This is my favourite lightsaber sequence in all of Star Wars. It’s got such intensity and such urgency. Obi-Wan needs to end this quickly so he can get to Qui-Gon; maybe it’s not too late to save him. The stakes are so high.

My heart sits in my throat every time. Obi-Wan is doing his best, but it’s not clear it’s going to be enough. His master, one of the best duelists in the entire order has just been bested - how is he, the apprentice, meant to do better?

I think about Qui-Gon offscreen; he can hear the battle - maybe even see it. We can only imagine what he’s thinking. He’d called Obi-Wan capable before the Council, but does he think Obi-Wan capable of winning this battle? He hopes he is, but it must be agony to bear witness to this test.

Handmaiden Battle Dress

I love that this resembles a Jedi tunic but includes the striped pant with tall boots and low slung holster combo Han Solo wears. The heavy fabric is understood to be ‘armor’ that allows a free range of movement. Red is Amidala/Naboo’s signature color throughout the film and the Nabboan fleur-de-lis adorns the buckle.

Day 7 - free day

This poster has always made me catch my breath whenever i look at it. I get chills when I stare ate it. It’s so simple, but there is SO MUCH that’s said.

The way Vader’s shadow looms just behind Anakin, a foreboding spectre that haunts his every step, a grim future that can’t be evaded.

The way Anakin is looking down at his feet while he walks away with his bag, trying to begin a new chapter of his life, but with reservations as he tries to gather his strength. 

Perhaps Anakin’s future could have been different. Maybe he could have lived happily ever after with his wife and children, or continued to serve the galaxy as a Jedi. But this poster reminds the viewer that no, Anakin Skywalker is destined to fall, and there is no escaping that fate. 

George Lucas wanted to tell us the story of how the Empire came to be, how we arrived at the events of A New Hope. And he wanted to show us how Darth Vader was once Anakin Skywalker.

He he did just that.
