Hey yknow Glitch Productions? I’m gonna rank their villains.
Waluigi- 6/10. A funny interpretation of the “Everyone is Here!” Meme.
Bob- 8/10. The Rapper Bob Arc might be low stakes, but I really like how it twists a side character into a main antagonist. Bob slowly revealing just how twisted he’d become is amazing, and I’m glad they don’t forgive him right away.
Francis- 7/10. He’s the worst dude ever. Y’all remember when the Anime Arc was the darkest? Yeah me neither. In any case, Francis is also terrifying because if you’ve been on the internet for long enough, you’ve probably met someone like him.
SMG3- 8/10. Making a recurring villain the main villain of an arc was a solid choice, and it’s certainly menacing watching him replace the entire cast. I don’t have much else to say.
SMG0 (Or Eldritch Zero if you’re @itsgemystic)-6/10. He doesn’t really get much development other than his verses in the rap battle. He of course has to possess Axol because of course he does. We need some of that artificial drama and angst.
Niles- 8/10. The building tension in the arc of “Who is this guy? Why is he helping Melony? Why is his name Niles?” The slow realization of “Oh shit is this Zero?” has a looming presence. He doesn’t do much in the finale though.
Lawyer Kong- 4/10. He is essentially the representation of the existential dread that Nintendo has on the channel. But he’s not really utilized well. Small tangent, but the rap battle just feels so overconfident and exaggerated on the part of the SMG4 crew. I do adore his vocals just being drawn from the OG DK rap’s vocals. He sounds great, especially during the rap battle.
Wren- 9/10. He has some buildup as this greatly skilled champion during prior episodes and some allusions to him being looked down upon in recent years. Him being a villain isn’t too surprising, as the simulation itself builds him up as a dangerous outlaw. He immediately makes an impact on Meggy and the audience from just a few scenes. Overall, he’s a great execution of the “Pure Evil” trope. He doesn’t need to be redeemed. You understand his actions and know that he was influenced by someone else, but he’s still a terrible person.
Derek Lucks- 8/10. He’s a prideful businessman who won’t let morality get in the way of making money and advancing the industry.
James Sheridan- 8/10. He’s a scientist who spent years in the shadows, never getting recognized for his accomplishments. So now he’s going to show the world what he can do. He could’ve used more buildup, but he’s still a menacing villain whose presence is felt through the whole season.
Evelyn Claythorne- 9/10. She’s a spoiled rich white girl. That’s about it. She has some nuance, but it’s really not much. It’s incredible watching her getting slapped in the final episode imo.
Benedict- 7/10. He’s an evil genius crime boss who wants to be immortal. He’s not too complex or too threatening, but he’s definitely dangerous and immoral. Why does Meggy always have to fight the irredeemable ones?
EDIT: Okay so a few episodes of Murders Drones later and I have to rank…
The Absolute Solver- 8/10. Comedic and scary, but mostly exists to get the plot moving. Definitely menacing as of now, but I might update this once episode 7 is out, and definitely once episode 8 is out.

Hermit DSMP Swap AU: Part 8.1
Over the course of the next couple of days Scar helped George and Skeppy get settled in. He introduced them to the other Boatem People. There was Pearl, who lived in the upside down boat house, Impulse, who Skeppy thought looked a lot like a buffer version of George, and Mumbo, who had an impressive mustache and lived in an RV pulling a tiny house. 
Scar helped George build a mushroom house in the space between Pearl and Impulse's houses, while Skeppy very quickly got involved in helping Pearl prank everyone on the server by tipping their cows (and every other animal for that matter) upside down. She had to convince Skeppy not to tip anyone's named pets though. 
The Boatem hole was opened up to the void. Now that Skeppy could get a good look at it, it kind of terrified him. The never ending darkness. George tried to push Skeppy in, which led to Skeppy chasing George around with a diamond sword for a good ten minutes. Scar fell in several times. He seemed fine, though that could be debatable. Falling in the void had to have some kind of consequences, didn’t it?
Scar got a new, bigger, better hat. Skeppy tried stealing it, trading it back and forth with George as Scar chased them around Boatem begging for them to slow down. Pearl even showed up and joined in the hat trading, but then she made them give it back. There was something under her chipper mannerisms that neither of them wanted to cross. She was nice, but Tubbo was nice, he had nukes, Foolish was nice, he controlled lightning, Puffy was nice, she killed Ant. In their experience, nice meant dangerous. 
Grian got bored just sitting around all day and was soon back to his usual pranks. He summoned a giant tree golem with Pearl’s help that tried to eat Mumbo’s van till Mumbo talked to her and calmed her down. His peace, love and plants thing really did come in handy sometimes. Mambo found out that her name was Treesa. Now she just sat watching over Mumbo’s house and humming to herself with the sound of rustling leaves and groaning wood. Sometimes Mumbo could be seen sitting on her shoulder talking to her as she listened, her eye’s closed and her branches swaying in the breeze as she soaked in the sun.     
Impulse opened up a shop called I-Soar selling elytra and rockets. Skeppy and George were fascinated by them and when no one was looking they stole some elytra to give them a test run. Skeppy immediately flew into a wall and died, while George fared a little better but died when he tried to land. Everyone's inboxes were buzzing with notifications as a string of death messages appeared in the chat. It didn’t take long for Scar and Impulse to find the two culprits. Skeppy tried to jump off the roof he was standing on and fly away, but he timed it wrong and landed with a splat, his items going everywhere. George started running, he was on the ground and unable to get any air.
Impulse was easily able to catch up to him with his own elytra. When Skeppy returned for his stuff Scar and Impulse admonished them for stealing. Then they gave them some flying lessons, showing them how to use the rockets to give them a boost and how to land without taking damage. They were only fifty percent successful. Though, when they were done they made them return the Elytra. To be honest, Skeppy and George were both quite done with the whole affair and glad to be back on the ground. The novelty had worn off a while ago and Skeppy and George were tired of constantly dying to fall damage. 
Grian designed a game of hide and seek that involved the Dragon egg, while George and Skeppy secretly plotted to steal it when no one was looking. 
Skeppy also finally decided to build a base for himself. He collected a ton of diamonds. Some of them came from his enderchest (Which he seemed to still be able to access). A bunch of them he got from taking a page from Scar’s book and going door to door, selling the Hermits random junk. He may have also taken all the diamonds from the center of the diamond ore tower outside Cub’s base. They were just sitting there in the open, practically asking to be taken. Using these diamonds Skeppy made a diamond block box house (When he ran out of diamonds he used dirt) in the middle of the town center next to the Boatem pole. 
The look on Grian’s face when he saw it was totally worth all that work to get the diamonds. Grian practically begged him to take it down or move it. He even tried bribing him with more diamonds but Skeppy insisted that it was the most beautiful house in existence and he was going to live there forever. He even threatened to move it onto Grian’s front lawn. 
This place wasn’t that bad, Skeppy was actually enjoying himself here.

Skeppy was nowhere to be found. Bad had searched through their mansion, and at the locations of their various projects, he even looked around the Greater Dream SMP, calling Skeppy’s name the entire time. The Diamond was gone. 
This wasn’t the first time Skeppy had gone off on his own for weeks to sulk, only to come back a month later as if nothing happened. But usually he would at least make a big huff about how he was leaving and never coming back and how Bad was a bad friend. This time there was none of that. He had just left. 
Bad felt a tightness in his chest as tears pricked at his eyes. Was he really that bad of a friend? What had he even done to make Skeppy run off without even saying anything? They had already made up after the whole egg debacle. 
Bad shook his head “No, I’m a good friend. I’m the best friend. He’ll be back any day now, he’s probably just running errands or something,” Bad tried to convince himself... now that he thought about it he didn’t know where Skeppy went off to whenever he ran off. 
Without even realizing it Bad found himself standing near the entrance to the spider spawner... the entrance to the Egg’s domain. He stopped. He had been free of the Egg’s influence for several months now. But the egg might know how to find Skeppy. The Egg could find Skeppy. No. Bad tore his eyes away, shaking his head and walking briskly down the path in the other direction. He had tried that before, it hadn’t ended well for him.  
Bad felt a pit in his stomach. He genuinely regretted the things he had done while under the Egg’s influence. But the Egg could give him what he wanted. No. it never actually gave him what he really wanted, he knew that now. He knew that then too, he just hadn’t wanted to believe it... He didn’t need the Egg... but... it would be there. As a last resort. If all else failed.
[Notes: This one was inspired by another comment by @the-local-scp, Thanks again. I wasn’t originally planning on writing Bad’s perspective for a while. Skeppy runs off all the time. But then I thought about it and it makes sense that he would notice. He always notices, and this time he has no idea why Skeppy left. Anyway, I hope you all enjoyed. This is the end of my pre-written stuff. The next one is probably going to be a bit of a long one so it may take a while before it gets posted, or I may break it up into smaller chunks... we’ll see]

You know what? Screw it! I’m gonna explain to everyone WHY I call myself a yaoi fanboy and WHY i don’t bash the genre or its fans.
With all those asks I’ve been getting trying to start discourse, I feel like I might as well.
Before I go on, I’m not going to go too deep into any personal shit obviously but I don’t entirely need to in order to do this. Still, like JaidenAnimations, I’ll only be giving the cliff notes version, okay? Okay.
(That said, this still ended up being longer than I anticipated so under a cut it goes!)
So I first started to notice how not-straight I was around high school and at that same time I was getting really really into anime and manga. I was also becoming a major troper, perusing TV Tropes on a nigh constant basis. Yes, this is relevant because they had a whole library of anime and manga for me to discover.
And of course there was also Fanfiction.net, Deviantart and Tumblr itself. Those were pretty big influences.
So why are these relevant? Well it’s because these are all where I discovered how much I liked seeing anime guys kiss. And that was also part of how I came to terms with the fact that I was bisexual.
I think it started out small. Ouran High School Host Club, not yaoi but contains many references to the genre, was my first “proper” anime, and I got into Hetalia later on. Later, while waiting for episodes of Monster on SyFy channel’s anime block, I watched Descendants of Darkness, which isn’t yaoi but is kinda “yaoi adjacent” if that makes sense. I really enjoyed it, but more specifically I loved it for the strong, affectionate bond its two male leads had. It wasn’t a perfect show, no, but it was enjoyable and it was easily my first peek into what would someday become my fondness for yaoi.
Next I got into Gravitation, I believe, my first actual yaoi and likely the most quintessential of them. It was a fun show for me, but I won’t deny, it was problematic to a degree. Still, I enjoyed it and Ryuichi Sakuma remains one of my favorite anime characters to this day.
and of course, over the course of all this, I was getting really big on reading gay fanfics.
Now how did all of this help me come to terms with my sexuality? Well, you may not believe this, but it kinda…and I hate this fuckin’ term but “normalized” same gender relationships for me? Like, the more yaoi or yaoi adjacent works I read and watched, the more I thought “yes, it is normal for me to be attracted to other men; it is okay for me to want a romantic relationship with another man”.
I’m not gonna pretend it wasn’t problematic of course. A lot of yaoi is problematic; aside from the…questionable relationship the genre has with consent, it should still be remembered that most yaoi—not all, but most—is written by straight women, for straight women and with a straight woman’s understanding of how gay or mspec men work. I am not denying that, and I generally avoided the skeevier shit, like all those ones where the “dominant” partner is portrayed as predatory and gross.
BUT—and this is very important—regardless of that, yaoi was still an outlet for me. An outlet through which I could explore my sexuality and become more comfortable with it. I didn’t have a lot of exposure to works that do lgbtqa+ representation better—the only western media exposed myself to was a bunch of cartoons where the gays were either non existent or stereotypical side characters and frickin’ Harry Potter which was determined to never have any lgbt rep at all—nor did I have a lot of works that went into detail about mlm relationships. Yaoi and anime/manga that borrowed from the genre was my main outlet to explore that stuff…and it helped me a lot.
And here’s the thing: I don’t even do yaoi shit anymore. I still ship gay couples more than straight ones but I don’t think in terms of the yaoi genre anymore. And for good reason! We now have plenty of gay representation in media! It’s wonderful and I’m happy about that! I’m ecstatic! I’m so glad we as a community have been getting better representation over the years. Even in the anime industry, we got stuff like Nabari no Ou, Yuri on Ice, Sk8 the Infinity, etc., works that are either explicitly lgbt or have undertones thereof and sometimes are even written by lgbt authors (the author of Nabari no Ou is non-binary, for example).
And yet…I can’t really bring myself to rail against yaoi or to bash it or its fans or do anything of the sort like that. Because while it may be a slightly cursed and embarrassing memory for me…it still helped me more than it harmed me. I know my experiences are not the same as everyone else’s, I understand that. And again, I know the yaoi genre has issues. I’m not denying that at all.
But at the same time, I would really, REALLY like it if y’all didn’t treat my experiences as invalid, simply because of the media I used as an outlet or god forbid, my identity as a bisexual.

Great Pretender: Series Reflection
Great Pretender is the kind of anime I’m always glad to see more of. It’s got a unique artistic stile that doesn’t feel like anything else on the market. It focuses on adult characters pulling off the kind of caper you’d typically see in Hollywood movies. It expands beyond the boundaries of Japan to explore a whole world full of colorful personalities and even more colorful settings. Great Pretender is fresh in a way you don’t often see with anime, a madcap adventure that takes influence from many sources but is nevertheless entirely itself. And if there’s one thing I can thank Netflix for, it’s allowing more anime this diverse and imaginative to exist and find their audience. We need more shows like Great Pretender, shows unafraid to chart their own path through this medium. I wish every anime could have this much confidence in itself, this much passion behind its creation, this much obvious love of storytelling and desire to give the audience something special. And even if it’s not a perfect ride all the way to the end, I’ll always appreciate that level of ambition over something that doesn’t even try at all.
From its first episode, Great Pretender hits the ground running and doesn’t let up. Each of its first three arcs is a perfect package of tightly woven swerves, misdirection and verve, lasting exactly as long as it needs to and making every single second count. Even if you can guess where it’s going, the thrill of getting there is so entertaining it barely matters. Not to mention how entertaining it is just watching the characters bounce off each other; every single moment Abby is on screen is a priceless treasure. And that excellent writing is further highlighted by an incredible production from Studio WIT. A kickass soundtrack that flows seamlessly from high-tempo jazz to trap beats, a gorgeous pop art style that lavishes every frame with beauty, strong direction that makes every location come alive... every moment of this show bursts with personality and style. I could spend all day soaking in its atmosphere, basking in the striking colors and gorgeous vistas. It is, if you’ll pardon the pun, the art of the con personified.
But for all its impressive style, it’s this show’s heart that makes it truly special. Each arc gives a different character a chance to shine, and the way their past traumas are explored in tandem with the high-octane skullduggery is nothing short of remarkable. Makoto’s unfortunate circumstances, Abby’s death wish, Cynthia’s lost love, all cut right to the core and make these cons so much more than simple heists. These are deeply personal missions, missions that lay bare open wounds still bleeding and explore the pain that binds people to their past. They explore themes of what it means to move past trauma, how others’ mistakes can drag you down with them, how you can’t slap a price on beauty, what it means to go against the law to take down those causing harm. And time and time again, it pulls them off with the same acrobatic grace it affords its deliriously entertaining plot. It is stunning how powerful this show can be, how poetically it weaves humanity into the fabric of its being, even as it keeps its foot resolutely on the gas pedal. It’s honestly kind of a writing miracle; packing so much meaning into such small packages without making them feel rushed or overstuffed is a skill worth taking seriously. And those first three arcs are evident of just how fucking skilled this show is. I would happily re-watch LA Connection, Singapore Sky, and Snow of London as perfect, self-contained caper flicks; that’s how excellent they are.
Sadly, the last and longest arc is nowhere near as well constructed. It’s got too much going on, it loses sight of the consequences that drive good drama, and it stumbles into overly coincidental writing that goes against so much of what made this show good to begin with. It’s not a disaster, but it’s definitely a mess, and it’s a frustrating sour note to end on when things started out so well. Regardless, though, Great Pretender at its best was still amazing, and not even its mishandled second half is enough to diminish its luster in my eyes. Thus, I give it a score of:

Digimon Adventure: 2020 – Episode 1: Tokyo: Digital Crisis! (Review)
Thoughts on the first episode of the Digimon Adventure reboot series.
Disclaimer: I just want to make it clear that I’m watching and reviewing Digimon Adventure: 2020 in the context of it being a children’s anime -- because that’s what it is. By design, it’s obviously going to be “dumb” to the mind of the average adult. But that’s OK, because it’s for kids. And for a first episode aimed at children? It was pretty good.
The opening credits were 99% Taichi and I don’t like it if it’s permanently going to be this way. But I’m hoping that it will change to perhaps be character-centric to the person being “highlighted” in a particular episode, going through all eight kids, until there’s a permanent one where all eight are equally in it. I also hope the same for the ending credits.
I noticed that Angemon and Angewomon were missing from the opening credits, whereas the other digimon evolutions are shown. So I assume they’re following in OG Adventure’s footsteps and doing the whole “special angel” evolution reveal? I’m OK with that. It seems really interesting how they’re setting up Takeru and Hikari to be included this time (as they were both missing in the ending credits with the other five standing opposite Yamato . . .).
Both the opening and ending songs are fine, but I prefer the original songs, especially Butter-Fly. You are missed, Kouji Wada. <3
The art and animation of this series is really good. Toei Animation are really putting money into this series. I’m impressed.
I have mixed feelings about how they chose to introduce the characters. On the one hand, I think utilising just two characters is great to really highlight them to the audience and not overwhelm them with too much information. But on the other hand . . . I think introducing all eight characters in the first episode would make it appeal to more kids, because they can easily identify with one kid and keep watching the series. But a kid might watch this first episode, not like Taichi or Koushirou, and just switch off from the series completely. But I think what they went for is probably best for how they plan to introduce the characters (particularly regarding what they have in store for Yamato being a lone wolf who joins them later).
Taichi was a bit too generic to me. But, it’s only the first episode, so this isn’t a real criticism -- I’m sure he’ll be fleshed out as the series progresses. He also seems more responsible than OG Taichi. And while I do like his new voice, I think Toshiko Fujita was a lot better; she managed to convey more personality in her voice.
Koushirou was actually quite “cute”. But I’m not sure I totally like that he’s being portrayed as shy . . . he never seemed shy to me in the original series, but just a kid who was super absorbed in his own tech world. But his shyness did make him more endearing? I’m just not used to it so I find it a bit unsettling. But it does “humanise” him more and thus makes him more relatable, rather than just a distant tech nerd, so I guess it’s a positive? I also really like his voice.
I am liking the Taichi/Koushirou friendship a lot. You can tell Koushirou is going to completely idolise Taichi for making him feel included and “useful”. And let’s be real: Koushirou has always been the most underrated character when it comes to popularity, relative to actual impact on the plot, because he’s actually the one who solves almost everything and he doesn’t get nearly as much credit for it as he deserves in the fandom. It’s nice that they’ve spotlighted him with Taichi in this episode.
So apparently Mimi’s family owns a conglomerate because they made both Koushirou’s tablet computer and Takeru’s hat? I always thought the weird “TK” scrawled on his hat was for his name (TaKeru or T.K.), but apparently it’s for TachiKawa! Wow, Mimi is insanely rich this time around (moreso than the first). Princess indeed!
Takeru’s design is so freaking adorable. I still think his clothes are a bit off, but his face is so adorable! And I didn’t really think that of OG Takeru. I mean . . . I guess he was kind of adorable, but not overwhelmingly so like this one! He hasn’t said one line but, OMG, the cuteness. *SQUISH*
Did anyone notice that in Takeru’s room, there is a poster of an ASTRONAUT? OMG I loved that! What a nice throwback to Yamato’s future career in OG Adventure (and thus to the 02 epilogue!). I can imagine reboot Yamato idolising astronauts and influencing Takeru into liking them, too. Awesome Easter egg there!
So the Crests are showing up right from the start. No rehash of finding the Tags and Crests, then! (Or will they find the physical forms later?) I really like how different from OG Adventure it already is, while keeping touches of the old as well. Toei have done a good job with mixing the old and new so far. Keep it up!
I thought Taichi’s meeting with Agumon was super cute and quite “realistic” with Taichi reaching his hand out to “pet” Agumon! Though Taichi is obviously more courageous than the average person, because uh, I would be afraid that dino would bite my hand off, lol.
I thought Agumon’s evolution “sequence” to Greymon was really cool, but at the same time, I did miss an actual evolution sequence like the OG one. It’s probably just nostalgia making me feel that way. I can accept this new version though! It feels very “updated”.
It was very fast-paced compared to OG Adventure. I’m not sure I entirely like that Agumon evolved so easily and so quickly to Greymon in the very first episode, but it also didn’t seem to hinder the episode. But where do they go from here? What do they have planned to pad out this series if things happen so quickly? I’m intrigued to find out!
Oh, remember how I said less than 24 hours ago that I might not even like reboot Yamato? Yeah, well . . . throw that idea out the window, because the dude had two seconds at the end of this episode and HE ALREADY WON ME OVER lmao. He had NO LINES and was still the highlight of the episode for me. My attachment to him is insane. (Of course, I’m hoping he doesn’t turn out to be a super douche, lol.) I like that he was “chosen” before Taichi and was in the Network before him. What have you been up to in there, Yamato?
While I LOVED the ending credits, as I said before, I hope it changes to be central for each specific character (going through all eight kids), before there is a permanent main ending that includes all the characters equally. I really don’t like how Toei Animation seems to forget that there are EIGHT CHARACTERS and not just two. Come on, Toei, do the right thing!
But . . . let’s talk about the ending credits. IT WAS AMAZING. It characterised Yamato so much without him saying a word. I love that he’s still a lone wolf, that music is still a big part of his life (a bass at 11!), and that his love for Takeru is still so genuine. There was also a pivotal scene where it shows Jou, Mimi, Taichi, Sora and Koushirou standing together, and Taichi smiles at Yamato, who hesitantly steps forward to join them. I loved that! It made me think about the discarded plot where “Yamato might’ve separated from the group entirely” -- it seems like this is a reverse version and I can’t wait to see it play out. The scene that inspired that discarded plot idea was when Yamato decides to fight Taichi, and Sora yells at him to stop -- and I just loved her reactions to him throughout that arc. Especially because, if Taichi had turned on the group, I think Sora’s first instinct would be to conk him over the head -- but she gives Yamato a massive pass and then supports him to separate from the group to find himself. My Sorato thoughts are already swirling about how Sora will react to Yamato in this reboot! Will she hate him at first? Will she ask him to join? Oh my, they haven’t even interacted in this reboot and I’m already shipping them, lmao. I hope Sorato still have a connection in this reboot!
Overall, I liked it for a children’s anime. And I never would have watched it if it wasn’t a reboot with the original Adventure cast, as I have only seen a few episodes of Tamers, Frontier and Savers . . . and a few seconds where Yamato shows up in Xros Wars, lol. I’m not interested in Digimon, I’m interested in the Adventure cast. So I’m really glad this reboot exists! I’ll happily watch all episodes of this series because it’s more of my kids goddamnit. XD
Oh, and I just want to apologise that even though the episode was focussed on Taichi and Koushirou, I used screenshots of Yamato and Sora for the episode post . . . I’m sorry, I’m a Sorato blog! XD;
I think I will do a weekly Digimon Adventure: 2020 “review”, because the episodes are only 20-ish minutes long and it’s easy enough to consume and write about. And even if I might not have a lot to say about a particular episode, I can still spam Sorato screenshots, lol. :P
I can’t wait for the next episode! Because: YAMATO. <3

Sorry it took so long, but I finished the text translation of Filled It With My Feelings, the Senyuu 10th anniversary book! I didn’t translate the Season 1 Episode 1 redraw though because I’m sure we can all recite what happens in there by heart at this point. 
As it’s an illustration book, the translation is meant to be read along with the pictures - you can purchase the digital PDF of the book at hiaruron.booth.pm/items/2329424. You should be able to purchase it through PayPal or some international credit cards.
I’ve included the text under the cut, but you can also read it on the Google Docs here. 
Please note I do not give permission to anyone to use this translation for scanlations. There’s a reason why I’m posting this as a text translation rather than as a scanlation - it reads perfectly fine along with the raw book.

The story of Senyu first arrived on Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010 at 12:39 PM. Naturally, at that point, the name “Senyu” didn’t yet exist - a email was sent to my inbox entitled “A discussion about a new project.”
It was a rather vague email with few details, but at the time, I  was working as a day labourer in a certain distribution centre in Tokyo’s Ota Ward. As I hauled around boxes, my days were filled with uneasy thoughts of my future- I gave up on becoming a mangaka, I started work at an anime company but I quit there too, what am I going to do from now on? So I pounced on that vague email- Maybe this will shine some clarity into my life!
Senyu. was the product borne out of that email, and to my great appreciation, it really did shine clarity into my life. My future, which had been dark and uneasy, was illuminated bright by the light of Senyu. I would like to say that was why I made the protagonist’s name “Alba” - which means dawn - but unfortunately, that isn’t the case. I only learned the meaning of Alba’s name later - it was a total coincidence. 
Anyways, a lot has happened, but it’s now Senyu’s tenth anniversary.
Thank you very much. I never thought that I could continue for this long. This is all thanks to all of you, for supporting me all this way. 
Senyu. is a part of my life at this point - I don’t plan to end it any time soon, so I will be counting on everyone for their continued support.

Alba
While this may be obvious, the character I’ve spent the most time with in this work no longer feels like a mere “character” to me. 
He had a beta design with bangs. But since I thought he might seem more cheerful with his forehead showing, I settled on his current design. I intended to give him a haircut that was similar to characters like Kirimaru, but my lack of artistic skills at the time ended up giving him a hairstyle with a bizarre composition. 
I struggle now with how to draw his hair well.
Hero Symbol
I’ve always liked the idea of accessories that had the symbol of a hero, so wanting to have the same concept in my own work, I did my best to think up a design. I was really happy when it came out as merch.

Ros
His backstory is really something!
I feel like he carried the entirety of Senyu’s serious plotlines on his back. I thought of Senyu. as like a story that uses the protagonist Alba to give the completed story of Hero Sion a happy ending? 
There were times when I was drawing things out that I thought, He feels kinda pitiful? But then in the story, Ros says, “Don’t judge people as pitiful by your own standards,” so then I thought, I-I’m sorry.
His equipment at the start was supposed to be like a machine that let him whip around his heavy sword like it was nothing, but everything ended before I explained any of that.

Rchi
At the start, I just thought of her as a cute little girl. But gradually, she grew darker and darker, and by now, the dark aspects of her personality are a part of what makes her unique as a character.
Her hair accessory often disappears. Near the start, there was the explanation that it was confiscated when they were arrested, but beyond that it’s just because I forgot to draw it.
There was an explanation for why she was naked under her cloak during her first appearance, but I’ve forgotten it. I believe it was because since she was camping outside, she washed herself outside as well but her clothes were blown away by the wind - so she wrapped an old cloth around herself…?

Foyfoy
The name “Foyfoy” was decided by an audience poll. At first, I was planning to make him Chinese-inspired, but before I realized it that concept had disappeared. His mark is leftover from that original idea.
Foyfoy’s hairstyle is one I drew often when I was a student. I often gave rivals or secondary main characters this hairstyle. 
I’m glad I could draw a design like this in an official work.

Alles
A character drawn specifically with boobs that a Haruhara who was too embarrassed to draw boobs drew because “I can’t run from boobs!” The reason why I stopped drawing her midway through isn’t because of my embarrassment, but because I wasn’t used to drawing them, so since I never practiced it, I forgot how to.
Princess-chan
TL: This is written with the kanji for “Princess” rather than the katakana for “Hime” as her name is usually written.
She was meant to be a cute, elegant girl, so it shocked me when she immediately ended up as a violent character from her first appearance.
Since I hadn’t decided on a name for her, in the anime her name was listed as ???. I caused trouble for the anime staff.

Rudolf
I can’t help but feel that eldery soldiers are cool. When I was doodling for fun, I often drew eldery soldiers.
Himendam
I thought of a development where a cute girl pops out from a nice big suit of armour, so I created the Himendam.
At the time, I thought, “This is a pretty unusual development, it’s great!” but now that I think back on it, it’s actually pretty common.
Slime
The first monster to appear. The first monster you fight should be a slime! Slimes should be blue! I’ve been influenced by Dragon Quest in that way.
I had this child of mine show up as your standard old monster in order to increase the impact of the panda who would show up right after.

Minister
While I honestly have no idea why the minister is always standing next to the king, usually that’s the case in RPGs, right? 
So I had him stand next to the king in the same way. I feel as though his overall image is influenced by Magical Circle Guru Guru’s Kaya. While I hadn’t realized it while designing him, Kaya’s design affected me unconsciously.
The King
His whole thing was “a super serious old man that makes a stupid face during funny scenes,” but before I realized it, his stupid face became his default expression.
He just may be the nastiest character in the series, considering he wrapped up the entire world in his schemes for his own personal desires.
Mob Characters
The mob characters in my work tend to have this face. I like how they tend to make cutting comments while having non-descript faces.

Suit
When Ros’ design went from complicated equipment to this thing, I was shocked at how much easier it was to draw.
I think this thing was what triggered me striving for easiness in my work. Can I blame everything on this thing instead of me? 
Just kidding, it’s all my fault.
Fake Foyfoy
If you don’t make careful enough observations, you can’t make a perfect disguise, and you end up in an idiotic costumed-character-like disguise. I wanted to use this plot device a few times more after this, but I didn’t have any chance to use it at all.
Mii-chan
Haruhara happens to have had a stuffed animal for as long as he can remember, and he still has it since he’s never been able to throw it away. I feel as though that stuffed animal served as the model for Mii-chan. In terms of his colour and overall atmosphere.
But my stuffed animal isn’t a pervert like him!

Samejima
A delinquent overflowing with manliness. What’s with his hairstyle, I wonder. It’s actually pretty easy to draw. 
He just might never lose against anyone so long as he thinks, “There’s no way I can lose.”
Januar
I stuffed in everything my little sister likes into his appearance. “Straight-cut bangs, black-haired, one-eyed, droopy eyes.” But it isn’t as though I went and got her feedback directly so she might just tell me, “He’s not my type at all.”
I chose his personality based on my tastes- “A kind idiot.”

Teufel
I thought of a “butler who doesn’t obey orders” around the same time as a “soldier who doesn’t listen to what you say.”
I wanted to have him appear at some point in the future, but then I saw a book called The After-Dinner Mysteries in a book store, which made me think- “M-m-m-m-maybe this book has a butler who doesn’t obey orders as well?!” So I panicked, ran back home, and drew out the head butler’s story. 
That’s why the head butler’s story was shoved in out of nowhere.
I read The After-Dinner Mysteries after I wrote in all the butler plot devices I wanted to use, and it was interesting.
At the start, Ros had his three burrs hairstyle so his design was differentiated from Teufel’s, but from Season 2 forwards I struggled with differentiating them. 
So Teuf-kun has been going through some small design changes, a bit at a time.

Nisepanda
Before Dwango reached out to me, there was a manga I thought up with the plot “a zoo with an easily deceived curator.”
I planned to have a nisepanda appear in that work. The plot device was, “They thought it was a panda, but they were given a mysterious lifeform instead.”
Death Hot Dog-kun
A character that was born during the enthusiastic atmosphere during a meeting with my editor.
We happened to be eating hot dogs during the meeting.
I barely ever have these meetings for my other works, but for Senyu, I’ve been having meetings like this for years. So through sheer enthusiasm and cheer, things like mysterious characters and plot devices end up being created during the meetings.

Dezember
Mysterious characters in manga often show up with their face cast in shadows. Dezember was born because I thought, “Why not make those shadows real?” But he ended up as a cooler character than I expected, using his shadows to attack and such.
I wanted to base him off of a toy for future plot developments, but I’m really glad I decided to based him off of dice. He became a really good character.
August
I think he’s actually a really nice person.
My editor for Main Quest really liked August, so whenever they got the chance they tried to push for more August.
Avril
A character that’s rather rare for Senyuu - one that just genuinely does bad things for bad reasons. I planned to draw her as really evil so you could tell she was a bad person, but she ended up just casually munching on bread - it really surprised me.
Neun
Back when his only appearance was a silhouette, I just wanted to make people think of that character at first. But now that I really think about the design I thought up for him after - isn’t he pretty cute?
Juli
Just like Foyfoy, I often drew characters with this hairstyle back when I was a student. I usually gave it to trustworthy ally characters. I like his design and personality quite a bit - sorry I haven’t used you much…

The Shadows
It’s super cool to be able to split your body for each die face. I also feel like it’s a great character setting that each split has his own personality. A thought just crossed my mind - couldn’t I draw a manga just based around the Dezembers’ home life? 
...I guess it would end up like Osomatsu-san...?

Zwei
I wanted to use the concept that she was old despite her looks because she was a demon, so I had her dentures fly out - but now that I think about it, there’s other old demon characters, including some characters older than Zwei. So that would make her dentures a result of her own problematic lifestyle, not because of her old age…
Wanna Stab~
A mob among mobs, who ranked high in a popularity poll. I shall now grant him a name - “Phoenix the Rich”.
Mortmome
The stuff on his shoulder does some mysterious things, preventing his body from turning as well when the drill turns.

The Great Mage
The cape he wears is very warm. His research assistants gifted him the cape as a present for his birthday sometime in his later years of life, as they were worried about his health. That’s why Alba always wears the cape.
Elf
He’s meant to be someone who knows the secrets of the world - but I can’t count the number of times I considered whether it would be better to just make him a regular old funny character. Good on you for surviving through all that, Elf!
Alf
While I did want there to be a “Elf’s best friend” character, I hadn’t thought about his name at all. So when it came time for him to appear, I really struggled with it. I wanted to make his name like Alba and Ros (Albatross) or Salt and Lake (Salt Lake)…
I may have struggled the most with Alf’s name among all my characters, considering I usually just pick names on instinct.

Salt and Lake and Lym
The Hero Academy trio. At first, I planned for Salt to become the Demon Lord, but when I sat down to draw everything out, Lake ended up in that role - it really shocked me.
I had always planned for the story to shift from the adventure setting of Seasons 1 and 2 to the school setting of Season 3. Though the end result is completely different from what I imagined. 
Season 3 was really fun to draw since it defied my expectations at every turn.

Lyman
I wanted to draw a pathetic older man. I also want his scar to be because of some pathetic reason like “He tripped at a bar.”
Elmer
I reused the soldier design I thought up prior to thinking up Alba and Ros. He’s a little older than Rchi.
Justice
Justice is her ally. In other words, I wanted to make a character where no matter what she does, “I’m doing it, so it’s just!”
But it was too difficult to figure out how to deal with a character like that, so I ended up just making a regular old hotheaded reckless character. 
In the end though, she ended up as a character I quite like.

Grandpa
A character who loves money. Since I love characters who love money, he’s a character that’s fun to use. It doesn’t actually have to be money, I like characters true to their own desires in general.
Hasegawara-kun
He was originally meant to be a silent character, but I got the urge to make him talk right before I was going to send in the manuscript. Since I wouldn’t make it if I typesetted his speech, I wrote his lines myself. By writing his lines in a way that can only be expressed through handwriting, I made it seem like I planned that from the start.
I made his speech typesetted again after I did that plot where he speaks super eloquently. 
Rib Man
He requires no explanation! 
It was funny when he moved in the anime.

Sochi and Co.
There’s a game called Medabots - in that game, a character called Samantha leads a three-person team called the Screws. I’ve always liked that team since I was a kid. And then, I learned that my editor for Senyu was close with people who were involved with creating the original Medabots. So I had my editor tell them, “I want to put in characters I respect! Please leave it be!” 
Please google the Screws that I respect, I respect them.
Lucop
I had vaguely thought up what was going to happen until the end of season 4 of Senyu. But since I’ve done everything I originally thought up, F5 - which I’m drawing now - is all based on plot developments I thought up in +. 
-I’ve been saying that for a while now. Lucop as well was just a throwaway joke at first. But as I started moving him around, amazing developments like “Huh? No way… you had a past like this…?” burst out of him, and so he became the current Lucop.

Midnight
A travelling doctor. As he treats his patients, he’s also searching for a cure to Mom’s mysterious disease. He’s a completely normal person with no special powers. He wanted Alba to become strong through his own power, not through familial connections.
Cecily
A mother who adores her children. I think it’s pretty amazing that she managed to raise Lake up herself and send him off to school despite being blown off to a mysterious place out of nowhere.

Rchimedes the Second and his wife
Rchimedes the Second and his wife. (T/N: Yes, it’s written twice.)
Daromeon-san, who’s currently illustrating Kengan Ashura, was the one to draw the ridiculously beautiful backgrounds in the flashback arc in Season 2 when the Second was imprisoned. When I complained that I couldn’t draw it, he drew me amazingly beautiful.backgrounds. 
The Second’s design is based off of a mysterious preconception I have that “Demon Lords should wear raggedy capes.” Mama’s design is based on those soothing, kind moms you often see in anime.
The Mana Maker that he holds in this picture isn’t any particular Mana Maker. I just wanted to let a Mana Maker show up in a group picture.

Rchimedes
While he’s tremendously evil, he ended up being quite loved. The Senyu characters I designed near the start wear clothes that I would never design now - I really think it’s amazing. Why did I dress him up in a jumpsuit when I decided to draw a Demon Lord?
On a side note, I imagined that the white part of his clothes peels off smoothly like tape if you pull at it from his neck. 
Crea
Since he took back his body from Rchimedes, his height shouldn’t have changed, but for some reason he mysteriously shrunk.

Originia
In a way, the story of these three marks the start of Senyu. Originia comes from me messing around with the the word “Original”. 
Rchimedes' scariest era just might be when he was living alone with Sion in Originia. Even though at first glance, it seems like he was living a peaceful, cheerful life with Sion, though occasionally getting beat up by him. But in reality, just what was he thinking deep inside, as he lived out his life, watching Crea and Sion?
Since I’m the author, I can generally imagine what my characters think just by thinking about it. But when it comes to Rchimedes during this time, all that comes to mind is “Scary scary scary”, and I can’t really think any further in detail.
I’m often asked “What’s Rchimedes’ original eye colour?”, but I think it was probably blue. I feel like I drew his eyes as blue somewhere, but I can’t remember…
Crea’s clothes slung around his shoulders that don’t fall off for whatever reason are actually sewn on - that’s why they don’t fall off. Crea sewed it on himself. While his threadwork is rough, it’s very sturdy. I think it’s wild and cool.
I showed a bit of what Sion did in the main story, but he generally did things like hauling supplies for hunting, looking far in the distance since his eyes are good, and going shopping in far-off cities for the village. Things like that.

The two from Elf and Alf’s universe. Since Rchimedes’ magic research hasn’t progressed that much, they mostly fight with brute force. Since Crea never had his body stolen, he’s doing well. (He’s not doing well at all.)

When I was a kid, I read in a manga, “‘Hero’ isn’t something you call yourself - it’s a title you’re granted by others.” I remember thinking, “I see, that certainly makes sense,” and agreeing with it. I also thought, “While you generally think of heroes as being brave and splendid, the person who’s actually adventuring might not be able to stand expectations like that sometimes.”
Creasion may be a character borne out of those feelings of mine.
Ros, please have tons of sweets and smile tons as well.

Sleepiez
When I thought of the name “Sleepiez” in Senyu+, I didn’t think much of it except “There’s an anti-Alba organization”. I also planned for Boss to be a new character. But after I took the time to think about it properly, the Sleepiez in their current form were born.
Thanks to the current Sleepiez being created, F5 was able to start even though I thought before “I’ve already done everything I want to do with Senyu, I can’t make another proper season.”
If there was no Sleepiez, I feel like + would’ve lazily continued, then at some good cut-off point, I feel like I would’ve been told, “Do you think it’s about time to end it?”
A tenth anniversary for example… it would’ve been a good cut-off point… how scary!
Boss
I can’t write about most of the Sleepiez members just yet, so I’ll be talking about Boss as their representative. 
Boss is an alternate universe’s Alba, so despite being Boss, he’s still Alba, and so I want to make him feel like Alba still. But since he’s Boss he can’t retort or make jokes, since it would ruin his dignity. So at the very least, I gave him Alba’s fashion sense to keep his Alba feel. Since his heart stained black and he became evil, his fashion sense naturally became eviller as well, but he’s still Alba, the base is still Alba. He’s wearing clothes that kinda feel like a middle schooler who just discovered fashion for the first time, like he hasn’t managed to go full evil in terms of clothes just yet.
Now I can keep Boss as Boss while still giving him an Alba feel! ...is what I thought, but… does he actually still have that feel…?

Alba with Mana 
It made me happy that my wish for my protagonist to become the strongest at the end was granted. I thought up a lot of reasons for why only one of his eyes is red, like how it’s because his awakening is still incomplete, etc., but the number one reason is “it’s cool.” 
A single red eye is cool, right?! It’s cool right?!
Now that he can use his mana to some extent, he controls his overwhelming mana to hold it back, so his eyes are both back to black now.

SQ Senyuu.
I had this conversation once-
Y-san from Dwango told me, “I want to take Senyu to a magazine to have it serialized!” 
I thought it would be awesome if it actually happened, so I approved it. Then I was like, “If you do take it to a magazine, where would you take it?”
Then Y-san responded, “Well, if you say ‘magazine’, you think Jump.”
And I was like, “Nah nah, Jump would be impossible, ahahaha.”
I never thought that Y-san would actually bring me an offer for serialization in Jump - Y-san was way too capable. Since my personal experience with Jump all started from there, I’m really grateful!

Afterword
Since I’ve remade Senyu Episode 1 many times before, I thought that I would never remake it again. But then I thought- why don’t I remake Episode 1 at the exact time it was originally released ten years ago, as celebration! So I ended up remaking it again.
But I think it may be my first time remaking it without changing any of the jokes or content.

A Rendezvous with Moscow Doomers Train To Elsewhere

This is a momentous occasion for people around the world who appreciate Stoner Doom Metal and its hybrid forms. The Russian Train to Elsewhere has been solid all along. Then, on May 21, 2021, they played live at Peak Sound Endless Misery Doom Fest, revealing their new lineup to the public. And it’s absolutely astonishing.
On June 9th they released the audio as a bootleg. Lead guitarist Maria K. "Gerard" integral to the band all along, now debuts the recording of her vocals, which intertwine with the lead vocalist, Anna Utopian, who also plays keyboards and stepped in to replace the previous vocalist. On drums we have M'aiq the Liar, Olga on the rhythm guitar that keeps me going and going with this band, and on bass, Anton "Vargtimmen" Bryukov. Their previous singer, Denis Generalov, is no longer with the band. We’ll miss him and always appreciate his massive contribution to the previous demo and album. I’m glad to see that in the wake of his moving onward, the band didn’t falter. In fact, this new era of Train to Elsewhere is electrifying.
Live at Peak Sound (Official Bootleg) by Train to Elsewhere
Their sound is hypnotic and contemplatively atmospheric. The excellent drums are pared down to the essentials, as the best Doom drums are. The slow lullaby groove takes us into the imaginative liminal world of Nod as if we’re on a sleeper car bumping over the metal tracks, hypnagogic images combining the forest landscape outside the window with the mind inside. They play everything at a slow, minimalistic, heavy pace, never giving into the egotistical show of shredding to demonstrate just how fast they can play meaningless notes. No, conversely, every note matters.
Anna Utopian’s expressive vocals are consistently strong and delicious, beautifully doing justice to the intense lyrics while she creates Eastern atmospherics on the keyboards. Rarely does any Metal band have so much female representation within it. All the women in this band come across as authentic, being purely themselves as much as the men are, which can be a challenging project, considering the objectified roles they are so regularly expected to play on stage in that particular genre. There are no distracting displays here.
This ability to be genuine is not surprising with this low-key band, though, as they are not about surface level of life. Instead, the music provokes profound speculations and nuanced states of consciousness. It was Anton’s articulate brilliance in interviews that first locked me into their work.
When Maria sings, I stop moving completely. Until she’s done. Only utter stillness will allow the cilia in my ears to vibrate with the kind of desperate attention they require when encountering my favorite female vocalist. I wasn’t expecting that. No one told me. But I’m telling you, Stoner Doom fans. You must listen to this band that has something to say, and you must prepare yourself for Maria’s one of a kind voice. Words don’t do it justice. It’s the low beneath low. Her throat allows everything through, not just part of the frequency of life. All of it. The inflections indicate so much nobility in the depths of life that surely no one could take living for granted again.

First, I’d like to ask about that slow groove that’s consistent through the songs. I’m curious how the different band members feel that movement within their bodies. As a loop circulating through the body, a sway side-to-side (like bumping over train tracks underneath), a sleepwalking headbang, a standing spiral? Perhaps the way they feel the groove move through their bodies changes song to song.
Maria: We’ve never rehearsed our on-stage choreography or something like that. It comes naturally from our perception of the music. I can say, I like the heavy, powerful low-tune sound of traditional Doom. I like the sound of our guitars, amplified and enhanced with stage gear, going through bodies of musicians and audience. I think the sound should fill all the possible space it can, changing it in its special way.
Anton: For our band it’s very individual, some of us stay more or less still, others move to the music, whichever is more comfortable. It’s an interesting question because movement to music and dance is a very early part of human culture in a way it’s ritualistic. Although we never rehearsed stage movement it’s interesting to see the connection with the audience in that light. It’s great when some people dance to our music and move to it.
Anna: Generally, when I’m playing on stage or rehearsing at the studio, I feel some kind of special energy coming through my body. Especially when I sing. I begin to feel very inspired and optimistic about everything around me. I don’t really rehearse my on-stage choreography; I just have some clear ideas about what I have to do on some of our songs. So most of the time I just improvise my on-stage movements. Also I enjoy having that special connection with the audience, it’s an unforgettable experience, especially, when you’re playing on stage and see the people dancing to your songs and even starting to sing any of your songs that you’re playing. That’s when the magic happens for me.
Olga: I felt this only after I became part of the band – the feeling of the unified space with a group of people. When I listen to our music I can almost see how our melodies combine with each other, winding and supporting each other. Seems like their directions and weight are not less material than stage equipment. And our bodies move with the space movement. In this context I like “The Path” most of all – it resonated with me first and still makes me sway to its rhythm emerging in my subconscious in everyday life. I like both versions of it – with Denis and with Anna on vocals, which feel very different.

I love that about the unified space and the melodies themselves playing a tangible role within it. And the rhythm arising from the subconscious. And Anna feels energy coming through her – I feel a tangible effect from that! What scales are you most fond of? Is that part of the particular Folk element of your Doom that creates that tonality? Are there any folk melodies that influence any of the songs? In what ways does your location influence you?
Maria: I’m fond of northern folk, especially Finno-Ugric music, also I try to look at our music from different dimensions, adding Eastern tonality (Arabic, Turkish, Jewish music), as well as blues riffs, chromatic and classical minor scales, influences from Southern and Eastern European folk tradition… Our “Nortern Summer” is a reminiscence to native Karelian folk tunes, and “Mothir” is our adaptation of Icelandic folk song.
Anton: The idea of our project was to express through the language of Traditional Doom some of our folk influences. Yet we are not a folk band in a traditional sense of the word; we try to incorporate those melodies a bit more delicately, but they are very important.
As for the location it has a great influence on us from the vast forests to the existential gloomy culture and literature, we are shaped by this as musicians. As for Finnish folk it is an important part of our culture which sometimes flies under the radar when people are talking about Russia. For instance, Russian poets of the XIXth century with their gloomy and even Gnostic outlook on existence are a big influence for the Russian language texts of our first album.
Anna: I feel inspired by nature. I like spending some time in the forest. In terms of music, I usually prefer songs in minor scales; I like songs that sound not so depressing, but emotional. For example, I like adding some French coldwave sound to our music, as well as some blues rock.
Olga: Here I agree with Anton. The country’s history defined the distinct visual component of our surroundings, inspired by the folklore ideas and concepts we faced from early childhood, it nurtured in our minds the tendency to reflect and the idea of complicated intricacy of life, even its wholeness in imperfection. Maria shapes those images in multilayered sincerity, bringing the ideas into reality.
Samhain by Train to Elsewhere
What is the composition and arranging like for these songs? Do they ever arise from improv jams? Is it mostly one person’s vision per tune? Do the words or riffs tend to come first? Are you most interested in getting across specific meaning through the lyrics or in something else, like creating a subtle mood that goes beyond words?
Maria: Most music comes from improvisations and jams. Sometimes it happens that I bring raw material – several riffs and text – and we try to combine them into a song and repeat it till it seems ready. Also, we have some texts and some jam records that could fit together – so, why not make a song out of them. The needed mood appears when the song is almost ready and we try to play it slower or heavier or faster, add keyboards and guitar solo elements – that comes out of practice.
Anton: My personal contribution is mostly the bass parts in terms of composition, that’s all I do. But sometimes I can advise the band to play slower and heavier, as well as bring in some references from the underground doom scene. Also, I write some of the English-language lyrics like our title track from the debut album Samhain, which has been influenced by folk horror films like The Wickerman (1973) and British classical poetry.
Olga: Most of all I value the moment when the composition is almost finished, when the main direction is defined, but the result can be changed in unexpected ways with new fragments. Then the experiments begin, making us closer to realization of the plot, and I like the way each of us adds his sound to the final feel of the composition and atmosphere.

I like that you call it a plot. Stories really do arise from the subtle nuances within the music itself, whether there are lyrics or not. What emotional process would you hope listeners go through with these paganism-referencing songs? Is there something subconscious about the ancient primal archetypes that can serve people even if they don’t think about those mythologies in their ordinary lives?
Maria: Every song has its own references, atmosphere and path to lead the listener through. Of course, when the full song structure appears in your head, it’s a powerful inspirational impulse.
Anton: I would like to add that myths are powerful archetypes in our subconscious. We like to work with that because the modern world is not concerned with authentic myth and we want to help the listeners experience them. Of course, the interpretation of the myth is psychologically different for every individual but there are important patterns.
For example, facing death and mortality has been approached differently in different cultures. And aesthetically the pagan myth is very poetic and it fascinates me. The main themes of the lyrics are the recognition of one's mortality and different aspects of death -- on "The Path," mystical dark field of pre-Christian pagan tradition in "Samhain" and "Mothir," Gnosticism in "Ashes," omens and symbolism in "Silent Guard," romanticism in "Where you live," and pagan beauty of nature in "Northern Summer." The title track "Samhain" was inspired by a cult folk horror film The Wicker Man (1973) while also referencing the original pagan roots of Halloween -- Samhain.
Olga: The concept of mythology and paganism is the great mirror for the human soul, referring to times, when there were fewer concrete facts and the whole world consisted of trembling windings of human fears and desires.

“Trembling winding of human fears and desires.” I love that. Back before we could fact check everything in a search engine, reality was more amorphous, full of outrageous possibilities, eccentric cutting-edge experiments. Would you like to tell us about Sigil of Time? Is there a mentally different approach to folk music in that one? Some of you are able to participate in that band. Does it feel like a new compartment of the self opening up, like a new realm of a room that you can inhabit? How is that room decorated differently than the room in which Train to Elsewhere sleeps and dreams?
Maria: First material was recorded about ten years ago as my solo project, then we collaborated with Anton for a rather long time – but never released it till spring 2020. In this project I can release my vision that cannot be expressed with a heavy band. Usually, I create meditative multi-instrumentalist soundscapes in a much more intuitive way; most of them are instrumentals or vocals that don't carry any lyrics. Often the recordings wait for some time to be reviewed and even corrected a bit before releasing. Anton records a bass line and manages different synthetic and noise parts. To talk about the room: it’s for chamber music and solitary thoughts.
Anton: Sigil of Time was mostly our experiments with post-industrial dark ambient and dark folk music as well as some field recordings. We didn’t plan to release it to the public but our label Kryrart Records encouraged us to share our music with the world. It’s more of an abstract stream of consciousness inspired by dreams and visions but some lyrics and melodies which ended up in Train to Elsewhere were first composed for Sigil of Time so the two are interconnected.

What were the mechanical methods you used to get the post-industrial effects? That’s intriguing: I’d be curious to hear about any specific dream or vision that inspired a song.
Maria: Sigil of Time is mostly based on acoustic instruments (especially guitars), as we could mention earlier. We use it for recording guitar pedals and post-production with different kinds of distortion and delay, octavers and reversed echoes, also adding such things as different samples, raw analog synthesizer sound… In different periods of time Sigil had a tendency to explore various sources, while anthologies unite tracks from earlier times.
Usually, a song starts from the feeling of total clarity, when the idea of lyrics meets the image of musical sketch, giving a whole plan of what to do. It changes several times while recording, usually each part is improvisation, keeping only several repeating moments. Mixing inserts its corrections, and when the song is almost ready, I leave it for several days, returning to it later with minimal changes.
Anton: As for Train to Elsewhere we use techniques common for recording traditional doom metal. Maybe one thing that sets us apart is that we use the sounds of the amps and their built-in distortion power rather than custom distortion pedals for pedal boards. We want to capture a primal raw sound of early rock and metal. About dreams – before writing the lyrics to Samhain I saw a dream in which I was in a vast endless autumn forest as far as I could see. The forest seemed very old, even ancient; later the dream inspired me to write the lyrics to Samhain.

Hey homies, I’m here ‘cause I was tagged again
This time by my dear, darling friend, Jojo @themoonoversoho! I hope you’re doing well! 
List which 5 10 TV shows make you feel better then tag 10 other blogs (this isn't in order or anything)
Now, you guys know that it’s extremely hard for me to whittle down ANY of my favorite things, and that was the case with this meme. Instead of 5, I chose 10 of my favorite TV shows that make me feel better, no matter what my mood is. 
1. Hey Arnold! - This show was probably my favorite when I was a kid. Everything about it was so iconic, from the surprisingly adult-themed episode plots, crazy characters with a huge range of appearances and personalities, and even some of the creepiest ghost stories I’ve ever seen. Not to mention, this show is also hilarious af. The nostalgia hits me hard when I watch this show, but in a good way. I just love it. 
2. Avatar The Last Airbender - The 90′s/00′s were The Golden Age of children’s movies and TV shows, and I’m so glad I was a part of it. Because along with Hey Arnold, Avatar was probably the best show to come out of that era. This show (there really is no other word for it) is beautiful. Again, a HUGE range of characters and personalities as well as crazy story lines. You’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and sometimes the animation even makes your mouth drop in awe. And of course, love and happiness win the day. 
3. Stranger Things - There’s nothing I love more than spooks, conspiracies, and just overall wacky happenings in Small Town America (keep it classy, Indiana). Even though this show can get VERY dark and creepy (and, in the third season, outright disgusting), The Party is what really makes this show so dear to me. They’re not perfect, but God damn do they love and care for each other. I’m a cheesy mofo who lives for friendship and love, with an epic 80′s soundtrack to top it off. 
4. Derry Girls - How could you resist a bunch of misfit/just your average weird teenagers doing and saying stupid shit? Despite the fact that this show takes place in 1990′s Northern Ireland, you can’t help but see glimmers of yourself or your friends in this group of dorks. It really shows that aspects of Teenagerdom are universal, no matter where you are in the world. There’s something comforting in that. Also, again, the soundtrack to this show is popping. 
5. Law and Order franchise - THE MOST BINGE-ABLE SHOW AND FRANCHISE EVER!!! I have memories of being in high school and community college where during weekends, holiday breaks, and summer vacations, I would waste entire afternoons watching either Criminal Intent or Special Victims Unit (ah, the days before you could sign up for Netflix on your TV). My Sherlock Holmes/Poirot loving ass had already discovered that stories of murders and crime were surprisingly interesting, and Law and Order filled that need. You’ll end up bingeing it because of how well-written most of the episodes are; they suck you in right away, and do it in such a way that you feel compelled to stay until the end. 
6. N.C.I.S - To this day, I am forever grateful to USA Network for giving me so many amazing TV shows to binge when I was bored at home (like Psych, Monk, and White Collar), but N.C.I.S. really took the cake. Although way more light-hearted and funny than Law and Order, N.C.I.S. stands for Naval Crime Investigative Service, and follows a very tight-knit group of agents solving crimes in the navy during the height of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. It’s got EVERYTHING early and mid-00′s, particularly the amazing Goth representation in the form of Abby. Even though there have been lots of spin-offs of this show, the original version of it will always be my preferred choice. And like most of my feel-good shows, N.C.I.S evokes a lot of good nostalgia for me. 
7. Turn: Washington’s Spies - As you can see, a lot of my favorite shows usualy center around 3 things: sci-fi/fantasy, crime detection, or historical time periods. This show FIRMLY falls into the historical category, as it centers around a spy ring that operates in the New York region during the American Revolution. Almost every person in the cast was a real person, from the very famous to the very ordinary and obscure, and that’s one of the main reasons I love the show. But my absolute favorite part of this show is the whole premise of it; no one had ever decided to show the Revolutionary War through the eyes of spies before, and it reawakened my love for the 18th century. 
8. Downton Abbey - Yet another historical show, this time based in early 20th century Yorkshire. It tells the story of one noble family and the servants who live in the Big House of Downton, and all the trials, tribulations, and triumphs they experience through the years. There’s something....I don’t know, cathartic and fun about immersing yourself into someone else’s family or friend drama, even if they don’t really exist. The writing in this show can seesaw from good to bad, but it’s the characters themselves that make you stay till the end. At its core, it’s a very beautiful, sweet show. 
9. The Office (American version) - Besides Law and Order, The Office takes second place as the The Most Binge-able Show of All Time. The storyline of the show is extremely simple: a bunch of employees working for a paper company in Scranton, Pennsylvania. I could probably say this about a lot of the TV shows on my list, but The Office really feels like you’re among old and dearly loved friends. The absolute bullshit these people put up with; the stupid, inane things they say and do; the friendships that are formed and even the romances that occur; all of it is worth it. It’s a gem of a show, and my go-to for a real, true belly-laugh. Even after all these years, the jokes are still funny as hell. 
10. Parks and Recreation - I spoke too soon. I think this show is tied with The Office for Most Binge-able Show of All Time. Now, don’t be fooled by the lackluster 1st season; once you get past season one, the show is just MAGNIFICENT. Like many of my favorite shows, the cast is filled with people of different races, experiences, and personalities, and chronicles the hilarious and ridiculous shit they get into at the local recreation department in--yet again--small town Indiana. THE JOKES. THE MEMES. So many things came out of this show influenced the Internet so much, that the Internet would’ve been way more boring without Parks and Rec. Like The Office, you come to see the characters almost like real people, and even regard them as dear friends. And also like The Office, the jokes and the memes are still really freaking funny.

“I heard that their army isn’t that powerful, and their defenses over here,” Bjorn pointed at the map, as you paced in the room with Ragnar in your arms, softly patting his back while he hiccupped, “My friend from there says there’s a secret entrance there.”
“How many men would we need?”
“Perhaps one hundred?” Bjorn said, “One hundred and fifty?”
“I thought you said this was a small one, Bjorn.”
“The country itself is small.” Bjorn said, “You know it as much as I do that we shouldn’t underestimate anyone, Hvitserk.”
“Which means it can take longer than expected.” Hvitserk said, and Bjorn pulled his brows together,
“What? Are you suddenly uncomfortable with the idea of leaving home for long?”
Ivar grinned, looking between them and you shot him a look.
“I didn’t say that.”
“Yes he is.” Ivar said, “It feels difficult for him, does it not Hvitserk?”
“Ivar…”
“We all need to make some compromises brother.”
“Bjorn, let him be,” Bree said as Hvitserk looked almost sulky, “He does not want to be away from Gala and leave her here, it is understandable.”
“I missed the birth of my child for a raid,” Ivar raised his hand, “In case anybody forgot about that. Because Y/N doesn’t let me forget.”
“I never said you should use that against Hvitserk.” You pointed out and Hvitserk nodded,
“Also, you made the way back here a torture for us and the whole crew. That’s hardly making a sacrifice.”
Ivar made a face, “I missed the birth of my son, Hvitserk!”
“I still think he has a point,” Bree said airily, and you knew that tone way too well by now, “I mean Hvitserk will be away on a raid, who knows what could happen here?”
Hvitserk blinked a couple of times, “What could happen here?” he repeated and Bree shrugged,
“Well, Gala is very beautiful and unmarried,” she said, making you purse your lips and bury your nose into Ragnar’s hair to keep them from seeing your smile, “Although your feelings are sincere, she’s a free woman. She may find out that she wants to get married to someone while you’re away.”
You really liked watching Bree play her mind games, to be honest. It was almost like a fisherman’s work, patient, attentive, and just sure when to pull back the hook.
“She wouldn’t get married while I’m away,” Hvitserk’s voice sounded almost doubtful of himself and Bree shook her head,
“Of course not,” she said, “I’m just saying anything could happen if she doubted your intentions, while you’re away on a raid. So you’re absolutely right with having doubts about this raid, Hvitserk.”
She might as well have yelled at him to ask Gala to marry him, but none of the men in the room had any more idea about what she was playing at than Ragnar who was silently dozing off in your arms.
“I… Excuse me,” Hvitserk pushed his seat back and left the room, making Bjorn shake his head slightly.
“Great.”
“I still think we need to wait for Ubbe and Torvi to come back.” You said, “Do you think Hvitserk would curse my whole existence if I called for Gala right now?”
“I would say so.”
“I will just put Ragnar into his crib and come back,” you said, and Bree followed you out of the room as you made your way to Ragnar’s room the guards stepping aside for you.
“He’s adorable, is he not?” Bree asked fondly and you smiled wide, fixing Ragnar’s hair as he sucked on his thumb,
“He is.” You whispered, “Sometimes I forget we do all this for him. And it scares me.”
“What scares you?”
“We-“ you shook your head, heaving a deep sigh, “We’re creating this whole kingdom for him, aren’t we? Ivar and I, we’re making sure that he will have more than any prince, he will have the whole world.”
“I know that. It will be your legacy.”
“But don’t you think he’s too….little?”
“It’s not as if he will start ruling now, my sweet.”
“I know that,” you muttered, “It’s just that, he- he will constantly be in this power struggle, Bree. He’s not even a year old, and there’s already more raids, more lands, more gold, more everything, for his future.”
“That’s what you wanted, Y/N.” Bree reminded you, “From the beginning. He will conquer the world, remember?”
You nodded, “Does it sound familiar to you then?” you asked and a shadow crossed Bree’s eyes,
“You cannot be thinking that.”
“That’s what my family wanted of Edgard.” You told her, “Also what they wanted of me. It was all about power.”
“It’s different, and you know that.”
“Do I though?” you asked and Bree squeezed your arm,
“I’ll tell you one thing you didn’t have when you and Edgard were growing up. Something entirely different, something Ragnar has.”
You pulled your brows together, “What is that?”
“Parents like you and Ivar.” Bree smiled, and pulled you out of the room, “Trust me. You two could not be more different than your parents even if you tried.”
“I hope so.” You said and Bree cleared her throat,
“That being said, there is something we must talk of.”
That made you stop dead on your tracks, “What? What is it, what happened?”
“Nothing bad, I just wanted to…well, get your approval, seeing that you’re the queen.”
You gasped and covered your mouth with your hands, your heart beating like crazy with excitement, “You and Bjorn are getting married!”
“No!” Bree shook her head slightly, “No no no! Nothing like that, I’m just- I wish to join the next raid.”
You blinked dumbly and lowered your hands, “What?”
“If it’s not very soon, that is.”
“A raid? You- you will go on a raid?”
“With Bjorn, yes. He has been teaching me the ways of fighting, in battle.”
“On an actual raid?” You felt the need to repeat, and she nodded,
“Yes.”
“Oh my God, it’s the Bjorn influence isn’t it? All his lovers somehow turned into warriors, it is like a curse-“
“No!” Bree said, letting out a laugh, “I have just been thinking lately. Of how many things I have missed back home. I was raised properly, did everything that was expected of me, became Edgard’s mistress, but now to think of it, I don’t believe any of the things I’ve done until I decided to stay here was my choice. My own choice.”
“I’m glad it was.” You said softly, “But a raid, Bree….”
“I wish to be free, Y/N.” she cut you off, “I had everything except for freedom, and now I’m… I wish to be free. I wish to see the world beyond our home and here, I wish to see the deserts and great lakes and different animals. I wish to see everything.”
You blinked back the tears and pulled her into a tight hug, nodding slowly,
“Promise me you will not go until you know how to fight.” You sniffled, “Promise me you will not be harmed, and that you will come back.”
“When have I ever put myself in danger just for the sake of it, Y/N?” Bree muttered, “I will make sure I can survive before I fight, I always do, remember?”
You took a shaky breath and pulled back to smile at her,
“By the Gods, it will be so boring without you here.” You tried to laugh, “I’m afraid you all like to leave me here alone way too much.”
Bree shook her head, “Temporarily, your majesty,” she joked, “After all, it is my duty to come back to the Queen of Kattegat, is it not?”
“It definitely is your duty.” You tried to smile, “In fact, it’s a direct order. You are not to get harmed in any battle.”
“You have my word.” Bree dropped a curtsy, then linked her arm through yours and you both started walking back to the map room.

Your body was floating in a pool of blood and no matter how much you tried not to sink into it, it was useless. Out of the corner of your eye, you could see the posters of your bed but no matter how much you tried to scream, you couldn’t. You raised your arms and suddenly, the room changed into a battlefield, accompanied by winged horses and many women riding into the field as falcons followed them-
You gasped and opened your eyes, your senses coming back to you, wrapping you in safety. Ivar moved beside you, and rolled onto his back but didn’t wake up when you remained motionless for a couple of seconds. The woods burning in the fireplace reached your ears and you took a deep breath before you raised your hands to rub at your eyes.
This happened way too many times. Every time Eitr was away from you, your sleep was full of nightmares and darkness.
You’re safe, you tried to convince yourself and calm your heartbeat down, Everything is fine, you’re safe.
You heaved a deep sigh, and left the bed as silently as you could, approaching the window to take a look outside.
“I will have none of that nonsense.” Your mother’s voice was like a whip and you kept your gaze on the ground, “Do you hear me? Ever again.”
“Yes mother.”
“Look at me,” she said and you bit on your lip, then looked up at her. “You’re lucky Edgard told me. Where was your nursemaid?!”
“She was talking with someone, mother.”
“And I suppose you thought that was permission for you to sneak into your father’s war council to listen to what they were saying?”
“Edgard is allowed to attend them.” You mumbled, your fingers gripping at the laces of your skirt, “I merely assumed- I was not  going to talk, I was just going to-“
“Edgard is the crown prince.” Your mother cut you off, “He needs to be in those meetings in order to learn the war business. It is very important for a ruler.”
“But I will rule as well.”
Your mother scoffed, “You will help your future husband to rule.”
“But-“
“You will not be involved in decisions in terms of war.”
“But I think if I was allowed to join in the meetings, I could be involved in such decisions.”
Your mother pinched the bridge of her nose, “These men have been in battlefield, they have fought the enemy.”
“I do not have to be in the battlefield to form a strategy.”
“You will not form a strategy!” your mother snapped, then regained her control, “You do not have time for this. Your dance tutor awaits.”
You were pulled out of your thoughts when a sudden noise startled both you and Ivar. Ivar grabbed his dagger from under his pillow and you stared at the window for a second, as Eitr hit the glass with her wings again, as if she was rabid.
“Eitr, what-?” you asked as you opened the window and she dived straight into the room, as a terrible feeling sunk into you.
“Something is wrong,” you whispered and as if on cue the yelling from the hall reached inside. Ivar put down the dagger and took his axe as you rushed to the door but before you could reach there, it was already open and Gala was breathing hard,
“My Queen!” she said as soon as Eitr flew over her shoulder into the hall, and you ran to her,
“What? What is it?”
“The- the prince.” She said through sobs, and you could swear your blood turned into ice, fear knocking the breath off you, “The prince has disappeared.”

it’s strange how the passage of time warps and bends around the shape of the people in your life, the silhouettes they carve from the liminal space of your soul — it’s like that thing about stars and how when you’re looking up at the night sky, you’re actually looking at stars that could be already be dead a hundred years ago, their fading requiem only just now reaching earth’s stratosphere, a thousand light years away. 
this is what it feels like to see vladimir standing in the door frame of his childhood bedroom looking like the ghost of fuck-ups past.  (  he has no lock now, which is mildly insulting and excruciatingly patronising; he’s an addict, not bloody suicidal, but to his family the distinction might as well be non-existent.  )  he looks different, and also like nothing has changed at all in a way that august can’t quite pinpoint. it’s as if he’s lost his ability to translate him; the myriad tiny, insignificant nuances and habits he used to obsessively decrypt with his very own rosetta stone, a whole stele for the vladimir yamatov script, forgotten like a dead language. or maybe he no longer cares to. he doesn’t know if that should make him feel nostalgic, or furious, or bittersweet. feeling particularly strongly about anything these days is a herculean task in and of itself. which, he supposes, was the original sin that instigated everything to begin with.
he thinks he can remember asking vladimir to come home.
he thinks he can almost remember begging, knees in the dirt and gravel scraping his flesh raw, over voicemail like a needy fling who had accidentally gone and done the thing you and every other idiot knows you’re not supposed to do, and fallen. 
he thinks he might have begged for absolution. 
but that could have also been the sixth line of blow cut with ketamine and procaine and only god and the devil knows what else  (  he’d been desperate, it was three a.m. in camden  )  and he’s composed text messages nay, goddamn fucking letters, ad nauseam, ad infinitum, like he’s on the receiving end of some dear john bullshit, and he’s never been sure which of them actually made it to the send button. he’s smashed, or lost, or misplaced, half a dozen phones, for all the futile effort to replace them. collateral damage in the dawning realisation that vladimir wasn’t replying because he was mercilessly leaving him on read, but because he wasn’t receiving them at all, and judging by his infrequent instagram updates, was doing absolutely fine / fuck him, happy / having the time of his fucking life on his primitive anti-tech detox.
for a moment, he entertains the fleeting, whimsical distraction that this could be yet another delusion. after all, he’s conjured vladimir enough times that this wouldn’t be unusual.  (  why, sometimes i’ve believed as many as six impossible things before breakfast.  )  he has imagined vladimir heartsick, wretchedly beside himself with guilt. he has painted him alabastrine, cold and immovable, patron saint raphael of the lost and the meek indifferent to august’s self-inflicted torment. he has envisioned him lit with madness, seized in catastrophic rage, gripping him by the jaw and rattling his bones till he might see reason. there were other imaginings, too, steeped in the unspeakable, tauntings of an uninhibited mind free to conceptualise the reality of its most ludicrous desire. in the worst dream, the most terrible, most fantastical one, vladimir comes home because of him. for him. it plays out like the final scene of a cult romantic comedy, or the odyssey, maybe, much-enduring odysseus returning home to penelope at last. two shadows, reaching through the hopeless, heavy dusk, their hands meeting as light spills in a flood, the sky pouring out the sun. and he would take his other-soul’s face in his hands and kiss him and say the words this lifetime’s vladimir would never say.
there is, of course, a singular difference in this one. this vladimir. the vladimir he filled his dreams with never looked at him like this. with this curious amalgamation of horror and — most tellingly so; am i not what you expected, vladimir? how did you imagine you would find me? beatific? flourishing? — disgust. 
august knows what he looks like. five shades too pale and ashen, like the vivacity has been drained right out of him. a layer of grease shines in his hair, the fade he alway maintains with meticulous care and precision grown out into his natural, unruly curls. he’s not quite skeletal, his frame was always too lean and muscular for that, but he seems perilously thin for his height. it shows in his face, he knows even though he’s been avoiding mirrors and isn’t allowed one anyway, because a) addicts use those to cut their coke, and b) suicidal ones might be inclined to break them, he knows because of the way his mum looks at him when she comes into his room to bring him his meals three times a day like a convict. it hurts him a little, more than the physical pain of looking at vladimir, of hearing his voice, that he sees him like this. he had not been informed in advance that vladimir would come calling. if he had, he would’ve — he doesn’t know what he would’ve done  (  attempted an escape, maybe; broken his twelve-day sobriety, maybe  )  but he might’ve. cleaned up a little. tried to look less like a shell of himself. augustus has always been vain, has always been a gilded, preening thing who took great pride in being pretty and well-loved for it. it pains him. not to be even that anymore. he is rusted. tarnished.
if he had known, maybe he would have told vladimir not to come. 
now that he is here, he is split in two, cleaved in half by the urge to tell him to go and the more pressing compulsion to make him stay to never go never leave again never go anywhere that is out of his sight out of his life out of him. 
his ambivalence makes him poor company and a poorer conversationalist. not that this is entirely his fault — what are they supposed to do? chat about the weather and trade perfunctory banter just to fill the air? he’d rather do a line right here in front of vladimir. 
your hair is longer, august had said. the only thing other than what are you doing here, which had come out of his mouth, part-shock and part-petulance, when his mother had opened the door and presented vladimir like some screwed-up surprise gift for reaching a whopping week and a half of not being a fucking disappointment to everyone around him. so, now he can disappoint the person that matters most fundamentally, tortuously, to him in the world, too. how delightful.
vladimir’s hair being longer is the only thing he can think to say that doesn’t make him want to give in to the pulverising sensation in his head, in his bones, in his chest, screaming for a deus ex machina reprieve. if this is what they have come to — the two of them, who had spent their entire lives talking about nothing and everything till they could anticipate exactly what the other’s response would be — augustus is glad he didn’t come home sooner. he looks handsome, which feels like another slight against august’s pride. rugged and sun-soaked like a male model cum travel influencer, but one that actually does something meaningful with his life. time, and sunlight, and the kind of hard labour that builds muscle definition and character, has certainly been kinder to him than it has been to august. he doesn’t say you look good because that would sound like he has any remotely positive feelings towards this interaction, and, indeed, the cause of vladimir’s looking like a golden, newly-anointed demi-god. it seems they have traded places. or maybe vladimir is exactly who he was always supposed to be. and august is, too.
august supposes it’s the silence, and the reality that vladimir cannot abide it either, that prompts him to say what he does.
what happened?
he doesn’t say anything for a long moment, he drifts in the absence of an answer because he is allowed to, because he is technically, partially an invalid now, and people who are sick are allowed to be not altogether there. 
(  sick. malaised. he likes this word for it. he likes that there is a scientific explanation for what he is. a brain disease. a diagnosable mental illness. see, vladimir, he almost wants to say, a little deranged part of him finally gleeful at not having a pedestal to stand on anymore, you aren’t special. i’m fucked up now, too.  )
well, vladimir. it’s a very long story that i don’t care to repeat as i’ve recounted the tales to you so many times through missives you were never inclined to respond to. there was angel, and bennie, there was emmy, and good old molly. ah, and charlie, my favourite of the lot. ours was a whirldwind love affair. but it turns out i loved him more than he loved me. seems like i have a nasty little habit of doing that. it’s one i haven’t learned to kick yet.
god — august...
it’s the look of wrenching disgust, again. the thing that twists and snakes across vladimir’s face and awakes something snarling and animal shackled to august’s throat, something that slams into him chest-first and doesn’t stop until it’s gone right through him, left him raw, all bloodied edge and teeth.
what happened? what happened? what’s the point of asking now when it’s all been said and done. how long am i supposed to carry this black mark? until everyone around me deigns to let me bury it? i’m not a fucking child.
it’s not an explanation, which is what vladimir is after. he would know, however, if he had bothered to answer august any of those times. he would know, he would have known, if he hadn’t left august in their bed that morning at the warwickshire summer palace and run from everything they’d ever touched. they’d had the world world in their hands in that bed, in that room, in that place of stolen summer outside of time, outside of life itself. they could have had — everything. everything august had to give. and he gave it, and vladimir looked him in the eye and decided it was not for him.
you made a mistake. everybody makes them. even me. i’ve made many. it’s only fair that you made one.
he feels each word grate right through him, each syllable catching on his skin like little knives, the thin strand keeping him tethered to the present grinding down into dust and bone. he doesn’t blame vladimir for what happened to him. he blames him for leaving. but it’s a mistake that vladimir won’t — can’t acknowledge because to do that, he would have to admit to the thing he doesn’t want to say, or can’t say, and august can’t make him say it. that’s what made him do it, the first night at that grimy, filthy club in the berlin underground. that’s what made him want to trade his soul for just a night of rapture so euphoric he wouldn’t have to remember how fucking miserable it was to be unloved by the one person you thought you were meant for. but then, it’s never just one night is it? it couldn’t have been. you don’t get over something like that with one goddamn night.
(  if august were honest, and his heart not surrendered, he would say it was this, too: that vladimir could walk away from them, has always been able to walk away, and think nothing of it. him. that vladimir had found purpose and higher meaning in something other than themselves and the stupid, foolish, boyish dreams they used to talk about like they might someday happen. that august had disappointed him somehow by, what, not being enough? not living up to the unearned greatness that vladimir saw in him and was supposedly the only person in the world who could? that vladimir would forge a path for himself in life that diverged from august and not feel his soul rending itself in half to be half a world away from him, and survive it. — it was enough to ruin him then, it still ruins him now.  )
“if you’ve come all this way just to lecture to me, you can sod the fuck off back to phuket or hanoi or fucking antarctica if that’s what you want. maybe there’s some disease-riddled penguins out there that you can save to sate your saviour complex. saint francis of assisi. a non-shitty mother teresa. malala.”
he’s exhausted before the first word leaves his mouth, strung out just with the effort of starting, but he can’t stop them now any more than he can stop the hunger and thirst clawing at his head howling for a drop of blood, a pound of flesh, any part of him that it can cannibalise in retribution for starving. it’s easier to be cruel than to be wounded, better to be the conqueror than the fallen — but right now it just feels like he is going through his twelfth or two hundredth day of withdrawal and the boy he loves has come back but not the way august wanted and not the way he wants to be wanted. it hurts just to look at him, it hurts to have him looking back. every part of his body aches with dependence, codependence. they’re the definition of it. see what happens to me when you are not in my life?
alexander lay on hephaestion’s bed for three days. but you are not him. you are just a spoiled, arrogant, silver-spooned nothing who will never amount to greatness, glory, or anything at all. it is no wonder he would not have you.
his rage breaks, like sea foam crashing against cliffs; it rends and shatters down the fault line mapped throughout his body, the one that winds from his throat to his sternum, down to his thighs and feet, and aches forever mostly at his heel. helpless to the unbidden trembling of his hands as he curls them around the sheets of his bed, unmoored. he looks small and disarmed, more lost than he’s ever been with vladimir by his side. it doesn’t mean the same thing anymore, does it? not if he cannot make vladimir stay. whatever they had between them — is it damaged, now. they could rebuild it, but the foundations would still bear the memory of where the cracks lie. he would still remember this look on vladimir’s face.
he has looked at him a thousand times, and there has always been an echo reverberating between them. the wavelength of an elegy he knows the words to like they are writ upon heartbeat, upon headstone. there have been other faces, but vladimir’s eyes have always been the same. fathomless as distant stars in an entire universe light years away and yet close enough to touch if he dared to. if it is fate, or circumstance, or a reiteration of the immortality that stands between them and their freedom, then he already knows how this ends. vladimir knows it, too. it doesn’t make him want it any less. it doesn’t make him suffer for it any less. this ache he has spent an eternity chasing after, this feeling of being so incandescently alive that even death cannot keep them apart, this is what vladimir ran from. augustus cannot blame him. if he was not the one who always outlived him, he’d do the same.
“is this why you came back? because you think you can save me, too?”

Yes! Pretty Cure 5 Episodes 25-49 + Movie

So... this happened.
This second half of Yes! 5 was... boring.
Yeah, it had its moments, but overall? It was pretty lackluster. And, I know Yes isn't the most eventful season, as I mentioned on the first post, this is a character-focused show so the plot won't move much until it needs to, proof of that is the Pinky collecting thing that is never on the front seat and when we see it they are in the final 4 episodes and there's only one missing for them to complete the collection. The thing is that the characters part was pretty... problematic?
I don't know if it's because they knew a second season would be coming that they decided to go very light in character development in order to focus on something else, but this second half lacked a lot in this department. Again, they had great moments, Milk, Karen, and Rin probably got the best development out of the cast, but when we look at everything together we see that there were still things that lacked quite a bit.

Another thing that was weird was the timing for the villains, the pacing in which a new villain would come and an old one would go was very weird, there were villains we spent more time with than we should and there were villains that we didn't get enough time to leave an impression and you can say that the precure stuff is actually the less important part of Yes so this isn't that big of a deal, but it's still an element that is present so I think it's okay for me to complain about it. Also, I kinda dislike how they ended the villains, not the part of sealing Despariah and such, but they were going for a "let's talk our way out of this" approach and they were building up for a good moment but they brought Kawarino back for that moment and it kinda ruined it.
But the thing I hated the most, and that made it almost unbearable for me to watch in this second half, was the whole romance thing. Pick everything I said about it in the first post, multiply that for 10, and that's pretty much how I felt about it in this second half. On the first portion it was bad, but in the second half this gets horrible, they shove you the romance thing in the face in whatever opportunity they have and it's just hideous. They made an entire episode where the conflict was Nozomi being jealous of Coco. They had an episode about marriage and each girl fantasized about their wedding and in Nozomi's fantasy Coco was the freaking groom. Heck, they even made something romantic out of a ghost. This was gross, this is definitely the worst aspect of Yes, and because it was so present in this second half I've lost a lot of my interest for this season.

But not everything was worse, in comparison with the first half, the animation has gotten a lot better, there are still ugly drawings and clunky animation, but they improved a lot. Also, the action got better, the attack spam is still there, but they had more fights, they were more creative which made things more fun. Heck, they made Aqua joust with one of the villains in one episode and that was freaking cool. Also, I like that despite having a group attack they only use it to defeat the generals so it feels like something that is very powerful and special and I think this is something we've been missing in precure lately. So, as I said, not everything was worse.

I think that's all I have for general comments, let's jump down to the characters.
It was hard to follow Nozomi around, everything related to her character ended up being about Coco. She was there for her friends and everything, but still, every decision her character made was centered around Coco, even when she finally chose a dream to pursue, that dream was because of Coco, and it's sad that a character with so much potential was reduced to just a planet orbiting around this freaking mascot.
Rin was a bit complicated, I think they've picked the "precure of passion" thing a little too literal and almost all Rin focused episodes had a romantic thing involved. They never pair her with anyone, which is great, but is kinda sad her whole thing was just that, we didn't get to see her interact with her family, we didn't get to see her playing futsal, the bare development we got for her was while she was with Karen as they started to tighten their bond inside their friendly rivalry, which was awesome, don't get me wrong, but I wish she had gotten more. But I like that she decided to be an accessory/jewelry designer as her dream because it wasn't the most obvious path for her, or for a red cure for that matter.

Poor Urara got a bit faded, I can't remember much of what she has done in this latter half. She remains great and all, and she had a very sweet bonding episode with Komachi near the end, but other than that she didn't do much other than just tag along for most of these episodes. And that's pretty sad, in the first half she was my favorite character but after this part where her light was a bit dimmed I'm afraid she may have lost the position.
Komachi had a similar situation as Nozomi, a lot of what she has done had Nuts influence on it, but I think it worked better with her because her entire goal wasn't to get together with Nuts, it was more like he was always hanging around her rather than she pursuing her. It's still an awful relationship because it's an adult and a kid, and Nuts freaking sucks as a human, but it didn't offend me as much. Also, Komachi got to do more stuff that didn't necessarily have to be involved with Nuts, we got to see more of her friendship with Karen, she grown closer to Urara and now wants to write a play/script/story that she can act, and she got great interactions with Rin because the whole telling scary stories thing. So I think her deal was more balanced.

The best of this second half, at least to me, was Karen. She was freaking awesome, I like that they paired her with Milk, it seemed like a relationship that shouldn't work because I didn't see how they could bond, but it was great, and I like that was something that was escalating slowly and it reached its peak in the episode where Milk gets sick and Karen wants to take care of her. Karen and Rin were also great, as I mentioned. I wasn't really into their rivalry in the first half but they got to work it very well here in this portion of the series, it evolved from just a dumb thing to an "I have a strong personality, just like you, and I have this vision of world about something that I won't let go of it, but I respect you and I know how to hear you and comprehend you points", it's a simple but complex thing that worked very well and that I'm glad they went with this route for these two.
Milk was also a tricky character, she was unbearable whenever she interacted with Nozomi (though she had a few points some times), she was in the mix of fun and obnoxious whenever the thing was about Coco and Nuts, and she was absurdly cute when she and Karen tagged along, so her character was a bit of a roller-coaster. I think by now I like her because I understand she just wants to be useful to the people she likes and it's a feeling I can relate too, but I admit she has her problems and she can be a handful to deal with.

Coco and Nuts shouldn't exist, they don't have an arc, they don't have development, they don't have a purpose, they're there just to push this ridiculous romantic bullshit that we don't need. Heck, Masuko Mika did in a single episode more than these double-sided plushies did in 49 episodes and a movie, she grew, she developed, she was fun, we should've got more of her and less of them. Thinking about them makes me pissed, thinking about how they're basically two different persons in their fairies and human forms because they wanna hammer down the idea that they're attractive makes me want to jump in front of a truck. I freaking hate them. Sorry, not sorry.
I wanted to talk about the villains, but there's pretty much nothing to be said. Like, from Bunbees subordinates that remained, they were already doing extra hour at this point, Bunbee being relocated to a new section but with less power seemed like could be fun but they didn't do much with it, the new staff introduced could've been great, but they were around for such a short amount of time, I think Bloody had only 4? episode where he acted as the villain, that's less than Pissard and Karehan got and they were the level 1 bosses, it was pretty ridiculous. Kawarino was cool, I think he's very scary and very creepy, but they kinda ruined him when they gave him his monster form, that wasn't 50% as intimidating as "human" Kawarino was. And Despariah was a letdown, she seemed so powerful and menacing but then her wish was to be immortal because she wanted to be young forever? I know this could be their attempt to make an allegory to how beauty standards are very oppressive to women, but this was in 2007 and I don't know if they would do that so early on in the franchise.

I was going to wrap things up now, but I managed to watch the movie before the post went out even though I forgot to download it together with the episodes, so here are my thoughts in the movie.
The Mirror Kingdom's Miraculous Adventure!
This is going to be short, I promise. This movie was a mixed bag, I was entertained, but this could've been way better. The concept of the Dark Precure is great, and they look amazing, but I feel like they weren't used to their full potential, first because it takes quite sometime before the five of them attack, and also the fact they keep cutting the battles to show everyone else kinda weakens them because I couldn't really feel how menacing or how their psyche was. Shadow was pretty bland, and the movie fairies were also very whatever, but the plot was very decent if we ignore the miracle light portion. But the thing this movie does that I can't forgive them is that they give all cures a power-up but they don't fight in that form, they just perform their attack, and that was very anti-climatic, especially considering the action for this movie was quite good

Wrapping up, Yes! Pretty Cure 5 is a decent season, it tried to do something different and that's worthy of praise, sadly they took some dumb decisions about the things they wanted to work, It's fun and has good characters but the romance element ruins it a lot, It's probably my least favorite of the four seasons I've covered so far. Thankfully they have another season so they can pull a Max Heart and be incredible so I'm both hopeful and excited for starting GoGo in the next week. What are your thoughts about Yes! 5? Remeber When I Moved In You
AO3 link Thanks to @waywren For Beta and Squee The thing about Adam Young, on That day especially,  was that he was an eleven year old human boy, who knew everything.  But, for the most part, he knew everything the way an eleven year old human knows things.  Oh, he was a very bright human, definitely a wise one, but still, an eleven year old human boy.  He rather had to be, for it all to work out as it did.  So while he may have known, in the part of him that knew everything, that Angels weren’t at all like people, he also knew, in the part of him that was doing the driving, that Angels were basically people with wings.  So when his power was building Aziraphale’s new body, his mind had a bit of an influence about what went into a body.  Aziraphale likely would have taken better stock of himself, but there were Horsemen, and this surprisingly nice young anti-christ, and he just had other things on his mind.  When you are pretty sure you are about to die, you generally don’t take much time to consider if you’ve gotten your tie right.  
On the bus ride home Aziraphale’s mind was caught entirely in the last prophecy, and his body, left to its own devices, was enacting a slow motion collapse into the demon next to him.  He only became aware of this when Crowley moved his arm out from under him.  Their entwined hands had been so nice, but he guessed that was a bit much to ask for the whole way home.   “Oh dear, so sorry…” he began.  Crowley continued to brood out the window.
“You should be, my bloody arms gone to sleep.”  He sounded gruff but he wrapped the “sleepy” appendage around the angel and pulled him in against his side.  Aziraphale sighed and leaned in.   The ride to London passed then, in a churning mixture of dread, hope and a glimpse at a new kind of profound comfort.
Crowley opened the door to his flat and immediately sauntered in, leaving Aziraphale to close the door behind himself. It could have felt astonishingly rude, just leaving a guest to themselves without any invitation to come further, but the angel knew it was the opposite.  You don’t show a man around a place he already belongs in, and despite hardly ever having been there before, Aziraphale belonged in the flat, because it was Crowley’s and from this point on, they each belonged wherever the other was.  That there was nothing of him in it didn’t much signify, there was hardly anything of Crowley in it either, but there was Crowley himself, and that was all that mattered.  They were, indeed, their own side.  Heaven and Hell and them.  The Earth, he supposed.  That had been what it had been about, saving the earth, and all the humans, and all the wonderful complexity. And each other, if they were very very lucky.  
Crowley came back from the kitchen with two glasses and a rather small bottle. 
“I’ve got a Malivoire Shiraz I’ve been saving,” he wiggled the bottle “frozen on the vine and everything.”  It was a sweet gesture, though Aziraphale knew better than to say so just at the moment.  Crowley had never shared his sweet tooth, so the bottle could only have been acquired with him in mind.  He smiled softly.  “That sounds lovely.”  Crowley pulled out the slightly less ornate chair from the corner for Aziraphale before draping himself bonelessly across his ridiculous throne.  Which was just fine as that chair was facing away from the rather interesting statue with implications the angel was not quite ready to contemplate.  The bottle continued to pour for an unreasonable amount of time, given its tiny size, but it’s not as if either of them were worried about misused power at this point.  
“I just thought...,”  Aziraphale started, stopped, blinked, and began again, “I just thought, which one is Mr. Young’s real son, do you think?”  Crowley was staring at him, pupils almost round in the dim light.  It seemed to take the question a moment to percolate its way through the layer of wine and into his consciousness.
“Oh,  erm, our Warlock, I suppose.  Had a bit of the look to him.” “Ah, yes.  Then what of the Amearican diplomat’s son?”
Crowley thought about the fire.  He thought about the timing.  He thought about telling Aziraphale about those things.  Then he thought about Sister Mary Loquacious.
“Adopted out, I expect.  Records would have been lost in the fire,” he said, glad to have a plausible answer that he was willing to say aloud, and might even be true, for all he knew. 
“I expect so, yes,” the angel gave a relieved sigh.  “It’s amazing the Youngs never noticed their son had the wrong sort of face,” he mused.  Then he sat bolt upright and looked at Crowley, who was staring back at him with wide eyes.
“Do you think?” “She couldn’t mean!” “That cunning old witch,” Crowley breathed. 
“What good will it do to endure each other’s torments, though?” “Hastur wasn’t going on about torments when I escaped him,” Crowley replied.  “And he really could have done.They are kind of our thing after all, and he’s considered an artist.  Nah, he was much more direct, right on to the killing.  I imagine your lot are feeling about the same.”
“Yes, well, as you say, we don’t much go in for tormenting Upstairs.” Crowley thought about who it was that had tossed them all in their pit, and wanted to disagree, but didn’t see the point in bringing it up now.   “And what’s the only thing that can kill a demon?”  Crowley was beginning to get excited. 
“Holy items…   Oh Yes, I see!”  Aziraphael jumped up. Crowley held up a finger.
“Right.  Theory is all well and good, but in practice.  I mean how?  How do we switch?”
“Possession.” The angel responded instantly.  “Our corporeal vessels are basically bodies we are inhabiting, they aren’t really all that different.  We could make the same modifications to any body if we were sole inhabitant.”
“There’s a catch, though.  We are going to have to be convincing.  They’ve known us for as long as we’ve existed, more or less.  We have to convince them we’re who we appear to be.  Do it so well they don’t try to look past the surface.” “Darling,” Aziraphale, excited, drunk, and feeling very daring, patted the demon’s cheek.  “I hardly think anyone knows either of us half so well as we know each other by now.”
For a task so serious, Crowley laughed more in the next few hours than he had in the previous few centuries.  Almost as soon as they had worked out how to possess each other’s bodies, Aziraphale had fallen flat on his arse when he misjudged the length of his new stride.  Crowley laughed at him right up until he knocked over a vase turning around too close to a table, and forgetting that his own arse was several inches lower, and rather fuller than he was accustomed to.  Aziraphale also kept doing this thing with his, well Crowley’s, face.
“What on earth are you doing?  I absolutely do NOT go around looking like that!” “I’m trying to get your eyes to focus!  Everything is either blurry or glowing.”  
“Yeah, sorry that’s just what the world looks like with snake eyes.  The glowing is either the UV or infrared.”  Cowley held out the dark glasses he’d left on the table earlier.  “You’ll find these a great help, my dear boy.[^1]Specially enchanted.”  Aziraphale almost dropped the glasses trying to grab them, his face suddenly flaming.  Crowley cocked his head.  “Did I not get the voice right?  Lay it on too thick?”
“No, err, nahh,” the angel stammered a bit before falling into the looser cadence of  Crowley’s speech.  “Nahh, you had it. Took me by s’prise is all.  This what I always look like to you?  With the glowing?”
Crowley squirmed a bit, and found Aziraphale’s body much harder to squirm in.  “Well, yes, it has to do with the spectrums you see.  You are very warm, and white is very reflective in ultraviolet.  Put on the glasses, do, they’ll make everything right.”  Crowley found he was almost more uncomfortable having his cursed eyes seen through than seen.  From the outside they looked odd, but several angels had odd eyes, too.  From inside it was much clearer just how much of a mark of the animal they were, and much as he didn’t like Aziraphale thinking of them at all, and especially like that, he needed to be sure the angel understood what he’d be walkinging into.  “Remember that lots of them down there will be like that.  Have weird eyes, or other senses.  Never assume they can’t be watching, even if you can’t see them or feel them.”
“They will only see what we mean them to see,” Aziraphale declared, attempting to sashay around the room in Crowley’s distracting loose limbed fashion.  He felt the limbs of the corporation were, in fact, looser than he was accustomed to, but that still did not account for how very much Crowley tended to sway his ass. 
“Oh come off it, I do not shimmy my butt that much!” the demon protested.   “You most certainly do!” “I never did!” “You wiggle more that shape than as a snake!” Azirapale countered, before thinking that he might not want to admit, at quite this juncture, exactly how much of his attention he’d devoted to watching that particular wiggle. 
“You might see better, if you recall that my body does need to blink from time to time,” he deflected.  Crowley made exaggerated slow cat blinks back at him and folded his hands primly in his lap.  Aziraphale tried to duplicate one of Crowley’s many sneers in response, then tested a few others.  They all felt strange. 
“I have no idea what you are trying to do with my face angel, but I’m sure I don’t ever do that.  I think you are trying to do is this,” Crowley’s sneer looked very little like itself on Aziraphale’s face.
“I’ve been watching your face make that expression for 6,000 years, doing it with mine is hardly going to help.  It’s hard to tell what I’m doing from this side of the face!”
“Very well, my dear,” Crowley miracled up a pair of mirrors for them to test their faces with.  It was a bit hard to keep focus though, when Aziraphale kept making his face do such strange things.  He caught a glimpse of himself in the other mirror then, watching the angel’s japes and was struck by the thought that he, perhaps, had seen that particular look on this face when the proper occupant was in it.  Which was a thought full of possibilities so rich he found himself even more determined to survive.  
“Think I’ve got your number now,” Aziraphale crowed. “Maybe I should splash around a bit, see how many of them I can catch?”  The expression he gave should have been ridiculous.  A not-quite-a-smile that turned sinister somewhere around the eyes.  It should have been impossible to make something so cute and rabbit-like threatening.  It was absolutely terrifying.
“Yes well,” Crowley adjusted his cuffs.[^2]
 “Let’s not go too far, hmm?  We want them scared into rationality, not out of it.”  He thought he really was getting the hang of the beatific smile.
If faces had been a round of silly buggers, walking for more than a few steps was a combination of hilarious and horrifying that Crowley, for one, was not eager to repeat.  They had both fallen flat more than a few times due to floors that were either too close or too far away.  Feet were Entirely the Wrong Sizes.  Aziraphale persisted in swinging his hips around in a fashion that the demon felt was well into parody.[^3]
 The attempt at stairs would have taken years off Crowley’s life, if he’d had a definite lifespan.  Aziraphale came down too hard on the first step, misjudging his leg, and Crowley missed his grab at him, because his arm had about 2 less inches than he expected.  A quick miracle was all that saved him from real injury.  The Angel shouting “Oh Fuck” on the way down was a further distraction.  
“Didn’t know you used profanity like that, Angel” Crowley jibed to cover his reaction at watching Aziraphale take any kind of fall.
“There is nothing profane about the act of love in the right context, my dear,” Aziraphale  tried to project cool, but had been shocked into his own speech patterns, which could get them both killed if he didn’t watch it. Crowley’s mind was eating its own tail stuck on the implications he might draw from the casual yet firm conviction in the angel’s tone on that matter.
“Then why use it as a curse, my dear,” he found his mouth said with very little input from the higher brain functions.
“Well, ‘s just what you say, ‘innit,” Aziraphale forced himself back into Crowley’s speech patterns.  
They retreated back to flat surfaces for a bit longer after that.  A few plants and objects d’art paid the price of Aziraphale trying to teach the gavotte as an exercise in limb usage.  They didn’t even make it to the kissing part, which was both a relief and a vexation.
Still, by the time false dawn was pearling the sky, they were as good a pair of duplicates as they could make themselves, and that was very good indeed.  Aziraphale looked at the large clear puddle that still marked a corner of the flat Crowley had been avoiding.  “Right.  One last test then, and we’ll know this rubbish will actually work.”  He summoned up a towel and bucket and headed over. 
“Do start with the left hand, darling, I’m rather partial to the right,” Crowley instructed, trying to sound flippant, but not quite hitting the mark.  Aziraphale repeated to himself that the corporations had no inherent connections to the beings who habitually wore them.  What mattered was that he was an angel, and holy water was his to hold and use.  It would not harm this body so long as he was its sole occupant.  He reached out, left hand first though that was surely unnecessary, and began to use the towel to clean up the mess that looked like pure clear water, and had once been a demon.  It felt no different than Holy Water ever did, and he turned to show Crowley his undamaged hand.  “Right as rain,” he said.  “Let’s go give them heaven.”

[^1]: It had not occurred to Aziraphale that he used that particular endearment with Crowley often enough for Crowley to have picked it up that much, and he was suddenly VERY glad Crowley, having slept through the Victorian era, didn’t know the full connotations of the phrase, or perhaps very not glad.  It was honestly rather confusing.

[^3]: In fact, the hip swinging was barely into the believable range.  It was difficult, even in Crowley’s skin, to lead with his hips quite like that, though the indecent tightness of the trousers helped.  It was hard not to wiggle just to try to take a step.

I rewatched Eternal Diva and this time I took notes as I went through
Dive under the cut if you dare to experience my mad in-the-moment ramblings (warning for spoilers for pretty much the entire prequel trilogy)
-          Don Paolo’s voice sounds like what Papyrus’s voice probably should
-          Winter Layton is precious in that giant coat
-          Janice is so pretty omg an angel
-          Layton geeking out over the Detrogan is goddamn adorable
-          I love how everything is greyed out in Janice’s flashback
-          Suuuuuuuuper subtle indication that maybe “Janice” seeing how young this little girl was is what prompted her to find a way to put an end to this whole thing
-          Whether it’s a moped or the Laytonmobile, Emmy drives like crazy XD
-          Bitch you ain’t on Top Gear
-          God her big sister relationship with Luke is adorable tho
-          Aaaaaaaaaaaah Layton smiling at their banter dad’s so happy for his son
-          They did such a good job reusing the game’s music for this movie
-          The opera house looks so cool but so precarious – my first thought upon seeing it was “when is this thing going to sink”
-          I MEAN IT’S ON A CLIFF
-          Janice’s voice is so pretty TToTT
-          I like that they kept the Japanese vocals for her singing
-          SONG OF THE SEA-SHADOWING
-          I hate that Layton and Luke were the ONLY people to honestly applaud the performance. Everyone else is a DICK
-          First time I saw this dude, I thought “that’s a puppet, no ordinary person moves like that even in animation”
-          Once again, Layton putting a polite and gentlemanly spin on “fucked if I know, my dude”
-          Lol I love that even the people who didn’t applaud and thus apparently knew what they were in for weren’t down for dying

-          Aaaaah the CG in this movie is really well done

-          I prefer Cartoon Saloon’s Song of the Sea, but this one’s pretty too

-          I’m surprised he can see over the top of his chest hair
-          God, the detrogan is such a cool instrument and I really wish something like it existed irl
-          Ah, it’s only like fifteen sharks, Grosky will be fine
-          I love the air of mystery surrounding Oswald Whistler
-          Layton’s hat is made of 100% pure uncut husband material
-          AAAAAAAAAAAAAH I LOVE HOW PUZZLES ARE USED IN THIS MOVIE IT’S SO GOOOOOOOD
-          I’m so glad they didn’t scrap it entirely coz I mean they’re so integral not only to the Layton games, but Layton himself
-          This music box tune kinda gives me Gravity Falls vibes tbh
-          I think the backing melody sounds pretty identical to the tune’s intro
-          I love that this movie actually lets us see inside Layton’s head and his thought process, it’s so much better than just having him put everything together seemingly offscreen
-          Tbh any puzzle where “the night sky” is the solution is bound to be a good puzzle
-          I just fucking love the implied MASSACRES in this movie
-          God Luke is so goddamn precious
-          Pffft pumpkin dude is so subtly duplicitous
-          Okay I have ot pause for a bit to rant about layton’s design because it’s SO GOOD. Warm colours make him seem welcoming and kinda comfy and the simple facial features, while a bit Ditto-esque, do combine nicely with his overall shape to scream “friend”. Professor Layton is friend shaped. And of course there’s the popped collar to show that he’s cool, the high collared shirt gives a scholarly vibe, his shoes which I stg are plimsolls show a practical side and of course the quintessential top hat shows that he’s a Gentleman first and foremost. Add the amazing voice to that and BOI I DIE
-          Although I can’t help imagining that gif with the teddy bear slapping eyebrows onto its face to look angry whenever he gets mad

-          Ugh I love these quiet moments where things can sink in and characters can just talk to each other, I really wish more movieswould do this
-          I love that even if you don’t have a literal look at his thought processes, you can still see Layton THINKINg
-          Agh Amelia is SO CUTe this series is so good at designing beautiful women and cute girls while also making them look DISTINCT
-          I like that they hinted at her intelligence by having her solve the puzzles by herself
-          One advantage a film has over the games is that the visual novel format kinda limits the dialogue, coz it’s hard to convey one charafter talking over another
-          I really like the side characters. They’re simple, yes, but they don’t really need to be complex
-          I will admit that the limits of Layton’s simple facial features means it can be hard to tell who/what he’s looking at sometimes…
-          “that man” asked me to write an opera, huh
-          WHY DOES NOBODY ASK WHO
-          Fuck descole’s theme is SO GOOD
-          WHERE DOES HE GET THE FUNDING FOR ALL OF THIS THOUGH
-          And Grosky boards the ship just in time for it to blow up XD I love this dude
-          I can only imagine his gigantic pecs act as a flotation device
-          Layton preventing Luke from looking at the exploding ship THIS MAN IS SUCH A DAD HE’S SO GOOD
-          I love this scene with Emmy investigating because these parent’s appearances are just enough to make it ambiguous whether they’re Nina or Amelia’s parents
-          Seeing them all wrapped up in blankets is kinda cute tbh
-          LET. THEM. SLEEP.
-          I wonder what Layton uses to keep his hat on?
-          Lol Emmy pushing a fossil aside to look at the map
-          I can only assume, given that they set off from the White Cliffs of Dover, that this island is SOMEWHERE off the coast of mainland Europe in about the same region as Spain
-          Ugh I LOVE Emmy’s uppercrust accent, the fact that she sounds like such a refined lady is such a fun contrast to her literal arse-kicking

-          It’s kinda cool that he’s an archaeologist too though. It really does run in the family.
-          The way Descole and Whistler’s schemes intertwined was really cool
-          Yeah, it just wouldn’t be Descole if there wasn’t some over-the-top machinery
-          YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS MAGIC MUSIC THIS IS MY SHIT
-          When escaping from a crumbling castle, do be sure to grab your boy.
-          AAAAAAAAAGH THE SCENERY IN THIS MOVIE IS SO FUCKING GOOD
-          Good lord, there it is. Descole just can’t function unless he has some ridiculous Humongous Mecha at his command
-          This thing looks especially monstrous and I love it
-          I don’t think I’ve seen ANY faults in this movie’s animation, jesus Christ
-          Descole, did you learn nothing from the attempted excavation of Troy? It’s very possible that your efforts to unearth Ambrosia will be what destroys it!
-          Aaaaaaaagh this flying scene is intense as FUCK
-          Layton and Luke are SUCH A GOOD TEAM

-          It’s very kind of Grosky to let Whistler play one last time in memory of his daughter
-          When I got into the Layton series, I was no expecting to be hit so hard with the FEELS
-          “Do you know that a man is not dead while his name is still spoken?”
-          GNU Ambrosia, I guess
-          Ugh it’s so PRETTY tho
-          Fucking sparkles and shit
-          D’awwwww, I love the image of Luke patching up the wolves, he’s so sweet
-          Knowing the truth about Emmy and seeing her being so happy with Layton and Luke makes it really painful :’(

oh man, i am so sorry about what happened to you there :( but asks ahh, first of all i LOVE your art a lot, seriously, it's so beautiful and always makes me happy! for how long have yoj been drawing now? and how did you figure out your gorgeous art style? how long did it take you to end up with it? ALSO, important question for any Gyro fan: as we all know, some people actually dislike 2017!Gyro, especially at the beginning. what exactly are your thoughts on that?
Thank you! That is always nice to hear. I know how happy it makes me when an artist that I admire posts something new. Sometimes it can turn my whole day around. I’m glad I can return the favor to someone else. 
I have been drawing since at least the age of 8. I took as many art classes as my school had to offer all through high school, but never got to go to college. I still feel like I learn something new every time I draw, especially on the computer. Clip Studio Paint has so many features and I am kind of a creature of habit so I have to push myself to try new tools. My style came with years of practice I guess. I like cute characters and bright colors mostly, but some times I like to challenge myself with darker pieces. I guess my style is pretty structured in anatomy even when applied to the ducks. So things in DT17, like simplified sharp looking beak shapes and the character’s non existent wrists really bother me. It’s fine for the show but I will never be caught mimicking it. I take a lot of influence from the old art and mix it with the things I like about the new. I guess I really noticed my drawing style starting to polish itself out in the last ten years. I did a lot of mimicking through high school though, from anime mostly. 
As for Gyro (and I will try not to make this too long), I think a lot of people were shocked about the difference of his character from ‘87 Gyro. Going back though, I have read the Carl Barks comic and I think the new Gyro is a bit closer to the old old Gyro. Some times he got pretty pissed and even violent, and he was definitely more arrogant than ‘87 ever dreamed of. I’m sure there are certain circumstances that haven’t been revealed yet as well that have made his new version a bit more abrasive. Personally I’ve always loved the snarky anti-hero so I am willing to accept him pretty easily.
