THANK YOU TOKYO METRO!! Admittedly I have been pretty unhappy with Japan with all the #Misogyny and #xenophobia, especially with the #covid19 #pandemic. Still...today I want to hug you Japan! Yesterday my daughter lost her jacket that she was wearing for the first time in the subway station. When we were in the subway I noticed she wasn’t holding it anymore, but it was too late to go back. So this morning I went to ask if someone found it, thinking it was probably a lost cause. One phone call later I was sent to a bigger station where they keep all the lost and found items for my subway line. Not only did I get the jacket back, I also got a ticket to go back home for free! I thought I would probably have to fill out lots of paperwork before I could get the jacket back, but I merely had to leave my personal details and I was on my way! Why do Japanese people put salt in everything???

Alright, so I’m now in Tokyo, joining an exchange programme--the university is TUAT, fyi. I live here in a sharehouse with my exchange-mates (?). It’s actually like “kosan” in Indonesia but the facilities are fancier--they got a yoga/pilates/other workouts studio, a theatre room, a music studio, etc etc.

SO...

They’re gonna hold a welcoming party on 5 September, which is tonight, apparently, for us and some other new residences, so I think it’s gonna be a good idea to make something, whether it’s cupcakes or cookies. I’ve looked upon my pinterest to find one or two cute and easy recipes. After thinking and contemplating all night long--lol no, kidding--I decided to make this and/or this. So, I bought the ingredients needed on friday.

It’s finally Saturday afternoon when I was about to make the sweets. I made it with my friend, Tyffani. We decided to make the mini cakes first because I think it’s gonna be easier. It all went well--the measuring, the mixing, and all. Well, not that well actually. We got confused when it came to bake the cakes. THE OVEN IS ALL IN JAPANESE CHARACTER GOSH THERE’S NO WAY I CAN READ WHAT BUTTON DO I HAVE TO PUSH??? So, yeah, I asked other residence there, who is apparently has lived longer in the house than me. She helped me but... the oven is still not working!!! Alright, no need to be all panicked and stuffs. There are some Japanese people in the lobby and then we asked them. Long story short, after all those oven-with-japanese-character-buttons madness, the cakes can be baked and looked all nice and smelled really good. Yaaaayyy~~~~

TASTING TIME

The Japanese people who helped me out are still in the kitchen so I told them to just take some and try those cakes. And, like what a baker will normally do after baking some cakes, I tried one as well. And the surprise began...

THE CAKES ARE SALTY OMG WTH THOSE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE SWEET?????

Yeah. Okay. It tasted weird. But like Japanese will normally do, they said that it tasted nice and delicious. Omg feel bad :( Sorry, Mai-san :(

*sigh*

With all those disappointments, I tidied up the processing table. When I was on it, I accidentally put my hand into the flour. And idk why, the first reflect I had was to lick my hand and... the second surprise... is...

THE FLOUR IS SALTY WHAT THE ACTUAL F*CK????!?!?!??!!

*long deep sigh*

Okay. No wonder. Yeah. Of course. And so I tasted the butter and it was salty as well. Yeah. Whatever. I’m just gonna make some so-called-buttercream (but it was actually weird as well since I have no confectioner sugar and the food processor worked really badly that it actually didn't work like it actually had to be, you know, processing foods, make it all nice and smooth whatever). But since the buttercream was also weird, I decided to top it with a piece of oreo biscuit. OREO FTW!!!!!!!

So, yeah, oreo became my savior all hail oreo~~~

But let me ask once again:

WHY DO JAPANESE PUT SALT IN EVERYTHING?????????
