HOW DO I COMPLAIN TO HOYOVERSE?

It's easy, and there are MULTIPLE things you can do! I recommend doing each item on this list.

1. SIGN & SHARE THE PETITION

The petition will be delivered to the appropriate cultural reps, in order to complain to the CCP about the negative impression this is leaving on Chinese companies. Genshin Impact is highly favoured by the government for the positive press it gives the country, and putting pressure on the 'big daddy' is FAR more likely to make Hoyoverse buckle.

As of right now, the petition has nearly 38k signatures.

2. EMAIL HOYOVERSE

Email them directly at genshin_cs@hoyoverse.com to state how this has affected your desire to continue playing their games.

3. USE THE IN-GAME SURVEY OR FEEDBACK

Genshin Impact has frequent update surveys, and there is a permanent option to give feedback at any time. You can find it in the Paimon Menu.

4. REVIEW BOMB

Rate Hoyoverse's games, particularly Genshin, with one star on the app store. This has already proven in the past to have an effect, when this caused the team to review the anniversary rewards.

5. POST IN OFFICIAL HOYOVERSE ACCOUNTS' COMMENTS

Do not be silent! Speak up about your displeasure. It's important that these comments outweigh the rest! Show that we are the MAJORITY.

6. SPEAK UP

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?

It's easy to dismiss this in the face of 'more important' issues in the world at the moment, but Genshin Impact (And by extension, Hoyoverse) is a very influential game and company. It is extremely popular, and directly influences MANY other games and players through this popularity.

This isn't an issue of 'just stop playing'- This is not anger for a game's decisions, it's anger for a precedent. It's a demand that not only should Hoyoverse care about representation, but other, smaller, companies too. If Hoyoverse can get away with it, so can others- But if Hoyoverse is held accountable for their exploitation of culture, then it sets the precedent that other companies have no chance of doing the same.

Like it or not, Hoyoverse has a lot of influence, and the CCP itself values the company for giving China a positive image in other countries. This is bigger than just being mad at character design.

EDIT: It was also pointed out to me that if POC were to simply stop engaging with hostile content, they would have nothing left. 'Just stop playing' isn't fair, plain and simple. POC deserve to play the things that they enjoy WITHOUT being ostracized.

DOES HOYOVERSE LISTEN?

They listen if there's no money lining their pockets, they listen if their reputation is damaged, and they listen if the CCP gets involved. We have direct evidence of this.

Review bombing alone caused Hoyoverse to reconsider the first anniversary rewards.

The CCP forced Hoyoverse to reskin various characters to comply with their laws, which HYV did. (This isn't necessarily a good thing, however, it is still evidence that CCP has influence over them.)

This is by far the largest outcry the company has seen so far, and MANY of HYV's voice actors have spoken out in support for the movement as well. This is not just playerbase complaints, but staff, too.

I recommend following AvenOfStrats on X/Twitter for further updates on the petition's progress, and on other ways to contribute. They also share plenty of resources on why this is important, and guides on how to complain.

My Conspiracy Theory about Natlan's Pale Characters

I started playing Genshin Impact around the 3.7 update, right after the Interdarshan Championship. While I wasn't around during the initial spark of outrage against Sumeru due to the characters' overall lack of melanin, I eventually learned a lot about Sumeru's cultural inspirations through the SWANA and South Asian creators in the fandom. I think it's beautiful how we learn about each other's cultures through Genshin, and I believe the designers at Hoyoverse do lots of research to facilitate these conversations. This is why I think it's a shame that Natlan, which features rich Indigenous cultures in the Americas, Africa, and Pacific Islands, features primarily pale characters AGAIN.

While it's possible that through the art, story, and fashion of Natlan we will once again learn about the diverse cultures of Indigenous Americas, West Africa, and the Pacific Islands, I don't think it's enough. Considering a lot of these cultures take pride in their skin color and bodies through tattoos, body paint, and other markings/piercings, Hoyoverse is doing a disservice to today's Latin American, African, and Pacific islander fan base by making the majority of Natlan characters pale. To insensitively cherry-pick what traits of each culture to represent and what to discard is the definition of cultural appropriation and racism, which is such a shame because of how many discussions about culture that Genshin has started since 2020. As a Chinese American player, I'm especially disappointed that the company who educated so many people about my culture is failing my brown and Black friends to such a spectacular degree.

Many people have come up with excuses such as it's just skin, it's just a game, Hoyoverse is a Chinese company so what do you expect, Latin America also has white people, etc. I won't bother debunking these myths because there are plenty of people doing this labor already, but what I do want to bring people's attention to is the fact that many Natlan characters were most likely designed with darker skin in mind. Through fanmade recolorings (here's an example), I noticed that Mualani and Kachina's tan lines and skin details look more pronounced with darker skin, while Xilonen looks more mature and Kinich looks more brooding. Having studied studio art during undergrad, I cannot unsee these intentional artistic decisions and cannot shake the possibility that the researchers and character designers of Hoyoverse were forced by higherups to whitewash everyone at the very last minute. If this is true, I hope Hoyoverse will find some way to reverse their decision or turn a new leaf in the future. Considering many other Chinese games like Reverse: 1999 and Dislyte already have diverse representation and melanated characters, Hoyoverse should find no problem following their lead.

As of right now (i.e. 4.8 update), Genshin players from all over the world are expressing their dissatisfaction with Hoyoverse through boycotts, review bombing, and posting on social media. The Chinese fanbase - Hoyoverse's primary audience - is especially vocal and organized about their efforts, which means if Hoyoverse doesn't notice now, they will notice soon. Despite how much we like using Genshin as an escape from real life, it's important to recognize how insidious the consequences of erasing melanated characters can be. Anti-Blackness and colorism harm people on the daily, which is why we must speak up when a company as big and influential as Hoyoverse is doing the harming.

Hi hi!!

This is gonna be a whole guide on how to and how not to boycott hoyoverse!! Also to answer some questions and educate people as best as I can!!

Firstly: why are we boycotting hoyoverse?

Mainly because Hoyoverse has (and is continuing to) ignored the complaints people have about the lack of representation and diversity in the entirety of their all their games, including Zenless Zone Zero, Tears of Themis, Honkai: Star Rail, Honkai impact 3rd, and mainly Genshin Impact. They also have a history of being racist in all of those games, and flat out refusing to give playable characters diverse skin tones.

Why is this bad?

Taking cultures for aesthetics in a video game is just… blatantly racist, and there’s no excuse for Hoyoverse to do this, because there are other Chinese companies that have made dark skinned characters. To name a few, Riot games, Lilith games, and Bluepoch. Hoyoverse is known to take cultures for their games but not give proper representation, make slavery jokes, be passively racist and stereotype cultures, and just overall be… not greatttt.

Can I still play Hoyoverse games?

Yes! Play Hoyoverse games, interact with fan content, just do not give any money to Hoyoverse! That’s completely like… counterproductive to what we’re trying to do here which is make Hoyoverse lose money, so they fix their issues!

How to boycott!! (I got a lot of these from @ nyaamari on Twitter, whose post inspired me to make this thread!)

Dos!:

Do spread awareness as much as you can!

Listen, and educate yourself based on the people whose cultures have been outright stolen by Hoyoverse.

Submit complaints through the in game surveys or feedback.

Review Hoyoverse games on the App Store! Don’t go review bombing other games, just Hoyoverse owned ones!

Speak over other people of the cultures Hoyoverse has stolen from!

Buy any official merch from Hoyoverse collabs!! Also use this as an excuse to support a small business that isn’t partnered with Hoyoverse or anything and get some sick ass merch from them instead!!

Harass Va’s and assume they haven’t spoken up! A lot of Va’s have spoken up already, and are completely on our side with this one!! Just please don’t harass them, the Genshin fandom specifically has a notorious issue with harassing Va’s.

Also please don’t let the Hoyoverse boycott deter you from any of the boycotts going on for Palestine, or just what’s happening in Palestine in general. Hi guys :') To my followers and tumblr friends, I'm really sorry if my sudden disappearance scared or upset you. It wasn't quite... planned. And today was a busy day and I needed some time to consider what I wanted to do.

Short version of the story:

My tumblr account got terminated for copyright infringement. A certain Mr. Green got me in unlucky trouble (ref 1, 2).

I won't get it back, or try to get it back. It's gone.

Needed a moment to consider 2 options: ask Mia to extend my dramatic farewell letter and stay gone, or make a new blog.

Not planning to post new writing here. I won't be using words like 'never' or 'forever' because I'm a known clown with things like this, but the intention is to no longer post fics. I will finish Tickletober on AO3 and then take a break from writing. So yes, I cancel the swiftscribbles event too, sorry!

When I opened my laptop, I could see my old blog in its final hour lmao (I found out about the loss on my phone). So that's what the snap is from on a fitting grave. It was fun while it lasted!

Long version of the story:

Losing my blog(s): My Tumblr account with main blog + sideblogs got terminated overnight, it was quite the surprise! I've either been reported or tracked by bots. The posts are a bunch of numbered URLs I can't open, but the message is clear: for including anime content, genshin impact or media from other sources (whether it's videos, screenshots, official art, gifs or even fanwork) you technically can get a strike. Upon googling the claimer I quickly found this first, and knew it was a lost cause. Although it feels shitty and unlucky, I am in no place to appeal. It's like when I used to make AMVs in the past, you never knew whether a song or even anime footage was going to give your YT account a copyright strike or even a ban, it was a gamble. I have lost YT accounts before, and now I lost the Tumblr one. With 7+ years of tickle trash content and a bunch of sideblogs. But oh well, moving on!

Starting a new blog: It was a serious consideration whether this was my ultimate chance to do what I've always said I wanted to do eventually - quit my blog. My first thought was to ask Mia to share my explanation and literal goodbye with you guys, and stick to my chaos of a Twitter account to indulge in fandom stuff. But then I thought of how happy Tumblr made me, even without the fic writing, but just.. reblogging things, getting random asks, shouting about life and of course, about tickles. I decided to make a new blog after all, but also decided the following:

The 7K+ milestone swiftscribbles event is cancelled, for which I apologize! The follower milestone, together with the motivation to write the fics, and even the asks with the requests I got, all died with my former blog.

I will see how long I can survive without posting a new fic or drabble. A loose headcanon or two might fly around sometime. And if necessary, a link to a new fic on AO3.

Tickletober? Hell yes I'll finish it, I would cringe in bed for 49 days at least if I would stop. I just won't post the fics here, but on AO3.

Reposting/reblogging my old works? Undecided at the moment but I'm tired and lazy. I don't feel too upset since most of my fics are still on AO3 at least and not completely gone.

Anyways, I'll see what happens and how long I can enjoy this nerfed version of blogging.

Surprisingly I'm not upset about losing my other blog, there were a lot of memories but it was also very cringe. I'm gonna be just as cringe here, but at least I feel cleansed.

Calcium Carbonate [CaCO3] is a week-long event organized by fans and for fans of BedoBedo.

This ship includes Albedo and his fellow alchemical creations, such as Subject 2 and the Fellflower. If the character was created by Rhinedottir and looks like Albedo, they qualify for this ship. Any combination of Albedo and Albedo-like characters are welcome.

This ship week is meant to focus on the non-platonic relationship between Albedo, Subject 2, and the Fellflower, as there has already been an event dedicated to the platonic/familial interpretation of this ship. However, participants are welcome to interpret the ship however they like. We only ask that participants respect other participants’ views during the event to keep everything peaceful and fun. This week was not organized to cause discourse or tension between fans. It is only meant to give fans who enjoy the non-platonic interpretation of the ship a place to share their work and connect.

Please be warned that the in-game relationship between Albedo, Subject 2, and the Fellflower can and will likely inspire content by participants that would fall under the Dead Dove category. Reminder that Albedo is the first playable Genshin Impact character to actively stab another character on-screen. Therefore, violence, gore and angst are possible and will be allowed during this event as long as it is properly tagged. Because of this, we ask that everyone who submits such content for the event be at least 18+.

The event is currently set to be held on Tumblr and AO3 only. This is due to the current instability of Twitter as a platform. Since we can't ensure the site will still be functional for the duration of the event, we are choosing not to run an official account for it there. The event will proceed just as all prompt based ship weeks do: participants will post their works during the event using the official event tags (“#CaCO3Week2023” and  “#BedoBedoWeek2023”). Only submissions that follow the event rules (Desktop / Mobile)   will be shared on the official Tumblr account for the event. Participants are free to post their works on other social media platforms using the tags, just know there is not a dedicated account for sharing them anywhere except on Tumblr.

Participants are encouraged to use the prompts for inspiration for their works. They are also welcome to use the prompts out of order if they choose. While the prompts are separated between Open-Ended and NSFW, participants are allowed to mix and match between the two lists. i actually tried to get into Tears of Themis! specifcally because Artem looked like You Know Who. i didn't get very far into it (gachas don't appeal to me anymore, don't ask me how much i've spent on Genshin Impact) but i was actually surprised how much i ended up like Vyn. never found out what his deal was but i love evil scientist archetypes lmao. another issue i had with the game was that Luke and Marius had absolutely no appeal to me; at least in Mysme, charas i'm not romantically inclined towards like Yoosung and Luciel still interested me because they were fun and complex characters beyond their attractiveness and "fix me" suffering. maybe it was because i never got past a certain point in the game, but those two from ToT just never grabbed my interest : \

rn i'm playing DoL, it's basically a porn game that includes a BUNCH of really dark topics. like, even if you don't have triggers, look up the triggers for this game, it is not for those with weak stomachs. that said, all the sex scenes aside, it does have romance interests in it you can date, a compelling plot, as well as a staggering amount of player agency to do with what you will in the town and surrounding forest/land/ocean. again, do you're research before picking this game up or you will be in for a bad time

It seems that once more I must hop on the bandwagon of informing people of “artists” who pride themselves on tracing/stealing another’s work.

Please note this post is not to encourage hateful behaviour or violence of any sort towards the individual mentioned. This is simply a post to inform in hopes that people become aware of this unfortunate situation.

Today is the birthday of Genshin Impact character Kamisato Ayato and as per the tradition that Genshin Impact keeps up, a birthday art is made for that character by a fan (mainly a creator in their content creator program). This time it seems that Genshin Impact unknowingly chose an individual who is notorious for tracing/stealing designs of artists. I doubt that HoYo knew of their involvement in theft and tracing but it certainly does not look good considering Genshin’s record as of late- especially after the recent incident involving many of their VAs. This is yet again another stain on the already quite dirty Genshin Impact name, while HoYo is likely unaware of this fact, the fans were quick to take notice and inform the fandom on Twitter, some even pinging Genshin Impact’s official Twitter account.

While this is not anything new considering the Ugigiugi situation in the TWST community, it is still a sad thing to witness as an artist. I like to take inspiration from what I see- never trace. However sometimes tracing can be a good thing, how so you ask? Simple, by using it for practice. That is how I learned to draw, I used it to memorize proportions and positioning- a trick I learned in 5th grade art class as a child. Now I no longer need it and I can draw smoothly with only looking at a reference pose using a 3D model. Never once did I post the “traced” work I made back then (I was quite young and did not have the technology).

In the end I suppose one can only spread awareness in hopes to eventually tackle this problem once and for all but alas we all know that it may never be truly solved. Never hurts to make a little bit of noise about it, eh?

An Introduction ☆

Hello there! I usually go by Cyan, Cy, Ranbus or Boober but I'm usually fine with any other names/nicknames! I'm a minor and I use all pronouns (neos included). I've had this account for a few months now but I've decided to move to here officially because of the situation on twitter at the moment.

What I plan to post about:

Fandoms I'm in are probably the main thing that are gonna get posted about on here (mainly rants/headcanons about my favorite characters) but I'm also considering doing writing and posting art on here as well! I've always wanted to get into both those things and I think joining tumblr would be a good opportunity to learn and explore those hobbies!
