"Yeah," Carmen let out a breathy laugh as he reached for the counter over Sydney's head for ground cinnamon, "Fak got it f'me as like a housewarming gift. Haven't used it once." He carefully poured in 4 teaspoons of cinnamon into a bowl of brown sugar and flour.

Sydney and Carmen had been flipping through endless amounts of basic and generic desserts, just to see if they'd have the inspiration to spice any of them up. But nothing seemed to light that spark of motivation. So, they were left with coffee cake as a last resort.

"I mean, no hate against jello. It's pretty, but.." Sydney trailed off as she poured a cup of cool, melted butter into that same bowl. Her and Carmen had a tendency to insist that everything had to be a 2 person job.

"But it's not coffee cake." Carmen turned his head to Sydney, finishing her sentence for her. Her lips curled up into a smile, her front teeth slightly visible while she nodded her head and looked right into Carmen's eyes in agreement.

"Yeah. Or, y'know, a cannoli."

"Jesus, Sydney. Stop." Carmen shook his head, smiling hard as he kept his eyes glued to the counter in hopes that Sydney wouldn't notice that he was laughing at her mean jokes.

"You know I'm not letting that go!" She glanced at Carmen again, the sunlight beaming from the window reflecting on his gold chain that poked out from underneath his black sweater. It was almost like her sign to look away; her sign that Carmen would look right back at her.

It was her sign that she'd fall apart if their eyes locked, and she'd have to build herself back up the second he turned away.

Zhongli x Guizhong

I've shipped them pretty much since I started playing the game in 2021. I got super invested into Zhongli's lore and eventually came across her name. Then I started digging deeper into her lore and theories about her and fell in love with her and the ship.

I suppose this is something of a niche ship? Especially now with the new Lantern Rite where GuiPing seems to have overtaken it. And I've already seen people attacked over shipping GuiLi because of that too on twt now... cause apparently it's homophobic to ship them now? Idk... make it make sense. This is why I usually stay out of this.

2. Cyno x Tighnari

These two... I swear Sumeru has changed me somehow because as I stated in prior asks: I'm usually not into shipping characters so whenever I start liking two characters I have a sort of "denial stage" at first where I'm like "nah, I don't ship them... or maybe... no.... yes?".

And at first I was like "yeah they're best friends, whatever"... then I saw more and more fanart and was like "yeah, you know what, they're kinda cute." and eventually fanart converted me into shipping them. So, good job fanartists - the domestic and cuddly scenarios you put them in made me cave 👌🏻

3. Alhaitham x Kaveh

This one also seems to be quite popular and I basically just got past the above mentioned denial stage, haha! 😂

I have to admit I couldn't stand Kaveh at all at first, he seemed like a handful and I was like "yeah, they'd never get along in a million years, especially not as a couple."

Then I played Haitham's story quest and saw the interaction with Kaveh... then I saw more fanart again. Then [insert denial stage here] and I guess I'm now at the point where I can say, yeah... I like them and I also like Kaveh now... he is just such a kindhearted soul (even if he is a bit eccentric, I suppose).

I want to mention that I am really lost when it comes to shipping terminology and I also don't really want to get involved in all that stuff. It's all a bit too stressful for me.

I do want to draw fanart of these ships but I'm a bit too scared to do so and only drew things that could be interpreted as both ship or platonic (they're posted on my art blog, I'll keep this blog clear of that). Because I've seen how vile shippers get towards other ships at times when they don't like the portrayed one... instead of - you know - ignoring it??? Especially on twt.

And don't get me started on some "rules" people have put up for shipping. Like, just let me have the idea of two fictional characters being all lovey-dovey. If it makes me or anyone else happy, who cares? (as long as it isn't problematic ships ofc...)

I never intend to write ship fanfic however since that is something I also don't enjoy consuming myself. I always preferred self-insert 🤷🏻‍♀️

Wtf? ''Kaneki is only with Touka because Hide is dead''. I'm anti touken but that's bullshit. They're friends, just friends. Kaneki's never showed any romantic interest in Hide (or anyone else, including Touka, in series).

You know, that post was just me being salty and any other day I would just shrug it off and and answer this as: yeah idc. 

But… People keeps insisting Hide and Kaneki are only friends. It’s funny to me, because it makes me think they all see their friend the same way Kaneki sees Hide, but the way Kaneki sees Hide is so utterly romantic? 

Maybe it just come from how I understand the world. In the end, that’s it, every interpretation is proyecting in some way or another. But I have little friends. Close ones? Probs ten, that including online folks. When I got into high school, I was friendless, zero. In the last year I met this wonderful people, a girl and a boy. They became my best friends. 

And even when we moved, I never felt “consumed by the desire to see them again.”

Because in friendship, closeness doesn’t really matter. You miss your friends and you want to be close with them, and goddamn, sometimes I wish I could have them every day next to me. But to be “consumed by the desire to see them again”?? 

That’s such a heavy shit. 

It sounds so romantic as well. I don’t know. Even if I felt that way, I think I could never said it out loud. Unless of course I don’t mind being romantically involved with them. You can say indeed that Kaneki is just being too nostalgic, that he only sees Hide as a bro (btw, I wouldn’t talk about my actual brother this way either, even though I miss him). But it is just so funny to me that a literature student talks about their friend in such a romantic way. Kaneki should know what the words mean and in which context they can be used. 

Then there is the fact that this was said and then IMMEDIATLY after Touka kissed him. 

Let me ask you a question, there would be any doubt in a narrative that a character is second plate, if Kaneki were talking about how much he misses Hinata-chan, his female childhood friend, and then Touka immediatly kisses him? 

And there is also the fact that Kaneki felt “so lonely without him”, that Kaneki thinks that if it weren’t for Hide he wouldn’t even make it, that he says in a light novel: “–But up until now, we’ve been together… maybe this sounds a little dramatic, but to me his existence is something I depend on as much as my heart… If that sort of thing were to disappear, I wouldn’t have anywhere to belong to.”It is the fact that Rize as a hallucination, and as such, Kaneki himself, told him “and your precious Hide-kun” as a separate entity of all his friends”

It is the fact that Hide is literally the person he wants to be, there has been thousand of metas about how Haise was, in many ways, a mimick of Hide, and while I don’t completely agree, I do think Haise is too entusiastic and Hide-like to be a coincidence. 

Yeah. Kaneki totally sees Hide as a bro. Kaneki is a super heterosexual dude who has never wished anything more of his sunshine friend, the guy who literally and figurative has saved him from insanity, more than once. 

Let’s also not forget that tg root a, Ishida approved even if they cut all the good stuff, gaves us an ending where Kaneki explicitely chooses Hide over Touka. 

(We’ll always have that shitty anime adaptation. And the good music).

I don’t even have to make this shit up. It’s rght there in the text. Hidekane couldn’t be more romantic, and if Hide had a pair of boobs, you’ll see his sacrifices for Kaneki went beyond friendship too (but we’re talking about Kaneki, not Hide). It just annoys me, because if you change any of their genders, they would be the endgame pairing, the pairing you’re clear it’s gonna become canon at the end of the story, people wouldn’t be giving up their hopes on a Hide return, they would be certain that it would happen any day, because shipping. 

But they’re both dudes, and thousand of people keep seeing this guys who would sell the world and themselves for each other, who literally see/saw each other as the reason to keep living (explicitly from Kaneki’s part and implicitly on Hide’s) as a purely platonic friendship. 

Sure, right. 

Man, you guys do have intense friendships. And I thought I was too gay with my best friend. Kudos on you for having relationships this intense. I personally don’t, which may be why I’m biased. My bad. 

To be honest, I’m not really mad that people doesn’t think there is such thing in the text or they don’t like it, that’s okay, I don’t think everyone has to believe Hidekane ever stood a chance. But it does annoys me a bit that people doesn’t even see why people ship Hidekane, as if a strong friendship that develops into romance wasn’t a beautiful concept. 

I’m not saying that Hide being the only thing keeping Kaneki alive is truth now, because it isn’t. Kaneki has a lot of friends now, Kaneki loves them, and Kaneki knows this. But if you think Kaneki has forgotten Hide in any way or form or that Hide isn’t still the most important person in his mind, well, I don’t know, it’s okay that you think that, because, duh, it’s fiction and you can interpret it however you like. But if we know something of Kaneki, is that he feels intensily, and I just find unrealistic that he moves Hide out of that dear place. But again, my interpretation, my gross powerful proyecting. 

Also, you’re technically incorrect. Just because Kaneki clearly didn’t want to be with Touka by the end of TG, doesn’t mean he didn’t have a romantic interest for her at one point. He did. And he does now again, no matter if we think is ooc or incorrect or narratively ecky. Kaneki loves Touka, finito, the text says so. And he also had a crush on her as Haise, there’s that.  

And he has also shown romantic interest to Rize. And you could even argue than Tsukiyama, with intense shipping googles of course, but you can still argue it. xd

please acknowledge canon jack/p*rse for what it really actually is/was ; I think this is a reasonable thing to ask; however, I think a huge part of why there is confusion about the relationship is we actually get a lot of conflicting information about it, like how is ----

“You know when it’s the last summer of your childhood and you’re just hanging with your bro and you’re smoothing out his cowlick and you fondly call him Kenny while trying not to think about how mercilessly cruel fate is lol you know bros being bros” the same as “I didn’t even know we were dating” Camilia

there’s a lot of back and forth with this where Kent was both Jack’s first and closest best friend and also Bitty was the first person he was romantically in love with and yet even with Bitty jack wasn’t really aware of how he felt till last minute. Considering it is already hard enough to differ romantic/platonic love when one is highly emotionally intelligent and Jack isn’t by a long shot and Jack has been an unreliable narrator before its still hard to know just what the relationship was.

to start, i want to get one thing out of the way, whether jack is “reliable” as a narrator or not doesn’t negate the things p*rse did and said in the few panels we’ve seen of him. i won’t budge on that. (not that i’m saying you’re asking me to, i just wanted to make that rly clear for anyone who might get confused by my response below)

i agree there’s a difference between the two (camilla and k*nt) but i also feel like this particular extras excerpt supports the idea of jack/p*rse being more fwb from jack’s POV???? like maybe it’s just my read but, that doesn’t sound like it’s implying hyper-romantic unearthed feelings, more like the circumstances in which they were brought together and taken apart and what their “relationship” entailed was not as it seemed/could’ve been/potentially would’ve been had fate not had other plans, ie. all roads lead to bitty. (otherwise jack wouldn’t be in this story etc) like, maybe fate is cruel for giving jack someone who he should/could love but he just doesn’t in that way, giving him a friend whom he loves and values in a purely platonic way when said friend wants more, fate effectively tainting something that could’ve been something safe and easy had physical intimacy not become a part of the equation. to me, and again i have bias, that’s how i interpret that–especially when taking into account jack’s retelling of the relationship to bitty in canon.

aside from that, i’m also a firm believer in that the outside narrator sympathy doesn’t really change or effect my view?? like?? i’m basing my understanding in canon, wherein bitty’s perspective is the *true* narrative. i don’t know if i can explain this well, but basically, even though bitty has a bias as the main character, it’s his story we’re reading therefore the bias is implicit and shapes the story as canon. so, however ngozi presents k*nt in the comic is how bitty views him, therefore i’m more inclined to believe that over ngozi’s own commentary on k*nt and jack’s relationship. why? bc while the extras and notes could (at any time in any situation) present conflicting information from canon, it’s canon that presents the “true” story, the one we follow and build the universe around.

so while i can respect confusion (because there’s different interpretations, ofc) i feel like there’s enough canon, undeniable evidence to support the idea that jack and p*rse were not in love like people headcanon them to be; such as jack l i t e r a l l y saying so to bitty. idc about emotional intelligence, unless jack was purposefully lying by omission to bitty in an otherwise open and honest conversation…i have a hard time believing that jack felt the same way as is being interpreted by parts of the fandom.
