Dark Earths Zodiac
The Bat
ㅤCreature of the halflight, you fly along the line of the brink, the almost-- the bat zodiac embodies the inbetween. They are often considered strange by their peers, but in the right setting their feeling of discomfort fades and they become a unique voice. Those under the sign of the bat tend towards anxiety, longing to live unwitnessed-- the bat is most comfortable in the dark, but not alone; this sign craves to exist without judgement. They tend to become lost in their thoughts, their own worlds, to the extent that they can forget to engage with the world around them. But those who love the bat know that they will always return. For all their shadows, the bat actively seeks to be compassionate. Having themselves felt both the harsh sear of the sun and the lonely chill of the moon, they find themselves able to sympathize with almost anyone.

WHAT'S AT YOUR OC'S CORE?
— rippling sunset.
you're the nicest person i'll ever meet, probably. with an undying passion to protect those who can't protect themselves, you're energetic and bubbly to a fault. it's cute, watching you run around trying to tie up loose ends. i feel bad for you — out of everyone you know, you probably have some of the deepest trauma, more than anyone's aware of. this isn't something that you want attention for at all, and you'd really just rather forget it exists at all… even then, it seems like you can never escape it. i wish you a pleasant rest of your life, full of rippling sunsets and free of prying eyes.
— fractured glass.
no amount of orchestrated class is ever going to hide the fact that you're doomed to be alone. you're a puppet, you're a weapon, but most importantly? you're a fraud. your facade isn't malicious, but that doesn't change a thing. everything in your life is in your control now, and you chose to let yourself become stiff and distant. you're guilty of everything you blame yourself for, and your misfortune is the fault of nobody but yourself. your selfish nature forges you into a man-made monster, so quick to blame and so desperate to escape consequence. i hope that you can become someone you’re proud of soon.
— acerbic wit.
you're a mentor — an old scarred wolf, an injured soldier, a disgraced paladin. your teachings read as shamelessly pretentious, speaking in rhymes and biting down hard into anyone stupid enough to make the wrong move. this isn't your first life, nor your second, nor your sixth — you'll make the most of your time shackled to this world, no matter how many loops it takes to get it right. with every defeat, you reincarnate; a little smarter, a little quicker, crueler and nastier. will you choose to be brutal, equalizing, that final strike in the face of your enemies? will you go soft, become tender and domesticated? the choice is yours. it's not like i can stop you.
— silent admission.
in tarot, the fool is numbered 0 – the number of unlimited potential. as the protagonist, he is ever present and therefore needs no number as well as no introduction. the world revolves around you in ways that i can't begin to describe, though you'd shrug it off if i were to begin to explain. i need you to know that time is running out. if you want to get this done, you need to start now. sloth is your greatest enemy in this world, and you can only run so far from the opposition when you start with such a disadvantage. keep your head high, yeah? the kid you were is still in there somewhere. you need to show him that it was worth it.

I’ve been watching Harry Potter with my brother recently, and I’ve been considering what houses the characters would be in. Namely, L and Light since I feel like both those characters would be the most difficult to sort.
Both show attributes for Gryffindor, Slytherin and Ravenclaw, but I would definitely disagree with a Gryffindor sorting for either of them. Neither are that willing to jump straight into the foray with only the thought of saving others, there were too many mind games in canon for that. Hence a point for Slytherin for the both of them. Both are noticeably very smart, and both value one another as foes for that same intelligence; a point for Ravenclaw for both.
In the end it comes down to their primary motivations and who they really are behind all their masks; Light was bored and L was also. Should put them both in Slytherin, right? But no, I don’t think so.
After careful deliberation, I would say that Light would be in Ravenclaw and L would be in Slytherin. Not just because it’d be an interesting dynamic since the hero would be in the ‘bad’ house, but just due to some of their character traits.
Yeah Light was bored and a secretly power-hungry student, but his black-and-white sense of justice didn’t come from nowhere. His Kira traits weren’t just created when he touched the death note, they were funnelled and brought to the front by Kira. Light was always intelligent and sly and always thought criminals = bad = not equal to the lives of the good. It’s been shown time and time again that his black-and-white justice system was from his upbringing, and Ravenclaw is an idealist house. Whilst not the perfect representation of an idealist, Light is an idealist. This could be proven in canon when L rebuts that Kira has a childish sense of justice after Light described it to be ‘pure’. Though I do think Light is more than ambitious enough to be more Slytherin than he is Ravenclaw, I think that if we go back to the untainted version of Light who vomited in an alleyway, I do think he’s a Ravenclaw deep down. He prioritises his conceived notion of justice more than anything else, it is only after he has absolute power within his grasp that he is corrupted absolutely.
L, on the other hand, isn’t afraid to make it obvious to people that he is there for the thrill of it. He likes a challenge, he’s bored, and the Kira case is unique. So what makes him more Slytherin to me than Ravenclaw? Well, this one was a bit harder to be honest, but I think it’s the fact that he isn’t an idealist like Light and the fact that he’s blatantly more of a hedonist. He has a much more grounded sense of reality compared to Light, and yet, his primary motivation isn’t related to any sense of good will or for the world. He’s doing it because he wants to and because he, too, is bored. But don’t get me wrong, that doesn’t mean he’s a cold hearted villain; he cares about people, but he has few loyalties. For those he does care for, I can imagine he’d sacrifice a lot but not enough to be a Gryffindor. He only decided to reveal his face after all to try and get a one-up on Light, and even if he hadn’t at that point, I doubt he would’ve revealed it at Misa’s behest on Sakura TV (which L confirms.) L is very smart and his job is obviously heroic, yet he values self-preservation of himself and his people more so than any conceived system in place (unlike Light).

I logged into memrise for the first time since ~2016–2017 recently and found that they're basically trying to remove the community-made courses and promoting their own generic, structureless, auto-generated courses and filling the interface with irrelevant ads and videos.
and while duolingo's decline hasn't been as steeply dramatic, their removal of discussion forums and relevant grammar notes along with the removal of the incubator has really disappointed me. also, I'd made it pretty far in my Japanese course a few years ago when it was still linear, but I'd returned recently to find that they reset all my progress when they overturned the course structure and now, I've been stuck relearning the words "hotel" and "convenience store" for weeks.
it's not a great time for language self-study enthusiasts right now :(
