Learning to Keep My Home Clean (and Joyfully So) 🏡
by thatgentlewife
Keeping house didn’t come naturally to me at first. It’s something I’ve had to learn little by little, with lots of grace, discipline, and the gentle conviction of the Holy Spirit. I used to feel overwhelmed by clutter and mess, unsure of where to begin, or if I even had the energy. But God is patient, and He’s been showing me that homemaking isn’t about perfection, it’s about peace, service, and love. 💕
Now, I’m learning how to care for our home in a way that brings glory to God and rest to our hearts.
• I wash the dishes right after I eat or use them, so the sink doesn’t pile up, and the kitchen stays peaceful.
• I leave the vacuum where I can see and access it (unless guests are over!) so I can quickly clean up crumbs and dust.
• I’m working on making our bed every morning, not just for looks, but because it starts the day with order.
• After I do my skincare, I put everything away immediately, because little acts of tidiness make a big difference!!!!
• My husband and I went through all of our belongings recently and donated everything that didn’t serve a purpose or hold sentimental value. Decluttering truly lifted a weight off our shoulders.
• I’ve started squeegeeing the shower after use, and we use a toilet tablet to keep stains from forming (simple, but so helpful!)
• Laundry gets folded and put away right after it’s done….it takes energy, but it’s so worth it.
• We don’t wear shoes in the house, and ask our guests not to either. It keeps the floors cleaner and creates a cozy, sacred space.
• Every night, I run the dishwasher. Every morning, I unload it while my husbands coffee brews. It’s become a rhythm I look forward to.
And most importantly:
I remind myself that my husband and I deserve to live in a clean, calm space. He works so hard, and I want our home to be a place of rest and renewal for both of us. Keeping house isn’t a burden—it’s a form of love.
This shift didn’t happen overnight. I had to ask the Lord to help me let go of laziness, to teach me diligence, and to fill me with joy in the little things. Proverbs 31 reminds us that a virtuous woman “looks well to the ways of her household” and “does not eat the bread of idleness.” Not out of pressure or performance, but because her heart is rooted in service and strength.
If you’re in the process of learning too, here are a few more tips that have helped me:
• Keep a pretty spray bottle of all-purpose cleaner on the counter to make wiping surfaces quick and easy.
• Light a candle or play worship music while cleaning—invite beauty into the process.
• Set a timer for 15 minutes a day to tidy one space—small steps really do add up.
• Ask God to give you a heart that delights in caring for your home, not resents it.
You don’t have to be “naturally tidy” to become a good homemaker. You just have to begin. And God will meet you in the work. He delights in order and peace, and He delights in you.
This is womanhood. This is service. This is worship.

✨ Your home is a reflection of your mind. ✨
A messy space can clutter your thoughts, while an organized one brings peace and clarity. Take a few moments today to tidy up—it’s not just about cleaning, it’s about creating an environment that allows you to grow, relax, and thrive.
🧘♀️ Clean space = Clear mind. 🧘♂️ Let go of the mess and welcome the calm. 🏡🌿

Trash Bag Therapy
I learned about this concept from the Minimal Mom on YouTube.
She says to grab a trash bag and start walking through your house.
Throw away actual trash (wrappers, stray paper towels, plastic casings, etc)
But also to give yourself permission to throw other things away that are clouding your mental space. Examples include: the magazine you thought you'd use for a recipe, a single too small disposable diaper, the shirt with a stubborn stain that can't be donated, the pens with no ink.
Two things can be true at the same time. Yes, we want to avoid filling the landfill with too much stuff. But also our peace of mind is important. The best thing we can do is get rid of stuff that stresses us out, and then make better decisions about bringing less into our lives in the first place. That's what I'm trying to learn, anyways.
I did some trash bag therapy this afternoon. Here's a few thins I threw away:
rotten tomatoes, many food wrappers, dried baby wipes, old takeout bags, Amazon packaging, a pregnancy test, dried up flowers, random used tissues
Feeling puzzled as to why there was so much hidden trash in my house, but now I know it's all gone and feeling tidy!

Next, adopt a ruthless decluttering attitude; if it hasn't been used in a year, it's time to say goodbye. Consider wall-mounted shelves and hooks to take advantage of vertical space and keep the floor clear. Finally, label everything. Knowing exactly where things are will save you time and headaches. Transform Your Home with These Housekeeping Tips and Tricks! 🏠✨
Maintaining a clean and organized home can be a daunting task, especially if you lead a busy life. However, with the right tips and tricks, housekeeping can become a manageable and even enjoyable activity. Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, these practical and efficient strategies will help you keep your living space spotless and well-organized with minimal effort.
Time-Saving Cleaning Hacks
Clean as You Go: Instead of letting messes pile up, tackle them immediately. Wipe down kitchen counters after preparing meals and clean spills as soon as they happen.
Multitask While Cooking: Use the downtime while cooking to do small chores. Load the dishwasher, wipe surfaces, or take out the trash while you wait for food to cook.
Use Microfiber Cloths: These are highly effective at picking up dust and grime without the need for chemical cleaners. They can be used on various surfaces and are reusable.
Two-Minute Rule: If a task takes two minutes or less, do it right away. This prevents small tasks from accumulating and becoming overwhelming.
Organization Tips
Declutter Regularly: Go through your belongings periodically and get rid of items you no longer need or use. Donate, sell, or recycle these items to keep your space clutter-free.
Use Storage Bins and Labels: Invest in storage bins for different categories of items and label them clearly. This makes it easier to find things and keep them organized.
Maximize Vertical Space: Use shelves, hooks, and wall-mounted organizers to make the most of your vertical space. This keeps your floors and countertops clear.
Create a Cleaning Schedule: Divide your cleaning tasks into daily, weekly, and monthly routines. This helps you stay on top of chores without feeling overwhelmed.
DIY Cleaning Solutions
All-Purpose Cleaner: Mix equal parts water and white vinegar in a spray bottle. Add a few drops of essential oil for a pleasant scent. This solution works well on most surfaces.
Glass Cleaner: Combine one part white vinegar with one part water and use it to clean windows and mirrors. For a streak-free shine, wipe with a microfiber cloth.
Carpet Deodorizer: Sprinkle baking soda on your carpets, let it sit for 15 minutes, and then vacuum thoroughly. Baking soda neutralizes odors and leaves your carpets fresh.
Grease Cutter: Mix baking soda and water to create a paste. Apply it to greasy surfaces, let it sit for a few minutes, and then scrub with a sponge.
Maintenance Tips
Seasonal Deep Cleaning: Set aside time each season to do a deep clean of your home. Focus on areas that are often neglected, such as behind appliances, under furniture, and inside cabinets.
Routine Checks: Regularly inspect your home for minor repairs that need attention, such as leaky faucets, loose door handles, and broken tiles. Addressing these issues promptly prevents them from becoming bigger problems.
Air Quality: Change your HVAC filters regularly and consider using air purifiers to maintain good indoor air quality. Clean vents and fans to prevent dust buildup.
Laundry Routine: Establish a consistent laundry schedule to prevent dirty clothes from piling up. Fold and put away clothes immediately after drying to keep your space tidy.
Expert Advice
Set Realistic Goals: Don’t aim for perfection; focus on making your home functional and comfortable. Break tasks into manageable chunks and celebrate small victories.
Use the Right Tools: Invest in quality cleaning tools and products. A good vacuum cleaner, microfiber cloths, and non-toxic cleaners can make a significant difference in your cleaning routine.
Involve the Family: Delegate age-appropriate chores to family members to share the workload. This teaches responsibility and ensures that maintaining the home is a collective effort.
Stay Consistent: Consistency is key to effective housekeeping. Stick to your cleaning schedule and make tidying up a daily habit to keep your home in top shape.
By incorporating these housekeeping tips and tricks into your routine, you can create a cleaner, more organized living space with less effort. Happy housekeeping! 🧹🧼🌟
