Cuckoo-Vipers Continued
Based off @muffinlance’s Cuckoo-Vipers fic(I am falling down a muffinlance rabbit hole and it is *fun*.
Asagao, named for the morning, rises early.
She isn’t sure what’s going on. Everybody’s bustling around all fast, but not fast like they do for feasts, or when Scary-Fire-Man is upset. None of the nice servants came when she called, only a guard who shoved her into a closet.
It’s dark in the closet. Asagao breathes, and the fire inside of her flares in and out with each breath.
She’s young, to start firebending. Only four. Mommy says it’s something to be proud of, but Dad always looks a little sad when he talks about it. One of the nice servants says that Cousin Azula started firebending young too.
The closet door opens. Asagao shrieks and backs away.
There is a girl standing in the doorway. She has a hairpin in her topnot. It’s shiny. There is blue fire in her hands.
... Asagao has only ever heard about one person who can bend blue fire.
“Cousin Azula?” she whispers
Azula raises an eyebrow. “Yes. Who are you?”
Asagao crosses her arms. “I’m your cousin! What are you doing here? Dad said you got banished.”
Azula hesitates. “I did,” she said. “But now I’m back. And I have some stuff to do, so if you don’t mind--” she turns to go.
Asagao grabs onto the end of her robes. “No! I wanna go with you!”
“Do you want to kill the Fire Lord?” Cousin Azula says. “Because that’s what I’m going to do.”
Asagao looks up at her adoringly. Cousin Azula is so cool. And Scary-Fire-Man is mean. “Does that mean that /you/ would be the Fire Lord?”
“Why yes?” Cousin Azula replied.
Asagao grins. “Can we meet Cousin Zuko too! I like turtleducks, just like he does!”
“I think that could be arranged,” Azula replies. She picks Asagao up with one hand, and summons fire in the other. “Let’s go.”
This is the /best day of Asagao’s life/.

The topnote of a fic I found by filtering in the noncon warning:
"please remember that this is fiction and no actual rape happens here; just dirty talk about it. all of it are consensual and both koo and his father enjoys it."
And in the notes, not the summary, so I had to actually open the fic to find out it wasn't what I was looking for.
--
This use of 'koo' tells you everything you need to know about the fic.

ELDO Fils De Dieu
Tried Fils De Dieu for the first time today and it's very interesting! Listed notes: Lime, ginger, coriander leaves, coconut JE, rice, shiso, bergamot, vetiver, castoreum, musk, amber, leather
The topnotes are very realistic lime, coriander, and lemongrass. Not much ginger to me, but I don't usually read fresh ginger notes as ginger. It quickly gives way to a more abstracted round and powdery jasmine heart with coconut milk and rice powder around the edges. The jasmine smells crushed and boiled. There's something reminiscent of lotion or soap about it, though I wouldn't say it's aldehydic-soapy. This stage lasts for a few hours and feels like it constantly shifts in emphasis. There are peeks of leather and something cool and metallic through the powder. At about 2 hours in, it's a jasmine-tinged musky vanilla and coconut milk pudding, smooth and rich in texture. At about 4 hours, it's a musky spiced amber, on the smooth and thin side and not particularly round, rich, or chewy. Despite many people saying this smells like a savory curry, this is on the mildly sweet side to me, and its aromatic notes don't read savory.
I've seen this compared to Shalimar, and it does have the bright and cacophonous topnotes over a powdery amber-vanilla base. What defines Shalimar to me, however, is the sheer thickness of it. Shalimar really smacks you over the head, whereas Fils de Dieu is characterful but not insistent in the same way. Not to mention the crazy smoke and rubber aspect of Shalimar, which Fils de Dieu's unusual but friendly heart notes don't compare to. The mood is very different. (By the by, the milky and round jasmine reminds me a lot of Mitsouko EDP!)
I really enjoyed testing this one. It's cheerful and has a lot going on. I wish those lovely topnotes lasted longer, though I know that citrus and herbs famously do not. I also wish the rice was stronger, more realistic, and steam-damp instead of powdery. I wouldn't mind a more realistic coconut milk note either. I truly thought I would smell more literally of curry. I have to spend more time with this to discover how I feel about it, but I'm at least intrigued.

I think if/when azula heals and is free from her identity as the warrior princess / child soldier / beloved royalty, she should cut off her hair and go short mode, renounce the whole honor and topnots things. No more worrying about hairs out of place, no more golden symbols of her status perched on her head. Let zuko grow his hair long and worry about honor. Let azula find a new sense of purpose far away from all that. Idk.
This exactly. Let this bitch know some peace and walk away from Omelas. She has the right

Beta Headcanons
• Okay so with my beta characters because omegas are the top of society the persons who are more omega aligned or Omega passing will be more favored in society but this is more of a reach when it comes to arguments in as once you’re not an alpha you aren’t screwed 😌
• Betas scents have one core smell, so think of perfumes and how they are described, so with alphas and omegas will have topnotes, heart notes and base notes to their smell while betas will just have top notes alone. Their scents lean between sweet and more musky depending on how they biologically present eg. feminine betas tend to be more sweet and masculine more musky.
• Some Betas may have the alpha voice trait but these only work when an alpha is absent in an emergency
• They have an innate need to serve and perform acts of service towards their packmates / people who are close or familiar to them.
• Most beta end up in mediating type professions: judges, advisors, principals, secretarial positions even lawyers in some cases.
• Can easily have command of the room with their voices alone, a natural type of sensuality or husky tone in their voice due to them having a natural calmness to their temperament that is a direct link to their dynamic. It is rare to see a raging beta as they are planners can will charm or talk their way out of any sticky situation.
• When it comes to their version of nesting they find comfort in tall open area where they can overlook their surroundings and be seen by their mates. So think tall hammocks or loft areas in houses
• Genital wise it’s either or in this AU. so like I said in my alpha head canons list; babies will get the assigned male or female at birth then get a hormone test to see if they’ll be more fem or masc presenting .
• In most cases it’s funny for people to show their baby photos just to compare how right or wrong their parents may have been if in the off chance they decide to not do the hormone test to be 100 percent sure how their child may physically present. Literally think of the most masculine looking beta I’m talking bodybuilding type body only to show their baby and childhood photos of them in frilly dresses and pastels . I honestly think this was the case for Sero and Sato and depending on how I feel Kirishima 🧐
• While I don’t like writing angst and implementing heavy triggering themes in my literature, my friend pointed out that it would be easy to interweave the painful aspects of a person discovering that they could be trans and while that is a possibility, I won’t be doing that under the sole premise of me viewing fiction as an escape from reality and I just want people to be happy reading and not be triggered with body dismorpia. So I’ll focus the sadness in other areas respectfully.
• Betas tend to have fertility issues within both parties. Compared to omegas and alphas who would have a wide window of fertility with heats and ruts that build in intensity as the days pass , betas have shorter periods and have the highest risk to go completely primal in that window as it happens so sudden. In other words, the most “pre-heat/rut” they would get is a solid two hour warning at least and 24 hours at the very most.
• This would give reason for betas to have a lower fertility rate compared to other dynamics. This also in some societies leave them to be infantilized to an extent as their sudden heat or rut occurring, consent in most cases tend to have some dubious factors.
• Therefore when betas go into their cycle in public its almost an unspoken law for an them to be escorted to the nearest hospital or rut/heat house if they happed to be unaccompanied. However as expected this is embarrassing to them so this is a very rare occurrence
• In some countries, unmated / bonded partners of betas need actual written and signed consent in order for them to spend a heat together
• Female betas have periods which is a massive contribution to their low fertility issues as omegas bodies absorb their un-fertilized eggs like every other mammal that walks this god forsaken planet. However to balance out this natural nuisance the most they feel is a mild discomfort.
• This also can be the source of devastating angst, imagine a beta couple trying their absolute hardest to conceive only for Aunt Flo to visit .
• Alphas have physical strength , omegas are fast as hell and betas can almost predict when danger is near. Everyone would sense the threat but will look to the beta to know whether or not to let the alphas stay and fight or make the omegas gather the pups and disappear into the night.
• Omegas are long term strategists but betas know how to react in the moment. It’s a good idea to have both dynamics in competitive fields. The omega lays out the plan and the beta makes sure it stays on track, by any means necessary.
• With that being said, betas and omegas tend to have a different type of dependence with one another. Alphas have to earn their respect among the dynamics. Betas will automatically refer to the closest omega for anytype of assistance an unknown alpha will always be asked last and even then most betas would rather navigate their problem themselves.
• When I said alphas have to work hard socially,I seriously meant it.
• Betas are considered to be nomads until they find a pack or person they wish to bond with and stay with forever. So its seen as a huge flex if you are seen in public with a beta with a mating mark of any kind.
• Adding on to the previous point omega/beta relationships are common and both parties are widely accepted while alpha/beta monotonous relationships are strange and people will actively ask where their omega is or will try to set the couple up with an omega they may know.
• I want to make it clear that betas also have a place in society compared to other universes that basically describe them as regular humans opposed to an established dynamic
———————————————————————————
That’s all i can think of for the betas for the time being 🤷🏻‍♀️ i want to have a decently balanced amount of ideas for all the dynamic in order for any potential fic i write not to focus on the main two omegas and alphas, especially how im placing omegas at the top of the social hierarchy

My Journey Through Hyrule
So I wanted to write up something about my experience playing Tears of the Kingdom, because everyone's story in an open-world game is going to be inherently different, especially if you choose to lean into the idea of telling a story.
Spoilers for the big twist in the geoglyph memories cause I gotta talk about it.
0. Introduction
So what was my story?
Some backstory: It's useful to know that back when I played Breath of the Wild for the first time, I headcanoned Link as a trans woman because gestures broadly at BotW's entire thematic apparatus. In particular, I focused on the theme of rebuilding your identity from scratch, and the anxiety of reconnecting with someone who was incredibly important to you when you're not sure if you're the same person anymore.
So in the implied 5 or so years between Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, I imagine Link would have begun transitioning, even if this isn't reflected onscreen (barring mods). I think she would have been very close with Zelda as someone who understood and accepted her. I suspect they would have been able to bond over the idea of breaking free from one's imposed identity.
My Link was also pretty cautious and a planner, wanting to be highly prepared with anti-Guardian armaments before facing Ganon to avoid another Calamity. (IRL, I definitely overprepared, but that's okay, it was fun). I also really enjoyed taking notes and making hand-drawn maps of different regions during my playthrough, so you may imagine that during TotK, my Link is doing that, too. Also speculating wildly about all the unnamed bits of ruins and trying to reconstruct the archaeology of ancient civilizations.
The Sky
So, starting off, it's pretty delightful that the first item of clothing you can put on in the sky is a skirt.
Okay, it's the lower half of a tunic, but you can actually wear it as a skirt if you choose the right top, one that doesn't hang down too much. These tops are: the climbing shirt, the sheikah top, the rubber armor (which looks very punk), the frog top, and, surprisingly, the flame-proof armor. So my fashion choices throughout the game were largely based around these tops and the skirt. My favorite outfit was pink Gerudo topnot + pink climbing shirt + skirt. I generally went for a pink and black aesthetic, with occasional reds. I wore pants only when I needed extra shin protection.
I'm sure I spent my time in the Great Sky Island the way everybody spends it, exploring and worrying about Zelda.
Among the mysteries of the sky: a gold-and-white dragon above the Sky Islands, filled with light. A photograph of the dragon, taken from the back of a Wing device, became one of my treasured possessions. I didn't understand what the dragon was or what it meant for my journey, but I could appreciate its majesty as I had the dragons of the world below.
Dropping down to the formerly bottomless swamp to go to Lookout Landing was a thrill, and it was delightful to catch up with everyone there. There was a real sense of comraderie as we made plans to fight back against a smarter, more tactical Ganon with an army of clever monsters.
Following the game's encouragement to do the Rito quest first, I began by exploring the western side of the map. I had the idea that I would explore everything in the west before heading east, but in practice, I found myself needing to go to Kakariko and Hateno pretty early on for their resources. Still, I was able to save some areas in the game, like Eldin and Zora's Domain, for later on. I chose to do the regional phenomena in the exact reverse order that I had done the Divine Beasts; therefore my TotK order was Rito -> Gerudo -> Goron -Zora, which turned out well.
2. Into Hyrule
Link's travels were a rush of exploration as she tried to find out what had happened in Hyrule. I would rush into new areas to find towers and geoglyphs and piece together my understanding of what was going on, starting with the west and moving to the east. All the while, I was exploring local sky islands and the Depths beneath each nearby chasm. I was also taking pictures for the Hyrule Compendium. I hadn't done this for Breath of the Wild, but in Tears of the Kingdom, it became a fun travelogue of my journey that I could reminisce on when I saw each entry. I think Link, for her part, was fascinated by the new plants and creatures in Hyrule and the ecological changes that had happened to the existing ones (durians were not in season). I'm sure she also tried to piece together the history and geography of the Depths.
My first encounter with a set of Gloom Hands took place at the old Exchange ruins near the road to Hebra. I'd been expecting to explore a familiar ruin, maybe with some monsters camping there, and was NOT prepared for what awaited me inside. I fled, but soon discovered the landscape was lousy with the damn things. Outside Hateno, I managed to catch a glimpse of one of Ganon's phantoms before having to run from his blade. Link developed a theory that these were the dark spirits who had been animating the Guardians during the Calamity. It would explain a great deal.
Heading north to the Great Forest, I found the last of the geoglyphs on the side of Death Mountain, and the terrible truth about what had happened to Zelda fell into place. I stood there stunned into silence in Akkala. The fact that these were her memories, and so Link was witnessing her own visuals and sensations during her transformation, had to be devastating on multiple levels. She flew above me, and I tried to reach her, but couldn't. She was already too far away.
The next time I saw her, passing by the Tabantha sky islands, I flew to her. I couldn't find a way to take the sword from her without hurting her, so instead I sat down on her shoulders and tried to give her some kind of comfort. I didn't know if it was possible, but I had to try. I had to try. I stayed with her for four days and four nights, tracking her progress around Hyrule, eating and sleeping atop her back. Only when she'd done a full loop and returned to the Tabantha sky did I finally return to my quest.
At least I was among dear friends for my next journey, catching up with Riju and Bularia in Gerudo Town to slay the Gibdo Queen.
3. A New Approach
Around this point, I became frustrated with my approach to the game. As with Breath of the Wild, teleporting wildly around the map and doing multiple quests at the same time was less satisfying than overcoming obstacles to move through the world. I craved a stronger narrative through a sense of place. I resolved to stay in one place as much as I could. I could go to areas above or below, just not outside of the area I was currently exploring. I could teleport when starting a new expedition or hop over to visit some useful resource (the dye shop, the stores, the Great Fairies), but not otherwise. I justified this by deciding that Link only had so much "juice" in the Purah Pad teleportation system, and so was conserving it unless there was some need.
This worked exactly as hoped. I found myself really enjoying and exploring each region. I still had a tendency to do an initial "foray" into each new area before running off to another, but when I came back to it, I was committed.
I caught up with the engineers of Tarrey Town and glided south to rescue the refugees of Lurelin village from the invading monster army. I spent a great deal of time in Necluda, mapping out the Necluda Depths in detail (including by hand) and pondering their geographic features. I was also fascinated by a strange factory, with a jeweled machine resting at the center, and outposts that seemed to refer to arms and legs, yet I couldn't yet make sense of it. Regardless, it intrigued me deeply.
Then, gathering as many bombs and as much courage as I could, I returned to the Deku Forest and slew my first phantom beneath the tree. I helped the Gorons deal with their drug crisis and ventured into Death Mountain with Yunobo, which took no small amount of lizard-based potions.
It was around this time, too, that I returned to flying with Zelda and finally retrieved the sword she'd been keeping for so long. I knew I couldn't rest until I did so - she'd given so much for me to have this opportunity, sacrificed all she had. It hurt that after so long spent fighting the Calamity, she'd fallen back into self-sacrifice. I had some hope that when I took the sword I might be able to bring her back. I saw her again, but in a vision, not as I'd hoped. I couldn't speak to her; I couldn't save her. I had to accept that she was really gone.
4. Great Expeditions and Mysteries
Meanwhile, the mystery of the massive stormcloud to the south had always intrigued me. I'd made some initial attempts to fly to it, but in the past it had exceeded my grasp. Then I finally landed on it, but found myself stopped by a mysterious door.
Now, after Death Mountain, I returned to the Thunderhead Isles with the vitality to open the great door. Revealed was a marvelous mystery beneath the floor, a mask leading me by flight to Tobio's Hollow, where not long ago I had explored the Zonai ruins trying to understand their secrets in vain. Now the door opened, and I found myself back at that mysterious factory, suddenly awake with purpose. I took counsel with the spirit sage Mineru, and learned her secret story. I fumbled around with trying to control a giant robot but found her a worthy ally in combat. We confronted another robot of her kind and secured a new alliance through the power of punches. I felt like I'd discovered a great treasure hidden by the ages.
Next came a massive expedition to explore the Gerudo desert. I ventured far and wide with sand seal and hovercar, gathered as many lizal tails as possible for upgrades, and solved the mystery of the Eighth Heroine. I also cruised around the Gerudo Desert Depths, confronting Yiga and visiting giant skeletons. I mapped Gerudo depths and Gerudo skies in great detail. I retrieved Vah Naboris's mask and made it my signature look while in the desert.
After that, I returned to Zora's Domain, to catch up with Sidon and help my old friend with benefits destroy the source of pollution in his kingdom. That took us high above the Zora skies, a fitting culmination of my quest for the temples.
The sages and I flew by triplane into Hyrule castle, pursuing a vision of Zelda. But I already had a dark suspicion that the Zelda we would find there was only an imposter. My blood boiled as Ganondorf, the monster of past and future, mocked our hopes. We overcame his phantoms, but not without great struggle. We returned to Lookout Landing to discuss and regroup with Purah. The group was surprised to hear me explain that I had already retrieved the Master Sword made contact with the sage Mineru.
It wasn't yet time for that, though. I had a lead to chase. In my confrontation with Master Kogha beneath Zora's Domain, he had mentioned that he was heading to Hebra, and he claimed he had a weapon to give to the Demon King that might end the world.
So began my great Hebra expedition, where I explored the province I had only glimpsed before. I convinced the last of the Great Fairies to return to the world and be consulted on fashion; I fought Frost Gleeoks and Frost Taluses and captured them on camera. I found the Great Skeleton of Hebra, and found more of Colgera's species nesting in the Hebra Depths, which I also thoroughly mapped.
Thankfully, Kogha's threat turned out to be more hot air in the form of another Zonai robot. Mineru and I made quick work of it. I also found the legendary garments of frost scattered about the land's caves, and with Mija's help, unlocked their hidden potential.
Ganon was gathering forces by the day, calling them to his lair each blood moon. I knew I had to act soon, but I also wanted to be ready. I decided to undertake one final expedition, where I would travel in a circle around the map, dealing with unfinished business and gathering resources.
I had a device in mind, a flying machine that would let me travel across the country with the swiftness of the breeze. I tinkered and tinkered with its design until I had it perfectly balanced, precisely right. Two fans. One steering stick. One beautiful machine.
The hoverbike.
5. Final Journey
This was my last tour:
In Tabantha, I gathered resources from Mt. Satori. At the edge of the Gerudo cliffs, I joined Farosh and rode with her through her entire flight path in and out of the Depths, taking claws and spikes when I could. I returned to the Thunderhead Isles to find resources to upgrade my charged robes and solve lingering questions, then offered a claw to the spring in Faron. I returned to Hyrule Field, where I gathered more vitality and fought a Thunder Gleeok in the old Coliseum. I sent in the last of my reports for my part-time newspaper job, then headed north. I helped unlock the secrets of the Typhlo Ruins and fought the King of Gleeoks lurking underneath.
Next, I went to Eldin, where Dinraal was flying. I rode with her, just as I had with Farosh, and touched down on the last of the sky islands I was yet to visit. I helped the monster-control squad clear out a cave, and retrieved the Ember robes, which I enhanced with fire fruit and fiery Lizal tails. I flew to Akkala to visit the Spring of Power and enhance my beloved horse Betsey, then reached out to the local racers to send them to help Lurelin's revitalization. Then, in Zora's domain, I retrieved the rest of the Zora armor and did a walking tour of Sidon's new inscriptions.
After that, it was time to return to Necluda. I caught Naydra heading out of Necluda, and did a couple of loops with her around the region. I touched base with Robbie, and made my pilgrimage (carefully - there were gloom hands about-) to the Spring of Wisdom atop Mt. Hylia, glowing with icy power.
Then I sailed in my tidy little boat down to Lurelin as the sun set beside me. The racers were already talking with the mayor, and we soon had set up a thriving racing scene to draw in new tourists. One last shrine up on the hill, and it was time to depart. I rode Betsey north, all the way back to the Forgotten Temple, to confer with the Mother Statue whose power I had restored.
Then it was time. I flew for Hyrule Castle and the Hyrule Castle Depths to confront the Demon King.
6. Ganon
I was armed with the Master Sword, the Lightscale Trident, the Boulder Breaker (plus Igneo Talus heart), Dawnbreaker (though not the Scimitar of the Seven), the Great Eagle Bow, the Fierce Deity's Sword, the Dusk Claymore, and the White Sword of the Sky, enhanced by a shard of Zelda's horn, plus anything else I could get my hands on. I had as much stamina as I could get, but only thirteen hearts (I had been overleveled last time, and wanted a difficult fight).
I spent a couple of hours exploring the castle, looking for any treasures and any secret assets that Ganondorf might have hidden away. Then I dove into the dark.
The fights ahead were tough, particularly when I was surrounded, but I had the aid of the Sages. I suprised myself by being able to slay a Silver Lynel, whose horn became the blade of a weapon I hoped to use against my final foe.
We fought our way past the army of monsters, into the secret root of evil. Gandondorf rose, taking his resurrected form. I squared off against the swordsman -
And got my ass thoroughly kicked. I had made one crucial mistake: always bring more sundelions than you think you need. I narrowly escaped being flattened while poisoned by gloom. Still, I managed to learn his patterns and find ways to dodge his blows. The thrill of battle filled me as I dueled my familiar foe. Master Sword and Lynel Blade struck against demonic blades.
The Demon King was fully awakened now, and I struggled to break through his stance. I thought I might be wearing him down, but he was draining my strength, too, and I struggled to drive the last blow home. He was too good at dodging, anticipating my every attack.
Then, I struck out without warning, randomly, almost blindly. He dodged--
But didn't dodge the next blow, where, faster than he could anticipate, I thrust my blade up into his neck.
And before I knew it, I was facing a dragon.
Zelda and I spiraled through the sky, locked in a deadly dance with the embodiement of evil. But as many times as I plummeted from the demon dragon's back, Zelda was always there in a heartbeat to catch me, and we were rising, rising together, back up to the top of the sky again.
In the end, I struck the Demon King's wounds with two blades. One was the Master Sword. The other, the White Sword of the Sky.
Both of them in honor of Zelda.
And then Ganondorf, the Calamity, the source of all our pain and suffering, disintegrated in an explosion that shook the sky.
I felt Rauru and Sonia's power flowing through me, and I let it pour into Zelda, and watched as she was reborn.
And then we were both falling, plummeting from the sky, and again I tried to get to her, to grasp her hand--
This time, this time I reached her.
*
7. Epilogue
What might the future hold for Link?
If what I've done since my playthrough is any indication, her future adventures might involve exploring and mapping the rest of the Depths, enhancing the magical robes of the ancient Zonai, and setting new records in human flight into the stratosphere. There will be rebuilding, and time spent cataloguing plants and animals, and conversations with Mineru about Zonai history.
But it won't be Link alone. Wherever she goes, she'll be with Zelda. Following her, exploring with her, researching all the mysteries of the world with her.
That, I think, would be the most important thing to her. Not anything that she herself has done.
But that this wonderful, remarkable person, this brilliant and open-hearted person this girl who loved her and accepted her even after so much had changed, this girl who sacrificed everything for her family and sacrificed even more for the world, that this girl gets to be happy, she gets to live, she gets to be safe.
She's safe. She's here, and she's safe.
That's what matters.

DEAREST MAY By Samuel Asuquo
DEAREST MAY, Oh May,Is as if you were lostwithout tracesFor the sea searches for youBut got lost in your horizon,And the land waited Till the dark came And swallow its only shadowThough the wind is still whirling Around the mountain topNot knowing you were just Behind April’s shadowsAnd the sun impatiently, Had swallowed all the  water dropletsIn the Northern Hemisphere.I know the soil still…

Gonna try to post about perfume more now that I’m in a wearing it more regularly phase! I’m going to try wearing some perfumes with similar elements side by side and compare. Decided to try Guardian Shalimar (current EDP) and Serge Lutens Chergui since I thought there was a similar heavy powderiness to them.
In the opening, Shalimar has a fresh citrus over baby powder, an enormous hot smoky rubber, and an animalic musk. Thick and heavy in texture. Totally insane tbh, and quite admirable for it. After the first hour or so, it becomes a calmer smoky, rubbery, amber-vanilla. Still very powdery and opaque, with the animalic element remaining present. Lasts forever with significant presence. I’m kind of surprised this was a popular mainstream perfume once upon a time.
Chergui, by contrast comes off as cool and sheer, with honey and immortelle topnotes, tobacco and iris blooming from underneath. The contrast really makes me notice a delicacy to the scent I never had before. As it dries down, the iris and hay takes it more dry and powdery, with a smooth resinous candied aspect. At this point, it's mostly a rich and full-bodied tobacco with powdery iris and hay at the edges. The scent has become thicker, but the overall impression is still much more transparent than Shalimar. The tail end is that honeyed tobacco and hay over a fuzzy grainy sandalwood.
Conclusion: I was totally wrong about these scents being similar! The comparison confirmed for me how much I enjoy Chergui—I only have a little 5 ml decant but I’d consider a larger size if I get through this. As for Shalimar, I’ll keep my sample around to keep trying but I haven’t got to really enjoying it (yet?)

the infiniteness of the lady of hunger's bedchambers is, in some ways, comforting and, in some ways, frightening. the luxury of the halls of consumption have been to many a place of hedonism and indulgence - those who reside within permanently are no exception, though in the absence of a party, gala, orgy, or feast, they perpetuate that consumption. and here they are: tangled amongst scarlet bedsheets, the peeks of candlelight glowing over the sheen of their flesh. nesta, propped up against the back of the bed, her fingers (long, clawed, painted black) grazing over the supple scaling of raheta's thigh.
❝ stay with me a while, will you? day will come all too soon. ❞
her voice reaches the ears of the indulgent ascendant, and nesta goes so far as to chuckle, setting down her wine on the sidetable. it is joined by several bowls of fruit and chocolate - some consumed prior to the tangling of their bodies, the needs and cries and whimpering moans of flesh trapped 'twixt some kind of ecstasy. some was consumed during, the multi-sensory hedonism tithed to the lord of indulgence. now, in the afterglow, nesta sips of wine and bites of mango as raheta speaks.
from the sidetable now, nesta produces a long, slender pipe, which is passed briefly to her draconic lover, where it is lit for nesta to take a few drags of the sweet tobacco, the haze mixing with the incense to create topnotes of tobacco, patchouli, and musk, base notes of the fruit half-consumed and the scent of their sex.
" it's you that leaves, though, isn't it? " she asks, tilting her head down as she pushes blonde hair back behind her lover's face, a thumb stroking her cheek. it passes over her nose, over the top lip, then the bottom, taking her lower lip down just a bit before letting it go. another drag of the pipe, an inhale that seems to fill the full body, softening herself as she exhales. it is exhausting to host the threefold prophecy in one's heart, especially when the world cannot keep being saved by those who should not be expected to save it.
the eldritch rapture will do faerun some good, nesta thinks; those who deem themselves heroes put out of work, those who need some semblance of morality left to find their own paths. the hand that holds the pipe rests on her own stomach; her actions delay faerun of that fate, but she will not accept anything less than perfection. " you must, when the sword coast claims to need you. mm. no matter, though - i will be here so long as the night persists, so long as the morning comes... and so long as you ask me to be here. "
she leans down, a kiss pressed to raheta's head, and she chuckles. " get some rest, pet. i turned you inside out and then some tonight. " / @gildedthrns , from the baldur's gate 3 ask meme. currently accepting.

Gridman Universe Full Spoiler Review
Studio Trigger animation is flashy and striking consistently, and sometimes they're able to say really interesting things as a result! With that in mind, Gridman Universe does ask an interesting question:
What if Cocomelon was for giving straight people j/o ideas?
Apparently this is the only question weebs want to be asked, so it's peak.
PROS
Of the kaiju fights, 3.2/4 are very good. Large swaths of the Noirdogma fight suck balls, but once Alexis shows up they're actually okay. Unfortunately, that fight transitions fully to being the Mad Origin fight once he shows up.
Universe Fighter, Grid Hyper Fixer Beam, and Full Powered Gridknight are very good forms.
Soundillus, which I refuse to call Sounderous but will probably cave to eventually, is fine.
Yuta's reach for Gridman is actually really well constructed. I'll take a soft L. This part is good. I can actually make a really coherent argument that this is the best evidence we have that this Tsutsujidai is a Gridman Universe Tsutsujidai rather than Akane's.
If you buy into my insane read of the work there's actually really good grounding for basically all of it. You have to dig a LITTLE to justify what's up with Gaurex but everything else is fine.
The confession is so utterly chemistryless that it's actually possible to walk away with the conclusion that Yuta is gay and has picked someone unattainable and now doesn't know what to do with himself after getting a yes. He unironically looks like he's handling a no he thinks he's getting better than a yes. I'm putting this in pros because it makes me hate the movie less.
CONS
First and foremost: the pacing. This movie feels like a compilation movie. This movie REALLY feels like a compilation movie; somehow, in the half of the movie that is mostly slice of life, it feels like it's missing large chunks of its slice of life. It EVENTUALLY calls this out as part of the diegesis, but that's not actually satisfying as a movie experience. "It's bad because an evil alien is making it bad" does not make it not bad.
I don't feel the same naturalism of depicted human life in this film at all. There are very few of the contemplative shots that made the SSSS works SSSS-tier; the only one I'd say really even comes close is the stuff leading up to and surrounding the swingset bit, and even that is sort of ... I personally felt the scene was a little janky for both Yuta and Rikka even if not analyzed through the lens of trying to convince us this is a (re)meet-cute.
There's a really dumb recurring bit where Yuta flashes back to hearing what I presume are the former D Girls talking about Rikka having a boyfriend who's a university student. This plays like six times and it's annoying not for heterosexuality reasons but for "enormously patronizing to the viewer" reasons.
I could not tell you a trait expressed by a single member of the Dynazenon human team in more than one scene except, perhaps, "Koyomi is pathetic," "Yomogi misses Gauma," and "Yume is extremely straight." Yuta, who wasn't actually a character in SSSS.GRIDMAN, is semi-consistent and his most consistent topnote is that he is a pathetic wet cat. He is often LITERALLY a pathetic wet cat, in fact. Utsumi is missing the emotional core of the way his character changes in eps 11-12 of SSSS.GRIDMAN. Rikka does not have a personality other than "slightly brassy sometimes" and "really, really, really scared of losing people," except the only person placed at meaningful risk for more than 15 minutes is Yuta. Anti is basically not in this movie despite there being two of him. He does not express, like, traits. Akane exists to basically fully be a Deus ex Machina. The only character I'd describe as fully consistent across all depictions is Gauma.
The level of self-mythologizing going on in this movie is off the charts. Almost everything, from the main swerve of the movie to the smallest set dressing pieces, is a Denkou Choujin callback. The calls to other Tsuburaya or Trigger works are essentially gone.
An absolutely enormous amount is sacrificed on the altar of the twist; Dynazenon is a much worse text now unless your brain is very, very big, which mine is. Most people aren't going to apply that level of analysis so I have to count it as a con because the public understanding of Dynazenon is going to be much, much worse.
Powered Knight Zenon doesn't actually fight despite being one of the better designs in the piece.
It's not just het; it's really all-in on the idea that: 1) Yuta is special, 2) somehow YOMOGI is special despite having done basically nothing except have feelings about Gaurex up to the point in the movie at which he is special, and 3) Yuta wanting to fuck a girl is what makes him special. I would actually rate his desire to confess to Rikka ahead of his sense of self-sacrifice as far as "trait the movie rewards and considers heroic" goes.
I cannot think of a single thing in the first 50 minutes I think is actually, like, unambiguously good, other than the kaiju fight. The slice of life is compilation movie level breakneck.
The confession is so utterly chemistryless that it's actually possible to walk away with the conclusion that Yuta is gay and has picked someone unattainable and now doesn't know what to do with himself. I'm putting this in cons as well as pros because it has made it abundantly clear that cishet weeb men are a different species.
Ostensibly-still-dead Tonkawa = 0/10. Undermines TV. I could go into this in great detail, but I won't.
Ako and Marusan are never in the same shot. 0/10
If I'm being INCREDIBLY fair to the movie, allowing it EVERYTHING it wants with partial credit for applied knowledge, AND treating it as essentially not in dialogue with the SSSS works, it's probably a 6. In terms of, like, being a Gridman work, 3/10 and all the points are for fights.
