Reader's Birthday Surprise for Ace
| Pairing: Ace x Fem!Reader | Genre: Fluff | Post-Type: Drabble | Word Count: 670 |
Warnings: hmm, slightly suggestive towards the end if you squint...
Note: Happy Birthday Ace! I want to do little birthday drabbles like these for the characters I write for, so hopefully I can keep up with it! It's my first time writing for Ace, and I've been stuck writing headcanons for a while so if this sounds a little choppy, FORGIVE ME. I haven't written a drabble in a while NFJBEKABF.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Quiet giggles erupt from your lips as you lace your fingers with Ace’s and sneak him to the ships kitchen, doing your best to stay quiet and not wake up the rest of the crew. You felt silly, like a child again as you tiptoed through the halls and onto the deck, finding your way to the kitchen that was closed for the night.
“Where are we going?” Ace asks, confused by your sudden desire to sneak around with him.
“Shh no questions just follow along,” you whisper back, continuing through with your mini adventure.
The roughness of his hands felt nice in your grip, sending butterflies to your stomach. You still couldn’t believe you were dating the firefist Ace, you only hoped he’d like the surprise you prepared for him.
Upon slowly opening the kitchen’s door, praying silently that it wouldn’t creak as you did so, you were met with darkness. Letting go of Ace’s hand for a moment, you reach for the lighter on the counter and carefully lit a single lantern, hoping it wasn’t too bright.
You glance out the porthole from the kitchen; if your calculations were correct, it would be midnight soon, meaning the first of January was approaching–Ace’s birthday. You smile to yourself before turning back to your freckled man.
“Alright, close your eyes,” you command, walking closer to him and leading his hands over his eyes. “No peeking”
You see him smile at your antics, unsure of what you had planned, but excited to participate anyway, not a single complaint leaving his mouth.
Once you’re sure he’s not peeking, you scurry over to the cooler and take out your creation you spent all afternoon preparing for him. You place the small cake on the counter and place a few candles in it, lighting them up.
“Can I open my eyes yet? What are you doing, trying to kill me by lighting the room on fire? You know that won’t work on me since I’m literally made of fire, sweets” He jokes.
“Oh hush, open your eyes.”
As commanded, his hands fall from his eyes and he’s met with the soft glow of fire on top of a cake with the words ‘Happy Birthday Ace’ written messily on it.
“I know it’s not much. Thatch let me use his kitchen earlier, but I don’t really have that much experience with baking so it probably won’t taste good, but I still wanted to do something for you to celebrate the day you were brought into this world. I’m sorry if-”
You’re cut short from your rambling as Ace lifts you up onto the counter, standing between your legs as he cups your face and smashes his lips onto yours–a token of his appreciation for your efforts.
“I love it,” he says while pulling away, his forehead resting on yours. He couldn’t believe he met someone as incredible as yourself who aside from his brothers and crew, appreciated that he was alive and loved him. “And I love you, you didn’t have to do all this.”
You once again lace your fingers together, pressing soft kisses to his knuckles. “I love you too” You smile, feeling the heat rise to your cheeks. “I know I didn’t have to do this, but you deserve it. I wanted to do something nice for you!”
He laughs to himself, pressing one final kiss to your forehead before turning back to the cake.
“Then, shall we dig in? I’m starving for something sweet right now and as much as I could devour you, I’d love to try your cake,” He winks, earning him a light smack on the arm.
The cake wasn’t the best, but Ace still ate it all. He insisted on eating your symbol of love and refused to leave any for the rest of the crew. It was safe to say, your plan worked. It was a great start to Ace’s birthday and you had plenty more surprises left for him, but those would have to wait.

✧ CW: yandere character, stalking
Tumblr media
You'd never have guessed that General Mahamatra Cyno was such an avid fan of Genius Invokation TCG.
It came as a huge shock when you, waiting for an opponent to duel with, heard the all-too-familiar voice addressing you.
"May I join you for a game?"
That day, Puspa Café was bustling with patrons, as per usual. Still, you had managed to find yourself a seat on a secluded table by the corner, where you could comfortably wait for someone to join you. Despite being somewhat new to the game, you had quickly grown to love Genius Invokation TCG, and were now a regular customer here.
You watch, with wide eyes, as Cyno stands by your table with an expectant look. Immediately shaken out of your trance, you nod and, with bated breath, stare at him again as he takes a seat across you.
"Excuse me," Cyno says, before surveying your cards, picking up one to look at the back. It doesn't seem to bother him that you've not given him a single response yet.
"General M—"
"Cyno the Adventurer," he smoothly interjects, closely inspecting your card back, "I hope that you won't let my position waver your interest in my duel, but if it helps, you can just think of me as someone else. So while I'm here, please refer to me as such. You had this commissioned in Liyue, yes?"
"Yes..." you're not sure how he knew, but maybe Cyno was familiar with the artist's works, "But, adventurer...?"
He nods, "and you are...a poet traveling to find inspiration."
"A poet," you echo weakly, confusion heavy in your voice, "yes..."
"Before we begin, I'd like to give you some tips. You'd be better off using an artifact card than this weapon card. Also, the synergy between these cards won't be as good as these, and..."
Was this just a characteristic of a professional player? You're not sure how he managed to identify your go-to cards and analyze your usual strategy so quickly, but it didn't appear too strange that someone like Cyno was so quick to identify the flaws in your gameplay.
The duel itself was undeniably exciting. Cyno had cards you hadn't seen yet, cards, he told you, that were exclusive to Mondstadt. Even his card back was done by a famous illustrator based in Mondstadt. You were almost envious of his cards. However, when Cyno unsurprisingly won, he only frowned. Your mind raced for explanations. Was he disappointed in your play? Did he think you were holding back in fear of upsetting him? It would be awful if he had a bad impression of you just from a card game, and though he didn't strike you as someone to hold such views, you couldn't help but be cautious.
"Another game?"
After a considerable amount of time had passed, and three more games had ended with varying results, Cyno was finally ready to retire.
He clears his throat, "next week," he declares, "I'll be here again. Will you be available for another game?"
You mentally ran through your schedule. Next week...you didn't have anything planned as of yet. Regardless, how were you going to turn down a personal invitation from the General Mahamatra himself?
"No," you tell him, "then, I'll see you...?"
Cyno hums, looking deep in thought.
"Next week, I'll be the ex-leader of an Eremite camp. A fugitive seeking to reform his old ways. And you can be..." he trails off, instead giving you a gentle command, "surprise me."
You don't know what to think of him, really. He was a lot more eccentric than you had heard, but for the most part, he was...harmless. Ultimately, like the other players in the café, Cyno was just here to have fun. While you mull over the possibilities on your way home, you fail to realize a card from your deck had gone missing. It was one of the weapon cards that Cyno himself had advised you against using, and at the time, you hadn't noticed anything, so overwhelmed as you were by his presence, but he had pocketed it for himself. It would soon find itself a new home inside Cyno's own case, not that you would ever know.
It was only a small token taken to commemorate your first official meeting. Next time, Cyno was hoping to get his hands on a much better prize.

I have two commander decks. One is blue-green, led by Vorel of the Hull Clade, and focused around building up as many +1/+1 counters as possible on a single evasive creature. I love it on a philosophical level because all the art and flavor text is about the freedom and power of bodily transformation and, as a trans woman in the early stages of feminizing my body through hormones, I jive with that.
The other is a white-green, led by Sythis, Harvest's Hand, and focused around buffing creatures with auras, with a sub-theme of token generation. I love it on an aesthetic level because all the art is of elves and dryads and lady-knights, with a sprinkling of cute fey creatures, and it's all very lush and cottage core and divine-feminine, so basically my transition-goal mood-board as a commander deck.
I told all of this to a friend from my commander pod as I tried to decide which one to bring to our next game night, and after I got through all that florid description, he asked me, "Well, which one is better?" And that's when I had to admit that, in terms of actually winning the game, they're both utter shit.

One of the first things that got me and my brother into magic was buying two commander precons in 2015 - I got the new Boros one and he got the 2013 Marath commander deck. We were both very happy to see that with OTJ, we finally got an official X/X green elemental token for Marath's ability. Not sure if this is a "FYI" or "thank you" ask - probably both.
You’re welcome. : )

I PRESENT TO YOU: THE DUNGEON HORDE
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Horde mode is a cooperative mtg format. 2-3 players get 3 turns before the horde takes its first turn. The horde deck consists of 60 token and 40 nontoken cards. It reveals cards until a nontoken card is revealed. The horde has infinite mana. All revealed tokens enter play and the nontoken card is cast. All creatures the horde controls have haste and must attack if able. If the horde must make a decision it does so randomly, if it makes a target it cannot target itself or permanents it controls.
Players attack the horde back and damage dealt mills from the top of the horde deck. Players win when the horde mills out entirely.
I designed this horde as a dnd or dungeon based horde, as if players are delving into the dungeon itself. There is a diverse set of tokens with “mini boss” tokens with keywords like trample, regenerate, death touch, flying. There’s a number of effects requiring dice rolls. There’s also a number of iconic dnd monsters and effects in the horde deck itself.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As its dnd themed I’ve added a number of goodies to make games spicy!
First, players may select backgrounds from a random draft based on their deck’s colors. There’s four from each color picked to fit with the horde’s rules. Backgrounds are added to the command zone whether or not your commander has Backstory.
Tumblr media
I’ve also added The Undercity/Initiative to the game! In this format if you deal combat damage to the horde you Venture into the Undercity.
Tumblr media
Lastly I’ve added two treasure chests to the horde deck! These do not count as nontoken reveals BUT they do allow the players to do one of two things depending on the setup.
Tumblr media
Players may roll as if they opened a treasure chest and reap rewards and continue the turn as normal. OR. Up to 4 treasures are revealed for players to each draft one putting the card in their hand or onto the battlefield under their control.
Tumblr media
Some treasures require more powerful synergy. Some are just good on their own.
And that’s the dungeon horde! Fully playable, cooperative, with lots of bits and bobs to make games different.
My next project is to develop horde emblems. As players deal damage to the horde the horde gets additional reveals. I want to make emblems where the horde deck gets one reveal per emblem, giving a visual indicator on the power level of the horde. Then I want to make big bad evil guy emblems: special emblems themed around dnd villains like Strahd that enhance the horde deck for optional difficulty. I’ll post when made ^^

hey magic the gatheringers, ive been rebuilding my favorite edh decks and hyperfixating on them lately so i just wanted to make a pretty lil post about them offering them to anyone who wants to play em :) these are my favorite decks right now and ive just run through and adjusted the decklists of all of them in the last couple days so they're fresh and ready to perform <3
the first deck is Rocco Cast From Exile!
the third rework of this decklist with the new cards from CLU really cemented that this is my favorite deck i've ever made. Rocco, Street Chef plays kingpin to a unique Naya value pile built around playing cards from exile!
this deck is similar to Prosper, who is unfortunately the face of Cast From Exile-- but unlike Prosper, this commander and the other options for CFE payoffs you get in Naya are super interesting and cool :) you get [[Feldorn]], [[Pia Nalaar]], [[Quintorius Kand]], as well as fun cheapening effects like [[Liara Portyr]] and [[Tlincalli Hunter]] on top of the delightful cascade effects green gets!
you also get to play around with +1/+1 counters (Rocco might be the best commander of all time at like... putting +1/+1s on specific individual creatures honestly??) and the magic that is food tokens (which are getting stronger and stronger each passing set). furthermore, Rocco impulse draws for your opponents, which means you get to encourage them to make tough decisions! do they play their combo piece from exile, feeding your deck? (Rocco is so efficient that they will soon learn that the answer to that question is almost always no... but you can always pretend that you're playing group hug and giving them free cards until they figure that out!)
this deck gets a lot of mana and builds up a monstrous board state very quickly. as far as individual value pieces go, be on the lookout for [[Jaheria, Friend of the Forest]], [[Inspiring Statuary]], and [[Night of the Sweets' Revenge]] for ways to make an unreal amount of mana. [[Herd Baloth]] and [[Faldorn]] will get you tokens for every card played from exile, and i would say are the main things giving you a monstrous board. don't sleep on the cascaders and thieves either-- every extra card obtained from things like [[Bloodbraid Elf]] or the Etalis net you another Cast From Exile trigger!
Naya Cast From Exile is weird and awesome and I highly recommend playing and building in this design space :) there's a lot of Naya CFE cards that work but I cut from the deck, and they give us more cards and commanders for the archetype all the time. this is definitely my favorite deck i've ever made <3
the second deck i'd like to show off is my Oloro Control decklist!
i've always been the interaction player at the table. you might find that these decklists are a bit heavy on the interaction for you actually-- i truly believe disruption is like. so important. especially when you're playing for value rather than combos like i do ^_^
so here is my dedicated Esper Control decklist! Oloro is there to keep you topped off and to draw you cards-- by playing this deck it really does net you anywhere from 10-40 extra life in a given game in my experience just by playing him. and the card draw on Oloro is pretty insane, enabling you to find the necessary ramp and bombs to end the game after you've disrupted every combo at the table :) personally i don't like Oloro the character very much at all-- don't know why, but he's a little difficult for me to look at. i personally have a custom proxy that replaces Oloro with Grusha :3
this Control deck is all about gaining slow and steady value while ensuring the bad things aren't sent your way. there are some stax pieces here, but not very strict ones-- your goal is to remain innocuous while you get the mana and cards to play your bombs and your opponents hopefully go at each other. the bombs in question are things like [[Debt to the Deathless]], [[Expropriate]], [[Torment of Hailfire]], planeswalkers like [[Sorin Markov]], and creatures that amass you value quickly like [[Drogskol Reaver]] and [[Sunscorch Regent]]. you gain life, shut down your opponents, and force unwinnable situations or knock out opponents with big bombs. it's fun!
the third deck is Vadrok Inevitable Betrayal Combo!
Vadrok here is the final fruit of my obsession with the 0 cmc suspend cards I went through a few months back. after toying with pretty much ever one in turn, Vadrok is the one that stuck around because he plays so interestingly and truly warps your table's metagame if you bring him out enough times.
let's get into the weeds: the combo here is a pretty simple one-- Vadrok is one of (and the only legendary) engine that allows you to play cards from your graveyard without exiling them after, done by mutating. [[Inevitable Betrayal]] is a 0 mana cost blue spell that takes a creature from an opponent's deck and puts it onto the battlefield under your control. The combo, then, is a gradual one: use a spell to discard Inevitable Betrayal, and mutate onto Vadrok. each mutate plays Inevitable Betrayal for free, allowing you to cheat out an opponent's creature each time. this is strong.
the deck features a suite of tutors, a variety of ways to discard cards, and every mutate card in Jeskai (except the one whose mutate cost is six mana :P). the combo is surprisingly low to the ground and quick, allowing for turn one/two discards and turn three Vadrok mutates at times. however, it's often worth waiting to mutate Vadrok onto a creature with Hexproof to ensure little interruption as you swarm the board with your opponents' best hits.
this deck, of course, relies heavily on your opponents' decks then. which is why this deck is so metagame-warping-- even at more casual tables, you'll probably see your friends take their funny eldrazi and craterhoofs out of their decks because you're so prone to winning with them. personally, i find that delightful! i tend to cycle deck usage anyway, so it's cute to steal a bunch of things for a couple weeks, have my opponents edit their decklists to remove my hits, lose interest in the deck, and come back a couple months later and steal the good hits in their new decks, repeat :) its fun having a deck that warps metagames with its presence alone.
the final deck id like to talk about is my Silvar and Trynn Humans decklist!
mardu is delightful and for the longest time i couldn't find a mardu commander i ever wanted to build! finally though, i stumbled across these two :) the art on them is so gorgeous! i love ikoria.
this deck is very fun! the only typal deck on the list, humans is a very fun type to build around and you get access to so many bangers in mardu. this deck is all about building a board of as many humans as you possibly can, then sacking them all to put 17 +1/+1 counters on Silvar and start swinging for commander lethal. how that is done is different every game, with so many fun human pieces and interaction pieces that each game feels very distinctly different from the last more so than any of the other decks discussed on this post. furthermore, mardu offers my favorite interaction suite of all time, so it's always a pleasure to play with.
teehee anyway thats my decks ive been hyperfixating on! feel free to give em a try :) sqrrk!!

hi miss healed. you are unfortunately right about the dr who commander decks being great, I had a match with some friends playing the grixis villains a short while ago and loved it. Whats your favourite individual card from them? Personally I think Blink having its chapters out of chronology and the way the weeping angel tokens it makes reference not moving when a creature sees them is a beautiful piece of design as storytelling :)
there are so many unmitigated flavor triumphs in this set. weeping angel shuffling creatures into your library. the tremas master 'possessing' another creature you control. being able to kill adric. the fuckin. sycorax that can make your opponent discard their hand and draw a new hand is so fucking funny i lose my mind every time i think about it. but as a serious answer i thikn it has to be 'genesis of the daleks' or 'trial of a timelord' -- the sagas are my favourite part of this set i think and those two manage to use voting / choice mechanics in a way that's actually cool and not lame

HELLO ALL
today i will be talking to you about one of my more recent decks that has very quickly become one of my favorites!!
it is...
GANDALF THE WHITE POLYARMORY
now, this deck name might sound confusing. but its really quite simple. this is a mono white grouphug deck with the sole purpose of copying the etb of wedding ring to give one to the whole table and marry every player. the goal of the deck is to put everyone in the game into a polyamorous relationship!!
the rest of the deck is a mixture of typical group hug elements, such as shared card draw (secret rendezvous, howling mine, font of mythos) and general etb abuse (elesh norn mother of machines, panharmonicon) and when you combine these two aspects the deck helps out all players but can also effectively control the board by triple copying a meteor golem or loran of the third path!!
i havent had the chance to play this deck all that often but when i have played it it has some real killing power surprisingly. the main thing i realized playing this deck is that doubling or tripling your etbs gets out of hand fast. like obviously it does, but youll be surprised if you decide to play with it.
this deck is rather weighted on the artifact side. i couldnt find a large amount of legendary creatures that copy with gandalf so artifacts were the obvious choice. most of them draw cards on etb or add mana, while the rest copy etbs and are just general group hug cards. this deck could easily be changed to be much more competitive if you removed some of the group hug elements and added more interaction (most of my decks have an emphasis on fun and therefore the interaction might be lacking in some of them).
there are a few cards in this deck id like to talk about as overperformers. this deck does some silly things and these cards felt especially strong from my games with the deck-
eriette's charmed apple: this card when doubled with a panharmonicon type effect (aka your commander 👀) is disgusting. nobody expects the mono white deck to untap and steal their creatures for a turn, which results in turns where you steal the biggest creatures on board and swing for lethal on someone. i nearly killed my girlfriend this way out of nowhere in her life gain deck and it doesn't seem far fetched to do that most games. there is also some graveyard artifact recursion in this deck which allows you to loop this which, in the late game, really adds up.
master of ceremonies: this one is probably obvious to anyone who has played the card before, but this was my first time. if you stick this and no one kills it (which they aren't initially inclined to do) it just spits out so much value. you get three things every one of your upkeeps, whether that be three treasures (broken), three cards (broken) or three creature tokens (yay blockers!!) or some combination of the three. this adds up so fast and gives you a huge advantage for the small price of helping your opponents a bit.
tenuous truce: this card single handedly kept me in the gane by enchanting the player with the biggest board. its crazy what people will do when they get an extra card every turn. obviously gets worse the more people know about your deck cause one card a turn wont stop your average player from swinging at who they deem a threat, but still. its still really good and much better then it seems!!
as for how to play the the deck, its mostly stay alive till its you and one other player. you can do this by killing key targets with your etbs (this deck deals with artifacts and enchantments especially well) or getting people to believe you are not a threat cause you are feeding their card draw. this deck can very easily be ran over if you don't pull a board wipe for the creature decks or if you lose to something that you couldnt interact with cause you are mono white. thats just kinda the brakes. but this deck has more staying power then i ever gave it credit for when i built it.
in closing, this deck is probably around a 6 or so in power level and i wouldnt play this at a high power table but if you and your friends want to have fun then you should give it a try!! i got to marry most of the table in my first game with the deck and it was so satisfying, plus when everyone has a wedding ring the amount of card draw and life gain going around gets out of hand fast. especially if you have extra card draw effects out everyone can be drawing upwards of two cards every single turn lmao
(also dont tell anyone but this deck has another thing in it thats fun to do with your transfem friends, and that is jinxed choker. this is an artifact that is in the deck purely to joke about how whoever has control of it at any given time is collared up. you can marry and collar your friends with this deck and both will make your gay friends go nuts at the edh table lmao)

Looking at the Cabaretti Legends between 'Outlaws of Thunder Junction' and the 'Desert Bloom' commander deck, there's a few I'm looking forward to playing. To be honest though, where Yuma and Annie are concerned, they are highly costed. May be a little too much. although they both have considerable power/toughness.
And no matter how much I love the character of Yuma, he costs 8 mana if you don't have any lands in your graveyard. Though I do love his abilities as they go well with both Kirri and Hazezon.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Yes, Hazezon, Shaper of Sand is reprinted in the 'Desert Bloom' commander deck with new boy Kirri, Talented Sprout. So you can have Sand Warriors along with Plant creatures. And just in case you don't want to do just a Plant-based deck, Kirri also works with Treefolk ...for some reason. Personally, just for quicker play, I'd run these two instead of Yuma and Annie.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
But that's not all. We can't forget about Ghired or Bristly Bill. Ghired gives your nontoken creatures the ability to make token copies of creatures that enter the battlefield on each turn and Bristly Bill gives +1/+1 counters on landfall triggers.
As I've said, I'd rather play my Abzan colors but I do like these options and the 'Desert Bloom' deck looks exciting.

Hello. I’m glad you’re enjoying magic. What’s your favorite planeswalker character (so far)?
Definitely Saheeli! She's pretty, she commits token crimes, AND she's in my favorite colors! Definitely wanna build a commander deck around Saheeli the Gifted at some point
