He Was Singled Out For Ragging
Tumblr media
The 17-year-old fell from the second-floor balcony of the hostel on August 9.
KOLKATA
The inquiry committee formed by Jadavpur University to probe into the circumstances leading to the death of a fresher has concluded that the victim was singled out for severe pre-planned ragging, which included possible sexual abuse. In its report submitted to the authorities, the committee said there are two possibilities for his death – “a case of abetted incident and a case of homicide”. The 17-year-old fell from the second-floor balcony of a hostel on August 9 allegedly during ragging by seniors who were staying in the facility illegally. The resident of Nadia district died in a hospital the next day. The probe panel, the members of which visited the hostel and talked to the stakeholders, however, could not conclusively say in its report the reasons behind the “tragic fall” of the student which led to his death. A total of 13 men, all former or current students, who were boarders of the hostel, were arrested in connection with the case. "As it seems, he (the victim) was singled out for ragging, which was carried out in a systematic planned manner, having deliberately isolating him for severe ragging, while the rest of his batch-mates were far from him attending a hostel general body meeting," the report read. It stated that the first-year undergraduate student of the Bengali department was ragged in phases on that evening. At around 6.30 pm, he was taken to a room along with 6-7 other freshers by one of the main accused where they were forced to shout "highly objectionable, sexist, and abusive” words towards the female residents of the adjacent police quarters. After being compelled to follow the commands, he burst into tears. The next session of ragging took place in another room, between 9 pm and 10.45 pm, where the boy was forced to put his signature in a complaint letter addressed to the Dean of Student, allegedly drafted by seniors, against a day scholar of the Department of Bangla, in presence of nearly 12-15 boarders. "After this..., the freshers, except the boy, were asked to attend an all hostellers General Body (GB) meeting which was held at the playground adjacent to A1 block at around 11 pm,” the report said. One of those who deposed before the panel said while the GB meeting was on, the boy was seen standing in the lobby of the second floor along with two boarders. Those who deposed reported to the committee that there was a loud cry (for help) by someone from the second floor of the A-2 block at past 11.30 pm. One of them who rushed to the spot after hearing the cry reported to have seen the boy running naked, and when he was trying to enter a room, two-three seniors pulled him out. The boy reportedly again started running desperately along the corridor of the 2nd floor A-2 block. The report said, "Information regarding the subsequent movements, just prior to his fatal fall, is rather uncertain and vague, as none of the witnesses gave a clear-cut description of the incident, which could help in ascertaining the cause and sequence of the mishap.” The committee is of the view that the minor was “severely abused sexually too”, it said. "A large number of them found the victim lying on the road adjacent to the A-2 block in a naked condition in supine position. At that time the victim was found profusely bleeding from nostrils, ears and mouth and possibly from the back of the head,” it said. The students covered the lower body part of the victim with a ‘gamchha' (traditional cotton towel, and took him to a hospital where he died. The report flagged the planned isolation and subsequent ragging of the boy, as being a well thought of act of cruelty. Find out more: https://timesnews7.com Read the full article

Led by Oakglen, the investment will fuel CareLineLive’s expansion and business growth as it continues to innovate the home care management software sector in the UK and internationally. Set up by Josh Hough in 2014 after being frustrated at the lack of access to information regarding his Grandfather's care, CareLineLive is an all-in-one, purpose-built home care management system. CareLineLive team The announcement comes alongside the UK government providing the NHS with extra funding to secure short-term care placements to relieve pressure and free up beds. CareLineLive has been working with NHS Trusts – such as Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Trust (MSE) – since June 2020 on a service that bridges the gap between being medically ready to leave hospital and their social care provider providing care, which reduces hospital delays and reduces readmissions. Other NHS Trusts have been slow to implement MSE’s proven model. This investment will be used to increase CareLineLive’s engagement within the NHS, local authorities, and other enterprise customers. With operations currently in the UK, Jersey, Ireland and Australia, the investment will help CareLineLive to fuel further growth in the UK and internationally. The investment will allow the company to scale its team and to accelerate its product development activities. Josh Hough, CareLineLive co-founder and MD, commented: “The home care sector is currently facing many challenges, from staff shortages to a lack of funding, often making it hard to deliver quality care for clients. To combat this, our mission is to streamline paper-based and other legacy processes, improve carer communication and ultimately give them back more time to do what they love best: caring. This investment will allow us to increase our sales and marketing activities and help us to continue to develop our product offering to meet the needs of carers, agencies, those receiving care, and their families. We’ll also continue our investment into delivering exceptional customer service, which is a key market differentiator for CareLineLive.” Nick Crawford, Group Co-CEO at Oakglen, added: “We are pleased to have made this investment in CareLineLive, and look forward to working closely with Josh and his team to support them in realising the significant potential of the business. CareLineLive has established itself well in a large and growing market, which we think will benefit from demographic tailwinds over the coming years. We believe that the strength of the product, the focus on customer service, and the domain expertise of the management team provides a great foundation for growth. We’re excited to see what Josh and the team will achieve in 2023 and beyond.” To find out more about CareLineLive visit its website here: https://carelinelive.com/ -END- About CareLineLive CareLineLive is an award-winning, all-in-one home care management software system for domiciliary care agencies. 3 Women Become Priests In Tamil Nadu
Tumblr media Tumblr media
3 Women Become Priests In Tamil Nadu Chennai: Taking the opportunity to close the gender gap in the profession, three young women -- one the first graduate in a family, another a graduate and the third a postgraduate -- have chosen to take up the sacred vocation of priest in a Hindu temple. The salary is meagre but that does not seem to be an issue for these pious young women who say god will provide for their needs. "I was working in a private firm in Chennai and gave up the job after my friend brought to my notice the state government's announcement on training women from all castes to become temple priests," says N Ranjitha, a BSc Visual Communications graduate. "I found it important to serve god and hence the decision to become a priest," Ranjitha told PTI. Her parents from Needamangalam in Tiruvarur district are farmers and she is the first graduate in her family, she said. Like her, S Ramya, a postgraduate in Mathematics, and S Krishnaveni, a graduate in Mathematics, decided to dedicate their lives to temple service. The three were among the 98 archakas -- the other 95 being men -- who successfully completed a one-year course organised by the Tamil Nadu Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments (HR&CE) department. The training was challenging initially but their teacher Sundar Bhattar taught them well, Ranjitha said. They newly ordained women are to be posted as assistant priests in Vaishnavaite temples under the ambit of the HR & CE department to undergo training for a year, after which they will be given permanent positions. According to Krishnaveni, both her father and grandfather served at the Mariamman temple in their village in Tittakudi in Cuddalore district. "Neither I nor others are worried about the salary since we trust that the Lord will provide for us," she said. All of them were initiated into priesthood from the Mannargudi Sendalangara Jeeyar during the sixth month of their training. They have been trained in Pancharatra agama, the Vaishnavaite tradition of worship, during their time at the Archakar Training School run by the Sri Ranganathar Temple in Srirangam. Like the rest of the trainees, they too were provided a monthly stipend of Rs 3,000. Ramya, also from Tittakudi, hopes to take up the new role in a major temple so that she can get an opportunity to learn more and gain good exposure as well. All the 98 archakas and four odhuvars (who recite devotional hymns in temples) received their certificates from HR & CE Minister P K Sekar Babu at a function held here recently. 3 Women Become Priests In Tamil Nadu Read the full article

BJP's Varun Gandhi Attacks Own Party Again
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Mr Gandhi said India should focus on conserving its own endangered species. New Delhi: In yet another attack on his own party and the Centre, BJP MP Varun Gandhi has termed bringing cheetahs from Africa and allowing them to die "cruelty and negligence", and called for a focus on conserving India's endangered species. Mr Gandhi's remarks come in the backdrop of nine cheetah deaths in Madhya Pradesh's Kuno National Park in a span of five months, and amid reports of the next batch of the big cats being brought from South Africa and introduced into the state's Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary. As part of Project Cheetah, the first batch of the big cats, brought from Namibia, had been released in Kuno National Park by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his birthday -  September 17 - last year. Sunday will be the first anniversary of Project Cheetah.  In a post on X, formerly Twitter, Mr Gandhi tagged a report on the another batch of cheetahs and said, "Importing cheetahs from Africa and allowing nine of them to die in a foreign land is not just cruelty, it's an appalling display of negligence. We should focus on conserving our own endangered species and habitats rather than contributing to the suffering of these magnificent creatures." Importing cheetahs from Africa and allowing nine of them to die in a foreign land is not just cruelty, it's an appalling display of negligence. We should focus on conserving our own endangered species and habitats rather than contributing to the suffering of these magnificent… https://t.co/atB0hFE8wC — Varun Gandhi (@varungandhi80) September 16, 2023   "This reckless pursuit of exotic animals must end immediately, and we should prioritise the welfare of our native wildlife instead," his post said.  This is far from the first time that the MP from Uttar Pradesh's Pilibhit has attacked his own party or a government headed by the BJP. At an event in Uttar Pradesh last month, he had asked people not to disturb a sadhu (ascetic) and said nobody knows "when 'maharaaj ji' will become the chief minister". The ascetic's phone had started ringing, but Mr Gandhi had stopped BJP workers from asking him to switch it off.  "Please do not not stop him, never know when 'maharaaj ji' will become the chief minister. Then what will happen to us?" he had been quoted as saying by news agency PTI. The joke was seen as a dig at the government in Uttar Pradesh.   Kuno National Park has seen the reintroduction of 20 adult cheetahs since September last year, and four cubs have been born there since then. Nine of the cheetahs, including three cubs, had died in a span of five months till early August this year.  Some experts had attributed the cheetah deaths to the use of sub-standard radio collars, but the government had dismissed the charge as "speculation and hearsay without scientific evidence". Hearing a petition on the deaths, the Supreme Court had said last month that there was no reason to question the government on the moves being made to reintroduce cheetahs in India. In an interview with PTI, Project Cheetah head SP Yadav said that the next batch of cheetahs will be imported from South Africa and introduced in the Gandhi Sagar Wildlife Sanctuary, which will be ready to welcome them by the end of the year. 90 Hours And Counting, Here's Why The J&K Encounter Is Dragging On
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Ex J&K top cop SP Vaidya said the Anantnag encounter points to the terrorists changing their strategy. New Delhi: Well-trained terrorists, the challenging terrain, dense forests and now inclement weather have all played a role in the encounter in Jammu and Kashmir's Anantnag stretching into the fourth day on Saturday. Three officers, Colonel Manpreet Singh and Major Aashish Dhonchak of the 19 Rashtriya Rifles and Deputy Superintendent Himayun Bhat of the Jammu and Kashmir Police, have been killed in action, a soldier is missing and at least two more personnel have been injured. The terrorists are hiding in a cave atop a hill in the Gadul forests of Kokernag, which affords them protection as well as complete visibility of the actions of the joint Army and police team that has surrounded them. The narrow path leading to the cave, which offers no cover and has a sheer drop on one side, is what had cost the three personnel their lives as the team began their first offensive in the early hours of Wednesday. Drones, rocket launchers and mortar shells have all been used, but the forces have not been able to achieve domination of the area yet. Officials say they are confident of neutralising the terrorists at the earliest. What has the establishment worried, however, is that this is one of three encounters in Jammu and Kashmir in five days and comes amid an uptick in terrorist activity in the Pir Panjal region, which covers the Poonch and Rajouri districts. Former Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police SP Vaidya said the Anantnag encounter points to yet another change in strategy by terrorists and their backers in Pakistan. Tough Terrain Highly placed sources have told NDTV that the forces first got intelligence about terrorists hiding in the Gadul forests on Tuesday night and, on learning that they were atop a hill, a decision to attack was taken in the early hours of Wednesday. "The path the forces have to take to get to the top of the hill is quite challenging. It is very narrow and there are mountains and a dense forest on one side and a deep ditch on the other. The personnel began the ascent in the night, and the darkness made it worse," said a source. Seeing the forces ascend, the terrorists began firing at the personnel, who found themselves cornered. This is when the three officers were injured, but the limited options for extraction meant that they could not be taken to hospital until morning. Well-Stocked, Well-Trained According to the sources, the terrorists have adequate stocks of arms, ammunition and even food, which is evidenced by the fact that they have managed to hold out for nearly 90 hours. They said the number of terrorists is also likely to be more than the two-three that is being mentioned in most reports. A recent Lashkar-e-Taiba recruit, Uzair Khan, is among the terrorists holed up in the cave. He is believed to know the area very well and the terrorists are benefiting from this. "Ordinary terrorists cannot stretch an encounter for so long. They are very well-trained and have good weapons. It is also possible that an informer may have double-crossed the forces or someone may have leaked their movements," said a source. Rain, And A Fire Bursts of heavy rain since Saturday morning have made the operation more difficult both by reducing visibility and by making it harder for drones to operate. A fire also broke out near the cave where the terrorists are hiding. 'Changing Strategy' Two terrorists were gunned down in a two-day encounter in Rajouri district's Narla area, which began on Tuesday, and three were killed in the Uri sector of Baramulla when they were attempting to cross into India from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The Army said Pakistani forces gave covering fire to help the terrorists cross the Line of Control and the gunfire from the other side also "interfered" with their efforts to retrieve the body of the third terrorist. The Baramulla encounter makes it the forces' third brush with terrorists in just five days. On the encounter in Anantnag, former Jammu and Kashmir Director General of Police SP Vaidya told NDTV, "The operation in Anantnag is taking place in a hilly area and there is a 75-80 degree steep climb. There is a dense forest on one side and a ditch on the other. It is very difficult for our forces when the terrorists hide in such a place. The terrorists are at a height and the personnel become vulnerable to attack when they try to ascend." "This seems to be a new strategy. A similar thing was also seen in Rajouri-Poonch recently, where the terrorists chose a hilly and forested area to hide in. For some time now, I have been noticing  that the terrorists have been changing their strategy on the instructions of the Pakistani establishment," he said. Mr Vaidya pointed out that when the Indian security forces began Operation All Out in 2017, thousands of terrorists were killed and they also began facing a shortage of AK-47s. He said there was a change in policy then and the terrorists started using pistols and small arms to target migrants, labourers and panchayat members in Kashmir in a bid to derail development. A spate of such incidents was seen last year. Seeking international attention? "When the forces managed to control that, a new trend is visible now, which was seen in Rajouri-Poonch and now in nearby Anantnag. Unlike in the past, terrorists are avoiding inhabited areas, where they can be easily surrounded, and are now hiding in thick jungles and hilly areas. This helps them draw out the forces and harm them, and the terrain gives them a chance to escape," the former top cop said. "They are trying to drag out encounters for three to four days so that they can get the international media's attention as well. I think there has been a change in the strategy and we will have to be prepared for it," he added. 90 Hours And Counting, Here's Why The J&K Encounter Is Dragging On Read the full article

With Eyes On 5 States, Congress Top Panel To Meet In Hyderabad Today
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The Congress will hold a mega rally in Hyderabad on Monday Hyderabad, New Delhi: The Congress Working Committee (CWC) will meet today to finalise the strategy for the upcoming assembly elections in five states. The three-day crucial meeting in Hyderabad is aimed at boosting the party's campaign in the poll-bound Telangana, officials said. Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge will chair the CWC meeting. Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi will also be there, they said. Party general secretary K C Venugopal said he is confident that Congress would form government in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Chhattisgarh, Telangana and Mizoram that go to polls later this year. There could also be a discussion on holding 'Bharat Jodo Yatra 2'. On Monday, the grand-old party will hold a mega rally in Hyderabad. "We will announce six guarantees for the people of Telangana. We hope that when the elections come, the party will get a clear mandate from the people," said senior Congress leader Jairam Ramesh. Mr Ramesh termed the CWC meeting as historic that will be "transformative" for Telangana politics. Launching a scathing attack on the BRS government led by K Chandrasekhar Rao, he said, "Understand one thing that the Modi government and the KCR government are two sides of the same coin. There is no difference between them, in Delhi there is Narendra Modi and in Hyderabad there is KCR.". Telangana is set to witness a triangular contest between the BJP, the ruling BRS and the Congress. The Telangana election will serve as a litmus test for the INDIA alliance before the crucial 2024 Lok Sabha elections. The Congress reconstituted the Congress Working Committee, and made some surprise additions last month. The committee was formed 10 months after Mallikarjun Kharge became the party chief. It has 39 regular members, 32 permanent invitees and 13 special invitees. With Eyes On 5 States, Congress Top Panel To Meet In Hyderabad Today Read the full article

Tumblr media Tumblr media
Maheesh Theekshana has been ruled out of the match due to a grade three hamstring tear.© AFP Sri Lanka have suffered a huge blow on the eve of the Asia Cup final against India as star spinner Maheesh Theekshana has been ruled out of the match due to a grade three hamstring tear. Theekshana will take no part in the final on Sunday, but is expected to be included in Sri Lanka's final World Cup squad. Theekshana had strained his right hamstring while fielding during Sri Lanka's two-wicket win over Pakistan on Thursday. "Maheesh Theekshana, who strained his right hamstring during the game against Pakistan, will not be available for the finals," said a statement from ACC. Theekshana went off the field multiple times while Sri Lanka was bowling. He was seen hobbling but completed his nine-over spell in the 42-over-per-side contest before being helped off the field by some Sri Lanka dugout members in the 39th over. Theekshana's injury adds to Sri Lanka woes. They are already without the likes of Wanindu Hasaranga, Dushmantha Chameera, Lahiru Madushanka and Lahiru Kumara. Theekshana is Sri Lanka's highest wicket-taker in ODIs in 2023 with 31 scalps in 15 matches at an average of 17.45. He will undoubtedly be a key member of Sri Lanka's 2023 ICC Men's Cricket World Cup squad should he remain fit. Teams have to submit their final teams for the mega event by September 28. Sri Lanka will play two warm up games, against Bangladesh (September 29) and Afghanistan (October 3) respectively, before their opening match on October 7 against South Africa Topics mentioned in this article Big Blow For Sri Lanka Ahead Of Asia Cup Final vs India Read the full article

INDIA Wants To Finish Sanatana, Push Country Back Into Slavery: PM
Tumblr media Tumblr media
PM Modi made the remarks at an event in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh.
NEW DELHI
New Delhi: In a scathing attack on the opposition INDIA alliance, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that it wants to finish Sanatana Dharma and push the country back into slavery for 1,000 years. The statement, which was made by the Prime Minister at a rally in poll-bound Madhya Pradesh on Thursday, is his first public reaction to the controversy over DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin's remarks on Sanatana Dharma. "They held a meeting in Mumbai recently, and I think they decided the policy and strategy of how to run the 'ghamandiya' alliance there. They have also decided on a hidden agenda. The strategy is to attack the culture of India. They have decided to attack the faith of Indians and finish the thoughts, values and traditions that have united the country for thousands of years," the PM said in Hindi. Drawing a link between India's heroes and the Sanatana culture, he said, "The 'ghamandiya' alliance has resolved to finish the Sanatana culture and traditions that inspired Devi Ahilyabai Holkar. It was the strength of Sanatana that the Rani of Jhansi, Lakshmibai, could challenge the British and say that she would not give up her Jhansi." PM Modi said Mahatma Gandhi considered Sanatana Dharma to be essential to his life. "He was inspired by Lord Ram all his life. His last words were 'hey Ram'," he added. The Prime Minister asserted that Swami Vivekanand and Lokmanya Tilak were also inspired by Sanatana and it was this culture that moved freedom fighters who were hanged by the British to say that they wanted to be born "in the lap of Bharat Ma" again.  "In the days to come, they will step up their attacks on us. Every Sanatani, every person who loves this country, those who love the people of this country; all of us have to stay vigilant. They want to finish Sanatana and push the country back into 1,000 years of slavery. But we have to stop such forces together. Through the strength of our organisation, we have to ensure that their strategy does not succeed," he said.  The PM's remarks came days after Udhayanidhi Stalin, who is a Tamil Nadu minister and a leader of INDIA bloc member DMK, spoke about "eradicating" Sanatana Dharma. While talking about caste differences, he had equated Sanatana Dharma with diseases like dengue and malaria. The BJP has used the remarks to attack both the Opposition alliance and the individual parties that are a part of it. While Udhayanidhi Stalin has stood by his statement and has found support from his father and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, allies like the Congress, AAP and Trinamool Congress have distanced themselves from it.  PM Modi laid the foundation stone for projects worth more than Rs 50,000 crore in Madhya Pradesh, including a petrochemical complex at the Bina Refinery of Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited. He will also visit poll-bound Chhattisgarh today. INDIA Wants To Finish Sanatana, Push Country Back Into Slavery: PM Read the full article

"He Is No. 1 Batter": Wasim Akram Left Fuming At Broadcaster Over Babar Azam vs Jasprit Bumrah Stat
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The mouth-watering Asia Cup 2023 Super 4 clash between India and Pakistan ended in the favour of the Rohit Sharma-led side as they registered a stunning 228-run victory on Monday. The match began on Sunday but due to the rain interruptions, it had to be shifted to the reserve day on Monday, where Virat Kohli left everyone dazzled with his 122-run knock. Chasing 357, the Babar Azam-led side could not even inch closer as Kuldeep Yadav took a five-wicket haul and bundled out Pakistan for just 128 runs. During the mid-innings break, there was a moment which left former Pakistan pacer Wasim Akram highly disappointed. Host broadcasters Star Sports had organised a poll, asking the fans to vote either for India pacer Jasprit Bumrah or Pakistan skipper Babar Azam. The results showed that 98% of the viewers favoured Bumrah and only 2% of them took Babar's side. Seeing this, Akram did not mince his words and said, "You guys are making these stats up. What? Babar is the No. 1 batter in the world. I mean, come on guys. Give him a little appreciation. Make it 3 percent at least. It will be a great battle. One of the top bowlers in world cricket against the No. 1 batter in the world, who apparently has just 2 percent chance against him." pic.twitter.com/dOjypOTRoN — Nihari Korma (@NihariVsKorma) September 11, 2023 However, Bumrah proved Akram wrong as the Pakistan skipper visibly struggled against Bumrah's fiery spell. He faced 13 deliveries by Bumrah and out of which, 11 were dot balls. The star pacer ended his spell with 18 runs and one wicket in five overs. Talking about the match, India posted an imposing 356 for 2, as Kohli (122 not out off 94 balls) and Rahul (111 not out off 106 balls), which was his sixth ODI hundred, pummeled a hapless Pakistan, whose chase ended at 128 for 8 as Kuldeep Yadav (5/25) scythed through them. On the century count in ODIs, Kohli now stands just two behind Sachin Tendulkar's record 49. Once India restarted the day from 147 for 2 in 24.1 overs, they needed Kohli and Rahul, the two overnight batters, to go big, and they did that in some style. Along with Rahul, Kohli amassed 233 runs for the unbeaten third wicket stand - the highest ODI partnership for India against Pakistan. En route to his 77th international century, Kohli also added some personal milestones to an already long list, becoming the fastest batsman to 13000 ODI runs and scoring his fourth ton in as many innings at the R Premadasa Stadium. One In Three Female Surgeons In UK Have Been Sexually Assaulted, Reveals Survey
Tumblr media Tumblr media
90% of women had witnessed some form of sexual misconduct, survey revealed. Female surgeons in the United Kingdom have been sexually assaulted, and in some cases raped by colleagues, in the past five years, a new survey has revealed. The study, published in the British Journal of Surgery (BJS) and shared with the BBC, examined sexual conduct in the UK surgical workforce over the past five years. It found that almost one in three female surgeons working in the NHS (National Health Service) have been sexually assaulted by colleagues.  As per the survey, registered surgeons - men and women - were invited to take part completely anonymously and 1,434 responded. It found that 30% of female surgeons who responded said they had been sexually assaulted, 29% of women had experienced unwanted physical advances at work, over 40% had received uninvited comments about their body and 38% received sexual "banter" at work.  "90% of women, and 81% of men, had witnessed some form of sexual misconduct," the BBC reported citing the study.  The survey concluded that men and women surgeons are "living different realities". "Sexual misconduct occurs frequently and appears to go unchecked in the surgical environment owing to a combination of a deeply hierarchical structure and a gender and power imbalance. The result is an unsafe working environment and an unsafe space for patients," it added, as per The Guardian.  Also Read | Taken Hostage In Kuwait In 1990, UK Passengers, Crew To Sue British Airways The survey also found that there is a lack of faith in bodies such as NHS Trust, the General Medical Council and the Royal Colleges to tackle the problem. Only 15.1% of women regarded the GMC as adequate in their handling of sexual misconduct. Evaluations of National Health Service Trusts were comparatively low. Only 15.8% of women rated them as adequate and 44.9% of men. "We need a major change in investigation processes so they become external and independent, and are trusted in order for healthcare to become a safer place to work," said Professor Carrie Newlands, consultant surgeon from the University of Surrey. Further, the report said that for staff, workplace harassment could be detrimental to their physical and mental health, with cases even leading to self-harm and victims contemplating suicide. The researchers called for action to improve the culture in the surgical workforce and "create adequate mechanisms to deal with perpetrators".  One In Three Female Surgeons In UK Have Been Sexually Assaulted, Reveals Survey Read the full article

Cow Vigilante Monu Manesar, Wanted For Double Murder And Riots, Detained
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Manesar is a key accused in the murder of two Muslim men from Rajasthan
NEW DELHI
Cow vigilante Monu Manesar, who was wanted in connection with the murder of two men from Rajasthan and for inciting the violence in Nuh in July, has been detained by the Haryana Police.  The Bajrang Dal activist is a key accused in the murder of two Muslim men from Rajasthan, whose bodies were found in a car in Haryana in February.  Nasir, 25, and Junaid, 35, who were residents of a village in Rajasthan's Bharatpur district, were allegedly abducted by cow vigilantes on February 15. The next day, their bodies were found inside a car that had been set ablaze in Loharu in Haryana's Bhiwani. Sources in the Haryana Police said Manesar was detained on Tuesday under bailable sections of the Information Technology Act. They said he is likely to get bail by evening and the Rajasthan Police will take him into custody in the double-murder case. Manesar is also accused of inciting the violence that broke out in Haryana's Nuh in July, in which at least six people were killed. The violence began on July 31, during a 'Jal Abhishek Yatra' organised by the Vishva Hindu Parishad, and then spread to adjoining areas, including Gurugram.  Rumours of Manesar attending the Yatra had allegedly triggered the communal clashes. The cow vigilante, who was on the run in the murder case, had posted a video a few days before the procession, claiming that he would attend it. He had also exhorted his supporters to come out in large numbers. This had allegedly enraged some people from the Muslim community, who viewed it as a threat, and triggered a heated exchange on social media.  Cow Vigilante Monu Manesar, Wanted For Double Murder And Riots, Detained Read the full article

Justin Trudeau's Return From India May Be Delayed Further. Here's Why
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Justin Trudeau's visit for the G20 summit was lower-key than his counterparts
NEW DELHI
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's departure from India could further be delayed after the replacement aircraft - which was on its way to Delhi to fly him home - was diverted to London, his country's media reported. "The replacement plane, which initially was routing through Rome on its way to India, has since been diverted to London, England," the CBS News said quoting Mr Trudeau's office. No reason was given for the unscheduled diversion, the news report said. Justin Trudeau arrived in India on Friday to attend the G20 summit. Mr Trudeau, his son Xavier and the Canadian delegation were forced to extend their stay in Delhi after their plane suffered a technical glitch. They were set to leave India on Sunday night.  The backup plane is also carrying the spare parts needed to repair the plane they arrived on, officials said. "The Canadian Armed Forces continue their best efforts to get the Canadian delegation home. Their latest update shows an earliest possible departure of Tuesday late afternoon. The situation remains fluid." said a statement from Trudeau's office yesterday, "These issues are not fixable overnight, our delegation will be staying in India until alternate arrangements are made," it said. Mr Trudeau's visit for the G20 summit was lower-key than some of his counterparts, and came against a backdrop of tensions between his government and India over Canada's handling of Khalistan sympathizers. Ashneer Grover Reacts To Case Over His Indore Cleanliness Remark
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He claimed that Indores top rank in the centre's cleanliness survey and had been "bought". Entrepreneur Ashneer Grover has posted a strong-worded tweet in response to a defamation case filed against him for his comments on Indore's top rank in the Centre's cleanliness survey. He reacted to the row by saying ''Sorry to Indore'' but adding that he was ''not sorry to any politician''. Notably, a non-cognisable offence information report was registered against him on Monday after a video showed him commenting on Indore's top rank in the Centre's cleanliness survey and purportedly claiming it had been "bought". The city has remained on top in the Centre's Swachh Sarvekshan for six consecutive years. ''Sorry. Not Sorry. Sorry to Indore. You've got great people and a city. But politicians everywhere have got no chill. Unnecessary politics being made out of a statement made in jest in a playful conversation on Bhopal vs. Indore. Where the audience had fun - no offence was meant. None taken by anyone. No one getting offended now was even present in the room,'' Mr Grover wrote on X. See the tweet here: Sorry. Not Sorry ! Sorry to Indore. You've got great people and city. But politicians everywhere have got no chill ! Unnecessary politics being made out of a statement made in jest in a playful conversation on Bhopal vs Indore. Where the audience had fun - no offence was meant.… pic.twitter.com/OGxZMu4yV1 — Ashneer Grover (@Ashneer_Grover) September 11, 2023   He further said that he doesn't care about an FIR, commenting that he wasn't ''a pushover'' and ''won't be bullied''. He added, ''Not Sorry to any politician. Ever. No one. Any party. Fire an FIR. File a case. It doesn't matter - I am not a pushover - won't be bullied. Don't make an issue where there is none. It might be an election year - but people are smart. Indori people - super smart. I'll come to Indore when I wish, as many times I wish...'. He concluded by saying that Bhopal is his favourite, and also called it ''India's best city.'' In an event in Indore, Mr Grover was heard in the video saying, "See, there is a concept - playing to the gallery, that is, wherever you go, praise it saying I have never seen such a nice city. Now the problem with me is that for three-four years I have heard that Indore is the cleanest city...you have bought the survey. It's a simple thing." Mr Grover, however, immediately clarified he was not saying there was filth in Indore, and that he meant several construction works are going on in the city. Indore's Mayor Pushyamitra Bhargava called his statement ''an insult to the hard work of the city's people and sanitation workers for cleanliness.''
