Just curious on your thoughts because I love your blog so much! I have so much trouble watch the end of Buck and Tommy’s first date (the early part is slight awkward but also adorable) - Tommy just seems so out of character those last few minutes compared to the very other scene we see him in (especially scenes with Buck). Do you think some of that was a little bit of self preservation in his part? Like it’s so obvious he is so into Evan and wants to get to know him more - and then he’s worried about pressuring him or that he came on to strong so he ends up being kind of a dick for a few minutes. Just curious on your thoughts! I feel like every other scene Buck and Tommy are in together Tommy is so sweet and goofy and a bit smitten and protective! I sooo need some more “relationship” scenes to see them being all adorable together!! Hope this wasn’t to rambly and again enjoy your blog a ton!
Hii! Not rambly at all, and thank you for the love!
[This answer is partially based on Lou's cameos and his own background for the character Tommy.]
I think you hit the nail right on the head.
Self-preservation.
I only differ from your view because I don't feel like it was out of character for Tommy. As an audience, it can feel that way because we've only seen Tommy through Buck's eyes. And that view of him is that he is confident, cool, and handsome... guy has a cleft...
But, Tommy's been hurt in the past by friends, family, and past relationships.
We can see Tommy's face in the "hot chicks" scene, and the guy is hurt. Not only because he was literally shoved back into the closet but also because I think he really likes Buck and this is the first person he's pursued since his last break-up.
And that's hard, isn't it? To put yourself out there again, testing those waters only to find out you might have gotten your hopes up a little too high?
Then tack on the fact that Buck is nervous and clearly terrified of Eddie finding out they're on a date (according to Tommy's POV)
That had to hit Tommy hard that he 1: really likes someone who potentially will hide any potential relationship they might have going forward and 2: wondering if he's the asshole picking a public place. Did he unintentionally pressure Buck to come out earlier than he wanted? Or if he even wanted to...
That's a lot to deal with in a very small amount of time, let alone a first date.
I actually like that Tommy did what he did because it put the ball in Buck's court and thankfully, Buck took his shot.
