so, 6 days ago I made this post. It links to a google form, and in the google form there's a series of questions relating to Obey Me!. In the original post I said that i would post the results in early August. it is now early August, and these are the results.

oh! but first: a couple notes. 1) you can view the results here. i encourage everyone to read it for themselves, because it's interesting (to me, subjectively). there's also a spreadsheet but its a pain to read. but if anyone wants me to post it i can. 2) the data in this post is from 8/4/2024 at 1:03am, at which point there were 50 responses. 3) the google form is still up and functioning. I'm going to continue to maintain it for awhile (or, at least, that's my intention). so if you haven't already filled it out, and you would like to do so, go right ahead! If you decide to do so, I appreciate it a lot.

more people consider their MC to have a binary gender than consider themselves to have one & I'm somewhat curious as to why that is.

this is about what I was expecting, to be honest. 5 people think that nightbringer isn't canon where as 32 people do think it's canon. and 13 people gave another more nuanced answer.

I personally don't think nigthbringer is canon, but I already knew that wasnt the general consensus, and I'm pleasantly surprised that 5 entire people do agree with me.

Last Warrior Nun update of 2022!

Lets start with a big congratulation to everyone who voted to get Warrior Nun to be the Show of the Year on Spoiler TV’s poll.

Second congratulation (to the twitter crew this time!), we already hit the 4 fucking millions #SaveWarriorNun tweets!!! 

The Go Fund Me is going well, actually is going so good that the team in charge of it is using it to send little treats and hello’s to platforms and streaming services who could potentially pick up the show, just to get noticed and show our enthousiasm. Deliveries start early january, and the next big step is getting the billboards setup! The specs are on the Discord server for any artist who would like to do some art to go on the billboard, really great opportunity to get your art seen! Donate to the Go Fund Me if you can spare some money, the more people give, the best add spots we can get!

A team is also working on a website, that will be up and running in the next weeks too!

The petition is now at 97 000 signatures, we are sooo close to busting our objective!! Let’s keep sharing it, i know people are reaching out to queer support groups or women’s support groups in their area to get it around different circles, if you want to try that as well.

Biggest objective right now is to boost the views up. We have some people in discussion with folks who were involved in the Manifest fandom, and it seems that the best way to have a show saved is to keep the show in the most watched list of netflix. Stream it, suggest it to friends and family, lets bring it back to the top! 

The Discord server is still super active, both with important effort organisation for billboards and posters and open letters, but also with just hangouts and fun times. Folks are doing rewatches together, doing silly classes and drunk watch parties of various movies, thirsting over kty and alba, or just generally talking about gay stuff. Feel free to join, everyone is super nice and welcoming!

I saw some tags on the poll about polls, and pushed myself to think of a few more that aren't specifically character based. It's hard though! I thought of a few but can't really get my mind away from characters, especially since for me personally that's one of the big appeals of comics.

Favorite arc - pretty straightforward and could be a good way to expose each other to things we havent read.

Coolest fanwork - I probably wouldn't do this bc as much as I love the idea of nominating someone for something they've worked on and seeing them excited that they won, I really dont like the idea of there being losers and feeling not good enough. Of course nothing would go in without permission but ehh I don't think a poll bracket is the right format for this one.

Most questionable pose - official art only so we are looking at professional work. Could be bad sexy anatomy, funny pose of someone's butt in the air for no reason, etc. But would have to come with a big disclaimer that everyone even professionals are at different skill levels as artists. I keep trying to think of an art related poll that will work bc it's like a Big part of comics, but I still have misgivings.

Freaky friday - alright this actually is a character poll but not just a who's your fav. People submit characters and then I randomly pair them to swap bodies, and we vote on who would fair best. Id hope it would get zany.

Whose power would you rather have - not quite a blorbo poll but adjacent? Personally I have been trying in all my tournament ideas to avoid a situation where the most popular character wins, either by making the poll not about popularity/best-ness (without an interesting twist), or making the poll not about individual characters. Its hard. But this one would engage people on a more personal level bc their own preferences are going to be unique from person to person. It's not a judgment call of which character is "better" or fits some definition most, but rather who would you specifically want to be. And maybe it'd strike up convo about what y'all would do with that power.

The thing I really am aiming for with these polls is to generate more interaction in the community (actually let me add that the pinned post). My favorite part of being a fan is finding other people and laughing and having fun about a thing we all enjoy. Comics are such a special medium bc there's SO much content and it's so varied. And this tournament fad (yes, that's what it is) is just one way of many to explore that and to achieve this goal. So I'm trying to see what the possibilities are and what will work/what won't while i can before the craze passes.

(edit bc I keep thinking of more.. how about worst/stupidest character death? Biggest missed opportunity? Or something silly like best entrance or sickest burn. Oh or what if the scenario changed every round like it was an adventure that the characters were on?)

woohooo its 11pm and its time for me to have an opinion on the internet

now i know theres no rule about sticking to one team or whatever. Personally I think it’s more fun that way, but thats my opinion and to each their own. It’s also equally fun to vote and strategize for multiple teams, but therein lies the opinion im talking about tonight

theres like. one master in particular. who is not doing that with sportsmanshiply intentions. i keep seeing them jump around into other team’s notes and pitting them all against each other, then going to “their” team and acting like some triple agent with loads of insight. because that’s the thing. they’re not playing for multiple teams, they’re playing for ONE team and acting like theyre playing for four. Theyre not even sound plays, they’re plays that are 1. entirely hypothetical and thus split votes based on no evidence 2. straight up false claims of what other teams are doing 3. continuously pushing for One course of action then strategizing against it with their home team, but not reporting back, thus proving they arent playing for more than one team.

first of all, everyone can read. obviously we’re all out here looking at each team. but doing reconnaissance-equivalent is not the problem, because recon is just observation

its one thing to look into what other teams are doing and make decisions based on that. But it’s ANOTHER thing entirely to go into another team’s discussion and point them in a direction that directly benefits an opposing team, or pits multiple teams against each other with the intent to make them lose, or at least make Your Team Win. its straight up sabotage.

honestly it takes the fun out of this.

Is it really so important that your favored servant win the silly little poll game that you’re going to play double, triple, quadruple agent? that you’re going to argue and act high and mighty and smart and clever about it? absolutely support who you want to support. vote on as many teams as you want! but dont go trying to influence other team’s decisions just so your favorite team has a better chance at winning the silly poll. that’s such poor sportsmanship!!!!

folks are starting to take the idea of victory too seriously and it’s draining the fun right out of the whole thing. which is a shame because this is a lot of fun and i enjoy it, i just enjoy it significantly LESS when someone is going around trying to make themselves win.

its just a poll. it doesnt even mean anything. why cant people be normal about it and have a genuine fun time. why is it necessary to cheat? ugh

i kinda want to say something to them because they’ve been weirdly like...aggressive...about strategy and potential plays. but im not about to waste my energy on that lmfao. i recognize that it doesnt matter. however I AM tired of seeing them.

Have you considered adding another way to get the effect of the Denial mantra besides Hypnosis, maybe a Corruption or something? I like the effect, which makes it a little unfortunate I can't get it on trained slaves due to the degree of exclusivity between training a slave vs hypnotizing one.

- - There is a mechanic where some slavers with either Hypnosis or a bunch of other potentially mind affecting traits have a chance to implant certain mantras on certain trainings. Denial isn't one of them yet, but I can definitely see that being included on a future training.

- - There is a wiki and there's a link to it on the tumblr on the No Haven page. There's threads on Hypnopics Collective and TFGames, and possibly other places too. There's also the discord for patrons where people are always happy to answer those questions.

- - They're rolled at the beginning of the game, and do get affected at least partially by their traits. So someone who started with Leader will like being a Second-in-Command or Spiritual Leader more, and visa versa for someone with Follower. There are morning events where they can shift upwards and downwards. There are relationships that can form between slavers. So far there's a couple of assignments that can form relationships for good and bad. There will likely be other ways for them to happen in future.

- - There's only a couple of assignments like Witch-Queen that are one offs and I've had that feedback from others so now it won't appear as early as it used to. Glad you liked it! Funny you say that too as this week we've been doing some polling games on the discord where various stuff gets matched against the other in random eliminations and Private Passage was voted best assignment ever (Spectacle of the Sacred was second, and third place was A Deluge of Oozes). Bad rng I'm guessing, as it's made to be repeatable.

- - Pretty much exactly that. Didn't have much interest in that MMO, and yet the concept they had of collecting various lower deck type officers who all had their own traits, and then sending them off to do various stuff from raiding enemy ships down to putting on a play (no lie, that likely will be a NH assignment sooner or later) for various rewards I found to be surprisingly compelling. So like with WR where I took a chan dice roller game and thought can I do this in RAGS, I had the same thought with the doff system. Of course I've complicated and expanded on the idea a whole bunch since.

Also was unaware of Fort of Chains, but on looking they do give me a shout out which is most appreciated, thanks!

- - Strong Right Arm and Recruiter should be removed after the game starts, but yes that's a good idea. What I'll likely do is redo that miscellaneous full custom options and all of those Encampment specific which makes sense as they're not so specific to the player themself.

- - I have yes. The idea was to do a 'super-villain' style start under the scenarios where you'd have some big advantage to counteract the lack of staff, like being better at planning, being better at seducing minions, or just having lots of gold and a better source of mercenaries. Fleet is already in there, Flying possibly, but I like having that as part of slaver upgrades as a big perk from that, and Bimbo is available in the patreon TF edition version.

- - I would definitely like to get more images of the encampment like that one I got with the wright, succubus, neko, tentacle beast, and sleeping lamia. There's going to be at least one assignment I have planned that's so long you'll need to designate a leader for it if you don't go yourself and then that way they'll be the one to get to make the various choices that come up. I'm also thinking it'll be fun that you'll have a choice for them to try to take over when they get back in case you liked playing them so much.

- - There's not. If you get puppet leadered you become immune to being enslaved, as the encampment basically treats you like a slave by that point anyway. I can definitely see a case though there should be a way for things to go bad enough that both you and whoever is puppetting you ends up being enslaved. Could be a fun event that.

- - Biomancy is getting an improvement in the next release via a reward from one of the new assignments. That also was one of the needed steps on the storyline I have in mind for it. As to finishing? Well that could be awhile. There's a commission I need for the ending that will need to be done, likely when I can afford it as a bonus as it's one I want to keep as a surprise so will be only in the game. There's also at least one or two more assignments that will also have general usage outside of the storyline. I know how it ends, and that's all been worked out. I do though need to work out some more of the mid-steps and I'm not sure at this point how many there should be. Definitely will be at least one though and that will also need a commission.

- - Not sure what you mean by that one? Yes I do want to do more interaction between your slavers so they're not all focused so much on you. That will likely be more in dilemmas. Third, likely not. I prefer to keep that as a patron thing so I can give it more care and attention.

- - Well people did say they wanted to see more chests :D More seriously, WR is pretty much on hold due to the hostile reception the Twine conversion got. If you do like it, want to see more of it then please let me know, and I'll then be more likely to come back to it. Not a lot of point developing something that's a cat when people keep moaning that it's not a dog, and doesn't even bark, but if you do like the cat, and happy with it being a cat, I'm totally down for coming back so it's not such an unfinished cat. It's also entirely possible that metaphor got away from me so far.

- - This year has not been great to put it lightly. Then this one still does puzzle me. I do a public post on the patreon that's also linked on the twitter every two weeks, and I've given updates on how things are going. I've checked on another browser where I wasn't signed in and it worked fine? I've also been posting the patch notes on the current patreon release on the twitter as twitlongers so there also should be no issue with accessing those.

the worst pub crawl ever...

it’s been some time since i last tumbled. our new site is live and is working really well, too well perhaps and we’re super stretched.  but it’s a good problem.  I still wanna write a Black Lives Matter post, but first, while it’s fresh in my mind...

Yearly, the Kingston Town Neighbourhood (that’s the near-to-town-centre) councillors and some of the Licensing Committee (who decide policy on Kingston clubs and venues (but also off licenses and restaurants)) councillors do a tour of the town to try and get a handle on what happens at night in town. Now it’s no secret that my route into Council was via the belief (that i still have) that RBK doesn’t care or value night-time entertainment as much as it should. I’m pretty familiar with the venues we went to. I work in two of them weekly, and used to run events in another. Yet, as a Licensing member and a Kingston Town councillor, i was happy to go. Not least to make sure i was a part of the conversations.  My dumbed-down approach to this is i think the Lib Dems on council (of which I’m one) are minded to think “ah, let the young people have fun, but let’s make sure we minimise trouble.”  I think a significant number - but not all - of the Tories in administration have more of a “young people going clubbing are probably up to no good, but we have to put up with them”.  This year’s event, a kinda terrible pub-crawl, got upgraded a little with the London mayor’s Night Czar coming round to see what goes on, and the new KingstonFirst boss coming to view what the big percentage of Kingston BID payers do for a business.

Strangely, we started off at 11pm looking at a closed Rose Theatre and talking about the merits of it. Now, I’m obviously a huge fan of the place, but i thought this was a weird thing to do. We shoulda been in The Mill or The Druids. We walked along the river in a sorta sight-seeing tour, again posing for pictures in front of the bridge...  i was getting frustrated that this was turning into a tour of the town, rather than a tour of the night time venues. 

When we did get to Viper Rooms (formerly McClusky’s) it actually turned into what it was sposed to be. The 20-strong group of us (which included a BBC filming crew) went around and were shown how the scanning and search work. Kingston has an exceptionally high level of safety at night and in general.. We were also reminded how much work the guys at Viper do on river safety. They literally pulled people out of the water. Last night a DJ saved my life is nothing compared to these proper life savers.

The tour then went to Pryzm. On the way i had quite the chat with the Council Leader about Kingstonian’s plight. Off topic, sure, but i swear people involved in the decisions of the town don’t have all the info. They do now! Time was spent with the Street Pastors. A bunch of volunteers who look after people who need it, associated to - often a bit too much drinking - problems at night.

Pryzm is the venue with the cash spent on it. I’m always impressed by the PA. It’s not a place i visit as a punter, but it IS a place that each bigger town needs.

i was keen to hear of what Amy had to say about The Agent Of Change. It's hard to know what power the czar will actually have, but even for there to be a voice is important. I'm no Labour voter, but what Sadiq is trying to do must be welcomed. There was too much to talk about between Amy and myself on the night so we’ll continue a lot of this “off-line”  Anyway, at Pryzm, we were shown around the venue. Loads of the venues and councillors were so pre-occupied with talking about safety measures, which are obviously important, that not much time was spent on talking about the actual value of the places. the offer, the service, the atmopshere, the fun. I’m always worried even by the term Night Time Economy cos it makes everything seem like a black/red balance sheet, and not about the cultural benefit of these places. It’s been my criticism of the council and of Kingston First for years. 

After leaving there, the gang went to The Hippodrome - the home of New Slang. I won't talk too much about there, cos i do so every week. I love the place and the shell it gives us for some of the best moments i've experienced. It was good to see Hippodrome security actually making the councillors and officers use their ID to get in. Every week i see people say "I don't need ID, I'm 40". Decision makers don't understand the conflict this creates. I’m always saying how people don’t like having their ID scanned, using breathalisers, going through airport security...  I see the benefits, of course, and am not advocating taking it away (actually, I’d take away breathalisers right away - i dont accept that being too drunk to drive, is being too drunk to dance), but i think WAY more should be done on showing the benefits of this to the customer. Talk about encouraging safety, rather than presumption of danger. At this point i said a temporary goodbye as i had my day night job to get on with.

At 3AM, i met up with the council crew again, to see kicking out time. Now, obviously I’m a big fan of night time entertainment, but i do see the hassles. Kicking out time is surely one of the most tense. We watched from over the road at Viper, Pryzm, and then at Hippodrome like parents waiting at the school gate. The security did everything you’d want them to. Stopping one scuffle before it started, making sure people weren’t wandering pissed into roads, sending people on their way. The police presence was there, in case anything got out of hand. 

I feel everyone was suitably impressed.   For me, the bigger problems with anti-social behaviour from clubs are in the residential streets on the way home, rather than the town centre itself.I absolutely reject the idea that it’s unsafe to walk around Kingston at night. This view has been expressed by many on the Licensing Committee but I’m sure that anyone from that committee who was out with us last night can no longer have that view. I’m not sure if the actual appreciation of the venues and the service they provide is there tho. I guess that’s my battle. 

So shouts out to the councillors who came out of their comfort zone and went around the town. Less of a shout, but a “nice one”, to those who it’s in their comfort zone, but still spent the night walking around. Hopefully we can make more informed decisions now. 

One final footnote. We’ve heard that homelessness in Kingston has gone up 26% on last year. But man, when you are actually walking around the streets you really DO see the number of rough sleepers quite vividly. And that’s just the ones in view. It’s really sad and it’s getting worse. I hope that our eyes were open to the homelessness problem almost as much as our ears were open to the joys of night time entertainment, and we treat people with real problems as real people, not just potential beggars
