I've had this draft lying around unfinished for awhile, so I figured this would be the perfect opportunity to finish it. Here you go, hun 💜

It's getting pretty late. 'Late' as in the sun has long set and the last time you saw any of the boys was about an hour ago when Time finally managed to herd the remaining stragglers out of the room, although he was being a bit hypocritical seeing as he still lingered in the doorway for a good minute himself afterwards (not that you dared comment on it).

Since their heavy footsteps had faded into silence - and aside from the innkeeper sometimes shuffling down the hall or a sudden 'pop' of the bedside candle - you've been left entirely alone with your thoughts as they dance on the very edge of sleep, but you refuse to lose balance. It's your shift. You promised to be a good lookout and it took a lot of convincing to even get the position, so you can't disappoint no matter how heavy the weight upon your eyelids or heart is.

You've always been well aware of the risks that would come with this mission and from traveling alongside nine heroes of legend; troublesome young men and boys who can definitely handle themselves in battle, however none immune to making possible mistakes. You expected one to occur at some point, yet never wanted the aftermath to be anything too serious.

Wild getting a decent scar on his forehead was a scare when it initially happened, but he was back on his feet within the hour - less than that actually, because if you remember correctly, his quick recovery had been controversial and resulted in quite a bit of bickering. The bottom line is that Wild bounced back with little to no trouble thanks in part to his thick skull. This is different. Twilight has yet to follow his protege's example and it's been hours.

You must admit you underestimated the situation at first due to a lack of context. It's not to say you didn't care about Wolfie when he got struck, however there's a notable difference between a wild 'pet' that occasionally trails your group and the very man you've grown to secretly admire over the months you've spent traveling together. If you had known then that they are one of the same, you would've likely shared a similar level of panic as the Champion, but instead you were left in the dark until Four finally explained Twilight's secret to you.

Even at that moment, although more worried, you figured everything would be okay. Wolfie or Twilight, a fairy should be able to do the trick to heal the worst of injuries, so one can imagine your heartbreak once learning that, for some odd reason, the state of his wounds haven't changed even under a fairy's sacred touch. That's when you truly became fearful, but you refused to show it outwardly - no more than whatever made itself present on your face, anyway.

Making a fuss won't aid Twilight's condition nor will it calm the concerns of your friends, so instead you had mostly stayed out of the way until Time announced everyone should get some rest. At that point, you made your presence known, quick to shoot your hand into the air while volunteering to take the first shift for watching over Twilight. Champion was the only one to fight you for it and honestly, you still aren't certain how you won the argument, but here you are, sitting quietly at Twilight's bedside while trying desperately to keep yourself from descending into madness as you fret over his well-being.

He's doing somewhat better after Hyrule's magic managed to stop most of the bleeding, however his wound remains deep without any further healing progress and his skin is drained into a pale, sickly color clear even through the dim glow of candle light. He looks like shit and you'd guess he feels like it, too, seeing as his face curls into a pained expression every now and again, a whispered groan leaving him whenever he slightly shifts his body (not that he moves that much).

It's gotten a bit chilly tonight, however all blankets in the room have been laid over him and you refuse to swoop as low as to steal comfort from a dying man, so you simply keep huddled to yourself, half praying the next shift will come sooner and half praying it won't because a stubbornness inside you is somehow convinced that the simple act of you being here will keep himsafe from death's hands.

You don't pay much attention to the quiet groan that comes from the bed, having already bitterly accepted that there's nothing that can ease whatever pain haunts Twilight during his nightmares, although you do lift your head when a hand shakes its way into view, barely able to carry itself to the edge of the covers where it collapses with a broken echo from its owner, "W...What time is it?"

You almost cry simply by the sight of Twilight's dull eyes staring up at you, half-lidded and only appearing bright if compared to the dark bags hiding underneath them, but you manage to hold back the tears for the sake of not scaring him.

"I-I'm not sure. After sunset," You answer slowly as to prevent any wobbling to your voice.

"And the others? Is every - everyone else okay?" Hylia, he sounds awful, his once handsome, accent-laced voice butchered by a hollow croak.

"Yeah...Yeah, we're all okay - and don't worry about the shadow. Wild managed to take it down - thanks to you tiring it out, I'd say. You sure gave that thing a run for its money there," You attempt to joke lamely. Although your laugh doesn't carry much life to it, Twilight's expression does soften a tad after the sound.

"...Good..." Is all he says before closing his eyes with a sigh through his nose. Meanwhile you fidget nervously, debating with yourself on whether you should let the conversation die off so that he can continue getting rest or keep him talking while he's able to. You sure do love hearing his voice, after all, no matter how broken it may be; it reminds you that someone as great as him is actually real and, after recent events, still alive.

In the midst of your depressed thoughts, you notice Twilight reach his hand out towards you again - or at least it looks like he's trying to. Really, he only has the strength to lift it palm-up slightly off the covers, yet you understand this movement's wordless request. Ever so gently, as if he's made of glass, you take his hand and sandwich it between both of yours. He's a bit too cold for your liking, a sharp contrast to his normally warm touch, not that you draw attention to that worrying detail.

"...Is there anything I can get you?"

He tries to shake his head, but loses will halfway through the action and instead chooses to simply let his head lull to the side towards you. From there he stares for a bit longer than he means to, his dazed brain struggling to process his thoughts at its usual speed.

"Why aren't you sleeping?"

"Someone has to keep an eye on you," You allow a small smile, slowly reaching forward to help move his bangs away from his face, "We're all taking shifts throughout the night. I was just lucky enough to get the first."

Twilight hums, closing his eyes for a brief second when your fingers brush his forehead, "How'd you manage that?"

"Barely. For a second there, I thought I was gonna have to duel the Champion for it - had my hand on my sword and everything before he finally caved," Twilight makes a sound between a scoff and a laugh which makes your smile more genuine even if he does flinch in pain immediately afterwards, "The real question is how I won against Time...Actually, I wouldn't be that surprised if he's secretly standing outside the door as we speak."

A creak of old floorboards in the hallway makes your eyes dart to the door, almost expecting the man in question to walk in and call you out for your jokes, yet you calm that doesn't happen. Twilight brings your attention back to him by moving his thumb against your hand, "Don't tell 'em, but I'm glad it's you here. I like having ya' here with me..."

You press your lips, hoping it'll help you ignore the heat against your cheeks. That must be the first time Twilight has ever openly said he 'likes' anything related to you; you're certain you'd remember any other instances of such a milestone. It might not be the exact sentence you'd want him to use the word in, but it's a step in the right direction, so you'll take it.

"I like having you here with me, too, Twi...which is why I've officially decided that I'm too selfish to let you die on any of us. I don't care if I have to fist-fight Hylia for it; I'm not letting you get out of this journey so easily."

"That right?"

"I swear it on my life."

He chuckles weakly, although the sound is taken over by a fit of coughing. Promptly you pour a small glass of water using the pitcher kept on the bedside table before gently helping him sit up to take a careful sip.

It's insane for you to think that only a few weeks ago, you had been secretly watching him move hay bales at Time's place effortlessly. Now he lies here in bed struggling to hold a conversation, his muscles shaking horribly by the simply action of prompting himself up even slightly. Seeing him like this makes you feel awful, but you also consider yourself blessed to be the one taking care of him during a low point like this, ensuring that he's properly cared for and tended to almost like a spouse would.

"Seems like I'm starting to lose you, farm boy. You should relax and get some more sleep," He makes a face and seems prepared to argue, however he must not have been able to think of anything convincing to say - that or the aching in his bones has become too hard to ignore. Either way, instead of saying a word, Twilight nods droopily before inching his way back down against his soft pillow while you fix the blankets over him again.

"Look on the bright side: make it through this and you'll probably get special treatment from here on out. Get your bags carried for you, have whatever meals you're craving be made each night...If you hobble around a little I'm sure you could even get Time to fuss over you -"

" - And what about you?" Twilight quizzes and you can't tell if he's being serious or just teasing. It feels like the latter, yet the way he watches you while awaiting your reply makes you feel another way; soft and warm, but a tad anxious at the same time, "What can I get from you?"

You pretend to think, although in truth, you already know there wouldn't be any limitations for what you're willing to give. If he asked for the world right now, you'd figure out some way to gift wrap it for him...but that's too embarrassing to admit aloud, "...Depends on what you're thinking and if you can swing it the right way."

He hums, once again staring at you just long enough to make that anxious feeling really prominent. Is there something on your face that no one told you about earlier? Is he judging your messy hairdo that you had no time to fix since the battle? Did you sound too flirtatious in your answer? Maybe his injury has given him the ability to read minds, so now he knows just how desperate you are to earn his affections!

"...If I asked you to stay with me, would you?" Twilight whispers so quietly that you barely hear, yet you do. 

"I, uh...Time will be here in an hour or so for his shift, but I won't go anywhere until then, okay?" Not even your poor excuse at smiling can save your stumbled words, yet you pray he doesn't look beyond either. He's loopy from such a stressful day, so it makes sense that he's have trouble properly wording questions. It also makes sense for him to be scared to be left alone - anyone would be in such a state. He doesn't have to worry, though; between you and the boys, someone will always be by his side throughout the night. You'd expect that knowledge to be a relief for him, however Twilight only frowns and looks away with a surprisingly depressed look in his eyes. 

Fiddling nervously with your hands upon your lap, you ask carefully, "...Unless you're wanting me to watch over your for the whole night? In that case, I wouldn't mind staying if it would make you feel better. I'm sure the others would be fine with it if they could just check in here and there."

Twilight presses his lips, refusing to look directly at you. If you didn't know any better, you'd say that based on his continued reaction, you're still somehow missing the point of his question, yet no matter how much you rack your brain, you can't think of what else he would've possibly meant.

You were tempted to ask for more clarity, but Twilight speaks before you can, "...I'd like that."

"Yeah?"

He nods bashfully which melts your heart in a way you're sure would be shamefully clear if he were only looking in your direction.

"...Well, since you took one for the team -" Scooting your chair closer to the bed allows you to cross your arms over the mattress and rest your head on top of them. Desperately you try to ignore your nerves and the cute way Twilight curiously looks over at you, "- I'll stay for the night if you promise me one thing."

"Hmm?"

"Stay with me, too? Without you, I might just loose my mind. Don't tell anyone else, but you don't drive me nearly as insane as some of the other boys do," not in the same way at least.

The corner of Twilight's lips turn upwards, his hand taking it's time to move over yours. The second it makes contact, you take the chance to hold onto it, "...Sounds like a deal..."

You match his smile easily, "Get some sleep, Twi. I'll be right here when you wake up, so just focus on getting better for me, alright?"

He hums one last time, drifting off to sleep as commanded where he seems to be far more peaceful than earlier. As promised, you remain by his side until morning, eventually falling victim to quick naps yourself only disrupted whenever someone else sneaks into the room to see how things are going. You're certain you'll be tired tomorrow with an aching back after spending an entire night hunched over, but that's a small price to pay for someone like Twilight. It'll all be worth it to see him recover, granting you even more time to spend by his side through thick and thin.

ohh it’s the silly. it’s him. skyward sword link!! sorry about the quality loves tumblr mobile decided it didn't want to work D: all these redesigns are kind of how id imagine they’d look post game! so. this is how i pictured him :D out of all the redesigns, i feel like he’s my least fav because i feel like i could’ve done more… but anyways! his white shirt’s now green, and i brought a lot more red into his outfit!! + the loftwing feather earring :D

oot/mm link! i love his design… i based the outfit on the skull kid’s, cause like. aren’t the kokiri gonna be limited to the same resources as skull kids? the under outfit tho.. link got in hyrule!! eye scar is based on the fact that the hero’s shade only has one eye lit and lu time. i just think that’s neat.

WIND WAKER SLASH PHANTOM HOURGLASS LINK!!! i love this boy to pieces. he’s so silly. his outfit’s p much the same from when we first meet him, but i like to think instead of the wack ass kokiri outfit, grandma gave him the little scarf-wrap-thing.. off-color cause like.. it’s been 100 years, yk? details fade… the vest color was a last minute decision; i set the base layer for every color as this bright blue and i got so used to it that i completely forgot i didnt color his vest! so… it’s blue!

last but CERTAINLY not least we got tp link! his entire outfit was just based on “how can combine his ordon village outfit w his normal one” and so. this was born. honestly i love it. it slays. more protection, more connections w his home, serves cunt, etc. only change i’d make now (i designed these a while ago) is he should be hairier. he’s a wolf ! he should be giving more “wolf…” blah. Anyways.

Just wanted to say your amazing BOTW/TOTK art awakened the need to play the other games, just now I finished Twilight Princess for the first time and oh boi, what a good game… Still craving more Zelda, do you recommend diving straight to Ocarina or should I go Wind Waker? Already played Skyward Sword and it was a bit eh for me. I’m also curious about which are your favs.

Oh I’m so glad u enjoyed TP!! It’s one of my favourites! If u already know the lore/story of oot from watching playthroughs, u can go straight into ww. But if u feel like u don’t know oot very well, I’d say play that first cuz ww leads on from it. Ww is the result of one of the timeline splits (the ending where link remains an adult at the end of oot)

Once u play oot, if u enjoyed it, I’d say give majoras mask a go cuz TP is the result of that timeline split (the one where link decides to go back in time and relive his childhood)

My other favourites besides oot and tp are links awakening and a link between worlds. They are both sequels and adjacents to a link to the past which is very interesting but it's a bit rough in terms of playing (old games r difficult). the links awakening remake is so delightful but might make ur brain melt from time to time

Themes with the LU Chains characters that I do not like (based on fics and fanon interpretation, not necessarily jojo's comic). I needed to rant about this, and get it out of my head, so here y'all go. Also these are just my opinions, but I'm objectively right

Four - either his character is supremely bland and barely in the fic, or he is the main character and it is extremely difficult to read the way y'all write his thought processes. Find a better, easier way for us to read him please.

Hyrule - genuinely, i have almost no complaints about his character. Some of the best LU fics I have read are ones centered around him. Y'all really go off when writing Hyrule. The only problem I have is when he is a side character and grouped with Wild in that 'omg we are so reckless, we put the whole group in danger LOL'. I despise that. Hyrule is from a land where he is constantly on guard and cautious - he is not reckless to the point of putting others in danger.

Legend - y'all love to make him a bully and leave it at that. There is so much more to his character than 'sarcastic and mean'. If you wanna write Legend as a bully, go off I guess but know that you're doing a diservice to his character.

Sky - ...yall make him. So. Bland. I think i have only read one fic where i genuinely liked Sky's character. He is almost always characterized as a love-sick fool. Sky is no fool. He is angry and guilt-ridden. He was used by Hylia, too, and he knows it!! She literally admitted it to him. He may be in love with Zelda, but I am almost certain he has some pent-up anger against Hylia. Also the demise curse?? Guys, Sky is so guilt-ridden, pls explore it

Time - 'basic gruff dad characterization' copy and paste. He is either way too gruff and angry, or has a little bit of playfulness mixed in. The playfulness never balances his gruffness though. His character is always boring to read, which is such a shame bc he is one of my fav game Links.

Twilight - again...such a bland character y'all make him out to be. Either he is reduced as just a mentor to Wild or he is reduced as just a son-figure to Time. Both of those I hate and they're both over-written. Its a goddamn fight to be able to find a fic where Twilight isnt a mentor to Wild, dear Lord. Also the majority of his angst (if there even is any in the fic) it is almost always based around Midna. And i get it, i do, but dear lord. Y'all do know that other stuff went down in his game, right??? That there are other women in his life besides Midna? Like, have none of y'all read the TP manga and the amiunt of angst potential in that??? Come on

Warriors - this one makes me a tad angry. He is just the pretty boy, the pretty link, the link who is always getting with women. 'Womanizer'. Women problems. And yep, Wars has women problems - but in the way that he doesn't like relationships and is uncomfortable with intimacy. Listen, i could go on and on about Warriors trauma, but I'll digress and just say this: Warriors is not a womanizer, and it is an insult to his character to make him one.

Wild - *deep breath in* *deep breath out* the way y'all write his character inspires a deep rage inside of me. Wild is not inept, he is not stupid, he is not 'feral', and he would not put people in danger even though he is reckless. I understand that many of you characterize him as feral and reckless, because that is how y'all played BOTW. I apparently played it much differently; very cautiously and fought from a distance. Listen to me, though: all of the Links are reckless, but none of them are stupid.

Wind - y'all make him so annoying, please quit. Wind is 13/14 years old and has been on 2 quests. He is not a 7 year old boy, playing at being a hero. He is an older brother, who went on a quest to protect his sister. Wind is proud and protective, not to be babied. And honestly, i think the other Links would understand that (and yes, even twi and wars can understand that)

Kirby- Kirby the best borb,

pink puffball of pureness, friend shaped ball with his immaculate vibes that can destroy gods with the literal power of friendship if they hurt his friends because he loves them <3

Legend of Zelda- might be a weird choice considering Midna *exists*, but hear me out: TP Link.

Emo cowboy, a super cool sword flexing move that you can do by pressing a after defeating an enemy with a skill (which is just *chefs kiss*), my main in smash bros brawl and 4 3DS (always with Kirby, obvs), that one "shooting dedede without looking“ cutscene from brawl (if you save Zelda at the start), afaik the only character in this entire series that actually pets the animals, he’s got a horse and a falcon, peak facial expressions, can be a gremlin, not only strong enough to wrestle with gorons, but overwhelmed the literal holder of the Triforce of Power when they locked swords, and also the very big, actually giant bonus of also being Wolf Link. Who is not only a good boi but can also talk to animals! (…this is mostly just projecting my love of gameplay mechanics in this game but ehh)

But tbh he‘s also tied with more obvious choices like, again, Midna, Linebeck (there are lots and lots of better explanations out there why they’re both cool), but also Young Link (precious and utterly OP in Hyrule Warriors), Linkle (second most OP character (at least when it comes to bosses) also I just think she‘s neat), Ooccoo (Sky Chicken Aunt👏 is precious👏 and deserves👏 more love!), Fierce Deity (he‘s just really cool. Also Fierce dad > Evil FD. He goes fishing! )

It’s not a main game, but I got both of their special fancy costume versions though complete luck and never looked back; once saw a post talking about how they only use one of them (forgot which one) in their team to hear that "All Aboooaaard!“ and yeah I can see why now. It’s just good vibes all around. (Also they‘re just such an OP combo in that game, I’m literally driving through almost anything, it’s great)

Ocarina of Time

The one everyone knows, probably the first one a lot of us might have played. What's the big deal about this Zelink? WelLLL

They meet as children, and Zelda waits for seven years for Link to return from his sleep in the spirit realm and to save them. Her faith never wavered and she genuinely cares. She cries out when he is hurt during the final battle.

Zelda here is more emotional (in a positive way, like she's happy to help Link and save the world)

Twilight Princess

Okay okay so I never really shipped Zelink in this game until like two, three years ago because of a fanfiction taking place post game.

But like...character dynamics this game has me weak

Zelda is Queen Regent of this Hyrule (though they still refer to her and Princess) and Link is a farm boy. Link is warm and open, he befriends many many characters on his quest.

Zelda is more stoic and reserved, her wisdom is very present. This game also could paint her in a philosophical manner, like damn this Zelda is the epitome of grace.

The two of them together at first is awkward because they don't truly interact until after Midna is gone. Friendship blooms as Link breaks down her walls and gets to know her (probs bc he is like gonna be a knight or smth).

Love doesn't appear until he takes her back to Ordon and she sees where he has grown up (game wise, not manga wise). Ilia is there and greets the princess. They watch Link fight the youngsters and Ilia asks if her highness loves him too.

Zelda had never considered it, but it could be a possibility. Ilia is happy that everyone is safe, but knows Link will return with Zelda back to the castle.

Zelda falls for Link first. Link falls for Zelda years after TP. He was never one to catch on to romantic intentions.

Hyrule Warriors

The way these two held the others gaze at the beginning, Cia's jealousy, ugh just these two were on their way.

The narrative around them made it seem it was destined to be. Zelda and Link seal the sword together and he becomes a very high ranked...knight commander idc he's noble af and they def get married.

Zelda was high key into Link, and like he was into her but he was reserved?

This game technically has the sporty Link, sporty Link in the sense of for once he was in fucking school and they had birds to fly around on. Skyward sword skyloft could be a greaser au so easily like oh my God (greaser/square dynamics make me happy and no one utilizes this trope but that one comic does and God Bless bc we need more of that stuff)

There was a trailer called romance trailer

This game was peak of my hyper obsession with Zelda I kept a gosh darn journal bc I was obsessed and I didn't yet know about this garbage hellsite

I lost my shit seeing all this zelink stufff

They hold hands, he catches her mid air, when she wakes up, they live on the surface together with no other humans

She felt so bad about having to use Link ohhhh my gosh

This Goddess reincarnates into a mortal form and feels so bad for like "inspiring" Link to go after her

Like the Hero from before and Hylia, Hylia loved him and that's why she reincarnated his spirit

Listen I know the manga is like pick and choose what you want canon but the first hero has me so weak

He's pissed off and ready to kick ass, she's trying to stop the origin of evil, and they both give up their forms for the other

He does fighting for her and she gives up her power, all so she could fight by his side and give them a chance.

Breath of the Wild

Holy shit hollyyyyyy shit

I love Botw!Zelda so damn much

I relate to her bc she's the most realistically developed Zelda

Listen listen she is my favorite Zelda and while I want to talk about her own development I'll have to do that later and just write an essay

Botw Zelda deals with so much and God I wish we could see more of her. She definitely deals with anxiety, and one could say she might struggle with other things like depression. She has all these expectations and she's terrified to try and possibly fail meeting them.

Link is pushed into her life. He's a young man who could beat the shit out of grown ups when he was four years old, he's quiet, he's neutral and he's not comforting.

He's there to defeat Calamity Ganon. And he's ready, but she's not. And she hates him for it. He rarely talks beyond answering questions or notifying someone about something. Talking is for only exchanging information for him. Nothing else.

It feels like he doesn't care, which isn't true she finds out the longer she spends with him. God he cares, he follows her despite her begging him to not follow, and when she gets into a tight spot he shows up.

And here and oh my God. They sit down to a meal, just the two of them, out in the wild, and she apologizes. And Link, God he loves food and she's apologizing and he realizes that he can talk to her. She has talked about her insecurities discreetly before, but she talks about them uncensored. And he's probably floored. A princess who is so intelligent, and so determined, and so caring but she can't see past the fear she will never access her powers to fight the calamity.

He opens up. He tells her about how he remains silent and unemotional as to carry any burden. Being neutral towards all makes it easier for him.

And Zelda can't believe it, a day ago she was running from him. And hating him, and she did it for science. Now, they sit at a small campire in a local forest, eating and talking like normal. Link doesn't patronize her or invalidate her feelings. He still says he believes in her probably, and he probably gives her a soft smile while patting her shoulder. His skin is tan, his hair is bright, and the way the fire flickers in his eyes just hit Zelda like a boulder.

He let his boundaries down for her, they bond, and they travel together. It was easy to see as she fell for him, and it was almost impossible to see if he fell for her.

After they defeat Calamity Ganon and Zelda like...reappears back into existence she asks if Link remembers her.

In a kingdom where there is no one ruler, and a ruined castle. Zelda probably procrastinates the idea of reviving a monarchy. She travels village to village with Link, seeing how their allies fair and reintroducing herself to the Rito, Zora, Gorons, and remaining Hylians. He's with her all the while, there is no looming doom. It's just two young adults traveling and yeah

There is so much potential there I love it

Oh god that’s so hard to pick!! This series has so many Iconic™ songs. Would it be a cop out if I said Zel’s lullaby? Because I always look forward to hearing her theme with each new game. I dunno man, I just really love it. ALSO!! Hilda’s theme, it’s so beautiful but to be honest most of the soundtrack for l/ttp & a/lbw is the fav.

MAN OH BOY!!! UHM!! Grapping hook was always so cool to use, I felt like a badass landing on places without fail back in the day and it made me wish that I had one of those! Also peagsus boots mainly because I love how you go nyoom and it makes getting to places faster. I know why they wouldn’t add the boots to 3D L.OZ games but... a girl can dream.
