Hi, I was wondering if you know what music John was a fan of in the late 70’s? I’m aware of him being excited about the B52’s, and I’m assuming he liked David Bowie and Elton John’s music in part because they were his friends in addition to obviously being talented. And I think I read once that Julian turned him onto Queen but tbh that may be me misremembering a fanfic lol I just wonder if there’s anything out there that describes what John’s music tastes was in those days or whether he preferred to stick with his favorite classics; early rock and roll, girl groups ect. Like what did he think about the punk scene in NY?? Or the close harmonies a la Fleetwood Mac that dominated the charts? Just things I think about haha.
Hi, thanks for the question. I know that I skipped through a book called John Lennon: 1980 playlist by Tim English before, that may be a good source for you. Here's some random info, that I remembered where to look up. I think Julian introducing John to Queen comes from the SPIN magazine interview in '75:
[Julian] likes Barry White and he likes Gilbert O’ Sullivan. He likes Queen, though I haven’t heard them yet. He turns me on to music. I call him and he says, “Have you heard Queen?” and I say “No, what is it?” I’ve heard of them. I’ve seen the guy … the one who looks like Hitler playing a piano … Sparks? I’ve seen Sparks on American TV. So I call him and say, “Have you seen Sparks? Hitler on the piano?” and he says, “No. They are alright. But have you seen Queen?” and I say “What’s Queen?” and then he tells me. His age group is hipper to music … at 11 I was aware of music, but not too much.
But then there is also an anecdote, I think by Tony Barrow, that John didn't want to sign Queen to Apple years earlier? However that may be a lie, or John just didn't remember.
Yoko gifted John a jukebox for his birthday in '78 and apparently John filled it with the old music he liked. Elliott Mintz says there was quite some Bing Crosby. And I remember John also putting some new song by Dolly Parton in there.
"Yoko gave him this old-fashioned jukebox and John stocked it with Bing Crosby records. People kind of expected him to have rock 'n' roll records in there, but it was almost totally Crosby stuff. There were 3 songs which John played over and over. I still remember them. They were Crosby with a jazz quartet from the 50's, I think. He would banter and talk in the songs and John thought that was just the end. The songs were Whispering, I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and Write Myself a Letter and Dream a Little Dream of Me. Yeah, those were the songs, I can still see John listening to them." - Elliott Mintz
“The one modern song I remember him listening to was ‘The Tide Is High’ by Blondie, which he played constantly. When I hear that song, I see my father, unshaven, his hair pulled back into a ponytail, dancing to and fro in a worn-out pair of denim shorts, with me at his feet, trying my best to coordinate tiny limbs.” - Sean Lennon
One night we were playing at Max's (Kansas City) in New York City, and I was waiting for everyone to leave the club so I could go back in and pick up my gear. We were sitting in the van waiting and John Lennon and Ian Hunter from Mott the Hoople came staggering out and looked over. John Lennon saw it was me and stuck his head in the window. He was kind of drunk and stuck his face right against mine and went 'yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah' because he recognized it (Devo's song Uncontrollable Urge) as being an updating of She Loves You. That was one of my most exciting moments ever. - Mark Mothersbaugh on John coming to a DEVO gig in '77
PB: John, what is your opinion of the newer waves? Lennon: I love all this punky stuff. It's pure. I'm not, however, crazy about the people that destroy themselves. Playboy interview, 1980
I like pop records. I like Olivia Newton-John singing "Magic" and Donna Summer whatever the hell she'll be singing. I like ELO singing "All over the World". I can dissect it and criticize it with any critic in the business...But without any thought I enjoy it! That's the kind of music I like to hear. - John
John Lennon raced into Yoko Ono’s home office in the mammoth old Dakota building with a copy of Donna Summer’s new single, “The Wanderer.” “Listen!” he shouted to us as he put the 45 on the record player. “She’s doing Elvis!” I didn’t know what he was talking about at first. The arrangement felt more like rock than the singer’s usual electro-disco approach, but the opening vocal sure sounded like Donna Summer to me. Midway through the song, however, her voice shifted into the playful, hiccuping style Elvis had used on so many of his early recordings. “See! See!” John shouted, pointing at the speakers. The record was John’s way of saying hello again after five years. [...] It was just weeks before his death in December of 1980, and his playing the Summer record was an endearing greeting -- and one that was typical of John. Of the hundreds of musicians I’ve met, John was among the most down-to-earth. Corn Flakes with John Lennon (And Other Tales From a Rock ‘n’ Roll Life) by Robert Hilburn
"I'm aware of ... Madness. "Don't do that. Do this." (As on the spoken word intro to "One Step Beyond".) I think that is the most original thing actually because it's so peculiar. ... Out of all that mob I think that was one of the most original sounds. Very good drumming, very good bass and all of that." Andy Peebles interview
And things I don't have quotes for right now: I remember Bob Gruen had given John some video compilation of punk bands, that John enjoyed watching. In one of the last interviews John said Hungry Heart by Bruce Springsteen was a great song. There are the albums John asked Fred Seaman to buy on his shopping lists. Some are printed in The John Lennon Letters (Though I'm not sure that means he liked them, but at least was interested in.) Lot's of Bob Dylan talk in the diaries and parodies. Many anecdotes about reggae bands. In the Double Fantasy studio recording John references quite some songs and artists, when he tells the musicians what they are aiming for in the songs.

Born in Miami, Florida; however, raised in Bed-Stuy, Brooklyn, Roxie Roker studied drama at Howard University along side Toni Morrison, actress Zaida Coles, stage director and playwright Shauneille Perry, and actor Graham Brown; all of whom were members of the university's theatre troupe, the Howard Players.
Her professional career with the Negro Ensemble Company was a huge success. She won an Obie Award in 1974 and was nominated for a Tony Award for her portrayal of Mattie Williams in The River Niger.
Roxie Roker was a reporter on WNEW-TV in New York in the 1970s and hosted a public affairs show for the station known as “Inside Bed-Stuy,” dealing with events in the Brooklyn neighborhood.
After having her breakout role as Helen Willis on hit sitcom “The Jeffersons,” she appeared in guest starring roles on many other hit shows from the 1970s through the 1990s, including "Stone in the River”, “Punky Brewster”, “Hangin' with Mr. Cooper”, “A Different World”, “Murder, She Wrote”, “The Love Boat”, “227”, “Fantasy Island”, and ABC Afterschool Specials.
Roxie Roker pushed boundaries and was known for being a children’s advocate, as a member of the Inter-Agency Council on Child Abuse and Neglect. She was cited by the city of Los Angeles for her community work.

2024 APRIL POEM-A-DAY CHALLENGE: DAY 17 ~ NOT COUNTRY
NOT COUNTRY © 2024 G. Smith (BMI) =================== If it ain’t got a banjo, Nor steel guitar, And you can’t two-step to it, You won’t go far. If it don’t tell a story, That makes you laugh or cry, Then it’s not C-O-U-N-T-R-Y.
It’s not country, If it’s got no soul, It’s not country, If it’s rock-n-roll. It’s not country, If the backbeats funky; It’s not country, If it’s Mohawk punky.
It there ain’t no Stetson, Nor pair Tony Lamas; Or sad, sad drinking song, With hung-over drama; If there ain’t no blue jeans, With holes at the knee, Then it’s not C-O-U-N-T-R-EEE
It’s not country, If it’s got no soul, It’s not country, If it’s rock-n-roll. It’s not country, If the backbeats funky; It’s not country, If it’s safety-pin punky.
Alan Jackson, Brooks and Dunn, George Jones and Strait - can’t beat ‘em, Son. Willie and Waylon and Johnny and Kris; Patsy and Dolly, and Loretta – country music bliss.
If it ain’t got heart, If it ain’t got tears, If it ain’t got Mama, And it ain’t got beers. If it ain’t got trains and rain And lonesome pain, Well, then it’s plain to see, It might be music, But it’s not C-O-U-N-T-R-EEE It might be music, But it’s not country.

Listen, a core part of being in BCC is having history with William, minus Wheeler. I know Adria did have a little bit of history with William. But the fact that Tony refused to do any research into any of these wrestlers before aligning them makes me mad.
Anyway, my point is if Khan knew how to book he would have put CM Punk in BCC months ago. Everyone forgets how much history Punky and William have together and its infuriating

Alright! The official announcement for the Clone Relationships Appreciation Week is here! You can tell it’s official because I’m using proper capitalization and punctuation! Amazing!
Anyway, so here’s the official details. It will be held in the first week of September, which is from September 3rd to September 9th. The themes for each day will be as follows:
Day ONE: Favourite Moment. Any moment! Between any clone pairing! You can even pick a 2+ clone scene for this one if you wish. Or a cloneswap. The possibilities just like the clones are endless!
Day TWO: Favourite Physical Interaction. This prompt is it’s own separate day simply because it deserves to be. The technology to make Two Actual Tatiana’s touch each other is seriously so mindboggling that I had to focus a day for it. Whether it’s something as “small” as a clone passing another clone an object or as big as stabbing each other in the leg, tell us your favourite!
Day THREE:  Lyrics and Quotes. Are there any song lyrics or quotes from literature that remind you of a certain clone/clone dynamic? Or of a specific clone-centric scene? Or maybe an Entire Song that just inspires you to the ballpit and back that you want to make an entire vid out of. Go for it!
Day FOUR: Fan Works Appreciation. Got a favourite clone/clone-centric fic? A piece of fan art that just blows you away? A fan vid? This is your day to gush! Make your own post and link us to the original post, or find the original post and reblog it with your own comments underneath or in the tags!
**for this day, I want to stress the importance of linking the original post/source. This is a day to appreciate your favourite fan works, not to claim them as your own. If you’re making an appreciation, be sure to include a link and, if they have one, their tumblr URL.
Day FIVE: Favourite AU. What world outside of OB do you just love seeing the clones in? Do you have a soft spot for highschool AUs? Enemies to friends to lovers? Or if not an AU, is there a specific headcanon or trope you just absolutely can’t get enough of? Or perhaps all of the above!
Day SIX:  Fix-It. Was there a dynamic that you felt just needed A Little Bit Extra attention? A specific moment? A scene? An episode? Something that was just a little odd or OOC? A scene that happened off-camera that you want to fill-in? Or perhaps a meeting between two clones that definitely Should Have Happened but didn’t? Here’s your chance to fix it! As this is an “appreciation week”, please keep criticisms within context and focus mainly on positivity! :)
Day SEVEN: Free Choice. Anything you want to talk about is fair game!  Perhaps something that didn’t quit fit the above prompts, or if you just want to expand on anything from the previous days, this is the day to do it! also ngl i did get lazy, thank you to @punky-monkey for giving my lazy ass this idea
This is a week that celebrates Leda clone/clone ships across the OB ‘verse, whether alive or dead, screentime or not (aka, most of the Euroclones). Because it spans such a broad range of content, we will be using a general tag, #clone relationships week so that everyone who’s participating can find each other!
Other rules!
1) In addition to the general #clone relationships week, please tag your posts with the Orphan Black tag, the clones involved with the relationship and the relationship itself. We want to produce content for these clone relationships! Fill up those tags!
2) Please reblog this post! It’s pretty last minute, but there’s still time to signal boost and get people in on this!
3) Have fun! Be positive, build each other up, reblog posts with tags, send nice messages. Follow each other! Engage in discussions and inspire each other. Clone Club is a beautiful fandom full of nice, heartwarming people, so this last rule shouldn’t be a problem in the slightest. :)
To my support crew, @punky-monkey (tagging you again bc i can <3), @andrxmedas, @coshayphinelove (who i also pulled inspiration from re: their shay appreciation week), @geekspiralling, @orphanbeige, and @valiantprincess thank you guys so much! This idea would have just sat in the back of my brain without much thought but you helped me get it rolling. :)

Hello Hello Hello!
Welcome to ‘Smash The System!- A DHMIS Askblog’.
Basically, you can ask any and every character, yet the priority / main characters will be listed here! :
Shrignold ( antag )
Tony & Sketch ( neutral? )
Yellow guy & Special one ( protags )
The Shadow ( antag )
The people of Clayhill ( Mrs Grenald, Big Ian, Mayor Pigface. This includes Colin. )
Mean steve ( antag )
So in this au, this is set after the main DHMIS series, in the town of Clayhill. Mean Steve - the key man, locks thewhole of Clayhill up with no place else to go. This includes Colin, a lad who used to be a teacher, yet turned for the better. Mayor pigface, the towns former mayor, has been locked up, yet Steve created a mirage to make the townspeople think he went missing. This includes Red Guy, who became (actually) lost while looking for the mayor. His friend, Duck has also gone missing. He was last seen in a restaraunt, which has been rumoured to hold people hostage, this is mainly due to the rather odd managers / stage singers of the restaurant, The Healthy Band, who swear they have nothing to do with it.
Meanwhile, a girl is escaping her past. Special One, who we call Speck for short, is fleeing from the land of love, which the evil Cult Of Malcom is homed. Shrignold, or Prince Shrignold, the leader of this cult, has been trying tirelessly to tear everything Speck has away from her, and feeding her misinformation about almost anything she ever knew - especially Love. Speck used to be a kind girl, who would sit in the park and make daisy chains every day. But one day, she went missing- nobody knew where she was- expet her herself and Shrignold. Shrignold brainwashed Speck, and turned her into one of his minions.
After finally realising what he was doing to her amongst many others, Speck decided to flee. With the help of Red guy, who was in his trek to find Mayor Pigface, she managed to flee to Clayhill, shortly before Mean Steve locked it up. She runs into Yellow Guy one day- a familiar face yet she couldn’t put her finger on how she remembers him. They both encounter Fizzy, a punk who seems aggressive but really is friendly. He introduces them to Fizzy Milk, a homemade drug used to make them see the reality of the world. Being naive, they both take the liquidised drug, turning them into ‘cool’ kids like Fizzy. They both soon want something, and that thing is revenge. Speck needs to make Shrignold see what he’s doing is wrong, and Yellow Guy needs to find his friends- and the teachers who once tormented him - 2 of these being Sketch And Tony. Both the teachers managed to get into Clayhill by chance and skill, and both try to make off with the children. However, after taking the drug, Yellow and Speck fight back. Soon enough, the teachers give up and end up joining forces with them to defeat the Prince of Love, and set the cultists free from him ( and Malcoms ) rule.
The Shadow, a side effect of the drug, is a shadow ( never woulda guessed ) Who torments the drug- taker. Who this shadow really is is a mystery to the taker, yet Sketch and Tony know something the kids dont.
That, you will soon find out.
Will the good turned- bad guys and 2 punky kids defeat the evil cult of love, and find their lost friends?
Just wait and find out! Questions are open! You can ask anything to any possible dhmis character EXEPT DUCK , including mainly wakey wakey characters. I will be doing no nsfw.
Happy Asking everyone!
