Cheesy little self-indulgent Pythas sickfic outline with no meaningful plot or character development, just him bantering w Elim. Wanted to give u guys a glimpse of the ooc fluff that's rotting my brain at all times

Pythas wakes up one morning with a cough and Nal is overconcerned as always and tries to convince him to go to the hospital but he brushes her off and says that he will if it gets more serious. She relents but keeps fussing over him. At the next Reunion Project meeting, everyone notices Pythas coughing even though he tries to hide it, and Kelas insists that Pythas come to the hospital for a checkup after the meeting, because smoke inhalation can cause long-term damage that makes burn victims more susceptible to complications from respiratory infections (idk if this is medically true but it seems logical to me). So Kelas examines him and it’s basically just a cold but just in case, he should take it easy until the cough clears and come back for a followup in a week. Kelas sends him home with some cough medicine and instructions to rest and drink lots of water. Elim hears from Kelas that it’s nothing serious, but he still visits Pythas the next day. Nal is out getting groceries or something, and when Elim knocks no one answers. He waits a minute, then breaks in using his super spy skills. Elim walks into Pythas’s bedroom and finds Pythas sitting up in bed. Pythas smiles, checks the time on his tablet, and remarks that it only took Elim 15 minutes—they’ll have to replace their lock to give him more of a challenge next time. Elim huffs incredulously. “It would’ve taken even less time if you had just let me in!” Pythas shrugs. “I didn’t feel like getting out of bed.” His tone is lighthearted, but Elim notices how his voice is rougher than usual. Elim sits on the edge of Pythas’s bed to show him what he’s brought. A few books—“Since you have nothing better to do, I thought you might finally read that book I’ve been recommending.” Pythas doesn’t really like to read, and says as much. Elim insists that Pythas would like this book if only he gave it a chance, and starts to extoll its virtues before Pythas stops him with a noncommittal promise to read it. Elim shakes his head with mock disappointment. “I’ll never understand how you passed First-Level Cardassian Literature.” Pythas smiles that mocking smile and asks what else Elim brought. It’s a tupperware of soup—something herbal-smelling and murky-looking. Elim explains that it’s a Hebitian folk remedy, something that his father—Tolan, not Tain—used to make for him whenever he was ill as a child. Pythas tries it. It’s better than it looks—I imagine it's something like that herbal Chinese chicken soup, but thicker. Elim asks what Pythas was watching on his tablet, and Pythas waves off the question. “May I join you?” Elim asks. Pythas pats the mattress on the other side of him—his blind side. Elim walks around the bed, sits down, and Pythas adjusts the light blanket to cover both of them. When Pythas turns on his tablet again, a TV show starts playing where it left off—a well-known soap opera. Pythas immediately pauses it, embarrassed, while Elim looks at him with the surprise and joy of someone who’s just discovered something new to make fun of their friend for. Elim teases him about it while Pythas closes the show and tries to find something else to watch. They settle on some old action movie—something they can enjoy but also laugh at. Pythas leans against Elim and Elim puts his arm around him. Pythas eats his soup. In a week, he’ll be all better.

ummm i haven't done it but i would. i love how @aevallare used greek as elvish in kindred and if i were writing elvish, i might do the same because it's brilliant. but i'd use cyrillic because i took russian in college.

or i'd write in polish since that's my second language, it just doesn't use a different alphabet which feels like half the fun.

5. satosugu adopt kids (yikes) (jujutsu kaisen) - i feel like every jjk writer has one little self indulgent family fic squirrelled away and here’s mine: firstly i’ve deleted everything to do with curses because they pose too much potential for angsty and also because i can’t write action scenes whdjdj! secondly, gojo steals (legally) megumi (no tsumiki in this au because i’m afraid of how to write her), while getou saves the girls from a bad situation. mostly it’s just daily dramatic domestic shenanigans with some kids :D

“only one of the bunnies is paying him any real attention, happily sniffling at his ankles, and for it’s troubles suguru lifts it up gently, as he makes his way into the living room. he’s sure eventually the rest will get bored and follow. even before he enters, the sounds of national geographic on the television are barely distinguishable from the volume of satoru’s laugh and nanako’s petulant whines.

megumi is sprawled on the floor by the table, one of his two dogs is most definitely in the corner eating his homework, for the third time that week; this time, suguru decides, he will not help the boy try to fix it in a panic before the deadline. satoru should have been a responsible parent and prevented it from happening. the other dog is unsurprisingly, being used as an oversized cushion.”

6. temple au (jujutsu kaisen) - one of my three endgame itafushikugi wips! nobara and megumi help yuuji revive the cult of sukuna after sukuna accidentally messes up and reincarnates into yuuji, nobara realises she has ancestral blood in the cult and megumi stumbles upon the temple while avoiding his own clan issues. it’s a super fun, supernatural au which is more silly than serious tbh.

“nobara was sometimes not unlike a piranhas, less prone to attack than people expected, but easily riled up by the scent of fresh blood.

as though to prove that just sometimes, he was some god’s favourite, their destination comes into sight. amongst the wane light of a waxing moon, the structure stood hulking and proud. it was eerie, with the way the wood gleamed as though newly polished, the shine carmine of the tiled roof. the silence of it. buildings this grand, this intricate, should creak in their foundations, the windows should rattle in their frames, the walls should groan under their load.

they come to a natural stop. nobara somehow manages to rock on her heels despite the uneven mud.

“we’re here.” megumi says, just to be annoying. “

15. watermelon sugar type beat (jujutsu kaisen) - another of the three itafushikugi wips! set semi-canon this time, it’s just a silly one shot (?) spawned from my own hcs for the trio, where they go to sendai and do silly teenage things in yuuji’s hometown! i also wanted to try and write the visiting the grave scene a la chainsaw man. no expert sorry because the state of this wip is best left for my own eyes jsjdjjd (it’s a mess OTL)

19. take a deep breath, take a deep breath, take a deep breath- (genshin impact) - zhongli loosing his gnosis isn’t as straightforward as he explained (or expected) and through plot armour magic shenanigans, our favourite liyue teens have been de-aged at his behest. it’s blatantly an excuse for me to have zhongli play house and maybe if i’m up for it explore his loneliness and detachment for his people and humanity as a whole. anyway, as they saying goes: “from the mouths of babes” for the wisest of introspections.

“zhongli holds hu tao upside down by her ankle. now this would be quite feat perhaps, if he wasn’t a millennia old god and the girl in question had been her normal size. unfortunately, as he listens to her squealing laughter and forces his grip a tad tighter as she shakes in his grasp, hu tao was very much not her normal size.

there are other issues, of course. there’s the fatui mages unconscious on the ground, the remnant sparking of electro over the dark lake of wuwang hill, the other not quite normal sized people clustered around his leg.

“mr zhongli,” xiangling says in a very quite voice, much higher than her usually chirping tenor, “what are we going to do now?” ”

spirited away! -

firstly nonny you’re totally right! i love spirited away and it’s probably one of (if not my number one) favourite movies of all time! funnily enough, despite loving ghibli movies and content, i’ve never thought to or attempted to write a ghibli based fanfic - spirited away included! i feel like most of the time when i write fics it’s because there’s something else from canon my mind wants to run away with and see. however, in the case of spirited away, i don’t think there is? the film and story are so well made and self contained i am want for literally nothing jsjdjd. i could (do) just watch it again and again and enjoy the way things play out. same could be said for other films like howl’s moving castle and kiki’s delivery service, which feature heavily in my other social media accounts (and make up far too much of my personality). but it’s not just ghibli that gives me this vibe funnily enough, some anime/manga i consume also feel complete enough that i’m happy to just leave them be fic free (the shock and horror of it)... others however, i have a personal vendetta to bend to my emotion driven will OTL...

1. as far as im concerned Kagami never left at the end of last game, that was an extended dream sequence... 2. i also totally agree with you that Kagami is prolly vers, if anything, and it was also MY PET PEEVE when people pinholed him into being a forever bottom at the peak of knb hype. 3. you keep teasing your long list of ships for Aomine PLEASE do him for the character thing lol. Omg thank you!! (I agree end of Last Game is not canon… or if it is he came right back the next year or smth I refuse to accept he just left forever. And I’m really glad to see the problem of Uke™ Kagami seems to be in decline these days… fewer people are writing for knb in general, but those that are seem to have an idea what a real gay relationship is or at least make him a fucking person and not a walking stereotype, and that’s encouraging to see). 

Also thanks so much for sending Aomine! …Strap in for this character essay tho I’ve been known to never shut up about this boy once you get me started.

How I feel about this character

I honestly… can’t even explain it anymore or even try to justify it but Aomine has had a bigger impact on me than, I think, any other character I’ve seen to date. I don’t even know what it is, I do relate to him (and project on him *cough*) but like, there are other characters out there that I have more in common with, and I like his whole arc and aesthetic but it’s nothing revolutionary, so… your guess is as good as mine. 

Whatever it is, I’ve been obsessed with this guy for over half a decade, and lately even as the KNB fandom falls into decline, my feelings are not they’re just getting stronger. His development over the course of the series is one of the most satisfying things I’ve ever seen, (that one bit at the end of the Touou/Seirin game with “I want to practice” and his later conversation with Kuroko hit me in the fucking chest every time), and I love how even though he’s portrayed as cold, uncaring and rude, it’s still understood (at least by anyone with some nuance) that that’s not what he’s supposed to be like, and underneath the distant, kind of dickish front, he’s hurting a lot. I’ve talked about the degree to which he cares about people before too, but I still have to give a mention to the ferocious level of protectiveness this guy has for his friends. I could go on about him for ages, tbh, and maybe someday I will write a for-real structured essay to try to get it out there, but the bottom line is I love this character, I have for a long time, and likely will continue to do so long into the future.

All the people I ship romantically with this character

Okay here we go… I ship this guy extremely liberally, even with people he’s never interacted with (hell you could mention any random character and I could probably see my way clear to shipping them with him somehow, I’ll still try to explain my logic if I can). Prepare yourself.

Kagami (of course, AoKaga is the OTP and definitely the one I’ve devoted the most time to, they’re just the best together I’ll never get tired of seeing them figure their shit out over and over)

Kuroko (I may be AoKaga on main, but I’m still such a sucker for the tragic romance between these two, and sometimes it just hits me over the head like a sledgehammer how much I love their relationship. I’ve also got a lot of feelings for AoKagaKuro, they’re such a perfect trio and I need to invest more of my time in the OT3)

Kise (I was a bit late to the game on AoKise, but I definitely see it now. I love their dynamic and how imperfect their relationship would probably be, the complexity of it. sign me up)

Momoi (I don’t see a lot of AoMomo love anymore, but I’ve still got a soft spot for it, childhood friends are my weakness okay)

Midorima (they’re so different but that’s what makes it interesting, and I love the idea of neither of them knowing how to show/tell the other their feelings and being awkward stubborn shits together)

Murasakibara (they almost never interact but I just think they’d have such a soft cuddly relationship and be really chill together… lazy Sunday mornings sleeping in and hanging all over each other that kinda thing)

Akashi (kinda same as Akashi/Kagami, I think the difference between polished upper-class Akashi and scrappy city boy Aomine would be hella interesting… though I’ve also got some angst ideas for them as a couple, after how things went down at Teiko… abandonment and whatnot)

Imayoshi (I got pulled into this ship HARD by Lysapadin’s A Firm Hand series and now it’s no longer a guilty pleasure ship and is actually something I’ll talk about in the open, just… the power dynamic fuck me up)

Sakurai (I fuckin love the idea of an anxious Sakurai crushing hard on Aomine and not knowing how to tell him but when he finally plucks up the courage and prepares himself for imminent death Aomine’s actually pretty chill about it… plus they’d be adorable together tbh)

Wakamastu (you know it’s gotta be enemies to lovers. not just bc I’m intrigued by the love/hate relationship itself but if you look past the attitude issues these two would actually probably have a lot in common. also I’m really interested in how their dynamic might change with Wakamatsu being captain and all)

Susa (idk but there’s one throwaway line in season 3 where Imayoshi says about Aomine “actually maybe he likes you” and that’s enough for me. bring me the rarest rarepair my body is ready)

Kasamatsu (it wasn’t supposed to be SERIOUS but they got me. That moment in the Touou/Kaijo game where Aomine helps him up and “you’ve really done it now, senpai” is legit, plus these two would be such a good-looking couple, honestly.)

Mibuchi (give me the pretty boys. I have no excuse for this except maybe their interactions in my own damn fic again)

Nebuya (sometimes shipping can be as simple as hey I want them to bang right. also they’re both humongous dorks under their respective rough exteriors and I love them)

Moriyama (they bond over liking girls at first and then they’re simultaneously like wait a minute… more Touou/Kaijo ships pls)

Nijimura (I have this idea of them reuniting late into/after high school and Aomine still calls him captain out of habit and Nijimura’s like relieved and impressed to see how he’s developed since the mess at Teiko)

Himuro (they Never interact but they’d be so Petty and Snarky sign me up)

Haizaki (twisted, but I’m interested it’d be so unhealthy and awful bring it)

Hanamiya (even more twisted tbh but there is that moment where Aomine confronts him… and I’m here for hate sex just as much as your typical romance)

Inoue (who, you ask? I know he’s such a side character and no one remembers him, but he’s a big reason for Aomine’s downfall at Teiko and they seemed to be buddies before that, I’d be interested in some kind of reconciliation between them, or a romance, ya know whatever works)

And then we get into crossover territory… MOST of these are not my fault they’re just things I’ve seen and adopted for myself

Kuroo Tetsurou (someone made a moodboard for them, and now I can’t stop thinking about them in a relationship, like damn… it’d be such a beautiful mess I wanna see more of it)

Oikawa Tooru (I’ve seen art, and also the light. These two damaged angsty prodigies, one sharp as a whip the other dumb as bricks, but both of them sassy and nerdy as hell. I could see myself getting addicted to this ship if I took the time to write it out, and I just might)

Yamazaki Sousuke (can’t lie, they look good together. I’ve seen more than one art piece of them interacting and I have a Mighty Need.)

Matsuoka Rin (angry lonely talented boys finding solace in each other’s company? you know that’s my shit. also shark teeth and cop AUs hells yeah.) 

Tanaka Ryuunosuke (I don’t know where the fuck this idea came from but I thought of Tanaka trying to pick a fight with “shitty boi” Aomine while in Tokyo and then losing his shit and here we are)

Terushima Yuuji (this one is purely physical… they pretty, I have no other reason, but also this absolute fuckboy, these two would be such a train wreck and I’m here for it tbh)

Yachi Hitoka (okay picture this Giant Terrifying basketball player trying to be less giant and terrifying to tiny shy Yachi and tell me you don’t just want to see that happen. I get Legosi/Haru vibes.)

I’ll spare you the rest of the ideas I’ve tossed around, because past this point it becomes pure crack (if it hasn’t already) but you get the idea. Throw a character my way and I can probably talk myself into it that’s the power this guy has over me. ¯\_(ツ)_/��

My non-romantic OTP for this character

K considering the List… it shouldn’t be surprising that I also consider this person a romantic candidate, but you know when it comes to non-romantic OTP it’s gotta be Momoi. Platonic or romantic, the way she’s stuck with him all those years and his obvious protectiveness and love for her and how (even though he claims to like big tits) he never even once starts to objectify her in any way, it’s so important to me. Momoi is Aomine’s redeeming factor when he’s at his worst, and she goes to bat for him even while he’s actively trying to shake her off and still tries to protect and help him when he refuses to accept it, even when it means they fight. (Also Kuroko saying “Aomine’s probably looking for you” after their argument puts to mind Aomine running through the rain calling Momoi’s name and that is just… pure). These two have the kind of unshakable long-standing friendship that’ll probably last them the rest of their lives, and no matter what context or form it takes, I can’t get enough of it. 

My unpopular opinion about this character

I’ve harped on enough about the fandom’s portrayal of Aomine as a one-note asshole who doesn’t care before, so let’s see if I can change gears a little bit here. 

I honestly don’t agree with… the persistent idea people seem to have of Aomine being a narcissist or obsessed with himself? Like yeah, he’s self-absorbed and egotistical, no question, this is not to say he hasn’t got those flaws and others besides… but that’s not the same as being like, physically attracted to yourself. Part of me suspects it was a “the only one who can fuck me is me” joke taken too far, so that now the idea of Aomine being in love with himself is just ingrained into the fanon culture, but if you look at the show itself, personally I don’t see it. If anything, I would think he’d have some self-loathing issues to work through (and that’s part of the reason he gave for skipping practice, he doesn’t want to be the way he is, and specifically says he doesn’t want to increase the difference between him and everyone else). But hey, that’s just my opinion. I’ll get off my soapbox now.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

I mean he says he and Kagami are postponing their match, after their brief one-on-one when he gives him the shoes, and then we never get to see it… Tbh just more street ball with this guy would be great, since it’s what his whole style is based around. Even if he’s just playing by himself… or hell, maybe since he thinks no one at the high school level can beat him, we could get a scene of him trying to go up against adults. Maybe he still beats them and his despair worsens after that, but then it’d have more meaning, and at least we’ll have seen that he’s tried and is not just giving up before he’s seen all of what he could be up against in the future. Plus, picturing Aomine going five-on-one like Haizaki did against grown-ups and still slaughtering them is something I’d pay money to see.

Worst:  Oooh, a toss up between “The ruckus of a hundred students finding and settling into seats reverberates throughout the hall and hits Katara like a shockwave, making her stop just inside the door.” (wordy much?) and “Pidge grumbled under her breath as she shuffled down the hall to her hanger.” (omg how did I miss a misspelling in the first line)

Best/worst last line?

Best:  “The warmth in her chest had nothing to do with the jacket.”  But I feel like “And the Ambassador certainly won’t notice they’re missing - at least not while he’s passed out underneath the canape table.” should come in second here.

Worst: So 4/6 fics end with some version of ‘he/she said ‘Okay’.’  Worst line goes to “C’mon then. Let’s go on a date!” which was written in purely to avoid him saying ‘Okay’.

General questions:

Looking back, did you write more fics than you thought you would this year, less than you thought, or about what you predicted? Well, I intended to do 6 for Kataang Week and I did …only 1… but 5 others. So hmm.  I definitely wasn’t expecting to write for anything else, I haven’t written fic for fun in about 15 years so it was a nice change!!!  Big thanks to Morie @octaviainthewasteland for getting me back into this.

(See? Choices gets no love!) Story most underappreciated by the universe? Choices! I dunno why, I really like the atmosphere of it. It draws me in every time I read it. Story that could have been better? Smile, definitely. That was the first thing I wrote this year after a year of writing nothing (I participated a bit in Kataang Week last year just because there needs to be more people in it) and you can definitely tell my writing needed polishing.

Quiet Shimmers in the Snow annoys me, tbh. When I sat down to write it I thought ‘fuck logic, let’s just have fun and be happy’ and created this big romantic world but the thought that ‘there isn’t really a story here to tell’ always niggles at me. It’s probably what makes it so hard to write. Sexiest story? Snippets. Though there’s really not enough sex considering it was meant to be NSFW practice. Saddest story? I don’t really do sad. Choices, maybe? Most fun? Shimmers.  It’s a first date with alien ice skating, fairies and Christmas markets. C’mon. Story with single sweetest moment? Smile

“That means the pretty girl must be looking at him again.

He looks around, a grin already forming on his lips, expecting her to jump and duck her head like she always does. But this time bright blue eyes meet his gaze head-on and he feels the breath leave his lungs in a sudden woosh. Her hair tumbles over her shoulders and a deep red blush spreads over her dark complexion. How did he ever look away from her before?

He feels light-headed. The pretty girl isn’t pretty. She’s beautiful.

She lifts a hand and waves, a small smile spreading shyly across her lips. He smiles back, warmth filling his chest, and then the lecturer calls for everyone to pay attention and the moment is gone.”

Writing about The Sweeties means sweetness is always coming. I love it.

 Hardest story to write? Both Smile and the Shallura drabble, I think. I was doing both more out of obligation than a real inspiration to write (unfortunately I only seem to obsess about one thing at a time). Quiet Shimmers in the Snow has been giving me a heap of trouble past the first chapter, too (really it was meant to be a one-shot, but Misty insisted that I needed to have them actually ice-skate so I thought I’d shoe-horn a few other tumblr prompts into it).

What I’m getting from this question is that anything I’m not writing specifically and solely because I want to write it is hard to write.

Easiest/most fun story to write? The Good Type of Snitch. That was a hell of a lot of fun.

Did any stories shift your perceptions of the characters? Nah, none of my writing’s that deep, fam.  It’s all fluff and funsies.

Most overdue story? Uh, probably Quiet Shimmers in the Snow since it’s made up of tumblr prompts from like… 3 months ago??

Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them? Starting writing again, just in general! Snitch was a huge risk because it was my first foray into writing again and also written as a birthday surprise for someone who’s writing I admire immensely ( @octaviainthewasteland , looking at you here!). I was actually a little nervous about that because Morie’s stuff is always so well-thought-out with expansive settings and twists and emotions and mine is like...fluff with two people talking.  I suppose I learnt that I enjoy writing, people enjoy reading my rubbish, and that people always enjoy surprise birthday fics?

Snippets is another big risk – it wasn’t planned when I started, and I just kind of randomly decided that I needed to learn to write NSFW so…there we go. The plot came after the first chapter. I learnt that emotional context is what really makes a smut scene go, that people really like NSFW stuff and interact with it more (this is the only one of my fics that people interact with me on tumblr about), that I actually need to learn to write group dialogue, and that I really can’t stick to angst to save my fucking life because despite my careful planning my head keeps going YOU CAN MAKE THEM HAPPY NOW JUST DO THIS!!!! (I’m writing fanfictions of my own damn fanfiction in my mind because I want to them to just smile already jfc)

What are your fic writing goals for next year? So I’m in the Plance Zine and the Tiny Adventures Zine, the Pidge Big Bang and the Voltron Kink Bang …. So to complete all of those on time!!

I also want to work through that list of prompts from months ago, and my piece for the Voltron Kink Bang is going to be the first part to a gigantic soap opera epic that I’ve had planned in my head for months and never intended to write – I want to have at least half of that written and posted by December 2018. And hopefully that goal will stop me from chickening out of the Voltron Kink Bang because there’s still a part of me that wants to accidentally miss the check-in.

And, for funsies, I wanna have two completely new fics that aren’t planned at all right now done and dusted in these 12 months.  What will they be? Who knows! Finding out is half the fun!

2017 Fic in Review

@lvslie tagged me in this! And I am 50% nostalgia, so I will definitely do it. Thank you! ^_^

total number of completed stories:  5 fanfics and 2 stories of my own writing! Which I am still trying to get published. I also am in the middle of like 7 things....

total word count: 73,989 of fanfic, plus 53,778 of completed (first draft anyway) non-fan-fiction, plus about 25,000 of an uncompleted story that I feel like counting since I’ve written a lot of it. It’s less impressive when you know that writing was pretty much all I was supposed to be doing this year XP

fandoms written in:  All Good Omens, plus one of them was in the style of Wodehouse’s Jeeves and Wooster stories, which was REALLY fun :)

looking back, did you expect to write more fic than you thought you would this year, less, or about what you’d expected?

I don’t think I had any particular plans about how much fanfiction I was going to write, so idk? I’ve been thinking this whole time that I didn’t do enough writing for my other stories, but when I consider that I had to plan and polish them a LOT more than fanfics, looking back on the wordcounts now makes me feel better about the amount I accomplished. So thanks for that :D

what’s your own favorite story of the year?

Since this is mostly a fanfiction ask I’ll just look at those. But still, how can I choose!? I had a lot of affection for “Stay Here” while I was writing it. But now I might be happiest with “Even Without Looking”, although, I have to admit, I always get biased when one gets a lot of good feedback!

did you take any writing risks this year?

This is a cool question and I don’t at all know the answer! Except that “Very Good, Omens!” was hard to write since PG Wodehouse has SUCH a distinctive style with slang that is sadly mostly out of use, and I knew it was a very niche thing to write, but it was totally worth it anyway.

I also, for the sake of my own future nostalgia, feel like saying that the longer story I’m currently writing is a risk because it’s basically taking my exact thought process and emotions from my life for the past few years and putting it into a book that I’m actually going to try to get published....but we’ll see how that works out in the future when I actually finish the thing XD

do you have any fanfic or profit goals for the new year? I

Profit goals? Well I’m definitely trying to find a literary agent, so I hope I can at least find one for one of the completed stories by next year! I don’t have specific fanfic goals, but I do have a ton of ideas, so I hope I can write some of those before they vanish forever :O

Oh yeah. “Even Without Looking” was a blast. I’m so grateful for Aziraphale for letting me use him to have fun with how little I know about flirting and love.

Tbh I wrote “Not Too Late” SO FAST because the idea hit me and I couldn’t stop writing it, and now I’ve kind of entirely forgotten it XD I feel bad because I’ve hardly mentioned it at all in this! I need to look back at it again, because it kind of consumed my life for a month and then vanished.

Every now and then I realize that I’ve put a curse word in something, or that I’ve made a sexual innuendo, or that I’ve TOTALLY implied that characters are sleeping together. And I startle myself because I’ll just DO these things in writing even though I hardly ever used to talk about them at all XD I’m still not used to it. I do that last one in something I’m CURRENTLY writing but I don’t actually think I’ve had any ‘sexy’ moments in ones from this year. Maybe it’s “Not Too Late” when Aziraphale is like ‘ah the seductive voice of sin’ when Crowley talks and then immediately does a double-take at his own thoughts. Or maybe it’s in “Even Without Looking” when he thinks about kissing Crowley for a second and his brain just stops working.

hardest story to write:

“Very Good, Omens!” because I was nervous about daring to try to sound like Wodehouse, haha. Also the plot was silly and convoluted and I had to work a lot to sort it out.

There’s a fic I’ve been working on that’s a bit more angsty than usual (for like two seconds anyway) and I’ve had to edit that a lot because I’ve never been happy with it, since it’s not what I usually write. But I haven’t finished that one yet.

Yussss I’ve been thinking about this a lot recently. Thanks for the opportunity!

1: What inspired you to write the fic this way?It started off as a roleplay! We were talking blackhill meta, and it turned into Nat (me) and Maria (Woodface) getting into a fist fight over the fact that Maria didn't tell Nat that Fury was alive. Once we got going with that scene, we realized hey! this is really fun. We decided to try a few other scenarios, seeing what we could come up with. When we started, we didn't intend to share it with anyone else; it was just something we were doing for fun. I don't remember the exact point where I realized we had something really good going, but I do remember saying to Woodface, "you know, if we polished this up and put it on the internet, I think people would go nuts for it." She took a little convincing, but by the time the infamous scene in the gym came along, we agreed we needed to share it.

2: What scene did you first put down?We decided I'd write Nat's POV, Woodface would write Maria's, we'd stick them in a room together, and we'd see what happened. That's all the planning we put into it to begin with. The whole fic happened chronologically after that.

3: What’s your favorite line of narration?It's too long a fic to pick out any single line as a favorite... I've got a soft spot for Ch 4: Down Time (both my bit and Woodface's bit) and Ch 25: Run For It. I'm also really proud of the big fight scene between Maria and reverted-back-to-Natalia Natasha in Ch 38. Maria headbutting Nat in the face and then Nat pretending she was gonna shoot Maria so she could shoot the guards instead? Epic.  

4: What’s your favorite line of dialogue?> obvs! see also:Mine: "If you could do something - anything - right now, what would it be?" (That whole conversation, really)Woodface's: "Fucking hell, Romanoff. There's fuck them and leave them, and then there's you." (That whole exchange, too)

5: What part was hardest to write?The whole shore leave arc was hardest for me. I had some personal issues going on at the time, so I was in the absolute wrong headspace for writing domestic fluff or intimacy. Funnily enough, I had no problem writing the fucked up fight!sex in the gym, but the good, sweet, nice sex in Maria's apartment was like pulling teeth for me. I knew Nat wanted it and was ready for it, but it was very hard to write it like that. It was hard to keep my own feelings from infecting Natasha's. I kept having to rewrite things because they were too angsty, or I would have to write through the feeling of my skin crawling.

6: What makes this fic special or different from all your other fics?Aside from being my first (and only) collaborative work? GttD was the fic that made me believe I am a good writer. Now I'm in the process of writing an original novel and several comics with the hope of getting something published eventually. I don't know if I'd have the guts to try if it weren't for GttD. Being able to start and finish a project like that, not to mention getting all the amazing feedback from the best fandom I could imagine? Life-changing. Truly.

7: Where did the title come from?You know, I still don't really know. It was supposed to be a placeholder. It's the title Woodface gave the google doc when we were first messing around with the roleplay, and it just sort of stuck. I think it fits, though. Gives the whole thing a sense of 'well fuck, this is gonna be a hot mess. bring it on.'

8: Did any real people or events inspire any part of it?Not really? Not that I am aware of, or was aware of at the time. I think I probably got the idea for stealing Maria's shirts from a story my mom tells from when she was in college, but it wasn't a conscious decision on my part. (It's a great story: she stole aaaaaaaaaaaallllllllll her hallmate's clothes while he was in the shower, then she put them all on reserve in the library.)

9: Were there any alternate versions of this fic?Hoo boy, yes. There were a couple of times we'd get into a scene and realize, oops this isn't going anywhere fun or useful, so we'd back up and try again. For example, we wrote a whole sex scene in the showers after their very first sparring match in chapter 8. However, at that point in the story they were nowhere near ready for it. Not even close. Scrapping that scene was a great decision, even though it was super fun to write. Maybe I'll polish it up as a deleted scene/bonus material.Most notably, the entire ending is way different than I'd originally intended. At first, Natasha was just going to be wrong about SHIELD orchestrating her relationship with Maria. It was all supposed to be paranoia on her part. She ran away. Fury brought her back. She was humiliated. Maria was hurt. Simple as that. Nat fucked up, and it destroyed all the trust and understanding they had between them. The story was supposed to end with them breaking up because of it. I know, I know, that's cruel. I wanted to do a sequel where they fall out of touch for a while, and then get thrown back together as part of the Avengers Initiative. I wanted to explore them working through their old grudges and hurt feelings, learning how to work together again, rediscovering their connection and attraction, falling back in love. (my very favorite fic ever - a series I rank up there with my favorite books ever - did something similar. The emotional impact was spectacular.) Obviously, that didn't happen. Woodface wasn't into the idea, and we both agreed it was better to wrap up the story in a single fic rather than attempting a sequel. We still needed a way to get past the shattered trust, hence the whole Red Room chemical programming story arc.

10: Why did you choose this pairing for this particular story?I was in love with them! Really, there was no way this story would have happened to any other characters. Blackhill got me back into the fic writing game after years of no writing whatsoever. They're still my best inspiration.

11: What do you like best about this fic?The fandom! I never imagined it would catch on so thoroughly. I never thought I'd get to be a part of such an amazing, interactive experience. Story-wise, I think I'm proudest of 1) the sex scene that did absolutely nothing to resolve the sexual tension between them and 2) the plot twist of having Natasha run away due to her super sinister chemical programming.

12: What do you like least about this fic?tbh if I had to go back and change it, I'd probably try to streamline the ending. There's a lot of fluff in there, and it does weird things to the pacing. I was okay with keeping it because GttD is fanfiction (we WANT to see all the cuddling and touching and kissing and love declarations!) but I'm well aware that it's not exactly the best storycraft.

13: What music did you listen to, if any, to get in the mood for writing this story? Or if you didn’t listen to anything, what do you think readers should listen to to accompany us while reading?Oh man, I really need to get off my ass and curate a more cohesive playlist. In the meantime, here's this one.

14: Is there anything you wanted readers to learn from reading this fic?I wanted people to love blackhill! I still get comments about how GttD sold people on Maria and Natasha as a ship. I love love love knowing my work helped bring new people into the fandom. It's a great feeling.

15: What did you learn from writing this fic?The whole thing was a lesson in improv and character consistency. By the time we got to the end of each arc, we'd already shared the beginning, thus it was canon and unchangeable. We had to move forward without getting to go back and alter any of the plot or character beats that we'd already established. It was quite the challenge, but it was really fun. I'm amazed how well the whole story ended up coming together, considering how unplanned it was.

Alright so like. I see you out there, writing your Voltron fics set in the Garrison, and I feel like I oughta say something. I'm writing this on mobile, so it'll probably look a little wonky, bit that's okay. ♠️ First of all, let's get reminded that the Galaxy Garrison is a military organization, right? Yes, it is a school, but it is a *military* school. Not a college. ♠️ And as it is *not* a college, the rooms are going to be so, so, soooooo much smaller than you think. Take it from someone who's lived in several forms of military barracks -the rooms can always get smaller. (Imagine the smallest hotel room you've ever been in. It's probably roughly the size of your bedroom, right? Now you have to share that with an entire other person, two desks, two full-sized dressers, two haed-as-rock twin-sized beds [seriously, they probably cause actual physical pain; mine does at least], and two standing wardrobes. If I fall off my bed I will fall into my closet.) The AC probably works extremely well, since they're in a desert, so the rooms are probably constantly at around 65° but feel a lot colder. You may or may not get an en-suite bathroom in your room -they're probably given to the more senior students, and they're also probably the most well-maintained part of the room. There absolutely will not be a bathtub. If it's a communal bathroom, bring shower shoes -plastic flipflops and the like- because you don't know where other people's get have been. Feet are gross. Portable shower caddies are amazing. --Room inspections will take place at least once a month. Your room has to be clean or you'll get a black mark in your record; the rooms are roughly the size of shoe-boxes so they're easy to clean but also incredibly easy to mess​ up again. ♠️ As the Garrison is not a college, it doesn't teach college classes. You won't get history, you won't get English -unless it's relevant to your career path, which it probably won't be- you won't get any of the 'fun' sciences or any basic maths. You will get thrown straight into the deep end without a floatie and they expect you to swim. If you don't swim, you drown. --It is incredibly easy to drown. Stop swimming for a single second and you are *gone.* --Schedules would be extremely regimented. Most likely it would be exactly fifty minutes of class followed by a ten minute break. Unless your teachers are really fucking chill, and then your break might unofficially start a teensy bit earlier. ♠️ The food is gonna be extremely bland, highly filling, and made on an incredibly tight budget. You'll get a lot of potatoes, rice, and pasta. Lots of fish and chicken, also. On holidays, you might get what's called 'Surf & Turf' which is the options of steak or lobster. Those days are fucking amazing. ♠️ PT (Physical Training) would probably be held every other day, because if it's held *every* day then the chances of breaking the cadets skyrocket, which is the exact opposite of what is wanted. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays are typical, and usually very early in the morning. Like, you're getting up at 0445 to muster at 05 to then go running. (Running is horrible but it is also a requirement for military fitness.)(TBH I headcannon the GG as being most like the Air Force, which is definitely the least physically intensive branch of the military.) ♠️ On weekends, at the schools, that's when you're most free. You're expected to do your laundry, polish your boots, iron your uniforms, and most especially do your homework. If your uniform looks like shit then you will get basically a demerit chit. It's basically a mark in your record that says 'this person cannot be trusted to keep their uniform in shape, let alone do anything else.' --Uniform inspections are probably held every Monday at first muster, but can also be held randomly throughout the rest of the week. And also randomly throughout the day, depending on how pissed your senior officer is. Those on-the-spot ones don't go on your official record unless you truly look like a bag of ass, or your senior officer really fucking hates you. ♠️ Reveille (wake-up call) sounds most likely at 06 or 07, but also if you're a responsible human you've probably been up for at least a half hour before. Taps (bedtime) could sound either at ten (2200), or six (1800) depending on which branch similarity you were going for. Lights-out is probably at ten no matter what, though, and there's probably an announcement over the barracks-wide loudspeaker that was probably recorded like 60 years earlier and is still used bc hey why fix it if it aint broke. Everyone rolls their eyes at it. This was a lot longer than I had planned on it being, and it's not so much a PSA as a monologue of semi-headcannons, but I think that's all I have to say for now. Originally I had just planned on saying something about the room sizes... Anyway, MHU if you have any questions.

This movie was such an unexpected delight and I just want more of these ladies, kicking spectral ass and being friends and not giving a damn about what anyone else thinks of them. I loved the light tone of the movie but I also love creepy ghost stories so feel free to take these prompts in any direction.

-what’s one of their most memorable busts? Are there any particularly scary or irritating ghosts? Do they ever go beyond New York? Perhaps to investigate a ghost town, or abandoned buildings in the middle of nowhere…

-how does their ghost research progress after the events of the movie? Any big scientific breakthroughs? Do they find out more about the world through the portal? Any big mishaps that lead to more ghosts rather than less? I wouldn’t be surprised if Holtz’s unstable equipment malfunctioned somehow

I’m not caught up on the second half of season 3 but I will be soon, though tbh I’m here for character dynamics - there are so many freaking plot twists I’ve forgotten much of what happened earlier in the show anyway. What I love about this pairing is how complicated and co-dependent it is; their personal relationship and working relationship bleed into one another, it’s messy as hell and it’s never not going to be like that.

In the meantime, shameless copying and pasting of prompts from the last exchange I did, with a few new ideas:

- they finally kissed and then the freaking house burned down, so maybe a quiet moment between those things happening when Annalise is wide awake and sober (seriously that whole situation was so ficcy, with Bonnie taking care of her – might as well mine it to its full potential)

- I like how effective a team they are as lawyers and the contrast with their complex messy personal relationship, so like, maybe casefic with a side of dysfunction

Jyn/Leia, Jyn & Leia

All I want from Star Wars is a proper relationship between two women and it has yet to materialise. So give me Jyn and Leia as friends, girlfriends, reluctant allies, whatever, as long as they’re interacting. They’re from very different backgrounds - polished princess and petty criminal - but they’ve both been trained for rebellion from a young age, and if they met around the time of A New Hope, they’d both be grappling with loss; there’s a lot of potential to mine.

-they’re sent on a mission together at some point during the war - how well do they function as a team? Who’s in charge? How does the other deal with that?

-Jyn surviving Scarif and standing beside Leia when the Death Star gets destroyed - what does it mean for each of them? What would Jyn’s involvement in the rebellion be like going forward?

-building on that, what would Jyn do if she were still alive during the Force Awakens? Would Leia turn to an old friend/old flame for support after losing Han?

-college au, where they’re both involved in student activism but have very different methods of getting shit done (Leia working from within the institution, getting elected to various student offices and delivering impassioned speeches at committee meetings, while Jyn goes for more subversive tactics)

Lovelace, Minkowski, Lovelace/Minkowski, Eiffel & Minkowski

My new favourite thing! I started listening about a month ago and was immediately hooked. I love the show’s effortless switching between humour and much darker material, the insular character dynamics set against the big empty galaxy, and the bleak underlying scenario of being stuck on a spaceship that’s falling apart while nobody on Earth really seems to care.

I requested my favourite characters and combinations of characters but I like Hera and Hilbert too and most of the prompts could apply to the Hephaestus crew as a whole, so if you want to take more of a group approach that’s totally cool. What I’m really interested in is how the characters function and develop meaningful relationships under the circumstances.

(I’m less a fan of the SI-5 team; the angle I’m interested in there is the disruption they present for the original crew , so if you want to include them in that capacity, go ahead. Also, feel free to ignore the whole Lovelace = alien thing cos that’s mostly what I’ve been doing.)

-if the crew do make it back to Earth, what then? Do they stay in touch or drift apart? Is it difficult to re-adjust to ‘normal’ life? Or for a lighter approach, the crew indulging in all the things they’ve missed most about Earth

-wacky space shenanigans! The first time Minkowski brought out the jetpack and Eiffel got excited, an experiment of Hilbert’s going wrong and everyone helping with damage control, ways Eiffel has attempted to alleviate his boredom...

-exploring pre-canon - the characters’ first weeks of life in space and how it was the same/different from what they thought it would be, moments where characters realised their first impressions of each other weren’t quite accurate, etc

The X-Files

-what I’m really after here is casefic, weird happenings with a side of Mulder & Scully banter. One of my favourite things about the show is how many genres it managed to incorporate so effortlessly, sci-fi/horror/thriller etc, and I love the monster of the week episodes that their own distinctive feel - the claustrophobia of Ice or the melancholy of the Field Where I Died. Some of my favourite X-Files tropes are small creepy towns, isolated mountain forests and strange lights in the sky, if that helps :)

-I’m not a huge fan of the revival - I think it was a missed opportunity, because it was a) a mess and b) didn’t really use aspects of the 2010s that make the show still relevant today - government spying, distrust of authority, etc. So a modern au done right would be really nice.

-the show’s pretty noir-ish already but I would love a full-blown noir au, Scully as the straight-laced detective who gets reluctantly entangled in her partner’s wild goose chase

-or complete opposite direction, take out the aliens and have Mulder & Scully as office co-workers
