On #Sunday, we celebrated our #identicaltwins' #17thbirthday: #JackRiver walks here on earth with us, while his #twinbrother #RobertWilliam awaits us above. 👼 . And now the vigil. Robby, our #angelbaby, was born at 12:21 PM on Saturday, 03/22/2003, and after a courageous fight, he passed into the next life almost exactly three days later. 👼 . So for these three days, every single year, #thismama observes the #vigil for that duration. It comes with being willed, unbidden, sometimes unwanted, and forces me to just be STILL and feel the full force of these #emotions. 👼 . A #mother is NOT defined by the #children you can see, but by the #love she holds in her heart. 👼 . Not all #twins walk side-by-side; sometimes one has wings to fly...! 👼 . Yes. It has been SEVENTEEN DAMN YEARS, and I am still grieving the loss of our son, of the ID twin Jack is forever missing, of the "other brother" that our #daughters will never know. I know as a mom that the reality is, I will be #grieving forever. FOREVER. 👼 . You don't "get over" the loss of your #baby; you simply slowly learn to live with it. You heal and rebuild yourself around your #infantloss, and you may become whole again - but you will never be the same. 📷 @chantellechamps - possibly my favourite photo of the twins ❤️ they look so angelic, but the truth is, they had both been screaming uncontrollable for ages, they had horrendous colic, reflux 😩 and then they would go to sleep like this and all the stress and anxiety would literally melt away lol!! To the mother feeling exhausted, unappreciated or even invincible (you’re not. Rest up)! I see you. You matter. Your work makes a difference and you’re definitely enough. This weekend, I read that @jenniferhatmaker took her daughter on a yes trip for her 13th birthday and it has inspired me to do that and many other one off trips with my kiddos this year. What’s a yes trip? Basically, a weekend away with that child for her 13th birthday where the answer is yes. As mothers, we say no so often. I know that I do. I’m cognizant of not wanting to raise spoiled, entitled and selfish children. We get caught up in rules, responsibilities and raising kids, that we forget to live. Do you need a one off weekend trip with one of your kids? I know that I sure do. My husband does as well. Do you need a weekend trip alone somewhere? I sure do. Dear exhausted mom, don’t be a martyr. Even super heroes rest. Don’t be afraid to ask for help. Make time to fill your vessel. May you be inspired today to do something that makes you happy and allows you to have all that extra reserve needed to raise children. For me, it’s always been travel. Going to new places, experiencing the beauty around me and disconnecting from the daily routine of parenting, reenergizes my soul. Just go. It doesn’t have to require a passport or even transportation cost. There must be a nice hotel or B & B nearby ready to allow you to order room service or take out, take naps and binge watch your favorite show.
