Happy Halloween! 🎃☠️ Yesterday my company had a Halloween zoom call where we dressed up in costumes and added fun backgrounds. I had completely forgotten so I threw together this outfit to be Wednesday Addams 👧🏻 Also pictured is my favorite scary read from this month, Melmoth. It’s a gothic tale featuring a lady in black and dark secrets from different people in different timelines. Definitely gave me nightmares 👻 QOTD Do you have any plans for Halloween? • Prompt #thrilleroctoberv2 “post your Halloween costume and a book” hosted by @readwithangie • • #halloweencostume #halloweenbooks #melmoth #sarahperryauthor #bookphotography #bookish #booklover #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookworm #spookyseason #bibliophile #bookcommunity #gothicbook https://www.instagram.com/p/CHAtxhAgMtT/?igshid=tedgibh28kpw

🔪Book Review- My Sister, the Serial Killer🔪 Happy Friday bookworms! We made it to the weekend and the end of October 🎃 I finished my final book for the #thrilleroctoberv2 and sadly this month has been disappointing with thrillers. I listened to My Sister, the Serial Killer for the prompt “read a thriller by a BIPOC author.” Although categorized as a thriller, this book didn’t seem like a typical thriller. It was more of a contemporary novel on family relationships and sisterhood, with murder being a major plot point. There wasn’t any mystery or thrill, but it mostly focused on the relationship the sisters had, which I did enjoy. I also liked the short chapters making it an easy listen whenever I had a few spare minutes. I think I would’ve enjoyed it more if it wasn’t labeled as a thriller because my own expectations of what thrillers usually are made the book less enjoyable. I will say the ending twist surprised me and was the most thrilling part of the entire novel. Overall I didn’t love it or hate it, just wasn’t a book for me. Rating: 🔪🔪🔪 3/5 Triggers: Domestic violence, murder, child abuse, adultery, toxic relationships • • #QOTD have you been reading thrillers or spooky stories this month? • • • #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #books #bookreview #thrillerbooks #bookish #bibliophile #booklover #bookworm #booknerd #bookphotography #octoberreads #thrillerreading #audiobooks #scribdaudiobook https://www.instagram.com/p/CG-DZ8bgYYg/?igshid=aupf1mhjobn8

✨Book Review-Someone We Know✨ Happy Tuesday bookworms! We are getting close to the end of October and this reading month has been a bit disappointing for me in terms of quality. I hope your reading month is going well and better than mine❤️ This weekend I finished another book for #thrilleroctoberv2 for the prompt “reading a book by my fave thriller author” which is Shari Lapena! I’ve enjoyed a couple of her other books so wanted to pick up a third for this spooky season 🎃 Someone We Know has an interesting premise and the beginning grabbed my attention. As always, Lapena had me constantly changing who I thought was the suspect and the plot twists made my head spin (although I did guess a few of them). It might be a “me thing” but I didn’t like the use of British terms when the story is set in the US but maybe that’s something that won’t bother most people🙊 The end was fairly well done but I found it a little underwhelming. Honestly, the thrillers I’ve read this month haven’t been that good. They’ve gotten too predictable for me lately and don’t leave me saying “wow what was that?!” Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 4/5 Triggers: Domestic violence, murder, vomit, alcoholism/underage drinking, adultery • #QOTD what thrillers/mysteries have you enjoyed and recommend for surprising twists? • • • #bookstagrammer #thrillerbooks #bookstagram #someoneweknow #thrillers #bookphotography #bookish #bibliophile #bookreview #octoberreads #bookaholic #bookaddict #bookworm #booknerd https://www.instagram.com/p/CGkUFfTgzHh/?igshid=666lwn9uqm1i

✨Book Review- MELMOTH✨ Happy Sunday bookworms! I finished another book for the #thrilleroctoberv2 readathon 🎃 Melmoth by Sarah Perry is a perfect ghost story for autumn reading. Honestly I had to stop reading this right before bed because I got too freaked out about Melmoth creeping in my house 👻🙈 Some of the timeline switches were confusing between past and present when they changed from paragraph to paragraph. I had to go back and reread some sentences to figure out if it was the present or 6 months ago. This made it a little more difficult to get engrossed in the beginning. The story has great character developments and is more character driven/slow paced. The first half of the book was harder to get into but the second half had me intrigued. (I can understand why it has such mixed reviews on Goodreads). But most importantly: THAT ENDING?! It gave me chills 💀 Overall I really enjoyed this gothic tale of switching POVs and timelines. Its perfect for autumn and if you’re looking for a slow unraveling ghost story. Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫 4.5/5 stars Triggers: Anti Semitism, xenophobia, genocide, suicide, domestic violence, (mentions of) sexual assault • #QOTD what’s a ghost story/creepy novel that you recommend? • • • #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookish #bookcommunity #bookphotography #beautifulbookcover #melmoth #sarahperry #bookreview #gothicnovel #literaryfiction #bookaholic #bookaddict #bibliophile #bookrecommendations https://www.instagram.com/p/CGfGkNyAm9F/?igshid=uhizbv23gq5x

✨BOOK REVIEW-Before Her Eyes✨ Happy Tuesday bookworms! Over the weekend I finished my second book for #thrilleroctoberv2 🎃 Before Her Eyes by Jack Jordan is an interesting thriller/mystery with a blind MC, Naomi, Who is put in danger when she runs into a deadly killer. The town is haunted by a 20 year old cold case from when Naomi was young, and now they think the killer may be back for more. Throughout the book, I did predict some of the twists which made it less “thrilling.” The writing style also wasn’t my cup of tea, I don’t know how to explain it but the characters were kind of one dimensional and I hated how the women were portrayed. But it was an easy and fast read overall. The twist at the end was kind of surprising but I felt like there was a plot hole and had the “that was it” feeling once I reached the end. Overall the story was a bit underwhelming at times and I’d say it’s more intriguing mystery than exciting thriller. Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Triggers: Suicidal ideation, suicide attempt, graphic depictions of murder scenes/gore, ableism, animal abuse/harm, child abandonment, drug use, abortion, domestic violence, sexual assault • #QOTD How’s your reading month so far? • • • #bookreview #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookphotography #booksandpumpkins #thrillerbook #mysterybook #octoberreads2020 #booklover #bookworm #bookaholic #bookaddict #bibliophile #bookaesthetic #booknerd #booklove #backlistreads https://www.instagram.com/p/CGSaR50Apxk/?igshid=zo1vap7j7blv

📚Happy #stacksaturday bookworms📚 For this weeks #bookstack, I’m doing the photo prompt from @readwithangie ‘s #thrilleroctoberv2 and spelling “THRILLERS” 💀🕴🏾 with my book titles! This took quite a bit of time to find all the letters (E and the Ls were the hardest), and my Dan Brown books switched the author and title compared to the others so the perfectionist in me isn’t completely satisfied with it 🙊 Out of these books I’ve read (and loved) all but the top 3! #QOTD any books in this stack that you’ve read or have on your TBR? • • • #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #books #thrillerbooks #bookish #bookaholic #bookworm #booklover #booklove #bookphotography #stackchallenge #spellingstack #wordstack #bookphotography #booksandpumpkins https://www.instagram.com/p/CGKhRcEgphE/?igshid=17wlrgfp54d5p

⛓Book Review-THE CHAIN⛓ Happy Monday bookworms! I hope you had a nice weekend and a good week ahead of you ❤️ I finished my first #thrilleroctoberv2 book over the weekend, The Chain by Adrian McKinty, for the prompt “Book with red on the cover”🖍 The book had an interesting plot and was a quick read overall. I liked the first 50 pages but at some point the writing changed and became more descriptive about people’s backstories which didn’t seem to tie into the plot or add to the character’s actions. And then in the second half of the book, the story moved slower and the writing style felt even more different. The plot takes a turn in the latter half and I was not sure what the point was, especially given the choppy, prose like sentences. I guessed the plot twists towards the end as it became predictable. Also, The writing got super weird and philosophical. Overall I gave this one 3.5⭐️s because it was a great concept and it kept me reading pretty quickly but the last half of the book lost my interest. • Triggers: Cancer, child kidnapping/abduction, drug use, suicidal thoughts, suicide attempt, trauma, child abuse, murder, alcoholism • #QOTD what’s been your first read of the month? • • • #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #bookreview #thrillerbook #thrillerbookreview #bookish #bibliophile #bookaholic #bookaddict #booknerd #bookworm #bookphotography #bookaesthetic #bookreviewsneedlovetoo #october2020reads https://www.instagram.com/p/CF9lQ89Auos/?igshid=qw2b6mtu92zm
