Our story is as simple as it comes. Boy meets girl (online in 2003) and they marry, the end. 

Marc and I married March 2005 in a very simple, courthouse ceremony. Our “wedding” day was no where close to a traditional wedding day. Marc was living with a friend and I had an apartment in Atlanta, GA where we would live together after marriage. Marc worked the morning of our wedding until 12pm and I was home at my apartment absolutely nervous and questioning everything. I met Marc at the courthouse at 2pm I was dressed in a simple white dress, Marc wore a tan colored suit and a cheesy but adorable smile. We held hands and walked into the courthouse, everyone knew why we were there and they bid us congratulations as we made our way through the security checkpoint, to the elevators and down the hall to the location where marriage ceremonies were performed. As we approached the office I couldn’t speak, Marc took the lead to inform the lady behind the desk that we were here to get married, and he completed the documentation needed. 

It was our turn to go into the ceremony room that was the size of a closet with the brightest lights, the temperature had to be no cooler than 80 degrees and a cheerful judge that was possibly more excited about our union than we were. During our ceremony I looked into my groom’s eyes, he was a nervous wreck. I went from being nervous to wondering what was wrong with my groom and if we had enough room clearance for him to safely pass out because I knew it was coming. Between all of the nerves we managed to get our vows out and before you know it, we were married. We left the courthouse so excited, life was new and refreshing. Our first activity as a married couple included having a romantic cheeseburger from McDonalds and then home to prepare for a religious engagement later that evening. Because I was so nervous about getting married and I didn’t eat dinner the previous evening or breakfast that day, the greasy McDonald’s burger didn’t agree with me very well and I ended up with the worst indigestion. I was in the bed planning my final goodbye to my new groom because I was sure I was going to die. I was so embarrassed, already I was testing his loyalty to his vows “in sickness and in health”. Thankfully with hot tea and rest I was able to get over myself and proceed with my evening. 

We attended our religious event and went to dinner, The Cheesecake Factory and a movie, “Be Cool” with John Travolta (I had to quickly ask my husband the name of this movie, it was so lackluster, I can never remember the title). We returned home near 2:00 am and we were both exhausted but it’s our wedding night and I figured my new groom had “expectations” so I was mentally preparing myself on the way home while dozing off in the car. We finally reached the apartment and we walked through the door, there was a silence and we looked at each other, no words spoken but the question in the air was “now what?” Thankfully we were in agreement as to what needed to be done on our wedding night, we needed sleep! We shared a sweet and gentle kiss good night and asleep we went. Such a romantic wedding night right? Well, as untraditional as our entire day was, it was our day and a day I will never forget and my husband has yet to forget. 

We now fast forward 12 years and we have had  good times, great times actually and we have had bad times, dark times. We have gone through times that I didn’t think we would ever be able to come out of as a marital unit but here we are, still pushing forward. 

This union has produced 4 love flowers, 3 boys ages 11 years, 7 years and 5 years and our newest addition is a sweet baby girl who is a couple days shy of 3 months old. She has truly completed our family and we adore her so much. 

Marriage is hard work, maintaining a family is even harder, but family matters and no matter the trials if you continue to work together and you maintain a threefold cord in your union, you will reap the refreshing rewards a marriage and a family can give. So I thank you for reading our story and for joining our journey as we navigate through this thing called Life.
