Rethink that plan o'yers laddie- Scotty x Fem!Reader
What happens when your ex comes aboard the Enterprise? Better yet, what happens when Scotty, who has liked you for a while, hears your ex say some choice words about you?
So is the first person from Star trek I write about Spock? Nope. Bones? Na. Kirk? Guess again....It's Scotty...I swear it's the accent, only thing that makes me weaker than a good Southern drawl is a Scottish/Irish accent....wrote close to 3k the very first night lol. But I am very happy with how this came out! I tried to write his accent thicker as he gets flustered so I hope it isn't confusing for anyone. I could just see it getting super thick when he's pissed or flustered.
Word count: 5,930
Pairing: Scotty x Fem!Reader (can be reas as Tos or Aos Scotty
Warnings: Cussing, EX is a manipulative dick, hints as possible abusive past relationship, talks of past cheating.
(Also we love a supportive brother lol)
This story is also on ao3
I also have a Ko-Fi in case anyone wants to tip a $1 coffee ❤️

“So I just wanted to give you a heads up before you saw him but…A new crew member has been added to engineering” Your brother said hurriedly as the two of you made your way to the mess hall for dinner.
“I heard, we received a few new crew members from the Roosevelt, including Lieutenant Kilel who has been a great help to me in the lab, she definitely knows her way around plants.” You nod, stopping when your brother suddenly steps in front of you.
“Yeah that's cool and all, but this one you're not going to like” he told you, causing you to raise a brow.
“Who is it?”
“Um…well…justprepare yourself ok? It's not good.”
“(B/N) who am I going to be stuck on a ship with in space for the next five years?” You watched him sigh and start backing towards the mess hall door, your feet moving on their own to follow.
“If you don't tell me right no-” the doors opened and you looked over to the engineering table, a table you had sat at before with your brother and Scotty, but a table you would no longer be going to as you noticed a very familiar head of curly locks and a laugh that now made you grit your teeth.
“Oh you have got to be fucking kidding me”
“I know, it took everything I had not to deck him as soon as he walked in”
“Five years! As if the two years I was already with that pig wasn't enough, now I have to be on the same ship as him for five years!!” You whispered yelled while you and your brother got your food.
“I know! But hey, it's a big ship, you can avoid him”
“I won't be able to stop by and see you anymore without running into that asshat” you grumbled.
“That certainly will cut into your Mr.Scott time”
“Excuse you?!”
“Oh come on, you don't come down to see me, you come down to see him”
“I do not!” You gasped, a little louder than you meant to, but your outburst only caused your brother's smirk to widen.
“Sure you don't”
“(Y/N?) You heard that voice ask, that voice that you now wonder how you ever fell for, since it rang like nails on a chalkboard. You watched your brother's eyes harden as he looked behind you, and you took a deep breath before spinning around.
“Hello (E/N)”
“Long time no see, should have known you'd be on the ship, the two of you don't stray too far from each other” he spoke, gesturing with his glass to you and your brother.
“Yes well, some people work well with each other, some don't, that's life”
“Aye, you should see these two work, Lass may not be in engineering, but hand ‘er a tool belt an’ a problem an’ these two have it fixed in minutes when they are together, I keep tellin’ ‘er she should transfer over, but I know the ship would be lost without our botanist” Scotty spoke, sending you a wink at the end that made you smile and blush lightly.
“Awe thank you, that means a lot”
“Just tellin’ the truth Lass”
“Why don't you transfer? I mean, I'm sure you're great with the plants or whatever, but it would be nice to see you around more” your ex smiled, and it took everything in you not to physically make a face, how had you ever fallen for this guy?
“Thanks, but as was just stated, the ship needs its botanist” you spoke while walking past him, heading towards the table that Nafula, your new Lieutenant, sat at but stopping next to Scotty and placed your hand on his shoulder.
“And besides, with Scotty as Chief Engineer if anyone should be worried about not being needed, it's you lot” you smiled, laughing at your brother's quick “hey!” That got a laugh from Scotty as well. With that you went over to the other table, happy to be always from your ex, God this was gonna be a long five years.
Scotty sat at his desk as he looked over the codes on his computer, but his brain was miles away. After you had left to sit with your new Lieutenant, he found out that not only did his newest crew member know you, which he had gathered by your brief interaction, but that the two of you used to date. He ran his hand over his face as he reached for the glass of Scotch, he had tried to stop drinking so much on the clock, but he needed to ease his mind. Of course you had dated someone like (EX/LN), he was around your age, tall, muscled, he was sure that was your type not….him. He hated himself for even imagining that he had a chance, of course you wouldn't want someone like him, even with the muscles he had from working in engineering it was less defined than (EX/LN). His hair was a wee bit thinner than (EX/LN)’s curly locks…and the biggest thing…He was ten years your senior. Downing the liquor, he poured himself another before he heard a knock at the office door, looking up just to be met with your smiling face as you made your way towards his desk, tray in hand. You made it so easy to fall for you.
“Lunch time” you smiled as you sat the tray down, glad that the noise of the room easily drowned out the pounding of your heart, you didn’t think it would ever not do that when you were near Scotty.
“Lass, I hope ya know ya spoil me with this” he smiled despite himself, how could he not when you're standing in his office like a ray of sunshine in the middle of the dark galaxy.
“Listen, someone has to make sure you and my brother eat, I swear you two, if I didn't, you would go all day without a crumb, too focused on work” You told him, taking your seat on the other side of the desk and picking up your own food.
“We would not” he defended, knowing full well that you were right, especially when you just looked at him with a raised brow.
“Ok, so ya never been too engrossed in yer plants ta eat?” He asked.
“Never said that, but my body let's me know when it needs food so that my brain can work at a hundred percent”
“Ack Lass are ya tryin’ ta say that I’m stupid without food?!” He teased, watching as you rolled your eyes and tried to hide the smile that threatened to break through, and he almost…could have swore that your cheeks got a little red…no…had to be the lights.
“No, just stupid when you ignore your body's need for it” you laughed.
“So ya are callin’ me stupid! Why, an’ here I thought you were nice, this food was just a way in so ya could insult me” he spoke, before taking a bite.
“Oh hush, I am nice, otherwise I wouldn't worry about you eatin’” you told him, sticking your tongue out before smiling.
“Nicest lass on the ship” he smiled, his tone not one of teasing, but of pure sincerity, which caused your cheeks to darken a bit more and your heart to pick up speed, God how easily this man could do this to you.
You had been able to sneak in and out of engineering without running into your ex so far, which you had thanked the heaven's for, you might be stuck on a ship with him, but that didn't mean you had to interact, especially if you could help it. Your brother's teasing never ceased, even as you tried to deny it, all building up, til one night as he dropped you off at your quarters he told you
“Listen, would it be weird, you and my boss, hundred percent. But I would rather see you with him than (E/N) or someone like him. You deserve better, and Mr.Scott is a good man”
So needless to say that sentence ran through your head all night and into the next morning. You knew Scotty was a good man, that was the issue. He was a good man that was so far out of your reach it hurt. Scotty wasn't like any of the guys you had gone after before, he was an actual sweetheart, a gentleman, funny as hell, and always had his friend's backs. He never let things rile him up, unless the situation called for it, and was always there with some form of advice or just a listening ear when you needed it. You loved how passionate he got when he talked about the Enterprise, or a new upgrade he had for her. While the Captain talked about the ship like his wife, Scotty talked about it like his child. You were certain that Scotty was one of a kind, he never saw you as “just (B/N)’s little sister” he knew your worth on the ship, and often praised you for it. He made you feel seen, worthy, and if you were being completely honest with yourself, he made you feel like a woman. Which you hated to even think, since you were sure that the ten year age gap made him look at you like a child. Sighing, you wished you lived in one of the romance novels you and Uruha snuck onto the ship, that Scotty would just whisk you away to a far off land, or that he'd at least be like the protagonist in the one book and realize that the soulmate he had been searching for was right in front of him all along. But alas, life was not a book, and as much as you'd love to touch a standing stone and have it whisk you away to Scotland…you had plants to attend to, but first, coffee.
Scotty awoke a bit happier than normal, and even though his bed being empty made him realize it had all been a dream, the dream still played through his mind as he got dressed nonetheless. You slept in the same bed as him, a bed that was much softer than the ones on the ship, the air much fresher as it blew into the slightly opened window. The sun was just coming over the rolling hills as the fog still rested low. Home, he was home in Scotland, and you were tucked into his side, your face peaceful as you slept, your arm wrapped around him, making sure that he didn't leave your grasp…He'd never leave if it was up to him, he'd lay there forever in this peaceful state, just basking in the calm. He could feel his own smile as he curled back into you, his own arms wrapping tightly around your form, bidding that you never leave his side. This must have been what true happiness felt like.
“Monty?” You asked in that still sleepy voice and he swore his heart was going to explode.
“S'alright Mo chridhe (my heart), I'm here” he whispered back, giving you a soft kiss on the head before you snuggled back into him…Peace.
That was until the alarm clock had woken him up, blasted thing. But even his hatred for the piece of machinery couldn't stop the smile that stayed on his lips as he headed towards the mess hall for a cup of coffee. Nodding at his crew members upon entering the room, and noticing (B/N) was already up as well, good man, hard worker.
“Someone is happy this morning” he heard a voice beside him giggle, a sound that always threatened to make his knees weak.
“Good dreams?” You asked as you replicated your own coffee order.
“Aye” he nodded, taking a sip.
“And you?”
“Oh you know, frolicking through a field of flowers in one of those super flowy dresses before stopping to have a tea party with the local wildlife” you shrugged, watching as he blinked a few times.
“That's…an image…Lass what sort of plants do ya ‘ave in that greenhouse of yers?” He asked, causing you both to start laughing.
“I'm joking, I swear. My dreams were rather uneventful” you waved him off.
“If you say so” he chuckled.
“What about you? What made you so smiley this morning?” You ask around the top of your cup, your eyes never leaving his as you fight down the blush.
“Oh just ah…home” he nodded, that was the safest answer, and also true, he was home, and not just because he had been in Scotland.
“Lucky, I'd love to dream of Scotland” you sighed, making him slightly choke.
“You would?” Would you like to go there? He'd be more than happy to take you, whisk you away like one of those romance novels Uruha snuck onto the ship. He'd show you around all the nature spots he knows you'd like, Isle of Skye, Loch Ness, Loch Lomond, all of them.
“One day, it's definitely on my bucket list” you nod.
“I've seen a lot of pictures, you're definitely lucky to have been born in such a beautiful place Scotty” you smiled…Scotty…it took him months to get you to call him that instead of Mr.Scott…but everyone called him that…He wanted you to call him what you had called him in the dream, logic be damned, even if it made his feelings even worse, he needed to hear you say it…at least just once.
“Monty” he corrected you, watching as you slightly tilted your head in confusion, by God how could you make everything look cute?
“You can call me Monty, lass, everyone calls me Scotty” he explained, hoping he wasn't overstepping. Meanwhile you were having a full blown heart attack. He wanted you to call him by his first name! A name no one else calls him, it would just be you, only you…Could that mean that it wasn't one sided?!?
“Unless ya dinnae want to” he quickly spoke, hoping if he backtracked quick enough you would just forget it.
“No no you just surprised me is all” you quickly explained, hoping you hadn't messed this up completely.
“But if I call you Monty you have to call me (Y/N). I feel it's only fair” you spoke, hoping he didn't pick up on the waver in your voice that your nerves caused.
“Ya've got yerself a deal (Y/N)” he smiled, a smile that quickly reached his eyes.
It had been a couple of days since your interaction, and to say that the name exchange hadn't helped your crush would be a massive understatement. Nothing else had developed, and honestly you were beginning to worry, maybe you had read too much into it? Maybe it meant more to you than him? You knew Nafula would have told you to talk to Sc-Monty, but you didn't want to make a fool out of yourself if it really didn't mean anything. He would think you were an idiot, a child crushing on him when he could, no doubt, have any woman on this ship. That thought made your stomach twist into knots, what did make you stand out from anyone else? What made you think you stood more of a chance? Sighing, you looked at the clock…Lunchtime. Telling Nafula you'd be back in a bit, you made your way to the mess hall to grab not only your lunch, but something for your brother and Monty. Though, you were shocked when you stepped in and saw your brother actually at one of the tables.
“You decided to come eat for once?” You asked him as you approached.
“Olsen drug me here” he grumbled while pointing to the younger blonde boy beside him.
“Thank you Olsen, I truly appreciate that” you smiled.
“No problem at all ma’am,” he nodded.
“Mr.Scott is still down in engineering though” your brother told you with that knowing smirk.
“What else is new” you rolled your eyes, opting to ignore his look. Instead you made your way over to the replicator, quickly grabbing lunch for you and Monty.
“He's down there too…just a heads up” your brother called to you, you gave him a nod, understanding.
“Thanks”
“No problem”
You made your way down to engineering, so far the day Monty told you to call him such was the last day he had been around at lunchtime, you had simply been leaving his lunch, knowing that he was somewhere in the huge engine room, but also knowing he must have been elbow deep in a project to miss your lunch sessions…at least that was what you hoped. Making your way to his office, you felt your shoulders slump as he was, once again, not in his office. Sitting his tray down on the desk, you sighed and turned to leave, your mood now darkened as you carried your own lunch back towards the door…But if the universe was gonna give you a break, it wasn't today.
“Hey! (Y/N)!” You heard behind you, and didn't even try to hide the groan that left your lips as you turned.
“Hello (E/N)”
“Still with that tone, come on, you know you're happy to see me”
“I'd rather see a flesh eating slug from betas-con six”
“Ouch, still a bit of a bitch, got it”
“Excuse you”
“Hey, it's ok, I still can get you back into that sub space I'm sure” he smirked and it took everything you had not to just punch him in it.
“We're done” you spoke, turning to leave, but he quickly stood in front of you.
“Oh come on, I haven't seen you attached to anyone, which means you're still single…Unless you're doing something with Mr.Scott” he laughed
“Monty?” You asked, almost regretting saying something…almost…but the fact that your ex's laughter died a bit at it made you glad you said it.
“Monty?”
“Sorry, Mr.Scott”
“I thought everyone called him Scotty if they didn't call him Mr.Scott”
“They do” you nodded watching as his eyes narrowed, putting pieces together to a puzzle that wasn't even there.
“(Y/N)” you sighed at the voice, it wasn't the accented voice you wanted to hear, but your brother's voice was heaven sent at the moment.
“Hey (B/N)” you smiled over your ex's shoulder, your brother slightly taller than him.
“Everything ok?”
“Yeah dude totally-”
“Wasn't asking you fuckass” your brother glared at your ex, before turning back to you.
“Was trying to leave but someone wouldn't let me, didn't wanna just punch him, you know how much paperwork that ends up being” you shrugged, watching as he nodded before pushing your ex to the side and stepping to the side himself, allowing you to pass.
“Get back to the lab, you still have some lunchtime left”
“Thanks, and when Monty gets back, tell him I left his lunch in his office. I'm sure he's working on something big” you told him, watching as your brother raised a brow before giving you a small smirk and nod.
“You got it” with that you didn't even spare your ex another look before you made your way to the turbolift and back to the lab.
Scotty sighed as he finally made his way back to his office, his shoulders hurt and he knew he was going to have a bruise in his leg where he banged it against the pipes. He nodded at (B/N) as he walked past, noticing that the man only took his eyes off the project for a moment to give him a nod back.
“(Y/N) left your lunch in your office Chief” he replied while turning bolts, and Scott could feel his shoulders slump, this was the third day in a row he missed you, surely by now you were thinking he was avoiding you, which he never wanted you to think. He'd have to make it up to you, maybe bring you dinner in your lab this time.
“Have a nice lunch…Monty” he heard your ex grumble lowly, but he still caught it.
“What was that lad?” He asked, watching as the man rolled his eyes but didn't look away from his project. So he wanted to remark but when actually faced with a problem he didn't respond…that told Scott a lot about him, and made him wonder why you of all people went for this guy. Deciding to drop it he went to his office and closed the door, opting to have his lunch in peace, but a thought mid-bite made him stop, and made a smile spread on his lips…You had called him Monty…to your ex. You didn't hide the fact he had given you permission to call him by his first name. As he looked down at his food he couldn't help the joyful little chuckle that left his lips as he let his heart believe that maybe…maybe he did have a chance.
It wasn't until the next day that he heard a peep from your ex, but what he did hear made him frown. Your ex was talking with a few of the other crew, all of them gathering round on a project that only needed one, slackers.
“I'm telling you, she's right there, all I have to do is get her right where I want her and bam, she'll be back to being submissive to me in no time” Scotty's eyes narrowed as he looked at the group, surly the fool wasn't talking about you, you'd have to be mad to go back to this gowk. And from the sounds of it, this bawbag wouldn't be doing you any favors, he was the type that would take a flower and crush it just because he could, take a bird and cage it so it would need him. Scotty could picture it, your bright smile slowly dying as the twinkle in your eye that you got every time you told him about a new plant slowly dulled. The bounce in your step would flatten to a slow march, while your expressive hand gestures ceased to white knuckles on your PADD…No…He wouldn't let him do that to you.
“And once I get her there, I'll jump back onto the Roosevelt with her, that way she's away from her brother and Monty, and she'll be totally mine again” he laughed, but the others around him didn't laugh, they didn't make a sound as they looked up at the angry but silent Scot standing behind your ex.
“Ah rethink that plan o'yers lad” Scott spoke slowly, the accent much thicker. He watched your ex slowly turn, looking up at him before standing and turning to him fully.
“Why? Because you two are a thing?” He asked, and before Scotty could even think about what his words would cause he nodded.
“Aye” he watched the boy laugh, the sound grating his already fraying nerves, and he once again found himself wondering what you had seen in this guy.
“Are you serious? Wow I knew her taste may have gone downhill after me, but didn't realize how much, also didn’t know she had daddy issues” he laughed while looking back at his crewmates who had now stood up and backed away from the two, no doubt not wanting to be associated with him.
“From tha’ looks o'it, ah say ’er taste ‘as improved. Since all ah see in front o'me right now is a wee barn” he told your ex, watching as the man's head snapped back, sizing him up.
“Watch it old man”
“From ‘ere I'm standin’ Lad, it's you who should be watchin’ it”
“Seriously?” He laughed, shaking his head.
“You're willing to get your ass kicked over her? Listen dude, let me give you some insight on her. She acts like she's something but she isn't shit without guidance. Sure she went to school to play with plants, but during the schooling she was so focused on it, it took me sleeping with her roommate for her to get her priorities straight, me. She acts like she only has eyes for you, but if you don't keep her in line she starts focusing on her stupid ass career and shit. You gotta keep knocking her down just so she learns her place..and to top it off, she sucks in the bedroom, total vanilla, what kind of a guy wants th-” Scotty and the rest of the crew watched the man go down, before their eyes snapped up to their Chief Engineer. He hadn't known he threw the punch if he was being completely honest, all he knew was that your ex's words about you had made him see red, and then he swung. He looked down at the man's unconscious body, his fist still clenched and face no doubt as red as his uniform, before he looked back up, his eyes immediately catching your brother's.
“Get ‘im out o’my engine room, ‘ave McCoy tie ‘im up in sick bay if he ‘as ta, but that man is leavin’ this ship, even if ah ‘ave ta throw ‘im in space myself” Your brother quickly nodded, and with a smile, grabbed your ex's arms, nodding to one of the other crew to grab his legs as they took him from the room. Without a word the rest of the crew quickly filed off to go do…something, while Scotty stormed back to his office, reaching for the bottle that would help him calm down a bit.
“Please tell me you heard what happened!” Nafula asked as she rushed into the lab, plant in hand.
“I haven't been out of the lab all day so I'm going to go with no” you laughed as she placed the plant next to you and you began examining it.
“Mr.Scott punched (Ex/LN)”
“WHAT?!”
“Yeah! Ok first off, I didn't know you and Mr.Scott were dating but I am very much here for it!”
“Wait…what?”
“Yeah, so what I heard from Ensign Olsen, your ex was talking about how he was going to try to get back with you and then get you to go onto the Roosevelt with him so you'd be away from your brother, which, bitch move. And Mr.Scott told him to rethink his plan, and when your ex asked if you and him were dating Mr.Scott said yes. Which, yay! And then your ex I guess started talking shit about both you and Mr.Scott, calling Mr.Scott old but then when he started up about you…Mr.Scott knocked him out” she finished. Leaving you standing there with your mouth open…Monty had punched your ex…because he was talking shit about you?...also he told your ex and what you guessed was enough crew members for words to spread quickly, that the two of you were dating?? Your mind ran a mile a minute as you thought over everything, was he just being nice? Trying to protect you? Monty was a gentleman like that. But he told everyone you two were dating….he had to have known that news would spread like wildfire on this ship. Would he correct it? Say he just said it to get your ex off your back? Or did he mean it? Was that what he wanted?
“-ff the ship”
“What?” you asked, only now realizing that Nafula was talking again.
“I said that Mr.Scott is talking to the Captain about getting your ex off the ship”
“Really?” you breathed
“Yeah, right now he has him in sick bay, Dr.McCoy is keeping him hypo’d since he was a little aggressive when he came to”
“That's…Normal for him” you spoke after a moment, not noticing the look Nafula gave you.
“Where is Monty now?”
“Mon…Mr.Scott-” She giggled
“Is on the bridge with the Captain”
“Thank you” you nodded, quickly rounding the table and bolting for the turbolift. You tapped your foot, trying to expel some of the nervous energy as you waited for it to arrive at the bridge.
“I wouldnae ask such a thing Captain, but that man has ta go” you heard the accented voice before you saw him, standing close to Kirk.
“I understand completely Scotty, and though I know it's not…regulation to punch one of your crewmembers…I can't say I wouldn't have done the same after what you told me” he said while holding Scotty’s shoulders.
“The Roosevelt is a ways off, but from what we have gathered they will be having a shore leave on Veridia in a couple of days, we will drop him off, he can wait for his former ship there” Scotty nodded.
“I appreciate it Captain”
“(Y/N) is my crewmember too, and even if I'm not the one dating her, she means a lot to me” he nodded, watching as Scotty's face got a bit redder.
“Oh um”
“Not the one you need to talk to” Kirk leaned in to whisper to him, before gesturing beside them. Scotty turned, only to see you standing right outside of the turbo lift. Your eyes were wide, questioning, no doubt you had heard of what he had done, and what he had said…Would you hate him? Not want to be around him anymore? Demand that he immediately correct everyone and explain that the two of you weren't together? With a shaky breath he made his way over to you.
“Hi” He nodded
“Hi” you nodded back.
“Can we-”
“I know what-”
You both started, laughing lightly as you told the other to go at the same time.
“Um…I heard…What happened” you started.
“Aye…I'm sorry lass, I know I may have overstepped. But the things he was sayin’ about ya. I couldn't just stand by an’ let him talk about ya like that. Me, he could throw his weight in words around all day. But you…I couldn't”
“And…The dating thing?”
“Ah…yes…um…He asked if we were…I thought if I said yes…He'd drop it”
Oh…so it had just been him trying to protect you, you'd be lieing if you said that revelation hadn't made you a little sad. Scotty thought he answered right, because surely you didn't want that to be true, but as he watched your shoulders slump with his words, he decided…screw consequences.
“Unless…I mean…Only if” he watched you look up at him, getting lost in your (e/c) gaze for a moment.
“Ack! Blast it all! Ah love ya! Ah dinnae ken when it ‘appened, but it did. Ah love our lunch dates, an’ ‘ow you ramble on when ya have ah breakthrough, or ah new plant. Ah love ‘ow yer so easy ta talk ta about everythin’. ‘ow yer smile lights up a room, ‘ow yer laugh makes even the worst days betta. Ah love everythin’ about ya, an’ if ya’d be willin’ ta give this old man a chance, ah promise everyday ah’ll show ya just ‘ow much ya mean ta me (Y/N)” he confessed in a rush, his accent much thicker, and you realized from the dark red of his cheeks, that it must get thicker when he gets flustered. But that didn't mean you didn't understand every word he spoke, and before you could stop it, you found your vision getting blurry with tears.
“Now no need ta cry lass, a simple no would be ok” he spoke, but you just shook your head and hugged him.
“I love you too” you smiled, earning a shocked chuckle from him.
“you do?”
“Yes.
“All those things, I love about you too. I love when you tell me about upgrades you do to the ship, how it’s so easy to fall into your long conversations. How you make me feel safe and nervous at the same time, I try to make you laugh so much cause seeing you happy makes me happy. You make me feel seen, like I'm not just (B/N)’s little sister. You make me feel like I'm actually worth something”
“Yer worth the whole galaxy”
“And so are you” you smiled, cupping his cheek as you looked at him.
“You made it so easy to fall in love with you Monty, I'd be an idiot not to. I just never thought…because I thought you saw me as too young. ”
“I thought ya saw me as too old” both of you chuckling as you realized it had been yourselves that had stopped you.
“So….does ‘at mean….maybe we dinnae ‘ave ta correct everyone?” he asked, placing his hand over yours.
“I think everything is correct as it stands” you smiled, watching as the smile stretched across his lips, lighting up his eyes.
“Ah am the luckiest man on this ship” he breathed, leaning closer.
“I'm definitely the luckiest woman” you smiled back, closing the gap and doing what you had only dreamt of doing for months. You felt his other hand gently grab your waist and pull you closer, your free hand making its way to the back of his neck. Maybe you didn't have to touch a standing stone to get whisked away by a Scottish gentleman after all. As the two of you broke apart you heard a faint chuckle, only then realizing that you were in fact…still on the bridge. You looked over at your fellow crew and Captain, only to find them all slightly smiling, Uruha sending you a wink as you could only let out your own giggle.
“right..well..um” you heard Monty say as he too realized where the two of you still were.
“Ah um..should get back ta um”
“yeah so should I” you nodded as you both stepped onto the turbo lift, watching as the door closed on your friends, and leaving you and Monty alone. You felt him gently turn your face before his lips were on yours again, the softness telling you that you would never get tired of this. His thumb ran over your cheek before you felt the lift stop at your floor.
“How about ah stop by the lab tonight with dinner?” he asked, nose still brushing yours as he held you close.
“I'd love that” you smiled.
“It's a date” and he sealed the words with another kiss before reluctantly letting you go and letting you step off of the turbo lift. You gave him one last smile before the doors closed, a whole new bounce in your step as you made your way back to the lab, and to a very eager Nafula.
Meanwhile, in med bay.
“how long will it take him to wake up?” Kirk asked if he looked over at your ex who lay on one of the beds.
“could be hours…could be days” bone shrugged.
“Bones?”
“I may have not looked when I gave him the hypo” he shrugged again, causing Kirk to laugh.
“listen, I'm sure you heard what all he said about (Y/N) be glad I only put him ta sleep. I got a whole lab of different diseases I could ‘ave slipped in there” he told him, southern drawl getting thicker when he thought of your ex's words.
“I know Bones. Well either way, even if he isn't up we'll dump him off at Veridia’s med bay, he'll be their problem” he told him before slapping him on the shoulder and stepping out of the room.
“Good riddance” Bones stated, before heading to his other patients.
So there it is! It started off being inspired by this imagine I posted, but then just completely did it's own thing lol. But first Star Trek fanfiction! Whoooo! Glad I could finally contribute to this fandom 😊.
Let me know what ya thought!

it really is SUCH a shame that there’s no episode of TOS where the enterprise crew time jumps to Regency-era England or goes to a planet that modeled its culture on that era or something, because it would truly slap for every single main character. Like I don’t even have to explain why this would be awesome for Spock— Mr. I’ll-smash-a-computer-with-my-bare-hands-before-I’ll-admit-I’m-horny himself, king of repression, who basically recreated the famous Pride and Prejudice Hand Flex Scene™️ with his beloved Captain that one time, who meets a blind woman with a high tech gown that helps her “see” and LITERALLY tells her to give his compliments to her dressmaker, who mislead a woman once about his affections and tenderly promised to safeguard her reputation forever about it, who has the perfect angular features to be set off by a cravat—I mean, you get it, but then you’ve also got Kirk—handsome, affable, brave Naval captain who loves his crew more than himself, who falls in like deep profound love with every woman the plot throws at him—and then McCoy—cantankerous, sure, (ever heard of a grumpy/sunshine trope??) but with impeccable, downright old school manners towards women and, yeah, a doctor’s not that prestigious in Regency times, but for like a young lady in trouble who needs the protection of a man’s name or who just wants to piss off her stuffy aristocrat family by marrying “beneath” them, who could be better? If you throw Scotty in the mix, well, he’s Scottish, which [points at a whole subgenre of regency romance novels] is all he’d really need. I’m just saying they would have CLEANED UP, okay??
#by main character I do mean like main cast/top billing#which is why I’m not including uhura and sulu and chekhov#also because they don’t go off on landing party missions that much they stay on the bridge#I included Scotty because he does go with them more often and also…because he’s Scottish literally#like….do you know how many romance novels are just like ‘Scottish men are irresistible to young English maidens’??#it’s NUTS quite frankly#why aren’t any English maidens obsessed with like….welsh guys??#extra funny to imagine this alien culture modeling itself after the Regency era and they just use like 20th and 21st century romance novels#as their guide which like yeah they are well researched in many cases but also they’re primarily designed for escapism not accuracy#so authors will just hand wave certain things#my kingdom for Spock saying ‘fascinating Captain. They seem to base their culture on the fictional though anthropological writings#of 19th century writer Jane Austen’#if they were making it now this could happen#and unfortunately people would call it a Bridgerton inspired episode#and we’d all have to pretend that wasn’t insane#also to be clear no shade at Scotty he’s great and he’s got a lot going for him but in a regency romance he’d have everybody on accent alon#star trek#tos#do I dare tag this as Jane Austen??

if I wrote a doomtrek fic it would barely care that bones is a supersoldier or whatever, it would entirely be focused on nyota uhura's one woman crusade to prove that his accent is fake
#the southern us family of accents is one of the hardest to believably mimic#actually I also care about him getting to meet tos!spock and have a#''fate has gone to greater lengths than I'd imagined to rectify the errors of this universe'' moment#but mostly uhura going crazy because his accent is so bad why is his accent so bad???#(neither de kelley nor karl urban went particularly hard on the accent so tbh neither is awful--#especially comparative to chekov and scotty--#but still)

I love my Scottish icon so much but since he takes on literally 100% of the stress for keeping this beautiful old ship afloat, he is on the brink of an exhaustion induced mental breakdown 24/7. Sometimes you have to go down to Sickbay and rope Bones into helping you; the look of panic on Scotty’s face when the two of you step out of the turbo lift and come literally sprinting towards him is something behold. With only minimal squirming, the two of you manage to rope yourselves around his arms and drag him down to his room just to get a few hours of bloody sleep. You stay, flopping down on his sofa because you know Scotty too well, and in two jiffs he’d be making a beeline straight for those sliding doors again. Bones even decides he can finish off his last bits of paperwork in the corridor, helping you keep watch.
You and Scotty manage to finally come to a halfway point: he’ll stay in his room, but only if he can curl up onto the settee next to you, and fall asleep with his chin smushed against the side of your face. He has a massive crick in his neck when he wakes up the next morning, stretching his arms out past your head while you shake a glob of his slobber off your shoulder, but it’s worth it to see how bouncy he is back down in engineering.
Sometimes when things are a bit slower on the Enterprise the two of you will have drinking competitions down in his office. Chekov happens to wander past one afternoon, and comes in laughing when he spots you desperately trying to hold back your laughter as Scotty wiggles his eyebrows on you. He nearly jumps out of his seat in a fit of giggles when you accidentally spray half of the whiskey in your mouth out over his uniform, but poor Chekov decides to wander over to your desk right then and gets most of it on the side of his face.
To be completely honest, the joy the two of you bring to each other is so infectious, that most of the Enterprise’s crew seem to gravitate towards the two of you at one time or another. One night, you and Scotty were sitting in a couple of desk chairs in the recreation room, nothing but the pearls of picked starlight whirling in the open expanse behind your head to keep you company in the dim room. The two of you are trying to speak over each other, gossip and idle chatter passing easily between the two of you as you unwind after a very long week down main engineering. It’s a very chill, warm, and comforting vibe that Jim walks in to: your legs are slung over Scotty’s lap as you nod at whatever topic his mind has jumped onto now, and he stops every so often to over you his whiskey bottle and steal it back once you’ve taken a sip. Jim likes to just sit in the same room as the two of you, because the constant stream of familiar chatter immediately drowns out and calms the storm of anxiety that brews up slowly in his head.
This man has an absolutely abysmal sense of humour, and you adore it. The ship could be in the middle of an intense attack, sweat dripping down both your faces as you make a run to the engine, trying to stop a couple of the blades from spinning off in a fiery blaze that would destroy half the cabins. Despite you literally hauling his ass through a small shaft, your grip on his legs tenuous at best as you try to dangle some equipment out from the loops of your belt, Scotty decides it’s the best time to try and crack terrible jokes to alleviate the tension. Well, he says ‘tension’, but to be completely honest he knows how afraid you are, and it breaks his heart to think that he could die without even trying to help you.
Well, he tries to crack jokes until the ship lurches sideways, and then you’re dangling from the railings around the engine while Scotty holds onto your shoulders ‘scooby doo’ style.
This man is seriously, genuinely, incredibly protective over you. He sees you as his sibling: the closest thing he has to family (before he gets close to the rest of the crew as well), and so if he finds Spock to be a little too... demeaning towards you, even though he doesn’t mean to be, he will 100% shove you behind his back. The incorrectly filled out paperwork Spock was trying to hand back to you flutters down to the floor, and Spock raises an eyebrow in measured surprise as Scotty’s fingers encircle your wrist. Then the pointer finger comes out wagging, his mouth goes off running, and you’re pretty sure you can hear him yell ‘go ahead, fire me! You bet your arse you won’t be able to find two better engineers in all the universe, laddie!’
Spock, frozen in place and confused with the interaction, just turns his head to you and offers an apology once Scotty finally cools down a little. Once he heads back to the bridge to recount what happened to an incredibly amused Jim, Scotty’s tight grip onto your wrist turns into a bone crushing hug. He mutters his own sincere apologies for letting that happen into the top of your head, hefting your feet off the floor and spinning you around, his face burning red as his chin bumps against your forehead.
He has this little check in he likes to do with you (well, mainly to check in, but also to tease you a little in the proper brotherly fashion.) You know you should probably run away when he starts slinking over to where you’re tinkering with your wrenches, with a sly smile on his face. He’ll come leaning against the wall beside you, running the back of his knuckles down the side of your face fondly, before gently slapping the side of your cheek a couple of times. You always do your best to try and poke him on the shoulder back, but that little bugger is fast as lightening as he ducks away from you and runs down towards the corridor. Sometimes Bones has wandered tiredly into one of the medical supply closets, nearly being knocked down onto his ass as you run past him with a little goblin grin and a big wave. He should have known rightly, as he opens the door, that Scotty would be hiding in here. Scotty, however, is incredibly surprised, and falls down from the pipe he’s hanging onto from the ceiling down onto a stack of shelves.
Bones just sighs and heaves him up, his tricorder already out and scanning his head as he leads him down to Sickbay. He knows to get on his comms immediately and notify you because: 1) the two of you have this kind of sixth sense where you know when the other is in trouble, so you’re already perched on the edge of Len’s desk, immediately yelling at Scotty before the two of them have hobbled through the door. And 2) Scotty, like Jim, absolutely does his best to escape Sickbay at all costs and it drives Len insane, so he needs your help to keep him in his biobed. Bones does his best to stitch up the gash in Scotty’s leg as you loop your arm around his left and haul him back down. Between muffled swears, Scotty trying to jerk you off, and you patting the beads of sweat away from his forehead gently to comfort him, Scotty begins to ease into it.
I feel like the two of you would be the type to try and tease Jim any chance you got. Say, if there’s some huge ballroom event held down at base that the crew all go to? You and Scotty are definitely on the dance floor, having a competition to see who can stand on the other’s feet the most, and waltzing terribly back and forth in front of poor Jim and whoever he’s currently trying to hold a conversation with. Eventually he just gives up, and the two of you are beat in your terrible dancing only by Jim and Spock, who he’s managed to coax to the edge of the floor and is currently just doing a slow box step in place around Jim’s arms lmao.
Sometimes you’ll head back to your quarters after a long shift to find Scotty’s bent over behind greeting you. Turns out, once he turns around in surprise with a sheepish grin, that he has spent his break fixing bits and bobs around your room. Eh, there’s a few concerning bolts scattered around your floor, and your shower now has an extra knob that you’re far too terrified to turn, but he’s so sweet bless his heart. He gets this massive, sunshine filled, proud grin on his face when you thank him for helping out, and comes clambering over towards you to engulf you in a bear hug. He has a hard time telling the people that he cares about that he loves him, so acts of devotion are definitely this man’s love language. He’s just trying to show you how much he cares in the only way he knows how, so please squeeze your arms around his waist and grip onto the broad expanse of his back, because it’s the best way for him to understand that you return the sentiment.
The two of you usually spend your shore leave together: either the two of you find a random, deserted planet and do your best to spend the time curled up asleep on the shore of a serene beach, or he takes you back to Glasgow to visit Fran since she loves you so much.
He pretends, fervently, that he’s not incredibly dependent on you being around, but bruh. If the plans ever need to change, or you receive a message on your communication device about an emergency situation back at Starfleet you’re being sent for, Scotty will act really mopey and upset for the rest of the trip because he truly misses your company so much.

Can I just say that there is a lack of Scotty stuff on here 😟. There definitely needs to be more.
(EDIT: I wrote a oneshot that kinda follows this idea)
Imagine your ex is the newest member aboard the Enterprise and works under Scotty. Imagine one day, Scotty overhears your ex saying that he was gonna try to get back with you. Now imagine Scotty, who has liked you for quite a while but has been too nervous to say anything gets jealous and immediately just blurts out that the two of you are dating and your ex would be wise to leave you alone...Imagine this news spreads rather quickly throughout the ship, eventually making it's way back to you.

Star Trek: Planetary Perception and Pursuit, Episode 17: Starfleet Shore Leave Facility
Uhura, her heart swelling with gratitude for the reprieve, takes a moment to soak in the playful atmosphere. She approaches the group, her smile radiant. "I think it's time for a little singing competition, don't you?" she suggests, her eyes dancing with excitement. "Let's see who has the most versatile voice in the galaxy!"
Her proposal is met with a chorus of cheers and laughter, and the crew begins to gather around, eager to participate or simply enjoy the music. The air fills with the sound of instruments materializing from the walls, each tuned to the preferences of the individuals present. Kirk grabs a guitar, Spock a Vulcan lute, and McCoy a set of panpipes. Even Scotty, his usual engineering tools replaced by a pair of bagpipes, joins in the merriment.
The night unfolds in a symphony of laughter and music, the Heart of Unity orchid's light casting a warm glow over the impromptu jam session. They sing and dance, their voices and instruments weaving together in a tapestry of friendship and unity, a stark contrast to the looming shadow of the cosmic adversary Athena had foretold.
For a brief moment, the crew of the Enterprise forgets their responsibilities, their hearts light with the joy of their shared experiences. They are not just officers of Starfleet, but a family, bound by more than just duty. They are the embodiment of the peace they strive to bring to the galaxy, and in this place of fun and laughter, they find the strength to face whatever the future holds.
Nyota Uhura, feeling the weight of Athena's words, allows herself a moment of respite. She glides across the floor of the Shore Leave Facility's grand ballroom, her movements fluid and graceful, matching the rhythm of the vibrant music that fills the air. Her eyes meet Sulu's, and a shared smile passes between them, a silent acknowledgment of their earlier connection.
They dance together, their bodies moving in perfect harmony, a testament to the unity that has been growing among them all. The warmth of their laughter and the playfulness of their steps bring a lightness to the room that had been missing amidst the trials they've faced.
Then, she notices Scotty watching from the sidelines, his eyes filled with a mix of happiness and something unspoken. Uhura's heart aches for the longing she sees in his gaze, knowing that he had witnessed her bond with Sulu. She makes her way over to him, extending a hand. "Dance with me, Scotty," she says gently, her voice a melody that transcends the music.
Scotty, ever the stoic engineer, hesitates for a moment before accepting her invitation. His eyes never leave hers as they twirl around the floor, the light from the Heart of Unity orchid playing across their faces. Despite the unspoken understanding that passes between them, there is no awkwardness, only a deep sense of friendship and shared purpose.
The dance floor becomes a microcosm of their larger mission, a place where differences are set aside in favor of unity. The music swells, and the light from the orchid brightens, reflecting the love and camaraderie that pulse through the veins of the Enterprise's crew. The Heart of Unity orchid seems to sing with them, its light a beacon that reminds them that even in the face of the unknown, they are stronger together.
Uhura, her gaze sweeping over the room, spots Scotty and Sulu, their faces alight with the joy of the moment. She taps her communicator. "Scotty, Sulu, come over here. I have an idea."
As they approach, she gestures to the dance floor, the light from the Heart of Unity orchid casting an ethereal glow on the gleaming surface. "Why don't you two show us some of those fancy moves I've heard so much about?" she suggests, her voice filled with mischief.
Scotty looks at her in surprise, his cheeks reddening slightly, while Sulu's eyes sparkle with excitement. "Now, Uhura, I'm not sure that's a good idea," Scotty protests, his Scottish brogue thick with embarrassment.
Sulu, ever the charmer, smiles and takes Scotty's hand. "Don't be shy, Mr. Scott," he says with a wink. "We're all friends here, and we've faced worse than a dance floor together."
With a laugh, Uhura nudges them both gently. "Go on," she insists. "The universe can wait for a few minutes."
Scotty, with a sigh of resignation, allows himself to be led onto the floor. The music shifts to a lively tune, and they begin to dance, their movements awkward at first but gradually growing more confident. The crew watches, their smiles widening as they see the two unlikely dance partners come alive in the light of unity.
The Heart of Unity orchid seems to pulse in time with their steps, its light growing brighter with each beat of the music. The dance becomes a celebration of their friendship, a silent promise that no matter what the future holds, they will face it together. The room fills with applause and cheers, the light of the orchid bathing them in its warm embrace.
For a brief moment, the cosmic battles and the weight of their mission fade away, and they are simply friends, sharing a dance in the heart of a starship. The light of the orchid seems to whisper a promise of its own: that as long as they remain united, they can conquer any challenge that lies ahead.
The music transitions to a slower tempo, and Sulu, with a flourish, dips Scotty dramatically. The engineer's eyes widen, but he plays along, the corners of his mouth turning up in a reluctant smile. The crew's applause crescendos, and even Kirk can't help but chuckle at the sight.
As they pull away from their dip, Scotty whispers to Sulu, "I dinnae know how you do it, laddie. You're always so...connected."
Sulu laughs, his voice light. "It's all about the rhythm, Scotty," he says, spinning him again. "And we've got the heart of the galaxy's unity backing us up."
The Heart of Unity orchid seems to agree, its light pulsing in time with their steps, a silent reminder of the strength they share as a team. As they dance, the room falls away, and it's just them, two friends sharing a moment of joy in the face of the cosmic unknown.
The music fades, and the crew gathers around, their laughter and cheers a testament to the power of unity. Kirk raises a glass in their direction. "To the stars," he says, his voice filled with pride. "And to the bonds that make us stronger than any force in the universe."
The crew toasts in unison, their eyes shining with determination and friendship. They know that whatever lies ahead, they will face it together, as one. The Heart of Unity orchid glows in response, its light a beacon of hope in the vastness of space, a symbol of their unshakeable bond.
Scotty, watching the graceful dance of Sulu and Uhura, feels a pang of inadequacy. His thoughts wander to his own life, so often consumed by the endless work of keeping the Enterprise running. "It's always like this," he muses to himself, "Sulu, living the high life, making connections so easily."
A shadow of doubt crosses his face, and he wonders if he could ever be worthy of someone like Sulu. The Heart of Unity orchid seems to sense his inner turmoil, its light flickering in response. He sighs, feeling the weight of his responsibilities and the distance from the carefree existence he sees reflected in the laughter and camaraderie around him.
But as the music changes and Sulu pulls him onto the dance floor, a realization dawns. Their friendship, their shared experiences, and the trust they've built are their own kind of dance, one that doesn't require perfection, just a willingness to step forward together.
Their awkward steps become a testament to their bond, a silent conversation that speaks louder than any words. The orchid's light bathes them, a gentle reminder that they are not alone, that their unity is their greatest strength.
As the dance goes on, Scotty's movements grow more assured, his eyes meeting Sulu's with a newfound confidence. In the warm embrace of the Heart of Unity orchid's light, he feels a swell of belonging, a sense that he is exactly where he is meant to be.
Their dance is not about being the best or the most graceful, but about the journey they've shared and the battles they've faced together. The orchid's light seems to whisper a truth to Scotty: that in the grand tapestry of the cosmos, every thread has its place, every person their worth.
As they sway to the music, surrounded by friends and colleagues, Scotty knows that he is a vital part of this crew, that his skills and his heart are as much a part of their unity as anyone else's. The light of the orchid shines brighter, a silent affirmation of his place among them.
Their dance is clumsy and beautiful, a reflection of their friendship. And as the music swells and the light envelops them, Scotty feels the warmth of belonging, a promise that in the face of the unknown, their unity will prevail.
Scotty's heart flutters as Sulu's strong arm guides him through the dance, their movements a symphony of friendship and trust. When Sulu dips him with surprising grace, a romantic moment unfolds amidst the laughter and camaraderie. The Heart of Unity orchid's light plays across their faces, highlighting the soft blush that creeps up Scotty's cheeks.
For a brief second, time seems to stand still, the only sound the thud of his own heart echoing in his ears. He feels the warmth of Sulu's hand in his, the gentle pressure of their bodies against each other, and the thrill of the shared experience.
Their eyes meet, and in that moment, the weight of the universe seems to fade away. All that remains is the music, the light, and the unspoken promise of their unity.
The orchid's glow envelops them as they rise from the dip, their faces reflecting the joy of the moment. The applause and cheers of their crewmates only serve to amplify the connection they share, a bond that transcends the confines of duty and protocol.
Scotty laughs, a sound that is part relief, part delight. "I dinnae know where you learned to dance like that, Sulu," he says, his voice thick with emotion.
Sulu smiles, his gaze warm and genuine. "Some things you just pick up along the way," he replies, his hand squeezing Scotty's gently. "But it's moments like these that make it all worthwhile."
Their dance continues, the Heart of Unity orchid casting a soft, pulsing light over them. It is a moment of pure happiness, a declaration of their shared strength and the unshakeable foundation of their friendship. As they twirl and step in time with the music, Scotty feels the warmth of the orchid's light seep into his very soul, filling him with hope and a quiet determination to face whatever challenges the cosmos may bring.
The music ends, and the crew's applause reaches a crescendo. Scotty and Sulu bow, grinning from ear to ear, their bond stronger than ever. The orchid's light fades, leaving a lingering warmth that fills the room, a silent promise that together, they can conquer the stars.
Uhura, watching the dance from the sidelines, feels a surge of affection for her friends. The Heart of Unity orchid's light seems to resonate with her own heart, and she knows that their bond is more than just a symbol; it is the very essence of who they are as a crew.
Her gaze lingers on Kirk, his eyes alight with mirth as he watches the impromptu performance. She approaches him, her hand reaching for his. "Care to join me, Captain?" she asks, her voice a siren's call that blends with the music.
Kirk's smile widens, and he takes her hand without hesitation. Together, they glide across the floor, their movements a silent conversation that speaks of trust and camaraderie. The orchid's light weaves around them, a visual representation of the unspoken words that pass between them.
Their dance is a dance of friendship, of shared triumphs and tragedies, of a bond that has been tested and never broken. As they twirl and dip, the light from the orchid seems to respond to their connection, growing brighter with every step.
The crew watches, their smiles a reflection of the warmth that fills the room. They know that the battles they face are not just Kirk's or Uhura's, but theirs as a whole. And as they move in harmony, the Heart of Unity orchid seems to sing with them, a gentle reminder that their collective strength is unbreakable.
The music fades, and the dancers come to a stop, their breaths mingling in the stillness. They stand together, a united front against the vastness of space. The orchid's light dims, but the warmth of their friendship remains, a beacon of hope in the dark void of the cosmos.
Uhura looks into Kirk's eyes, her own filled with determination. "Whatever comes our way," she says softly, "we'll face it together."
Kirk nods, his grip on her hand firm. "Always, Nyota," he replies.
Their shared look speaks volumes, a silent promise to stand by each other's side through thick and thin. The Heart of Unity orchid seems to nod in approval, its light pulsing gently, a silent affirmation of their unity.
And as the night wears on, the crew of the Enterprise continues to dance, laugh, and share stories, their hearts bound by the light of friendship and the promise of unity that guides their every step into the unknown.
Uhura observes Scotty's reaction to Sulu with a knowing smile. She had noticed the subtle glances and unspoken longing in their interactions, but she had hoped it was just her imagination. Now, as she watches the engineer's face light up during their dance, she knows for sure.
Her heart is torn. She and Sulu had just agreed to explore their feelings, and she didn't want to cause any pain or confusion. But she also knew that ignoring the situation wouldn't make it go away.
Approaching Scotty, she takes a deep breath. "Can I have a word, Mr. Scott?" she asks gently, her voice a soft melody that cuts through the chatter of the party.
They step aside, the Heart of Unity orchid's light casting a soft glow around them, creating a private bubble amidst the revelry. "I know you've had your eye on Sulu," she says, her eyes searching his. "And I think it's beautiful, truly."
Scotty's cheeks flush, his eyes darting away from hers. "I dinnae know what you're talking about, Uhura," he mumbles, his Scottish accent thick with embarrassment.
Uhura takes his hand, her eyes filled with empathy. "Scotty, I see you," she says, her voice earnest. "And I want you to know that your feelings are valid. But Sulu and I have also...found something."
The silence stretches between them, filled with the soft hum of the orchid's light. Scotty looks at her, his gaze a mix of hope and pain. "Does this mean..."
"It means," she says, her voice steady, "that we're all friends here, and that friendship is the strongest bond of all. And if that friendship can evolve into something more, then so be it. But for now, let's just enjoy the night, shall we?"
Scotty nods, his eyes glistening. "Aye," he murmurs. "For now."
The Heart of Unity orchid seems to understand the unspoken conversation, its light pulsing in gentle acceptance. They stand together, watching the dance floor, their hearts entwined by the light of unity. The orchid's glow is a silent reminder that love comes in many forms, and their friendship is a testament to the strength of their collective bond.
For now, they stand as friends, their hearts open to the possibilities of the future. They know that whatever happens, they will face it together, as a united crew, bound by the light of unity that shines within each of them.
As the music shifts to a slower, more intimate melody, Scotty feels the weight of his emotions. He watches as Uhura approaches him, her eyes filled with a warmth that brings tears to his eyes. He tries to blink them away, not wanting to spoil the moment, but they cling stubbornly, a testament to the depth of his feelings.
Uhura, ever perceptive, notices the unshed tears and takes his hand. "Let's dance," she says softly, her voice a gentle caress that echoes the tender notes of the music.
He nods, allowing her to lead him onto the dance floor. As they move together, her steps sure and graceful, Scotty feels the burden of his unspoken love for Sulu begin to lift. The Heart of Unity orchid's light seems to understand his pain, its glow enveloping them in a warm embrace.
Uhura's touch is light, her movements deliberate, as if she is trying to weave laughter into the very fabric of his soul. Her smile is infectious, and soon he finds himself smiling in return, the tears retreating as laughter bubbles up from within.

The music swells, and the light from the Heart of Unity orchid seems to pulse in time with their hearts. Scotty feels the warmth of their friendship, a balm to his soul. The tears are gone, replaced by the lightness of laughter and the promise of a future filled with unity and love, in whatever form it may take.
The dance floor becomes a place of healing, a sanctuary where the three friends find solace in each other's company. The orchid's light shines on, a beacon of hope and understanding in the vastness of space, reminding them that together, they are unstoppable.
Uhura notices Scotty's subdued mood and approaches him with a gentle touch. She suggests a new activity to lift his spirits, something that would bring the crew closer together. Uhura, noticing Scotty's subdued mood, decides to take action. She whispers to Sulu, "I have an idea," and then drags both him and Janice Rand to the stage. The Heart of Unity orchid's light shifts, curiosity and anticipation pulsing through its petals.
"Ladies and gentlemen," she announces into the microphone, her voice ringing out clear and strong, "please welcome our next act, the 'Galactic Giggle-Worms'!"

The Heart of Unity orchid seems to sense their intent, its light shifting to a playful hue as they sneak away from the dance floor. They enter a secluded part of the ship, where Uhura has set up a surprise.
"Welcome to the 'Uhura's Comedy Corner'," she says, gesturing to a makeshift stage with a glittering curtain. "We're going to put on a show that'll make everyone forget their troubles, including you, Mr. Scott."

Uhura, noticing the weight on Scotty's shoulders, decides to act. She gently takes his hand and pulls him away from the dance floor, a mischievous twinkle in her eye. "Come on, Scotty," she whispers, "I've got a surprise that'll put a smile on that face."
The Heart of Unity orchid seems to approve, casting a knowing glow as they navigate through the ship's corridors. They pass by the arcade, where Sulu and Chekov are locked in a fierce game of intergalactic pinball, and the mess hall, where McCoy is regaling a group with tales of his medical escapades. Finally, they arrive at a cozy, dimly lit room that Uhura has transformed into a miniature theater.
"Welcome to 'Uhura's Comedy Cabaret'," she announces with a flourish. "Tonight's feature: the one and only... Scotty!"
Scotty's jaw drops as Janice and Sulu pop out from behind the curtain, both grinning from ear to ear. Janice has prepared a series of comedic skits, tailored to lift Scotty's spirits. They perform a hilarious play on engineering jargon, turning technical terms into a dance of wit and slapstick. Lass, I cannae thank ye enough for this night. I see now, everything ye've done here in the Shore Leave Facility, it's all been for me. The dance, the comedy... ye've gone out of yer way to make sure I felt seen and cared for. It's more than I could've ever asked for.
He looks around the room, his eyes shining with gratitude. The Heart of Unity orchid's light seems to reflect the warmth in his heart, a gentle reminder that their friendship is a powerful force in the vastness of space.
Meanwhile, Spock is in the ship's library, surrounded by the glow of the Heart of Unity orchid's light, which has found its way into this sanctum of knowledge. He's engrossed in a Vulcan tome, the ancient script flickering with the same shade of blue as the orchid's glow. His fingers trace the pages, lost in the logical poetry of his ancestors.
He looks up, his gaze distant as he ponders over the complexities of emotions. The orchid's light seems to pulse with his thoughts, a silent companion in his quest for understanding. A rare smile graces his lips as he considers the illogical yet beautiful nature of the friendships he's formed on this voyage.
The sounds of laughter from the talent show drift into the library, serving as a gentle backdrop to his contemplation. He closes the book and stands, deciding to join the festivities. After all, even a Vulcan can appreciate the unity found in shared joy.
Meanwhile, Captain Kirk has decided to indulge in a bit of whimsy in the holodeck. He's donned an old-fashioned pirate's hat and is navigating through a digital sea, surrounded by swashbuckling adventurers and mythical creatures. His eyes sparkle with the same mischief that's become synonymous with his captaincy.
The Heart of Unity orchid's light filters into the holodeck, casting a playful glow on the simulated water and wooden planks beneath his feet. He's engaged in a swordfight with a holographic sea monster, his every parry and thrust echoing with the laughter of his crew from the talent show.
The holodeck's walls shift and morph around him, creating a fantastical world where the laws of physics are merely suggestions. Yet amidst the chaos, Kirk remains a beacon of unity, his heart full of the joy that comes from knowing his crew is together, sharing in the celebration of their friendship.
The Heart of Unity orchid's light dances around him, a silent cheer for his unwavering spirit. As he emerges victorious from the digital fray, the orchid's light seems to congratulate him, a reminder that no matter the adventure, the true treasure is the bond they share. Kirk wipes the virtual sweat from his brow and chuckles to himself, ready to rejoin his friends and continue their journey through the stars.
"Aye aye, pirate captain Kirk," Chekov calls out, a grin tugging at his lips. Several crew members, including Sulu, Janice, and a few of the engineering team, have gathered on the makeshift stage. Armed with pillows from the ship's supply, they're launching a barrage of feathery projectiles at the sea monster, their laughter filling the room as they bob and weave to avoid the creature's retaliatory splashes.
The Heart of Unity orchid's light shifts to a playful hue, watching over the impromptu battle with amusement. The pillows, seemingly innocuous, are in fact cleverly designed to mimic the weight and feel of photon torpedoes, making the whole escapade feel like a playful skirmish in the cosmic ballet of friendship.
Their antics are met with cheerful jeers from the audience, who are enjoying the light-hearted display of camaraderie. The orchid's light flutters with each hit, a silent applause for their teamwork. The monster, a holographic construct designed for the entertainment of the shore leave attendees, is programmed to retreat when sufficiently 'defeated', allowing the crew to revel in their victory over the faux foe.
The sight of his crew, united in laughter and light-hearted competition, brings a warmth to Kirk's heart. He knows that moments like these are the true treasures of their adventures, the moments that remind them of their shared humanity amidst the cold vastness of space.
Kirk, with a dramatic flourish, leaps from the holodeck's plank into the fray, his pirate hat askew. "Have at thee, sea monster!" he shouts, brandishing an inflatable cutlass. "For the honor of...Princess Cupcake!"
The Heart of Unity orchid's light flickers in delight, the very air around it seeming to chuckle at the absurdity of the scene. The crew's laughter reaches a crescendo as they watch their captain, a legendary figure in Starfleet, gallantly jousting with a creature of pure imagination.
The sea monster, a holographic whirl of tentacles and teeth, lunges towards Kirk, only to be met with a swift jab of the inflatable sword. The creature's digital eyes cross comically before it splits into a hundred harmless bubbles, popping in a shower of light.
The Heart of Unity orchid's light shimmers with excitement, casting a festive glow across the room. The crew's cheers are a testament to their unity and shared experience. Kirk, landing with a grace that belies his exuberance, bows deeply before his adoring audience.
The moment is frozen in time, a snapshot of friendship and unity that will be remembered long after the laughter has faded. The Heart of Unity orchid's light seems to whisper a promise that no matter the battles they face, their bond will be the beacon that guides them home.
Kirk straightens, the light of victory in his eyes as he sheathes his inflatable blade. "I have defeated it!" he declares to the cheering crowd. "And now, my dear princess," he turns to Janice, who giggles demurely, "will you grant me a boon?"
The room goes quiet, the air charged with anticipation. Janice, caught in the spirit of the game, giggles and nods, her eyes sparkling. "Aye, Captain," she says, "what boon would you ask?"
Kirk steps closer, his eyes twinkling. "A dance, fair maiden," he says, extending his hand. "For I've conquered the seven seas and all I wish for is to share this victory with thee."
The audience erupts into laughter and applause as Janice accepts his hand, allowing herself to be led into a whimsical dance. The Heart of Unity orchid's light dances around them, a silent celebration of their friendship.
The music swells, and the rest of the crew joins in, each pairing off in a merry dance that mirrors the chaotic patterns of the stars outside their ship's windows. The orchid's light weaves through them all, a symbol of the unity they've found in friendship and shared adventure.
The night is a celebration of life and love, a declaration that in the face of the unknown, they stand together, united by the light of friendship. The Heart of Unity orchid's glow is a promise that no matter the challenges they face, their bond will be the compass that guides them through the cosmos.
The dance floor is a spectacle of merriment as Kirk and Janice lead the way, their "dance" more akin to comical tumbling than any formal routine. The crew laughs as they try to mimic their captain's exaggerated moves, the Heart of Unity orchid's light bobbing and weaving in time with their clumsy pirouettes.
Spock, having left the library, watches with an arched eyebrow, his Vulcan stoicism barely containing his amusement. Even he is drawn into the dance, his movements precise and calculated, yet filled with a newfound lightness that the orchid seems to appreciate.
The Heart of Unity orchid's light grows stronger, casting a playful glow across the room. It seems to encourage the dancers, their laughter and joy resonating within its delicate petals. The music shifts, and suddenly the dance turns into a game of cosmic tag, with the light as the 'it' that no one can quite catch.
The orchid's light darts from person to person, a silent chuckle echoing through the arboretum. The crew's laughter is a symphony of unity, each giggle and guffaw a note that strengthens the melody of their friendship. As the light touches each of them, their movements become more synchronized, their hearts beating in unison.
In that moment, the Enterprise isn't just a ship. It's a stage for the grandest performance of all: the ballet of friendship. And as they dance under the watchful eye of the Heart of Unity, the crew knows that together, they can conquer any challenge the universe throws their way.
Captain, should we raise the sails and make for the rainbow?
Kirk's eyes light up at the suggestion. "Aye, Mr. Sulu," he says with a grin. "Plot a course for the heart of the galaxy. Let's see if we can't find the pot of gold at the end of it."
The crew, still laughing and breathless from their dance, nod in agreement. They know that the journey ahead will be fraught with danger and intrigue, but with the Heart of Unity orchid as their guide, they're ready for anything.
The Heart of Unity orchid's light seems to pulse with excitement, as if eager to show them the way. The crew, bolstered by the orchid's presence, disperses to their stations, ready to boldly go where no one has gone before.
The simulated deck of the pirate ship lurches violently, sending everyone tumbling from one side to the other. The crew, still dressed in their comical pirate garb, flails their arms in an exaggerated fashion, their laughter echoing through the arboretum. It's as if they're riding the wildest rollercoaster in the galaxy, except the track is the fabric of space itself.
The rainbow looms ahead, a beacon of promise and whimsy in the vast expanse of stars. Yet, no matter how valiantly they "sail," the rainbow seems to stretch away from them, an ever-elusive goal. The Heart of Unity orchid's light arcs over the scene, a silent narrator to their absurd adventure.
The ship bucks and dips, mimicking the tumultuous waves of a stormy sea. Pillows and feathers from their earlier battle with the sea monster are tossed about like confetti in a hurricane. The laughter turns to shouts of excitement as they hold onto the makeshift rigging, the thrill of the chase invigorating their spirits.
But as they tumble back and forth, the rainbow never seems to draw closer. It's a cosmic tease, a reminder that sometimes the journey is more important than the destination. The Heart of Unity orchid's light flickers in time with their exaggerated movements, a silent cheer for their unflagging spirits.
The dance of light and shadow continues, the crew's unity a stark contrast to the chaos around them. They're a tapestry of friendship, woven together by the threads of laughter and camaraderie. And even as the rainbow stays just out of reach, the light of the orchid fills their hearts, reminding them that their bond is the true treasure.
Captain Kirk, in his pirate's hat, points dramatically at the shimmering rainbow. "I'll shoot that rainbow down!" he declares, aiming his inflatable sword at the colorful arch. His voice is filled with the same determination that has led them through countless battles and diplomatic missions.
The crew laughs harder, their cheers mixing with the sound of the orchid's light as it darts around the room. They know he's joking, but they also know that if anyone could find a way to conquer the unconquerable, it would be their fearless captain.
The Heart of Unity orchid's light seems to take the challenge seriously, pulsing a vibrant blue as it joins Kirk's make-believe shot. The rainbow doesn't fall, but the room is filled with a sudden burst of light, as if the orchid has sent a shower of stardust in response to their collective joy.
The game goes on, the rainbow ever-elusive, but the real victory is in the unity they've found. Each step they take, each laugh they share, each time they come together in friendship, they're not just a crew - they're a family. And as they dance under the stars, with the Heart of Unity orchid as their guiding star, they know that nothing can ever truly separate them.
Captain, should we load the cannons with humor and hope, or perhaps a sprinkle of stardust from the Heart of Unity orchid itself? For in this whimsical quest for the rainbow's end, it seems our most potent weapon is the laughter that brings us together, the very essence of our unity!
The crew erupts into another round of laughter at the absurdity of the suggestion. Yet, in the midst of their playful banter, there's a kernel of truth. Their unity is indeed their strongest weapon, the one thing that can conquer any challenge the universe throws their way.
The Heart of Unity orchid seems to agree, its light pulsing brighter at the mention of using humor and hope. It's a gentle reminder that sometimes, in the face of the unknowable, the most logical response is to hold onto the things that make them human.
With a collective nod, they reload their "cannons" with good cheer and camaraderie, aiming for the heart of the galaxy. The rainbow shimmers and sways, but it's no longer a taunt. It's a promise of the adventures that await, a symbol of the boundless horizon of friendship and unity.
And as they "sail" on, their laughter the only sound in the vastness of space, the Heart of Unity orchid's light dances with them, a silent promise that no matter the storms they face, they'll always find their way home. To the heart of the galaxy, to the warmth of their friendship, and to the end of the rainbow.
Kirk's eyes sparkle with mischief as he looks around the room, surveying his crew. "Ahoy, mates!" he calls out. "The person who laughs the hardest at our next joke shall be loaded into the cannon and shot straight to the treasure at the rainbow's end!"
The room goes still, the air thick with anticipation. The Heart of Unity orchid's light flickers, as if holding its breath in suspense. Then, the captain's voice rings out, a terrible, terrible pun that sends the crew into a fit of hysterics.
Chekov, his cheeks red with mirth, is the first to collapse onto the floor, clutching his stomach. His laughter is contagious, spreading through the room like wildfire. The Heart of Unity orchid's light flutters with excitement, as if it too is caught up in the joy of the moment.
As the laughter subsides, Kirk offers a hand to help Chekov to his feet. "Looks like you've won the honor, Mr. Chekov," he says with a wink. "Prepare to be our cannonball of comedy!"
The crew's chuckles build into full-blown laughter once more, the Heart of Unity orchid's light pulsing in a warm, golden hue. They know that the rainbow's treasure is a fleeting, whimsical thing, but the treasure of their friendship is eternal. And with that, they continue their dance, their laughter echoing through the stars.
Kirk, with a twinkle in his eye, points at Chekov. "Onward, my trusty comrade!" he says, mimicking the act of firing a cannon. Chekov, caught in the spirit of the game, leaps into the air as if propelled by an invisible force. He stretches out his arms, pretending to grasp the rainbow as he sails through the space created by the Heart of Unity orchid's light.
The crew watches in amazement as Chekov's laughter seems to anchor him to the rainbow, his fingertips brushing against the shimmering colors. The Heart of Unity orchid's light responds, enveloping him in a gentle embrace, a silent cheer for his courage and humor.
For a brief moment, it seems as though Chekov has truly reached the unreachable, his joy a tangible force that bridges the gap between the real and the imagined. The orchid's light shimmers with delight, a silent testament to the power of their unity and the boundless nature of their friendship.
And as they all watch, breathless, the rainbow seems to bend, drawing closer to the ship. It's a reminder that sometimes, the greatest treasures are the ones you find when you're not looking, the ones that come from the most unexpected places.
The Heart of Unity orchid's light dims slightly, as if it's sharing in the awe of the moment. The crew knows that the real treasure isn't gold or jewels, but the love and camaraderie they share on this starship. And with that, they continue their dance, their hearts as one, forever bound by the light of their friendship.
Captain, as I gaze into the vast expanse of the cosmos, I do indeed perceive a glittering prize at the rainbow's end. But, pray tell, what could be more precious than the golden warmth of camaraderie? The essence of our quest has transformed! The pot of gold is not gold at all, but rather a barrel of hearty laughter, brimming with tales of friendship and unity! And as for the treasure, it's not material wealth that shines so brightly, but the liquid warmth of good cheer! Prepare to be showered in the cosmic nectar of companionship and jovial spirits! The Heart of Unity orchid has bestowed upon us a map not of stars, but of shared moments that outshine any gold! Let us set sail for the boundless sea of friendship, where the treasure of our bond shall be celebrated with a toast to the stars! Huzzah!
Chekov, ever the eager pirate, swaggers over to a barrel with a knowing wink. He opens it with a flourish, revealing a bottle of rum with flakes of gold suspended within its amber depths. The liquid sloshes with a metallic glint, a testament to the whimsical nature of their quest.
With a mischievous grin, he pours the golden rum into waiting mugs, the flakes catching the light of the Heart of Unity orchid. "Ahoy, me hearties!" he calls out. "Drink up, for we've struck gold in the richest vein of all: our friendship!"
The rum is passed around, the glittering flakes catching the light as it sloshes from cup to cup. Each sip is a toast to their unity, a celebration of the bonds that have carried them through the stars. And as they drink, the Heart of Unity orchid's light seems to resonate with the warmth of their shared laughter, the gold in their cups a symbol of the riches they've found in each other.
The Heart of Unity orchid's light dances around them, the golden flakes in their drinks creating a dazzling display. They clink their mugs together, the sound ringing through the arboretum like a chime of victory. The orchid's light weaves among them, a silent witness to their unbreakable bond.
The night stretches out before them, an endless horizon of stars and adventure. But in the warm embrace of friendship, they've found the most precious treasure of all. The Heart of Unity orchid's light shines down upon them, a beacon of unity in the vastness of space. And as they drink to their friendship, the rainbow seems to bend closer, a silent nod to the power of their shared spirit.
Kirk, his pirate's hat askew, takes Janice's hand in his. "Now, my dearest, fairest, most bewitching of all the seven seas, will you grant me the sweetest kiss under this starlit sky?"
Janice giggles, the light of the Heart of Unity orchid playing across her features. "Oh Captain," she says, feigning coyness. "You know my heart belongs to the stars and the ship we sail upon."
Janice, her eyes sparkling with mirth, leans down and kisses the deck of the pirate ship with exaggerated passion. The sound echoes through the arboretum, punctuating the laughter of the crew. Each smack of her lips on the planking sends the Heart of Unity orchid's light rippling outwards, as if the ship itself is blushing at the display.
The crew erupts into a chorus of "Ahoy!" and "Arrr!" as Janice continues her dramatic kisses. The Heart of Unity orchid's light flutters with amusement, casting a warm glow over the scene. The playfulness of the moment underscores the depth of their friendship, a reminder that even in the most serious of times, they can find joy in their shared humanity.
The rainbow seems to lean closer, as if drawn by Janice's affectionate assault on the deck. The room fills with the scent of the orchid's light, a heady perfume that mingles with the sweetness of their laughter. The Heart of Unity orchid's light flutters around them, a silent cheer for their camaraderie.
Spock, ever the stoic Vulcan, raises an eyebrow at the display. But even he can't resist the infectious mirth. He steps forward, taking the pirate hat from Kirk's head. "Captain, I believe it is my turn to claim the treasure of Janice's affection," he says, his voice devoid of emotion but his eyes gleaming with humor.
Kirk laughs, slapping Spock on the back. "Go ahead, old friend," he says, a warm smile playing on his lips. "But remember, I'll be watching."
Spock takes Janice's hand, his movements surprisingly graceful for someone in a pirate costume. He bows his head slightly, the very picture of Vulcan dignity. Then, with a twinkle in his eye, he leans down and kisses her hand, the gesture as chaste as it is gallant.
The Heart of Unity orchid's light flutters around them, a silent applause for their friendship. The room seems to brighten, the laughter and joy amplified by the orchid's response. The crew watches, their hearts full of camaraderie and the warmth of shared moments.
The rainbow stretches closer, the colors more vivid than ever before. It's as if the universe itself is celebrating their bond, their friendship a beacon in the vastness of space.
McCoy, watching the playful exchange with a fond smile, decides to add his own twist to the drama. "Now, now, don't be hasty, Captain," he says, his Southern drawl thick with mock severity. "Let's not forget who the real treasure here is. Spock, I've seen through your Vulcan facade! You're not the stoic science officer you claim to be. No, you're a pirate at heart, and I demand you release Janice from your clutches!"
He stomps over, his pirate boots echoing in the arboretum. His eyes dance with mischief as he reaches for Janice's hand, pulling her away from Spock. "I am the great and terrible wizard McCoy, and I lay claim to this fair lady's kiss!"
The room erupts into laughter once more, the Heart of Unity orchid's light pulsing with delight. Janice, caught between the two friends, giggles, her eyes sparkling with the light of the orchid. "Oh, Dr. McCoy," she says, playing along. "You're the most bewitching buccaneer I've ever laid eyes on!"
The crew roars with laughter as McCoy puffs out his chest, clearly enjoying the attention. Kirk claps his hands together, his own laughter joining the chorus. "Looks like we've got ourselves a bona fide battle for Janice's heart!" he shouts, raising his mug of golden rum. "May the best pirate win!"
The Heart of Unity orchid's light darts between Kirk and McCoy, as if it's placing a bet on the outcome. The rainbow seems to curve closer, the treasure at its end a tantalizing prize for their friendship.
Dr. McCoy, with a glint in his eye and a wizard's hat perched atop his head, raises his free hand, which clutches a ridiculous, oversized pirate's weapon that seems to have been made for a child's costume. In the other hand, he waves a slender wand, adorned with glittering stars and a tiny, fluttering flag. He points it at Spock, who has a look of bemusement etched on his face.
"Ah, but I have the power of the cosmos on my side!" McCoy declares, his voice a blend of dramatic flair and Southern charm. He sends a burst of what he calls "magic" toward Spock, his hand moving in an exaggerated arc. Spock, ever the logical Vulcan, simply leans backward at an impossible angle, his feet still firmly planted on the ground. The crew gasps, and then bursts into laughter as he narrowly avoids toppling over.
The Heart of Unity orchid's light dances around them, weaving a tapestry of friendship in the air. The golden flakes in their drinks catch the light, casting a warm glow across the room. It's a moment of pure, unadulterated joy, a reminder that even in the face of the unknown, their bond is unshakeable.
"Ah, Spock, my dear, stoic friend," McCoy says, the mirth in his voice unmistakable. "The next time we find ourselves in the frosty embrace of an ice rink, I shall indeed remind you of the limbo competition. I dare say you'd be a sight to behold, bending your stiff Vulcan spine in such a...flexible manner!"
The room fills with the sound of the crew's laughter, the Heart of Unity orchid's light flickering in time with their mirth. Spock's expression remains unchanged, but his eyes twinkle with the barest hint of amusement. "Indeed, Dr. McCoy," he replies, his voice as dry as a Martian desert. "I look forward to the challenge."
The light from the orchid seems to respond to their banter, growing brighter, as if feeding off their friendship. The rainbow's treasure seems to quiver with anticipation, the air charged with the electricity of their camaraderie.
Their laughter resonates through the ship, a testament to the bonds they've forged across the stars. It's clear that no matter what adventures or trials lie ahead, the Enterprise crew will face them together, their hearts forever entwined by the light of unity.
Janice, caught in the whirlwind of good-natured rivalry, clings to Spock's arm, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "You know, Captain," she says, her voice a mix of teasing and affection, "I think our dear Science Officer here might have found his calling as a pirate after all!"
Spock, with Janice's hand in his, holds her close, his gaze never leaving hers. The Heart of Unity orchid's light flickers around them, a silent affirmation of their shared history and the trust they've built. The rainbow's treasure seems to pulse with the beat of their hearts, the colors more vivid than ever before.
Their friends gather around, their laughter a warm embrace that fills the arboretum. The orchid's light shimmers with joy, reflecting off the gold in their drinks and casting a glow upon their faces. It's a moment of pure, unfiltered friendship, a treasure more valuable than any starship or alien artifact.
The playful magic fight escalates, with Janice wrapping herself around Spock, using his sturdy frame as a shield from McCoy's playful incantations. Her laughter is a delightful melody that weaves through the air, melding with the orchid's light. Spock's arms instinctively encircle her, his eyes never leaving hers, as if to say, "Together, we shall conquer even the most whimsical of foes."
McCoy, his wand waving with dramatic flair, sends a shower of glittering sparks that Spock effortlessly deflects with his rapier wit. "Your spells are no match for Vulcan logic, McCoy," he quips, the corners of his mouth lifting in a rare smile.
The Heart of Unity orchid's light dances around the trio, spinning and twirling in a kaleidoscope of color, as if celebrating their friendship's victory over any challenge, real or imagined. The rainbow seems to lean in closer, its treasure reflecting the warmth of their shared moments.
Captain Kirk, his pirate hat slightly askew, raises his mug high in the air. "Alright, you scurvy dogs," he declares, his voice booming with laughter. "I surrender! The princess is yours, Spock, and I concede the treasure to the mighty wizard McCoy!"
The crew roars their approval, their mirth echoing through the arboretum. Janice releases herself from Spock's embrace and takes Kirk's hand, spinning him around in a circle. The Heart of Unity orchid's light swirls around them, a living, breathing symbol of their unity.
The rainbow's treasure seems to hover before them, a shimmering mirage of friendship and camaraderie. It's a moment of pure triumph, not over an enemy or a cosmic quandary, but over the distances that once separated them. They've conquered the vastness of space, but it's their hearts that hold the true riches.
The Heart of Unity orchid's light envelops them, a golden aura that seems to grow brighter with every shared laugh, every teasing glance. It's a reminder that together, they are more than the sum of their parts, that friendship is the most potent weapon in their arsenal.
Janice, her laughter bubbling over like a fountain of starlit joy, looks at Kirk and McCoy with a mischievous twinkle in her eye. "Ah, but what you don't know is that I am secretly not the damsel in distress, the fairy-tale princess you seek," she says, her voice dropping to a conspiratorial whisper. "No, I am... I am the legendary Pirate Queen Janice the Merciless!"
The room goes quiet for a beat, and then erupts into laughter once more. Kirk and McCoy exchange glances, feigned shock and horror painted on their faces. Spock's eyebrow arches, his own mirth barely contained. The Heart of Unity orchid's light seems to pulse with the rhythm of their collective heartbeat, growing stronger with each beat.
The rainbow's treasure glitters, as if the cosmos itself is applauding their friendship. The Enterprise, their home among the stars, feels alive with the warmth of their bond. It's a treasure hunt of the heart, and they've found the most precious jewel of all: the enduring friendship that transcends time and space.
The Heart of Unity orchid's light swells around them, a testament to their unity. They may not have found gold at the rainbow's end, but they've uncovered something far more valuable: the golden threads that bind them together as one unstoppable crew.
Janice's ship, a magnificent galleon that seemed to have been plucked straight from the pages of a seafaring tale, rises majestically from the depths of the holodeck's "ocean." Cannons roar to life, their fiery muzzles belching forth a barrage of glittering confetti. However, instead of raining down upon the unsuspecting pirates, the projectiles seem to have a mind of their own. They pirouette in the air, each one homing in on Janice as she nimbly darts and weaves through the arcade of whimsical weaponry.
Her laughter rings out, a siren's call that fills the room with joy as she evades the confetti with the grace of a gazelle. The Heart of Unity orchid's light mimics the trajectory of the confetti, swirling around Janice in a dizzying dance of friendship. The crew watches, their laughter echoing the symphony of the orchid's light, as the "cannonballs" harmlessly bounce off her pirate's hat and ricochet away.
The sight is so ludicrous, so utterly unexpected, that even the stoic Spock allows a smile to tug at the corners of his lips. McCoy doubles over, his laughter a warm, infectious sound that fills the arboretum. The Heart of Unity orchid seems to revel in their delight, its light pulsing in time with their laughter.
The rainbow's treasure, once a distant goal, now feels like a tangible presence among them. The light from the orchid and the confetti from the cannons merge, creating a swirling maelstrom of color and joy that seems to envelop the crew. They've found their true treasure, not in gold or jewels, but in the unbreakable bond that has carried them through the stars.
The Heart of Unity orchid's light swells, a golden beacon that pierces the rainbow's heart. It's a celebration of their unity, a declaration that together, they are an unstoppable force of friendship and camaraderie.
The "cannonballs" of confetti continue their merry pursuit of Janice, each one a reminder of the shared moments that have brought them to this starlit night. The rainbow seems to stretch out before them, a bridge to whatever cosmic adventure awaits, and the treasure at its end is the promise of more laughter, more friendship, and more shared moments under the vast, ever-watchful gaze of the stars.
The crew's laughter crescendos, a chorus of joy that resonates through the ship. They've conquered not just the holodeck's whimsical challenge, but the very essence of what it means to be a family in the vastness of space. The Heart of Unity orchid's light, brighter than ever, seems to whisper a secret: that their bond is the real treasure, the true magic that makes the universe a little less lonely.
As the confetti settles, Janice winks at her friends. "It seems, my dear pirates, that the universe has a sense of humor," she says, her voice filled with warmth.
The grand finale of Janice's dramatic pirate performance reaches its climax as she dramatically cries, "and now, I die," and falls straight backwards into the water with a dramatic flourish. The crew holds their breath for a moment, only to watch in amazement as she resurfaces, her laughter bubbling up like a spring of pure joy. She frantically swims away, her movements a delightful mix of panic and playfulness.
The Heart of Unity orchid's light ripples outwards from her splash, the water's surface shimmering with a golden glow. It's as if the orchid itself is applauding her ingenuity. The rainbow's treasure seems to quiver with anticipation, the colors deepening, as if the cosmos itself is eager to see what comes next.
The crew erupts into applause, their laughter a crescendo that shakes the very stars. Kirk wipes a tear from his eye, his smile wide and genuine. "Ahoy, Janice," he calls out, his voice a warm embrace. "You truly are the Merciless!"
The rainbow's treasure seems to nod in agreement, the pot of gold at its end reflecting the light from the orchid. It's a moment of pure, unbridled friendship, a testament to the bonds they've forged in the crucible of adventure.
The Heart of Unity orchid's light swells, enveloping Janice in a warm embrace as she emerges from the water, her clothes drenched but her spirits high. She takes a bow, her pirate hat askew, her eyes sparkling with the light of the orchid. The rainbow seems to shimmer, the treasure within it reflecting the golden glow that now fills the arboretum.
They've found their treasure, not in gold or jewels, but in the shared moments that have made their journey through the cosmos so much richer. The Heart of Unity orchid's light dances around them, a living testament to their friendship's strength.
As Janice climbs back onto the makeshift stage, her friends gather around her, their smiles as bright as the stars that twinkle in the holodeck's simulated sky. They've faced danger, love, loss, and everything in between, but it's moments like these that remind them of what truly matters: the love and laughter that binds them as one.
The rainbow's treasure, once a distant dream, now feels so close they could almost reach out and touch it. It's a symbol of their unity, of the friendship that has carried them through so much. And as they stand together, their hearts beating as one, they know that no matter what the cosmos throws at them, they will always find their way back to each other.
The Heart of Unity orchid's light dims slightly, a knowing smile playing across its petals, as Janice's antics leave the crew of the Enterprise in stitches. They are now laughing too hard to continue the pirate-themed banter, their eyes watering, their chests heaving with the sheer joy of the moment. The rainbow's treasure seems to understand, its light pulsing in time with their laughter, as if sharing in the delight. The room is alive with the sound of friendship, the air thick with the warmth of shared memories and the promise of new adventures. The Heart of Unity orchid nods gently, its light fading for a brief moment before flaring back to life, basking in the glow of their camaraderie. It's a reminder that together, they are unstoppable, their bond a beacon in the vastness of space.
The next morning, the crew of the Enterprise wakes up in their quarters, feeling surprisingly well-rested despite their night of revelry. It's as if no time at all has passed since Athena led them into the holodeck for their unity training. The ship remains quiet, with the gentle hum of the engines a comforting lullaby that whispers of the safety of their floating home. The Starfleet Shore Leave Facility's tranquil ambiance has seamlessly blended into the fabric of the Enterprise, allowing them to rest without a care in the world.
The Heart of Unity orchid's light is a soft glow in the arboretum, a gentle reminder of the laughter and friendship that filled the room just hours before. The crew stretches and yawns, their spirits high as they prepare for the day ahead. The rainbow's treasure, now a fond memory, has left behind a sense of unity that seems to resonate within each of them.
They gather for breakfast, their conversations peppered with the echoes of their holodeck escapades. The air is light, the food is warm, and the coffee is strong. It's a new day, and with it comes the promise of new challenges, new worlds, and new friends. But today, they stand together, their hearts bound by the golden threads of friendship, ready to face whatever the cosmos throws their way.

I had this idea randomly and hear me out:
"The Elysian Kingdom" but TOS.
What I mean by this is that say the Kirk Enterprise Crew encounters something suspiciously close to the thing that made Spock, Uhura and Chapel lose 5 hours previously and being the absolute madman he is, Spock decides to be an idiot and study it up close.
Now at the same time there's a fairytale going around the Enterprise, either Nyota is regaling everyone with an awesome tale she learned trying to learn yet another alien language, it's just a basic Hans Christian Andersen tale etc. anyways! the nebula decides that it wants to make everything like that. So it does!
Cue Spock as the protagonist in a fantasy story with Prince Charming Kirk and White Knight McCoy. Bonus points if it's a McSpirk or even just a Spirk story.
But wouldn't that be so cool? Spock having to traverse through a fairytale-ified Enterprise but this time knowing what the hell is happening. Going to Chapel or Uhura for help only for the two of them to be like witches or Robin Hood-esque rogues.
I just think it'd be neat! Thanks for *hopefully* listening to this ramble of mine. I'll be here for the rest of time.

imagine being scotty in tos. every day your friend group goes on dangerous yet exciting adventures to new planets but you can never go because they always make you babysit the ship. also you have to stay on facetime with them the whole time in case they need a lift. you are the eternal designated driver. the seventh wheel. you dont mind as much as you should though because you sort of want to fuck the ship
#an a24 film#kidding i know babysitting the ship is his job and he loves it#i do think about scottu alot though because hes always excluded from the triumvirute and we can assume chekov uhura and sulu are all close#because they are bridge crew so scotty’s not as close to them either#no wonder scotty wants to fuck the ship#hes the seventh wheel:(#i guess he can hang with bones if you belive the mcscott shippers#still i would not want to be scotty even though he is baller af#he has no bestie on the enterprise except the warp drive#i didnt think i had this many thoughts about scotty#weird#star trek tos#tos#montgomery scott#scotty tos#star trek#jim kirk#spock#bones mccoy#the triumvirate

The Betrayal of Irritation: Part 1 of my thoughts on Star Trek TMP. The "Spirk divorce arc" in Star Trek TMP is not new, or unexpected, or a surprise. It starts in TOS, with Requiem for Methuselah. A theory. Long post again!
I just finished watching the Original Series, followed by The Motion Picture, and holy fuck the two are SO interconnected. But the timing makes it really confusing.
There was about a ten-year-gap in real life between the end of TOS and the start of TMP. And yet, the wounds of failed Spirk appear to still be completely unhealed at the start of the movie.
The movie itself denotes at least a two-and-a-half year gap since Kirk was last aboard the Enterprise. (Kirk tells Scotty, "two and a half years as Chief of Starfleet Operations may have made me stale, but I wouldn't exactly consider myself untried." Decker reiterates this time period by saying Kirk hasn't logged a single star hour in two and a half years.) It could have been more time since Kirk and Spock last saw each other, but it's unclear.
There is a lot of discussion akin to "Why are the characters acting so weird in Season 3?" as well as "What the hell happened between the series and the movie that made Spock run off to kolinahr like that?" I actually think that there is no missing information; rather, these two questions are connected. In fact, both questions have the same answer. Here is my theory:
1
In my opinion, Season One of TOS doesn't start at the very beginning of the five-year mission.
Season One does not start with everyone boarding the ship for the first time and meeting their roommates. The relationships between the characters are already far too well developed to be brand new. Think of the fact that by episode 2 (Charlie X) Kirk is already saying, "I need him" of Spock.

By episode 4 (The Naked Time) Spock is offering to Kirk a thinly veiled confession of love tainted by repression and internalized homophobia ("Jim, when I feel friendship for you, I'm ashamed"), during which they slap each other repeatedly (keeping in mind that physical fighting is a stand-in for sexual intimacy in this show. My personal theory is that their serious relationship starts around Amok Time, but there is definitely something already happening there).
By episode 7 (What Are Little Girls Made Of?), Spock trusts and knows Kirk intimately enough to identify a well-disguised Kirk imposter in just two key words ("half-breed interference"); two hurtful words that he not only understands as not Kirk, but actually somehow a secret message from the real Kirk.

These are not newly acquainted coworkers. I posit that the three years of TOS are not an exact one-to-one correlation to the first three years of the five year mission. My theory is that the two years that are missing are actually towards the beginning, not at the end.
(Disclaimer: I have not yet seen TAS, which, from what I understand, is meant to fill the gap of the last two years of the mission, but since it is considered "questionable canon" I will disregard it for now, for the sake of argument.)
2
I have written extensively about how, in season 3, Kirk and Spock suffer irreparable damage to their serious relationship in Requiem for Methuselah, and then continue to fight about it for several episodes. Then Spock lives an allegorical journey to hell and back in All Our Yesterdays, showing the extensive inner turmoil that he is still going through. By Turnabout Intruder, the last episode of the series, the two have broken up and it's affecting their interactions.

So my theory is this: the end of TOS is actually quite close to the end of the five-year mission, the Requiem for Methuselah wounds are still fresh in Spock's mind, the All Our Yesterdays turmoil is still very real, and Kirk and Spock have quite recently gone through a very painful breakup.
(Even if I'm wrong about this part. You can imagine two more years of that painful Turnabout-Intruder-level intimacy, where they undeniably know each other like the other half of themselves, and yet there is no joy in that connection and no way to bridge the rift between them. It would be enough to make anyone want to run away.)
Doesn't it just make sense that after the season 3 spirk fight arc, Spock would be ready to put some distance between himself and Kirk?
3
Can we also talk about what Spock was doing on the five-year mission in the first place? A half-Vulcan, raised on Vulcan, who feels he has something to prove as a Vulcan, and is trying desperately to repress his human side, elects to spend five full years in the unceasing and exclusive company of humans. Why?
What if Spock felt unfulfilled in that life as a Vulcan? What if he wanted to try out his human side? What if Spock meant for the five-year-mission to be a sort of rumspringa from Vulcan mores, during which he could try out this other world like a piece of clothing, to see how it fit?
But in the end, those five years of connection, of love, and then loss, only led to heartache and overwhelm. But, while Spock never confesses to heartache and overwhelm, what he does confess to? Irritation.
Think back to the start of the series. In Where No Man Has Gone Before, when Spock is trying so hard to repress his human half that he still refers to his mixed parentage as "one of my ancestors married a human female," Kirk tells him that he plays a very irritating game of chess. Spock coyly answers, "Irritating? Ah, yes. One of your Earth emotions."

And then, in Space Seed, we have this exchange, where Kirk is being so absolutely gentle and patient and loving with Spock that it makes me want to cry:

Both of these "Irritation? Never met her" exchanges are in Season 1.
But look how much things have changed by season 3: This is what he has learned in his time among humans.
From Day of the Dove:
Irritation is, actually, the perfect emotion for Spock to finally allow himself to express. It has almost a medical bent to it, as in the sort of irritant that causes a skin reaction. He's been expressing irritation all along with that telltale eyebrow, of course, but allowing himself to say the word out loud is a big step.
Then, upon being called "you pointed-eared Vulcan" by Bones in All Our Yesterdays:
His descent into the allegorical hell and the barbarism of his ancestors brings out this outburst of emotion against Bones, the only other bright spot (besides Jim) in this human world. It is a step beyond irritation, to "I don't like that. I don't think I ever did, and now I'm sure." But it shows that this particular irritation has been brewing for a long time, repressed under layers of Vulcan control.
And finally, this, from Plato's Stepchildren. Not irritation, but relevant:

Ouch.
Spock always felt out of place in his Vulcan world. And he feels even more out of place in the very human world of the Enterprise. But Kirk is the one thing that makes that life worthwhile. The one safe harbor, the only safe person in the whole world of both humans and Vulcans. Spock is never at home anywhere, but he is at home with Kirk. But then it turns out that the safe harbor is perhaps the most dangerous place of all. He risks everything to allow himself to love, but then he has his heart completely broken by Kirk. This human world was already perhaps not a great fit to begin with, but now it's painfully, excruciatingly obvious that he is not at home here either.
Remember, also, what one of the spectators said of Spock during his emotional torture in Plato's Stepchildren: "Cupid's arrow kills Vulcans." WHAT.
4
So of course Spock's response to this failed five-year experiment is to say, "Okay, this did not work out. I tried it on, but this living-with-humans garment did not fit me. Fuck this shit, this being-around-emotional-humans shit, this pain-from-other-people's-emotions shit, and FUCK THIS ONE MAN'S BULLSHIT IN PARTICULAR, I am now off to join the Vulcan priesthood. Not only must my life's answer be on Vulcan, it is the most Vulcan version of Vulcan I can think of. I will give up all of my connections, all of my emotions, everything that makes me me so that I can finally become the ultimate Vulcan. Maybe if I get rid of my emotions altogether, it will also get rid of this pain."
And that is how he ends up here at the start of the movie.

But of course. It doesn't work.
He is running away from life, away from love, away from Kirk, rather than running towards enlightenment.
It was never going to work.
And when he suddenly senses that Kirk needs him, his instinctual reaction is to refuse to complete the kolinahr. He is not rejected from it (at least that's not how it starts), as so many people say. He rejects it himself by raising his hand to stop the priestess. She simply agrees with him that he has work to do elsewhere.
What does he feel, though? It is hard to say. It looks more like confusion or disappointment than love or longing. But might it even be... Irritation?
5
"Okay, fine," he says to himself. "If I must, I must. I will go and save that man's sorry ass one more time. I will go get a nice haircut. I will go put on my makeup and an ABSOLUTE BANGER of a little black revenge dress. I will glide onto that bridge like I own the fucking place. I will make that man cum in his pants as soon as he sees me. And I will not even deign look at him." And so he does.
Irritation does seem to be his main outward emotional state when he makes his first appearance back on the Enterprise. He is trying so hard to project himself as an emotionless brick wall, but he is actually radiating irritation in every direction. He greets Chekov with thinly veiled irritation, doesn't even let him finish his sentence:
And then he does what he came to do; he glides onto the bridge like he owns the fucking place. He looks so damn good and Kirk notices, his whole body snapping to attention. Spock looks all around the bridge, but not at Kirk standing right in front of him.

But, of course, he can't not look at him. He makes it a full eight seconds before he finally lowers his gaze and stares straight into Kirk's very soul without saying a single word out loud.

He then busies himself around the science station, taking charge, getting to work, ignoring the pleasantries erupting from all the old friends and colleagues around him. Irritation, irritation, irritation. He cuts all the discussion short and plunges headlong into the science, completely ignoring the way that Kirk is practically on his knees in front of him. But he sees. Of course he sees.
And yet, this outward irritation is simply a betrayal of his inner feelings: the fact that he cares. If he didn't care, he wouldn't be irritated. If he didn't care, he wouldn't have come at all.
But now that he is here, now that he is back, anything is possible.
