TMNT Strongest Couples
Number one: Hamato Yoshi and Tang Shen
Why Splinter and Tang Shen are the strongest couple in TMNT.
I know some of you are going to disagree with this because of Shen's clear consideration for Oroku Saki but you must remember that Shen was not thinking about running away with him to New York for love but for Miwa, her child, who she wanted to have a dedicated father in her life.
The reason I believe Splinter and Shen are the strongest couple is that, despite all the conflict, despite all the feeling of betrayal between them and Oroku Saki, and the drama love tringle.
Yoshi and Shen prove that their love for each other was stronger than all of that.
There are signs that the two have been through hell together.
This is total headcanon but hear me out.
In this picture, most think that Yoshi and Saki were both sent off to war. However, notice that Yoshi is the only one wearing army wear and Saki looks like he is just wearing a normal T-shirt.
I don't think Saki went with Yoshi to war and this photo was probably taken the day he returned home. That or Saki did go, but he came home early, due to an injury or something. Whatever the case, I think that is when Shen was with Saki.
In the beginning, when Yoshi went off to war, Shen stood strong but as weeks turned into months, months into years, Shen was missing Yoshi, growing depressed and just overall feeling alone.
That is when Saki decided to make his move, he tried to convince Shen that Yoshi might be dead since his letters stopped coming but Shen refused to believe it. Still, Saki did not give up, he made sure to spent as much time with Shen as possible and help her with whatever.
Shen started to enjoy Saki's company and one night, after a few drinks, Shen slept with Saki. She felt horrible and hated herself for it. Saki, however, enjoyed it and tried to convince Shen that Yoshi would want them to be happy.
Shen was freaking out, confuse with all these emotions and grief was filling her heart because she was starting to believe that Saki might be right, and that Yoshi really is dead.
Saki was there to comfort her, and Shen did not resist. After weeks of processing everything, she decided to give him a chance and Saki was overall happy.
However, when Shen started dating Saki, he grew to be very jealous and insecure. A guy could just be waving at Shen and Saki would be upset. He was also very cold towards his family, and cocky with his clan members, taking all the credit for their successful missions and Shen did not like that at all.
Whenever Shen tried to correct him, he would snap at her, and they would argue for hours. Shen just had enough and broke up with Saki. She thought that he could help her with her loneliness but clearly, she let her grief cloud her mind and judgement.
She missed Yoshi and only wanted him, but she was not even sure he was alive then...he came home.
Shen never felt so much happiness and relief in her life when she saw him but worry overcame her when she remembered that she had been with his brother while he was away.
How would she tell him?
Shen was a very honest person and knew she could not keep such a secret from Yoshi. She probably waited a couple days for Yoshi to get used to being home again before she blurted it out.
Yoshi no doubt felt hurt and betrayed but Shen desperately tried to explain that it meant nothing. That she had thought that he was dead, and she let grief take control of her.
And...that is when hell broke loose.
Yoshi no doubt went to confornt his brother about this, because not only did Tang Shen betrayed him but his own brother did as well. Shen followed, trying to stop him, in worry but in the end, the two brothers fought.
When Yoshi went to Saki, all angry, Saki knew what it was about and did not even try to deny it either. He angrily told his brother how he betrayed him first, saying he knew that he was the one who had feelings for Shen first, but he stole her away. He then grew petty and began to insult Yoshi, right in front of Shen who was trying to tell him to stop.
Yoshi could not hold it in anymore and lost his temper, not holding back as he beat his brother to the ground with Shen screaming at them to stop.
Yoshi eventually snapped out of it, upon seeing Shen's face but Saki...turned cold. He did not say a word, only giving the old shoulder as he walked off and Yoshi stood there, unsure of what to think or what to feel as Shen hugged him, crying and begging for forgiveness. She swore that she only loved him and though Yoshi could not forgive her right away, he hugged her, nonetheless.
Though Yoshi was still very angry at both of them, he still loved Shen, very much and was willing to work pass it. He guessed he could understand why she did what she did. He himself was very lonely without her and in a way, he was kind of grateful that his brother was by Shen's side while he was away. Still, Yoshi needed time and Shen understood that completely.
It took some time but eventually, Yoshi and Shen were back to how they used to be. Yoshi and Saki however...were not. Ever since their argument, they stopped being brothers and friends, they were not even around each other unless necessary.
It hurt Shen to see them like this and she blamed herself for it. She tried to fix things, but Saki was not willing, all he was willing to do was try to win her back, but Shen refused each time, telling him that she only loved Yoshi and what they had in the past was not love.
Did Saki give up? Nope! He just grew worse and worse, and the relationship he once had with his brother was on its way to hatred. Yoshi was not very willing to fix things with his brother either, he was still angry at him for what he did and angry at him for still trying to win Shen back.
However, things started to change when she was born.
Hamato Miwa! Yoshi and Shen's most precious tressure.
You can imagine what Saki must have felt when she came along, his hopes for winning Shen back lessening but still, did it stop him? Nope! If anything, it made it even worse.
Yoshi had a different effect, when Miwa was born, all of his anger that he had for his brother went away and he tried to make amends because he wanted his daughter to have an uncle but Saki, wanted nothing to do with Miwa.
It upsetted Shen because she wanted them all to be a big happy family, but Saki was not willing to let past be past.
After Miwa was born, Yoshi and Shen finally decided to get married. They had planned to do it sooner when Yoshi returned but held off for...obvious reasons.
(Is this a picture or a portrait? Like a painting. I don't know, this picture for some reason to me just looks different than the others.)
For a whole year, Yoshi, Shen, and Miwa were a happy little family but then...Hamato Yuuta, Yoshi's father got sick, and Yoshi had to take care of the clan.
Shen understood but...Yoshi started to come home later and later. Not having any time for Miwa and Shen knew it was not all because his father was sick.
When Shen finally asked about it, Yoshi explained to her that his father wanted him to train more, so he was prepared for when he led the clan and that worried Shen.
She knew that Yoshi was always going to lead the clan but...they had a daughter now and living a life of a ninja could be dangerous, not only that but was Yoshi planning on leading Miwa down the same path?
One thing led to another, the two got into a huge argument and many after until Shen decided that they needed to sperate for a bit. Shen stayed at their house while Yoshi went to live at the dojo.
Seeing Shen and Yoshi separated and fighting, Saki saw it as his chance.
After Saki saved her from the 'yokai', Saki began to confess that he 'overheard' her conversation with Yoshi.
He tried to convince her that Yoshi only cares for the clan and will never leave it, and part of Shen was scared that was true. For Yoshi has not proven otherwise.
Saki then pleaded to her to take him back, saying he would take her to New York and be a good father to Miwa. He tried to convince her that he had changed and Shen, ashamed to admit, had considered it.
Shen did not want to betray Yoshi again and she still loved him dearly but...what was best for her daughter? Yoshi or Saki? If Shen did not have Miwa, she would never even consider for a second to leave Yoshi for Saki but what Saki was offering, was a life she believed to be better for her daughter.
Shen wanted Miwa to have the childhood she never had.
When Shen said, "I can take care of myself. I've always had."
Sounded to me like Shen went through a hard life and she wanted Miwa to have better. She wanted for her daughter to have the normal, happy family she never had and if Saki could give her that, then Shen would say, "yes"
She did have small feelings for Saki when she was younger, before she chose Yoshi, and she was sure she could love him in time. Maybe not how she loves Yoshi but different.
However, Shen was not willing to give up on Yoshi so easily and took some time to think it over, that is when, her future sons came to the rescue.
(I don't know who wrote this but I 100% agree with it)
When the 'kappa' came, Shen having no idea that they were her sons in the future, she will admit, she was scared of them at first but realizing that they meant her nor her daughter any harm, Shen welcomed them into her home and listened to what they had to say.
The blue one warned her about Saki, but Shen still refused to believe Saki could be evil. He may be jealous but that did not make him evil. The Purple and Orange one also pushed, telling Shen that the world could be destroyed based on her choice and that Yoshi really did love her and Miwa more than anything.
Still, Shen was having doubts, and the pressure they were putting on her was not helping. She did not know who to choose, all she knew was that she must do what was right for her daughter.
It was only when the red one said, "Follow your heart, Shen. You know who the better man is."
Looking into his kind green eyes, Shen could feel Raphael's faith in her. He did not try to tell her what was right or what was wrong like the others did because he trusted her to make the right one.
And Shen valued that. During this whole conflict between her, Yoshi, and Saki. Saki, the other kappa, and everyone else, kept trying to tell her what the right choice was. Not letting Tang Shen decide for herself.
Everyone kept trying to confuse her and put their own opinions in her head, especially Saki but it was her marriage, her life, her daughter and she will decide what was best. No one else.
Raphael reminded Tang Shen to do what she should have done from the start and that was listening to her own heart, the only voice she should have been listening to the whole time. Not Saki's.
After the kappa left, Shen said her goodbyes and thought over everything. From the day she met Yoshi, to now.
She was reminded of why she loved him in the first place. She loved his warrior spirit and would never ask him to banish that part of himself completely, she just wanted him to understand that while his clan is important, his family should be top priority.
Looking back at their earlier conversation, Shen realized that the ultimatum she gave to her husband was a bit unfair. Shen accused Yoshi for not caring about her dreams and future for their family but...had she really cared for his?
Shen was beginning to think that she was being a little selfish. Though she had dreamed for a normal life, a normal family...it was not what she signed up for when she fell in love with a ninja and decided to marry him.
Shen's life had never been normal but...it did not make it a bad. There were hardships but there were also amazing happy times that Shen tressures.
As much as Shen wanted her daughter to not experience what she did or carry the same burden her father carries...was it really fair for her to take that choice away from her daughter?
Shen only wanted to protect her daughter, scared what would happen to her if she went down the same path as her father but...it was her life and Shen had no right to make decisions for her daughter's life, especially when she has yet to have her own opinions.
Shen knew that Yoshi wanted nothing but for Miwa to be safe and happy. To make her own choices and she doubts that he would force Miwa to be a ninja if she did not want to be.
Shen was still worried about what ninjutsu would do to her family but after she talked to Yoshi, listening to him apologize and assuring her that he did love her and Miwa....Shen knew what the right choice was.
So, yes, maybe Shen had doubts but her heart itself never lost faith in Yoshi. She loved him and knew he was the best father for their daughter.
In conclusion, there has been a lot of conflict, betrayal, and hardships between these two, but they fought through all of it, not letting any of it get in the way of their love for each other. Their love was truly a force to be reckoned with, no matter what life threw at them, their love for each other only grew stronger.
Up until the very end...and....
The time after...
