text RP for years, and written a fair amount of smut collaboratively, but up until more recently I haven't really considered putting it into fic, lol (as @nirikeehan is wont to say--be the smut you want to see in the world!) There's the implication of it in Better to Be Wrecked and I've got something more explicit with that ship in my WIPs at the moment.

10. Have you ever had a fic stolen? No. Fwiw, if you want to reference my OCs or worldbuilding stuff or whatever, feel free to ask.

11. Have you ever had a fic translated? Don't think so. Someone recorded a read of Mistakes once, which was pretty cool.

12. Have you ever co-written a fic before? Nope, but I've beta'd for Niri and I wrote a scene that's part of the backstory of her fic The Force's Will (which like, if you like Hux being smart and calculating and capable, Reylo, Poe being a badass, or at all want a take on the future after TLJ that's infinitely better than whatever the hell TROS was--read it. It's great.)

13. What’s your all time favourite ship? I can never pick one favorite, lol--honestly it's easier for me to express what ships I really don't like. For instance, having spent a lot of time in the fandom for the new trilogy, I really have zero interest in Kylux--I see their relationship as more of a complicated platonic/vaguely familial thing. (Weirdly, the ship I was probably most into with Hux was when I RPed him with a younger Leia, because they were a really incredible intellectual match for each other. I can also get behind several m/f ships with him and Hux/Poe, haha.)

I'm currently neck-deep in SWTOR and Quinn/SW is sitting in my 'favorite' slot right now, lol.

14. What’s a WIP that you want to finish, but don’t think you ever will? I have a lot of WIPs kicking around for Quinn/SW that I may or may not finish but I'd like to. There's definitely a lot of things I've got from different fandoms that I start and never complete, and I'm trying to get better about that.

15. What are your writing strengths? /checks the comments on my stuff, lol

I've been told I'm good at characterization (which like, good, because when I get into a character I'm inundating poor Niri with paragraphs of speculation about their inner lives, lol.) Honestly, the most treasured comment I got back when I was doing online RP was when I was playing a setting-native OC and was told 'he's so well-developed that I keep forgetting he's not actually part of canon'. Especially as someone who remembers a time when OCs were constantly being accused of being Mary Sues or whatever, that meant a lot.

I also think I'm pretty good at connecting ideas through the course of a fic; in one shots, I love starting with a simple notion (sometimes from the first line, e.g. "Hux was not afraid of him"; "Quinn had grown accustomed to contemplating his own death") and deconstructing/reconstructing it in different ways. A lot of the fics that influenced me early on were highly thematic and downright lyrical, so that influenced my writing quite a bit.

16. What are your writing weaknesses? As I've been writing a longer, more actiony WIP lately (my upcoming Imperial Agent fic), I've been struggling at times to find a good balance in terms of how descriptive I want to be--like, where to really move the action and where to let the characters talk and breathe. The plot's hashed out; it's just a matter of figuring out how to get from A to B, scene to scene, in part because I haven't written something super lengthy in years.

I get really particular and perfectionistic with dialogue too, sometimes; if you struggle with that as well, I find that voice-acting it to myself helps (like, literally when proofing that fic I've been doing the British accents to get the cadence right; sometimes I crack myself up when they're just perfectly sassy.)

And, you know, actually finishing stuff is a challenge, lol.

17. What are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? I think if it's an actual language and you're not fluent, it's best to run it past someone who is since Google Translate is Not Great much of the time. Usually I'll just indicate that the characters are speaking another language and try to represent when something comes up that doesn't have an English equivalent; you don't want to distract the reader to the point that they have to dig for footnotes but you also don't want to totally erase some of that contextual information.

I've seen this done well with an untranslatable word here or there (that, again, you can mostly deduce from context clues) and with short, subtle remarks that a character is using a familiar form of address or something. And yeah, in sci fi/fantasy stuff, I'll either do those things or repurpose slang on occasion to keep the immersion going (e.g. my Star Wars characters say the likes of 'stars forbid' or 'bantha shit' a lot as a 'they're from a different place with different belief systems' nod.)

18. What was the first fandom you wrote for? Lol I was writing like, shitty Sonic the Hedgehog fanfic back in elementary school and such so I guess that counts? My earliest stuff on ao3 is Batman fic; I got super into the Nolan movies years back and kind of entered the larger fandom from there.

19. What’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet, but want to? Well, I've got like two different unfinished projects with Imperial Agent/Shara Jenn so I hope to grace the world with those two, lol. (She's so gooooood.)

20. What’s your favourite fic you’ve written? There's a special place in my heart for The Incarnation of Failure. Like, there's no romance in it, it doesn't make my top 5 for hits or kudos, but it's effectively a humanizing love letter to Hux and Phasma and the First Order in general in the aftermath of TFA. I'm still sad about how their potential was squandered by the canon, but in my own mind, this fic is part of my canon.

Character in general: I’ve watched Cat grow for a couple of years now and gotta say, I love what you did with her. She went through a lot of character development - had her ups and downs and I quite love how well thought out your AU’s for her are!How they play them: Obviously no one can play that lazy gamer girl better than you. Probably because you gave your muse a mutual interest. So you know how the gaming scene works and you can corporate that well into RP. The Mun: Brie is downright the chillest person ever. It’s so easy to nerd out with you, or just casually talk about Oc’s or even things you have never heard of. I love how you show interest in anything but I hate the foodporn you keep posting. Makes me hungry man. Jokes aside, if you wanna nerd out about games or get your ass kicked in Pokemon showndown, Brie’s the one.

Overall Opinion: Cat is a character, the mun has obviously put lots of thought and care into. You implemented your own interests into her, which shows! You are really passionate with every reply, and each AU gives Cat a new version that fits just as well as the original. The Mun is someone you can spend hours with talking to, plotting or playing games. Kind, patient and deep in their heart, still a big child. Like most of us. I have never seen Brie judge anyone who didn’t deserve it, they’re always fair and a loyal friend ❤
