Nicalis back at it with Tiny Barbarian DX! Another title I’ve had on my wishlist for years but never got around to it. So happy to finally have it on the Switch, and excited that Nicalis is giving all their first run releases the physical goods and manual treatment! 

I also got the Overwatch Anthology in! I have read all the comics online (as they’ve released) and thoroughly enjoyed them. I was pleasantly surprised to see some extra goodies that seem to be exclusive to this physical release (such as Torbjorn meeting Bastion). Maybe some of these mini comics were featured elsewhere...but they are new to me here so I’m happy to have them in this book! I will be reading it soon!

At first glance, Tiny Barbarian DX had me raring to go with a whole spiel about retro gaming, retro inspired gaming and developers cashing in on nostalgia and throwback ideas in order to market their game. I mean, just looking at the graphics and hearing the music would instinctively put you into a mindset that’s somewhere between Atari 2600 and the NES. Thankfully, after playing quite a bit, I…

Tiny Barbarian DX has boxart from Famitsu’s cover artist ⊟ 

Also Maximo, Adventure Island, etc. I feel like I’d be able to pick out Susumu Matsushita’s art without being told, but Nicalis is smart to highlight the pedigree of this cover image -- not only with the signature on the box, but also:

“a full-color instruction manual that includes a featurette on the making of the box art. It describes Mr. Matsushita’s creative process, details his preferred art supplies, shows photos of him working at his drawing table and even identifies the 1960s rock instrumental that he listened to while he created the cover!”  

I feel comfortable saying that Nicalis is at the absolute pinnacle of Switch game packaging. This is out Q4 for $30. Also, I’m preeetty sure Tiny’s gonna be in it.
