Good evening pals it's time for more "things I like about the Ace Attorney Anime despite the budget being less than what I have in my piggy bank". Tonight is one of my favorite adaption decisions from "Farewell, My Turnabout" (obvious Spoilers for that case, you have been warned).
To start, the art in the anime is often pretty funky and off model, but I wanted to highlight this frame when Phoenix is talking to Matt Engarde in the detention center with his reflection in the shot. It is genuinely well drawn and downright horrifying. Actually, the whole episode has pretty good draftsmen working on the character animation, considering.
I could honestly leave it as is, but this next scene is what I want to talk about the most. (I have to leave some stuff out because of the 30 image limit--I took like 50 screencaps of this scene in total lol--so bare with me.) Phoenix steps out of the Detention center to see a certain prosecutor waiting for him.
The following conversation takes place in the Criminal Affairs Department in the game, but in the anime, it takes place in Edgeworth's office! (RIP Eddy's Bratworth outfit which is just a 2D image on that wall lmao--again, there are some well drawn stuff but this is just silly.) Another note: the text is from the sub with the localized English names, and it's a bit different from the dub.
This shot lingers for a bit, and you hear traffic outside before the following happens. The rest is under the cut.
Brilliant, incredible, amazing, showstopping, spectacular, never the same... you get the idea haha. I love it very much.

i wish that miles lost his shit in 1-4 like for all they try to portray him as fake-apathetic he definitely should’ve torn manfred von karma apart. You’re telling me that FOR YEARS you were haunted by visions of you killing ur father and then you find out that your surrogate father figure WAS THE ONE that killed your dad and your response is to … nod along and go “yes yes it seems my name has been cleared oh indubitably”

Nothing hits me like a good post 7yg narumitsu fic with Phoenix definitely dealing with the trauma. How it all fueled his pre-existing (I am a BPDnix truther) and how he has to learn to deal with it in this new context. Bonus points if it also contains him and Klavier becoming friends as they forgive and support each other while they work through their Kristoph trauma.
That or a gut wrenching narumitsu hospital fic.
I do need happy endings though, my heart can't take it otherwise✨
I wish I had the writing abilities or the time to at least attempt to write this stuff lmao

This de Killer AU fascinates me. What causes Phoenix to sign up as a detective then, if i might ask?
Okay!! So, in this AU, DL6 happens, except Von Karma hires De Killer to do the deed and asks him to frame Yanni Yogi for the whole thing, kinda like what De Killer did with Adrian Andrews. When De Killer does do the deed though, he ends up taking Miles in as the boy's intellect seemed promising.
In Phoenix's perspective, his friend suddenly disappeared from the face of the earth during the incident of his father's death. When De Killer's involvement is proven in court and Yanni Yogi is acquitted for the murder on a loophole, it is confirmed for almost everyone that the boy had no chance of surviving a professional assassin and was probably just buried somewhere. Except, in Phoenix Wright fashion, he stubbornly believed that Edgeworth is still alive somewhere.
Blablabla typical Dahlia shenanigans except, instead of catching unto Mia, he meets Badd during his incarceration and the Edgeworths suddenly come up. Badd mentions a lead he has on Miles, who he believes was taken in by De Killer. The concept shocks Phoenix, who couldn't understand how his childhood friend could become a murderer. He decides to become a detective to help find his friend and figure out everything that's going on. Once he passes the exam, he finds Badd again and the detective agrees to take him on and mentor him as they follow Miles' trail.
