I Nearly Got Art Scammed

Hey guys. I wanted to share this story with you as a precautionary tale for artists that take commissions. It's one of those things you think will never happen to you until it does

So here's how I was almost a victim of an art scam and what you can to prevent scams from getting the better of you

This one started on ArtStation, which makes sense as a target since it's primarily a portfolio site for artists rather than a typical social media. It began with a standard question about commissions.

Nothing out of the ordinary, right? I replied that I was and asked if she would like a link to my commission form. In hindsight, her response should have alerted me that something was off because she didn't ask for the form. Instead she offered to pay $300 for a drawing for her son's birthday (just over a month out).

Still, if you're an artist desperate for commissions, you might overlook any oddities. We corresponded a bit more, sorting out details about the piece. That's when she sent this:

Minipost about Destiny artists I like

I'm not an artist so I have no idea what I'm talking about when it comes to technical stuff but heck I've turned about half my Tumblr dashboard into Destiny art blogs so I know what I like looking at

@nagunkgunk makes a bunch of cute little comics and has a really nice art style, not to mention draws a lot of tigers (which, as my favorite animal, is a plus)

@alaraxia draws a whole bunch of different IPs (and they're all wonderful) and I've always loved their use of colors and the magical-girl interpretations of Destiny

@heavenlyeros does a lot of incredible figure/character work with a really clean style (and just. Like. So much gay), as well as having a really cute chibi-ish style for some of their work. Plus they also do Mass Effect which is just the greatest

@morebird is incredible. I know I'm not the only one to think this but their work deadass looks like it's from the official comics. Their work is super clean and sharp and every time I see they've posted a new piece I get so excited!

@simpinforcrow Pretty self-explanatory. You like Crow? You'll like their work. Lotsa fluff and a bit of NSFW stuff but it's all really good and their hot drawings are really hot.

@queenauryx also has a lot of really good NSFW stuff, alongside some good cute fluff art and everything else. You want Iron Lords? This is how you get Iron Lords.

and finally (for today): @gemkimart Their style is so beyond beautiful that I just. I don't even know the words for it. Their tarot work is so good, and their painterly, textured style with all the colors is just UGH I literally can't even. I've lost track of the amount of time I've just spent staring at their work (plus I can personally vouch for their excellent work in commissions).

So yeah! There's a few of my favorite Destiny artists/art blogs if you haven't seen them before. There's obviously many more than just what I have here, and honestly this community has some of the best art I've ever seen (thus why my blog swung so hard from AH to Destiny with seemingly no lead-up).

At risk of sounding Stupid™️ what's the reasoning for Osiris being a meat puppet clone instead of possessed? I was kind of hoping he was possessed, bc then some of the borderline sweet interactions we got in the last few seasons with crow/Amanda/Saladin/caiatl could still be "real" and not just a deception. Like the idea of him being possessed without realizing it and slowly losing control (to now, where he clearly has no control over his actions) is interesting to me, is the argument against it just that he's too smart to be deceived that way or is there more to it than that? I'm certainly not an Osiris expert so idk if that's just too out of character for him even after losing sagira

I also first thought he could be possessed or taken or something like that, but as things went on and his behaviour gradually got worse, it became harder for me to accept that he wouldn't eventually break out of Savathun's control. I also believe that Savathun would've been risking it a lot more if she was just trying to control the real Osiris because if he slipped from her control even for a shortest amount of time, the whole scheme would fail.

Having her own meat puppet clone is much safer and she can keep an eye on real Osiris (which is presumably imprisoned somewhere in her court). This is important because having the real Osiris means she can use him as a bargaining chip later when she needs it.

Another point is that if she was simply controlling real Osiris, she would have access to more information immediately as he's participating in interactions with others. But the Osiris we've had for the past 3 seasons has been saying some things that are outright wrong AND he's also been curiously silent about the whole Vex Network business going on in this season. I'd assume he'd be talking about it A LOT, especially with Mithrax, but he only talks to Mithrax to antagonise him. Something that Osiris wouldn't do because real Osiris was telling Saint to talk to Mithrax back in Season of the Worthy. He was also saying that the House of Light cause is just in the same weblore. Curiously, this weblore is a record of a private conversation between Saint and Osiris. So only the real Osiris would know about it. This is just one of many examples.

There are too many inconsistencies and weird things that have happened in the past three seasons. Simply possessing the real Osiris and releasing him back to the City is too risky. If he breaks from her control, Savathun loses him.

Also, important to note, is the whole business of someone in the City being under her control and exhibiting weird body horror instances. Most notably in Ripe. I want to make sure people understand that Osiris, when he's not in combat, takes off his helmet/mask. He has never taken them off since Season of the Hunt. We have not seen anything besides his eyes for three seasons, and that includes him in interactions with people in lore.

Perhaps THE most important point for why it's a meat puppet/clone: we've had no lore from his POV since Immolant and he's been a major character in all three seasons since. He otherwise has a lot of lore from his POV. To have nothing from him, even if he's possessed, is very strange, because it would be so easy to show us hints of possession by showing us lore from his POV and possible slips from Savathun's control.

I really wanted for some of the interactions to be with the real Osiris too, especially with Crow. Man, Crow has had Osiris as a mentor for 6 months and it's not even Osiris. Poetic cinema parallel with Uldren and how he spent so much time thinking he's communicating with Mara, but it was Riven (and by extension, Savathun; Savathun leave Crow alone challenge).

I hope this was somewhat coherent and helpful. There's really A LOT of content for how this whole theory works and it's 3 seasons worth of hints and details in lore. Today's cutscene was 100% proof for it. Real Osiris would not have stood there watching as Saint is about to be killed by the Vex, again. A part of him would show an attempt to escape Savathun's control or we would have some other hint for it in some way. Remember, real Osiris managed to briefly escape being nailed to a rock by Xivu Arath's Hive magic in Immolant Pt. 2. He is capable of breaking through Hive shenanigans, even for a brief moment. We would've seen him attempting it in the past 6 months by now or there would've been some hint one way or another.
