I must create and share it, not for the note counts but for the love of it. Note counting is the joy-killer. Note counting is the little death of creativity that brings total burnout. I will create without care. I will share it online and let the notifications pass by without a sound. And when the hellsite hides my creation, I will let the disappointment pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past, I will turn my eye to the inner truth: that my love for what I created will remain.

I just realized that Alia has the Barons memories which means that she can access the male ancestral memory, which means that Alia is a female Kwisatz Haderach (which aren’t supposed to exist). This was either hand waved away in a line I forgot or simply never addressed because Frank Herbert was such a Straight Man.

I’m sad we never got a Paul/Feyd-Rautha pwp from you because I know you’d do it right but I understand why beefswelling would kill that in the cradle. Beefswelling look what you took from us.
frank: and i will pepper in some psychic damage to ward off horny geeks from getting too excited about my writing

i both really enjoyed dune 2 and walked away disappointed at the same time. it's excellently made, an absolute pleasure to watch, and the parts that they chose to adapt feel faithful to the story. it does a great job highlighting the more emotional aspects of the tragedy
but it cuts out entire elements from the books, and i think it really suffers without them. not just for explanation purposes (altho my friend who had not read the books was SO lost, which i generally consider a flaw in an adaptation) but also in terms of nuance and impact
the movies cut almost all of the ecology worldbuilding bits, and i feel like the script writers thought this was justified because they were just "flavor". but they don't bring up the potential for re-greening arrakis at all, we see the fremen's huge reservoir of water explained as exclusively a spiritual belief. and it makes the fremen look, well, stupid
either way we know that the religious messiah is false, a manipulation, but in the version of dune where we see actual plans for a seed vault and a feasible terraforming project, the water reservoir represents a real hope and a real future. they are not a doomed, backwards people who may as well go out in a blaze of glory- they are rational actors struggling to enact a real plan while under constant manipulation by their enemies. if they can manage to be left alone, they really do have a shot at fixing their planet
of course, there is no possible universe where they are ever left alone. even with the incredible power to see the literal future, there can exist no revolution that doesn't starve innocents. but having a real shot at a better world at your fingertips and being unable to see it through is vital to the story's impact
dune is an absolute beast to try to adapt and i thought for sure we'd be getting a trilogy, instead of two movies that go through the end of the first book and a vague promise that more parts will cover the rest of the series. i am generally against adding More parts to a series of movies but it just. it needed it. it's a shame

closed starter for @paramounticebound !!
The moment of truth; there are duties as a concubine -- expectations -- and she'll need to keep her mouth shut when she hears out his. There are rumors about this mysterious Emperor, but she doesn't pretend to listen. There are likely stories they've told her of him, too.
Straightforward exchanges always went this way.
When he enters the room, her chin obediently raises. "Your Majesty. I've been anticipating your company."
