... Odd question completely out of the blue but I've been thinking of this for a long long while and wanted to hear your opinion - is it possible that William Carter may have a connection to the Stranger ? Maxwell has the attention of the Eye and the Dark and probably Spiral and the Web (... maybe he's just a special Old Man and all the Fears like him for some reason I don't know-) but I was thinking of the Stranger to William due to the whole 'changing name and appearance into someone new' as well as the whole showman act and illusion and the creeping of dread the Codex brings that stems from familiarity-

Though I honestly haven't finished the last season of the podcast and don't quite have a clear understanding of all the Fears yet/still, but, I remember you talking about a TMA crossover with DST and wondered if maybe you'd have clearer thoughts about this ?

(.. I don't mean to be a bother about all this, disregard if you like! I've just been thinking about this for months and have been wanting to ask someone who'd know a bit more about it.. )

Anywho, I think you are certainly onto something with this! The stranger can most definitely fit William/Maxwell. He gives up one identity for another, discards the image of William Carter and begins to present himself as a completely different man. Him taking on the role of an avatar of the Stranger easily could occur after the train crash since in order for someone to become an avatar you reach a point where you physically or metaphorically die (such as we hear from Jon’s coma, Jude Perry’s burning, Michael becoming one with the Distortion, etc.), and he basically does this by leaving William Carter to have died in the crash, from the scratched out address on the letter to Jack we can presume that he left his status to the wind for his own brother. And you're correct in mentioning his showmanship, I mean even the shadow puppets can give ties to the Stranger as they are practically mirrored images of himself in a shadow form.

In honesty, I think he’s been touched by quite a few of the entities and I am still partial to my original concept of him being an avatar of the Web, with Them being the Web entity and the Codex being a Leitner tied to the Dark. There's much in him manipulating the others into the Constant, but him also being manipulated, and the themes of puppets. Including Maxwell himself being a puppet on the throne and then ending up in the same tier as the others, at least that's how I sort of view it. With nothing more then his words he's able to show the other survivors what they are looking for and to make a bargain that sounds good enough for them to go with him, making them fall into the trap he has laid down for them.

Looking at other entities, he seeks for knowledge over magic which touches in the Eye, plus Them certainly seem to be Constant surveyors. He has substantial amounts of debt which tie to the Buried. And there’s some more stuff that surrounds him that can point towards other entities.

I think the old man is just quite a treat for the entities to play with and boy are they having fun with it.

I was thinking what would their stats be and I feel like Elias should be something between Maxwell and Vickerbottom? Having knowledge at cost of being frail? About Peter my only thought is is that like some other characters he should grow a killer beard 😂 oh also maybe he should have some water connected ability? Early knowledge of how to build a ship? I would love to hear your thoughts!

Mind? I would love nothing more!! i had so much fun playing with my friends i truly love that game, we still need to finish the boss fight tho, but its such a fun game.

When i made Elias i actually did take inspiration from Maxwell so yes the stats would be fitting, he is weak in terms of survival, since he is more of a watcher, heh, but i did picture him having some sort of power up that kind of makes enemies confused for a bit, enough that they dont attack and he can escape.

Most of the other power ups i though would be too web or end for him to have. Albeit he could do like wickerbottom and have leitners to use, that way he also has some advantage.... mm that actually sounds very good.

So yes leitners or trauma dumping the poor creaures to stun them and run off would come in handy i presume.

Peter my beloved!! He would have a ship already included with him, or at the very least enough wood to start one from the beggining, plus he has advantages on the sea. Mm actually having him be able to get sea fairing things at a lower cost of wood would also be really cool. Becase grinding for wood is a pain in the ass, especially the further along in the game cause he would incoke tree guardians all the time.

Also i imagine thats the first thing he tries building a ship, even if he doesnt realize the dangers of the the other seasons at first. Like say the summer and having the boat start to burn out of nowehere.

Im debating on him growing a majestic beard or like Woolie it already comes with him so it doesnt change. Both are good, i feel Elias would try to get him to shave all the time if he got it to grow so much. Which is a hilarious concept of him running after Peter who is trying to escape.

I also debate if like Woolie he should have a side effect with the full moon, kind of like he makes fog by accident attracting ghosts or he becomes intangible for a bit, meaning he cant do anything for that night. Elias would be seriously pissed off.

Also Elias makes his camp near the beefalos and the water if there is any, that way Peter always drops by. Or!! The swamp, he would hate it, but the spiky tentacles are good for killing small beasts if he times it right.

Yes, maybe Elias with leitners books kind of like wickerbottom, he needs to make paper so he stays near the swamps. The only good thing is that his sanity lowers very little unless he is under duress for too long.

If you want to yell more at me i am more than happy to listen to it!! I love this so much plus i like to think of abilities or stats.

dst tma au

I’ve been thinking this almost non stop for the past weeks

Wilson and Wickerbottom (ok but I legit just realized that Wickerbottom could give off such Gertrude vibes but if she mastered the usage of Leitners :0 ) are 100% servants to the Eye. Though in saying this I could possibly see Wilson with connections to the Lonely as well.

Maxwell is by far the most wishy washy, I feel like he has very sharp connections to the Web and Them being the Web entity fits but the focus on the darkness, nightmare creatures, nightmare fuel all point instead to the Dark, I’d also personally suggest Spiral elements. Though as Leitners exist, maybe it would be safe to lock Maxwell into serving the Web and the Codex Umbra being a Leitner with ties to the Dark. (I wanted so bad to also suggest links to the Buried, there’s a few things there I’m sure, maybe he’s simply been touched by it, same as the Spiral)

Charlie would definitely fall into the Dark or the Spiral. Her whole being a monster in the dark, though her battle between two sides and coming together as one also points to Spiral elements.

Willow very obviously the Desolation.

Wes the Stranger. Funny mime? yeah Stranger vibes

Wolfgang the Flesh. Man goes to that one flesh gym. Also ok he could maybe fall into the Stranger, I know the man reeks of it as well, circus? Check. Russian? Also check. Idk I’m set on making him apart of the Flesh.

Wendy the End. Wendy’s whole character literally screams the End vibes

Webber the Web. Another obvious fit simply by looking at this kid lol
